HISTORIA DEL TANG SOO DO.

TANG SOO DO INTEGRATED TANG SOO DO, TAE KWON DO, HAP KI DO
The Tang Soo Do program created by Grandmaster Chul Woo Jung is an integration of the three Korean arts of Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, and Hap Ki Do. Tang Soo Do - descendent of the ancient arts of Kwan Bup, Tae Kyun, and Soo Bahk - develops hard snap kicks, blocks, and punches. Tae Kwon Do - the most popular sport martial art in the world - is characterized by its heavy use of kicks (particularly of the acrobatic variety such as jumping and spinning kicks). Hap Ki Do is an advanced martial art that combines the most effective self-defense techniques of various styles, enabling its practitioners to counter and escape from holds, chokes and grabs.
Children and Adult classes
The Tang Soo Do program is offered to students of all ages and abilities. Separate sessions are designated for children and adults, though parents are allowed and encouraged to participate with their kids in the children's classes. Sessions are not modular (e.g. There are no "white belts only" classes). New students participate with the entire class in the normal flow of activities, with special guidance provided by the instructor as needed.
Belts and Rank System
There are ten levels that precede black belt ranking: White belt; yellow belt; yellow belt with green stripe; green; blue; blue with red stripe; three levels of red; and finally, brown belt. Every two months, students are given the opportunity to test to the next belt level. (*Belt testing fees are

Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do Today In 1955, the Korean government sponsored consolidation of the various kwans (schools) under the umbrella term Tae Kwon Do (the art of kicking and punching). The leaders of the Tae Kwon Do movement wanted to organize the art into a worldwide sport aimed at eventually gaining Olympic recognition. Tae Kwon Do, now the national sport, made its Olympic debut as a demonstration sport in 1988 in its homeland, Seoul, Korea. It appeared again as a demonstration sport at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. The year 2000 marked the fulfillment of the Tae Kwon Do dream when it at last became a full medal sport in the summer Olympic games. The Moo Duk Kwan, under the leadership of Grandmaster Hwang Kee, remained separate from the Tae Kwon Do movement and continued to teach Tang Soo Do as a traditional martial art, emphasizing self-defense over the sport aspect. THE MEANING OF TANG SOO DO
Tang Soo Do is the name of the art in which we train. Translated the word,"tang" represents the Tang Dynasty of China, circa (517-907 AD) which share a cultural background with Korea."soo" translated means hand, but can also mean fist, punch, strike or defence, and "Do" translated is the way of life or art, roughly translated as "style to teach Moo and Duk through training in the Martial Arts." As simple as the translations may seem, deeper reflection is required to understand that it is the development of inner strength balanced with external strength that leads us to a path of virtue and righteousness.
It is also interesting to note that Tang Soo Do has influences from Chinese Kung Fu as well as the ancient Korean Soo Bahk.
Brief History of Martial Arts
Even though the origin of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan can be treaced back to its founder, date and location, the origin of the martial arts in general is vague. Some sources will claim that the martial arts started with Buddhist monks in India and were spread with their travels.
However, as it was necessary for men to defend their countries all over the world, it is more likely that the arts of self defense developed in many parts of the world and knowledge was shared with time.

Tae Kwon Do literally translated means the "art of kicking and punching" or "the way of the hand and foot." It incorporates the linear movement of various Japanese styles and the circular movements of many Chinese styles. Tae Kwon Do is characterized by its powerful kicking techniques that set it apart from all other forms of Martial Arts. Tae Kwon Do practice dates back to 50 BC but has existed in its current form since 1909, during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Tae Kwon Do originally was a practice known as Taek Kyon. Taek Kyon was a fighting art of the troops of Koguryo, one of the three kingdoms in Korea. It was taught by a few masters to the elite troops of the neighboring kingdom of Silla. In Silla, it was taught to the nobility, and the sons of nobility at the Hwarang-do. Part of this education, Taek Kyon gained the Five Codes of Human Conduct:
  • Be loyal to your country. Be obedient to your parents. Be trustworthy of your friends. Never retreat in battle. Never make an unjust kill.
These codes became the basis for 10 commandments of modern Tae Kwon Do:
  • Be loyal to your country.

History
Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art. Many use the modern term of Tae Kwon Do, but we use the old term to denote the non-sport oriented art. It is relatively modern, but its roots can be traced to ancient Korea, China, and Japan. These roots started in Korean Tae Kyon, Chinese Shaolin Long Fist & Tai Chi Chaun, and Japanese Shoto Kan Karate-Do (Tangsoo-Do & Kongsoo-Do are the Korean pronunciations for Karate-Do). TangSooDo literally translates to "Way of the Tang (dynasty) Hand". The Tang Dynasty was the golden enlightenment period of China from 618 AD to 906 AD. Tang Soo Do is a composite style that encompasses both hard and soft components. The most famous and well known TangSooDo practitioner is Master Chuck Norris.

History Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan was developed by Grandmaster Hwang Kee after extensive training in the Korean martial art of Soo Bahk Do, along with training in both northern and southern Chinese Kung Fu styles. Tang Soo Do contains a mix of 60% Soo Bahk Do, 30% northern Kung Fu and 10% southern Kung Fu. While many of its techniques are similar to those of Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do differs in its approach. Tang Soo Do training is generally more traditional. TMAC blends aspects of various other martial art styles like Zen Do Kai, Aikido, Shotokan, Jujitsu and Tai Chi, in the one-steps, self defense and other training techniques. As the students progress, they are also taught the traditional weapons of Jo, Bo, Tonfa, Nunchaku and Sai.
