Trampolining (as done by us) is done on Olympic size trampolines (otherwise known as beds - oh yes the jokes are MANY) and involves doing lots of awe-inspiring and breathtaking moves (especially if you fall off). We do it for competitions, for awards, for skiing/boarding, or just for fun. In fact we all do it for fun, the others are just amusing distractions. Over the past few years out club has significantly increased in numbers, ranging from the complete beginner to the elite, having the Scottish National Champion as one of our bouncers. There are many approachable and experienced coaches, past and present students, at hand to help teach moves from all levels. The moves are varied, from the simple up, down, up, down (gets a bit boring after a while), through to triple wow-look at that flippy, spinny, turny thing they just did!!!!! All moves which we aspire to pulling off. We take part in many competitions here in Scotland, but also England, Ireland, Wales and even Germany. We have managed to win most of the Scottish Trophies last year for our efforts and hope to do the same this year.

TRAMPOLINING Trampoline History Coaching info. Contacts Events Reports ... HOME Page TRAMPOLINE HISTORY Origins of Trampolining The sport of trampolining is as old as man, a reflection of man’s desire to defy the ever-pervading presence of gravity. A number of cultures have devised apparatus to send an athlete into the air i.e. an outstretched animal skin being used to throw up, and safely receive, the descending performer. Circuses have used a number of devices to show off aerial and floor somersault activity. The way the activity is now practised reflects the intrusion, delightful in this instance, of modern technology. Modern trampolining has only emerged in the last 49-50 years from the prototype apparatus built by George Nissen, USA, in his garage in 1936. The Air Force, and later the Space Agencies were not slow to employ trampolines with their pilots and astronauts. Medical authorities and those working with handicapped persons have found many exciting benefits from being able to use a trampoline. At the recreational level trampolining has an immediate appeal, especially for young people. Every era produces at least one step forward in the sophistication of a trampoline machine used. The most modern ones are capable of projecting an athlete to such a height that the top stars can touch 10m-high ceilings and perform repetition triple somersaults with ease.

WHO WE ARE SCHOOLS TRAMPOLINING WORKING/DEVELOPMENT GROUP The Schools Trampoline Competitions, and support for trampolining in schools, are managed on behalf of the B.S.G.A by a working group of representatives of each geographical Region, a National Schools Secretary (who represents schools on the Trampoline Competitions Committee of British Gymnastics), and a National Schools Co-ordinator. The latter two posts are elected to the Executive of the B.S.G.A each year. Meetings of the Regional Schools Trampolining Representatives, and the Trampolining Representatives of the BSGA Executive, are held periodically to review the status of the sport, and to consider any proposals and recommendations that have been received for the development of the Schools Competitions, or of any other aspect of trampolining activity in the school environment. Anyone who is involved with the sport in connection with schools is welcome and encouraged to raise any ideas that might benefit the sport and its participants. Minutes of these meetings are circulated to all known Regional Schools Trampolining Representatives, and to the Executive of the BSGA, whilst a summary of any significant developments and changes will be displayed on this web site.

The Advancement of Trampolining
By Newton C. Loken
Gymnastics Coach, University of Michigan A year ago, I predicted that trampolining would advance within the ensuing year to a point where the competitors would be doing much more than the single flips, single twists, etc., and instead would be doing doubles, back-flips, double front-flips, double twisters and small fliffuses. Now, as we review the performance of the past season, we can readily see that the prediction was too conservative. Results show that the trampoline champions did stunts of a much higher degree of difficulty than the stunts mentioned above. Included were triple twisting back-flips, back full-fliffuses, front full-fliffuses and front flips with two and a half twists. As a specific example of the tremendous advancement made in trampolining in the past year, let us review a routine performed by Edsel Buchanan, sophomore at the University of Michigan (1949 trampoline champion in the Western Conference Gymnastic Meet, Western Open Gymnastic Meet, National Collegiate Gymnastic Meet), executed the following routine to achieve his outstanding record of winning four major championships in one season: A back flip with a triple twist several bounces into a front half fliffus, into a back flip into a front flip, with a one and half twist into a back flip with a double twist; three or four bounces into a back double flip into a Baroni into a back flip into a front flip with a one and a half twist into a back flip into a back flip with a double twist into a Baroni; three or four bounces into a back flip with a double twist into a front flip with a one and a half twist into a Baroni, into a back flip, into a back flip, into a back flip with a double twist into a Baroni into a back flip into a front flip with a one and a half twist, into a back flip into a back flip with a double twist, ending with a half back flip to a front drop into a full turn-table to a standing "parade rest" position.

The University of Newcastle - Australia Home Search Quick Find ... Contact Us Trampolining - Bounce On! The trampolining club was formed in August 2001 when a group of frustrated gymnasts, would be stuntmen, hopeful snowboarders, aspiring acrobats and incorrigible showoffs came together to form the club. Members were recruited under the mantra "Join the Trampolining Club; No one is too untalented" and it appears people took us at our word. Interested in learning new and exciting skills, ranging from the patented "Leanne Swivel Hips" to the crowd pleasing "Front Donkey-Double" - well contact us. We are planning to compete in the Australian University Championships and other competitions during the year. Competitions are run in levels, from novice to expert so there are no excuses! Training is always great fun with many new friends made along the way. You ask the cost for all this - well only $5 to become a member, and $1 for each training session to put towards equipment and hire costs. If you believe that exercise should be fun, enjoyable and something that scares you, or if you just want to fly, then join the trampolining club. We are planning a dangerous I mean exciting social calendar, including silly games days, backyard trampolining/BBQ afternoons, and many other social events!
