Welcome to our new website! Flying V Vaulting Team is the 8th competitive club in New South Wales. We are based on Cotter Rd, Weston Creek, ACT, Australia, and boast the most innovative training program of the state. We are the pioneers of the certificate and medal programs in this country, and are currently working hard to implement them Australia-wide. So, what exactly is vaulting? You may well ask, as it is a relatively new horse sport in Australia. Not a day goes by without someone asking that very question! To explain the sport to newcomers, I have written a brief article, just to give you an idea of what it is. Click here for article. The team currently consists of several regular vaulters, who go to competitions, and anywhere up to ten or fifteen casual vaulters. We always have fantastic training sessions, with a great deal of fun activities as well as the serious training elements. Click here to meet the team. Who could forget our horses! They are our most important team members! We have two horses in work at the moment, and they are the most wonderful creatures you could imagine. Meet them here.

Vaulting Safety and the Use of Protective Headgear
Vaulting is defined as the performance of gymnastic and acrobatic exercises on a moving horse. This sport requires teamwork by the horse, the vaulter and the longeur who controls the horse in a circle. In individual vaulting youth and young adults may demonstrate their individual abilities and skills in the gymnastics or skating, and by their own Kur or freestyle routines. In team vaulting all vaulters perform their compulsory exercises together with up to three vaulters on the horse at a time Their combined weight does net exceed 400 pounds on the horse. Vaulting is one of the oldest known sports. In early Roman times the annual games consisted of chariot and horse racing as well as acrobatic displays on cantering horses. Vaulting, along with riding; fencing, archery and several other sports, was a permanent part of the educational program of young Romans of high social standing, During the middle ages knights practiced jumping onto horses and performing elegant exercises on horseback while in armor. During the Renaissance, vaulting was a preparatory exercise for equestrian disciplines but also evolved into an independent discipline in which the horse was replaced by a wooden model. It is at this point that exercises were developed which formed the basis of modern gymnastics.

It's Vaulting! Gymnastics on Horseback
With a history extending back to Roman sports, vaulting requires the teamwork of the vaulter, horse and lungeur, who controls the horse in a circle on a lunge line. Vaulters may compete as individuals, in pairs, or as a team.
Vaulting promotes excellent balance, co-ordination, and harmony and respect for your horse. For those of us who ride also, it develops a strong seat and position, which is essential for riders of all levels. Team work and trust is fostered through team vaulting, and we also learn about horse care with much less cost!

Vaulting Exhibitions Vaulting is almost certainly the least-known of the recognized equestrian sports, and a major function of the American Vaulting Association is providing educational material and opportunities for the general and non-vaulting equestrian public to see the sport demonstrated. During the past few years there have been several demonstrations of equestrian vaulting conducted in conjunction with other events attracting national attention. The AVA Friendship Team The American Vaulting Association Friendship Team is a specially selected group of high-level vaulters from vaulting clubs and teams across the country. Formed in 1995 to represent the sport of vaulting at events all over the country, they come together, and perform - often on unfamiliar horses and sometimes less than perfect footing - but always put on a wonderful program and represent our sport well. The Friendship Team will also participate in Equitana USA on June 15 - 17, 2000. See story 1996 CENTENNIAL OLYMPICS
