wheelchair basketball is a version of basketball in which all players must remain seated during the game.

Mailinglist Schedule Bord Wheelchair Basketball iWheelchair Basketballj Wheelchair basketball is a version of basketball in which all players must remain seated during the game. This game is primarily designed for persons with lower extremity disabilities who are able to take a sitting position.
The rules of wheelchair basketball are basically the same as those of regular, or running, basketball, except for some modifications made for players in wheelchairs as mentioned below. This means that the playing court dimensions, height of the goal (basket) and ball size are identical to those for regular basketball. As a matter of course, players are not allowed to stand up and walk during the game. Wheelchair basketball is very popular among people confined to wheelchairs around the world. In the United States and some other countries, there are even professional wheelchair basketball teams. Rules specific to wheelchair basketball 1. A player who is holding the ball may push on the wheels of the wheelchair no more than twice, before dribbling to maintain possession of the ball.
2. Each player is given a point value according to the system of player classification by the degree of disability. The total of the points values of the five participating players of a team may not exceed 14.0.

Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Association
Association canadienne de basketball en fauteuil roulant
Wheelchair basketball in Canada is played in accordance with the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) rules which have been modified from Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). There are some adaptations for play in the various divisions of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) to encourage development. Some teams in Canada play in a league governed by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) which is the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Association (CWBA) counterpart in the United States. The rules used in that game are modified from those used in National Colleges Athletics Association (NCAA) league play. The wheelchair is considered a piece of equipment in the game and has the following restrictions: Only one cushion is permitted on the seat of the chair and may not exceed 10cm in thickness for class 1.0 - 3.0 players and no more than 5cm for 3.5 - 4.5 players; Foot rests may not be higher than 11cm;

Jeremy Lade hit an 18 foot bankshot from just inside the three point line as time expired to give the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Championship with a narrow two-point victory over the University of Texas-Arlington. The host Warhawks, who had split their season series with the Movin' Mavs, won for the second time against UTA this season on a shot at the buzzer. The victory denied Jim Hayes of a record seventh intercollegiate title. He currently shares the record for most intercollegiate titles with former U of I Coach Brad Hedrick.
