First thing you have to do is go to "WildWays" and stock up on all bike parts, then head towards Grandforks about 3km.Turn right on Stewert Creek Rd,and go up 6.5km and there is a pulloff on the right hand side. The trail accually say's that it is T.N.T,but you have to follow this trail through two gullies and at the top of the second gully, if you have a good eye you'll see it.That's all the info I can give you because it is a secret trail that was put in by some good friends. If you really want to get crazy and your going by this way check it out,but please be nice to all the tricks and remember that the nearest hospital is about an hour and a half away. Well,it starts of with..................!All that I'm going to say about this trail is that,I've been stuck in the downhill part of mountain biking for a while and don't get me wrong, there's nothing better than racing down the hill at 120km/hr.This trail and this type of riding is the real newschool riding and this trail is meant for the fearless.I thought that it was'nt going to be that bad of a trail, but it seem's that out of about every ten times that I've ridden the trail, I end up walking my bike out about 4-6 time's.This trail will eat you up and spit you out.P.S,bring your video camera Submitted by: Shane D'Appolonia Mar. 24, 2001

Cross Country Skiing
Snowfall mutes the sounds of the world as Sandoval County bundles up for winter. Cross country and telemark skiers and snowshoers delight in the tracks of rabbit, elk and deer, the only signs of life in the whiteness. Cross country skiers will find a trail bonanza within a 20 mile drive of La Cueva. East of La Cueva along Hwy 4, encounter five different ski areas, including an easy two and a half mile loop trail near Redondo Campground and more difficult trails in the Los Griegos area, which offers views of Redondo Peak and Valle Grande. West of La Cueva on Hwy 126, don't miss Valle San Antonio Road, a five mile, one-way trip to San Antonio Hot Spring. Soak in the hot spring and enjoy views of the Bandelier Tuff cliffs across the canyon. Off US 550 and east of Cuba on Hwy 126, Blue Bird Mesa Road has a trail for any level skier, but cross-country aficionados will thrive in the challenging San Pedro Parks Wilderness Area and enjoy beautiful, large meadows. For current snow conditions and trail information call Sam Beard, 505-828-0673 (evenings and weekends) of the NMCC Ski Club

Lets go Off-Road
With Team Phoenix
JAY Xtreme/Team Phoenix had an off-road wheelchair camp. It is a series sponsored by ITT Hartford. It is a great opportunity for physically challenged people to try out the sport of mountain biking. I loved it. The team has six off-road chairs for you and me to try, so TAKE IT EASY! The team works very hard maintaining the equipment and teaching us how to ride. If you beat on a chair and break it, the next camp will suffer. I made it up to the camp on the second day, actually late the night before. We book a room at "The Inn at Mount Snow". It was the only accessible place we could find, and it was great. If you are going to Mount Snow, and you need wheelchair access and a bathroom your chair can fit in, stay at "The Inn at Mount Snow". That was just a helpful tip. Anyway, we arrived at the Hartford trailer in the morning, there was a bunch of off-road chairs all lined up and some team members around them. I just knew this was going to be cool. They had the morning booked up with riders, so I took some pics and some video and got to talk to a lot of great people. In the afternoon it was my turn. I was pointed to a chair and I transferred in it. Sarah Will is on the team and she was coaching me on the do's and don'ts of body position and riding down the mountain. I was so excited to meet her that I did not hear a word she said, "Just kidding Sarah". No, seriously, she was very helpful and very professional. The whole team was great I felt very comfortable with this group, and you will too.

Cross-Country Short Track Cross-Country ...
Brutsaert The downhill daredevils had been patiently waiting all week long, and on Sunday they were unleashed. The first NORBA National Championship Series downhill took place here at Snow Summit, with a 2.2 mile-long course that dropped over 1200 vertical feet. The track wasn't overly technical, but the speed was hard to control. Myles Rockwell and Elke Brutsaert found flawless final runs to take gold, but... Not a minute later did Brutsaert better Donovan's time by two seconds - with a conservative approach. "There were some parts of the course that I didn't go hard on, like the jumps at the end. It's too big of a risk to take this early in the season," said Brutsaert. This is her second consecutive Visa downhill win at Snow Summit and she shows no sign of slowing down. So, Donovan ended the day with silver and in third was 17-year-old Kathy Pruitt from Lake Almanor, Ca. She's no stranger to NORBA and has been gunning for the junior world championships in June. Look for her in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

  • repair kit
    • patches for inner tube
    • a tube of glue (make certain that the glue hasn't dried out)
    • a small (about 1" x 0.5") piece of emery cloth or #100 sandpaper
    • two or three tire levers (preferably plasticnot metal)
    • a spare inner tube, in case a tube is damaged beyond repair
    • an air pump (preferably aluminumnot plastic)
    • a piece of duct tape or plastic to line the tire if it gets a large puncture
    • a crescent wrench (if your bike does not have quick-release hubs or Allen bolts)
    • a set of Allen keys or a screwdriver, depending on what type of fasteners are on your bike
    • a spoke wrench
    • a chain breaker and spare chain links
  • one or two bottles of water or sports drink
  • lunch and energy bars
  • sunglasses and suncreen
  • bike helmet
Bicycle Helmets
The cost of a bicycle helmet ranges from $25 to $200, but the cost of not wearing one can be much higher. About 80% of cycling fatalities involve head injuries. Wearing a helmet can make the difference between walking away and spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair. Is there any difference between a $25 helmet and a $200 dollar one (besides the price)? The expensive one may look a little fancier and have more air vents but they both should meet the ANSI or Snell standards and have a US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or Canadian Safety Association (CSA) sticker. Scenic Drives A. Cape Tourville -
The 6.4 kilometre road to Cape Tourville leaves from the main road just after the Freycinet Lodge. The road is unsealed and quite rough in places. There are sweeping views along the coast from the lookout at the end of the road. A short circuit walk is available at Cape Tourville. B. The Friendly Beaches -
Spectacular views and miles of unspoiled white sand beaches are the main features of The Friendly Beaches, which were added to the national park in1992. The beaches can be reached via a signposted turnoff on the Coles Bay Road. We are upgrading facilities, which at present are only basic. Gravel roads lead to car parks overlooking the beaches at a couple of points. Some information signs point out interesting features and foot tracks lead to the beaches. Basic camping is permitted at Isaacs Point and Ridge Camp, though there is no fresh water. Isaacs Point also has pit toilets. top of page^ Fishing Great Oyster Bay offers one of the best in-shore fisheries in Australia. The Bay abounds with a variety of top class table fish including flathead, Australian salmon, trevally, trumpeter and squid. For the more adventurous, Coles Bay is an excellent base for big game fishing, especially during the autumn when the giant blue fin tuna run. Dolphins are common and whales are often sighted in the winter.
