    NIH Bioengineering Consortium (BECON)
Welcome to the BECON Web Site - Your Source of Information about Bioengineering at the NIH
BECON The Bioengineering Consortium (BECON) is the focus of bioengineering activities at the NIH. The Consortium consists of senior-level representatives from all of the NIH institutes, centers, and divisions plus representatives of other Federal agencies concerned with biomedical research and development. The BECON is administered by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). What is Bioengineering? - Bioengineering integrates physical, chemical, mathematical, and computational sciences and engineering principles to study biology, medicine, behavior, and health. It advances fundamental concepts; creates knowledge from the molecular to the organ systems levels; and develops innovative biologics, materials, processes, implants, devices, and informatics approaches for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, for patient rehabilitation, and for improving health (
