Colorado Springs Fort Collins North Denver Since 1973, JR Engineering has successfully served a variety of clients in Colorado. Areas of service include land development, surveying, surface transportation, water resources, and structural engineering as well as construction observation in each of our major disciplines. Our in-house staff of over 250 engineers, surveyors, and support personnel enables us to respond quickly to demanding assignments, project schedules and changing project scopes. " We have the resources to carry a project from start to finish - from preliminary engineering to final design through construction observation. Frequently, we successfully assemble teams of technical specialists from our six offices to respond to the unique needs of our clients and their individual projects. Highlights of our major disciplines include:
  • For over 25 years, JR has been involved in new development, expansion, and rehabilitation of roadways, highways, intersections, structures, and bridges. We have planned and designed hundreds of miles of surface transportation facilities ranging from rural roads through interstate highways.

http://www.na.chalmers.se/mkt/
Marine structural engineering deals with the design analysis and system availability of ships and floating offshore structures, i.e. structural analysis with regard to human behavior in the ocean environment. Fatigue and ultimate load analysis for stochastic loading in corrosive environment are subjects of international ship research. The practical application of the results will give increased safety, increased structural life and lower maintenance costs.
Research profile
The research is focused on fatigue of welded ship structures and in particular retardation effects that are typical of ship structures, where structural strain in many details are exceptionally high. The research also deals with the mechanical interaction between polymer coating and the steel structure. The most important tools for research are the non-linear finite element method and experiments.

Calling the situation "the tip of the iceberg," the engineer who sounded the alarm to evacuate the 18-story Brickell Harbour condominium along Miami's Biscayne Bay strongly suspects the building is not the only one in the area with destressed post-tensioning cables in concrete slabs. But in an effort to prevent panic, building officials are awaiting the engineer's damage report, due by April, before taking any other action. Plan picked for Ground Zero
With the Feb. 26 selection of the Studio Daniel Libeskind plan for the World Trade Center replacement, it is dawning on many that what is shown is not necessarily "what you get." Officials still are presenting a united front in support of the plan, which includes the world's tallest tower, but questions linger about whether it will be watered down

Brought to you by buildings ASSOCIATIONS Structural Engineering Groups Cooperate To Build Strength (2/10/03 Issue) By Nadine M. Post in Clearwater Beach S ensing that there is strength in unity and tired of duplicating efforts, leaders of the three national organizations representing professional structural engineers are cautiously putting aside their differences in an effort to better tackle the issues facing the profession. SHAH MESSER At a Feb. 2 meeting of the Leaders Forum, composed of the groups' elected officials and staff directors, a decision was made to rev up cooperation efforts. The four-hour session, which preceded NCSEA's winter institute in Clearwater Beach, Fla., "was the first time we really started to talk in detail about the alignment of the three organizations," says Raymond F. Messer, chairman of CASE and chairman of Walter P. Moore Engineers and Consultants, Houston.

    http://www.ncl.ac.uk/civeng/undergrad/ucivstruc.html
Civil and Structural Engineering Degree Programme B.Eng. and M.Eng. A General Overview Engineering Council (the administrative body which monitors and regulates the academic and practical training of all professional engineers) has recently recommended that, in future, all those wishing to become Chartered Engineers should possess a Degree of Master of Engineering (or equivalent) obtained from a U.K. university, and that graduates with 3 year B.Eng. Degrees will need a higher Degree before being eligible for Chartered status. In view of this recommendation and in anticipation of its likely acceptance, all prospective students are strongly advised to apply for the 4 year M.Eng. Degree, when appropriate. Transfer between M.Eng. and B.Eng. by student choice is not possible until the beginning of the third year of the Degree programme. To ensure high standards are maintained, second year M.Eng. students are required to obtain a "pass with merit" based upon their average mark achieved in that year. The advantage to the student of registering on entry to the Department for the M.Eng. Degree is that academic fees charged in the normal way to the student's local education authority (LEA) are covered for all years from the start of studies. Students sometimes experience difficulty in changing from a B.Eng. Degree to an M.Eng. Degree at a later stage if the LEA does not agree to fund the additional year of study.

Weidlinger structural systems are becoming lighter, safer and more easily built, using less material to reach greater heights and longer spans. The reduced weight of these dramatic structures lowers their cost. Translucent covers and retractable roofs are features of the most recent designs - ideal for multi-use sports domes. Respectful of context and detail, our engineers design new building systems, and redesign existing ones, to age well and fit gracefully into urban sites and suburban campuses. Rehabilitation and restoration, forensic investigation and peer review are important to our practice. Advanced analysis, using software written by Weidlinger staff, ensures that our structures resist the dynamic effects of wind, earthquakes, blast and vibration. Structural Engineering Department
The Structural Engineering Department in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division offers a full range of services for the design, deterministic and probabilistic analysis, risk assessment, prototype fabrication, and testing of structural components and systems. The department has demonstrated experience in applying state-of-the-art structural technologies to a wide range of industries that include aerospace, marine, offshore, building, highway, pipeline, and transportation. The applications in these industries are linked by the common requirement that the structures must be highly reliable, since failures often have severe economic or human loss consequences. The experience of our staff and our extensive facilities for analysis, component and full-scale testing, provide the capability to address most structural problems.
