Good morning, Flora. Ms. Higgins: It's very pleasant for me to be here this morning and to talk about Long Branch and the twentieth century. What perhaps is your most salient memory? What would you like to tell us about this morning? Ms. Eisenberg: I think I would like to talk about my parents and the hotel business that they were in, in Long Branch, on the boardwalk. In the end of this story, there will be three hotels that they bought, or built, or managed in the course of their entire marriage. Ms. Higgins: That's wonderful. What are the hotels? Are they still there? Ms. Eisenberg:

World-renowned string trio visits Shoreline
The award winning Jacques Thibaud String Trio will perform at the Campus Theater on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Prize-winners in the prestigious 1999 Bonn Chamber Music Competition, the Jacques Thibaud String Trio was founded at the Berlin School of Art in 1994 and named after the great 19th-century French violinist. Unique among today's chamber ensembles, these three young musicians play by heart. Calling their playing spontaneous and commanding, the New York Times said, "This could be the first string trio in some time to have a major career." These musicians are clearly on a mission, but they are also having fun. The program will include Trio in C minor, Op. 9 No. 3 by Beethoven; String Trio by Jean Franaix; Adagio and Fugue No. 6 in F minor by W.F. Bach and Mozart; Adagio and Fugue No. 3 in F minor by J.S. Bach and Mozart; and Serenade in C major, Op. 10 by Ernst von Dohnanyi. "Their playing had authority as well as heat; exalted expertise a triumph," said the L.A. Times.

For the love of music: Performer turned teacher puts the emphasis on fun By Melinda Bargreen

Seattle Times music critic E-mail this article Print this article Search web archive That's why she has organized the Anti-Contest, a fun-loving event that brings in high-school chamber-music groups from around the Northwest in a spoof of the traditional white-knuckle music contests. No stone-faced judges; just a chance to perform in an atmosphere of freedom and humor, with young players who suddenly aren't afraid to let loose and experience a little joy in music-making. That joy is Iglitzin's long suit, and that's a major reason she was named national winner of Chamber Music America's Award for Excellence in Chamber Music Teaching for 2002. The award, which she accepted in New York in January, will be locally celebrated at Friday's Anti-Contest. A passionate teacher who galvanizes students with her energy and her love of music, Iglitzin has the unmistakable authority of one who has been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, given it away and redesigned a new T-shirt that fits a lot better. JIMI LOTT / THE SEATTLE TIMES Karen Iglitzin leads a class at Shorewood High School in Shoreline. She has organized Friday’s just-for-fun Anti-Contest in Seattle that’s expected to draw about 50 teen chamber musicians.
