AIM practice ribbon-cutting honors On Oct. 15, faculty and staff from the Health Sciences and friends from the community gathered to celebrate the opening of the Associates in Internal Medicine (AIM) practice on the first floor of the Berrie Pavilion at 1150 St. Nicholas Ave. The AIM practice provides primary care for residents of Washington Heights/Inwood and Northern Harlem. For the past 21 years the group practice has had a physical presence in the neighborhood as a place where members of the community can secure lasting relationships with personal primary care physicians. The staff of AIM and the general medicine faculty have been involved in projects directed at enhancing the health of the community. AIM logs more than 55,000 patient visits per year, 55 percent from patients over age 65. Although the AIM practice will maintain its original practice site in the Vanderbilt Building, the new primary care center in the Berrie Pavilion will cater to the needs of young families with a focus on preventive medicine. Services provided for younger patients include asthma services, routine gynecological and medical exams, diabetes management seminars, HIV testing, social work services, anti-coagulation programs, and nutrition counseling. The new practice offers patients a warm, welcoming atmosphere with state-of-the-art exam rooms. Each exam room possesses a networked computer for electronic charting. The waiting room is large and includes sufficient seating for a busy clinic.

After a badly healed broken arm ended his aspirations as a violinist, Moore turned to the banjo and guitar and began to experiment with everyday objects as musical instruments. In spring 1917 it was announced that the FAIRBANKS TWINS were to soon appear in Florenz Ziegfeld's Follies. For the next several years they were seen in the Follies at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. The duo appeared on stage in The Midnight Frolic (a revue), Up the Ladder and in the 1929 Warner Bros. musical film, On With the Show.

The splendid Taiwan-born virtuoso, renowned for his soulful expression of emotion in classic, romantic, and modern music, acquired his nickname—used universally in the music world—during his student days at Juilliard, where he worked with Dorothy DeLay. An upbeat, energetic, and handsome man in his prime, Lin talks freely about his life and career. "When I started in my early 20s," he says, "I insisted that everyone call me Cho-Liang, but Americans gravitate to what’s easier, and so my schoolmates and teacher called me Jimmy. Finally, I gave up." Back in the 1980s, Asian names were not as common on American concert posters as they are today, and referring to his longtime pal Yo-Yo Ma, Lin adds, "My parents didn’t give me an easy name like Yo-Yo. NewsStream eCharts Artists news ... official site Dave Matthews Band The Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in early 1991, when vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar, he opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. Dave found assistance in drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville music scene. Based on the recommendation of distinguished local jazz guru John D'earth, 16-year-old musical prodigy Stefan Lessard came on board to play bass. Completing the band was keyboard player Peter Griesar, who left the band after a couple of years, as well as the talented and classically trained violinist, Boyd Tinsley. The first official gig for the newly conceived Dave Matthews Band was May 11, 1991, at a private rooftop party in Charlottesville. Its first public show was at the city's 1991 Earth Day Festival.
