De Utrechtse Kring Van Haydn tot heden is de titel van het programma dat René Eckhardt presenteert tijdens het eerste Lunchconcert van 2002. In Vredenburg was René Eckhardt al vaker te gast, onder andere met werken van Ives. De kranten en vakbladen schrijven steevast vol lof over hem. 'Eckhardt bewijst technisch en stilistisch zijn grote klasse' (Luister), en de Volkskrant noemde hem een 'pianist met uitzonderlijke kwaliteiten'. Eckhardt zelf blijft bescheiden onder alle lof die hem wordt toegezwaaid: 'Pianospelen is voor mij een innerlijke drang, een levensbehoefte. Natuurlijk is het een kick succes te hebben, en ook een beetje naamsbekendheid kan geen kwaad. FROM SPACE JAZZ TO CLASSICAL: AN ARRAY OF INNOVATIVE SOUND SUPPORTED BY THE MUSIC FUND 23 April 1998 A wide range of new contemporary music including techno, experimental, space jazz, world music and other progressive styles has received support in the latest grant decisions of the Australia Council's Music Fund. A diversity of new Australian music will be created and performed across the country and overseas through the grants, totalling nearly $1 million. The total amount requested was around $7.8 million. The 68 grants also include projects which support music in regional Australia, new work for and by young people and projects which promote cultural understanding and celebrate diversity. The Music Fund awarded Fellowships of $80,000 each for two years ($40,000 per year) to three artists involved in diverse musical areas: Dale Barlow (NSW) for composition, recording and performance. The fellowship will assist this acclaimed jazz artist to compose three major works, each featuring a jazz soloist, for Synergy, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Art Orchestra. Mr Barlow will also be involved in recording a double CD featuring Australian emerging artists and a recording project in New York. As a founding member of jazz ensemble Wizards of Oz , Mr Barlow will continue to explore Indigenous and urban themes in the development and performance of his music.
