Product Description
In many cases, the application of in situ technologies evolved as a necessity from a cost perspective. However, the basic understanding of the mechanisms and theory behind these technologies was treated as a "black box." Although we have seen some tremendous successes in the application of remediation technologies over the past several years, we have also seen many cases in which a technology has been incorrectly or inappropriately applied. In most cases, this misapplication has been the result of a poor understanding of the basic concepts and mechanisms behind the technologies. Without proper understanding, the potential for misapplication of technologies remains a serious economic and technical threat. ... Read more

Recieved the 'used' text in absolutely perfect condition. I was notified by email when the shipment was sent, very nice!

However, the 3-4 weeks shipping time was not over estimated.... it took over three weeks to get to me (which was within the timeframe quoted...) I would recommend requesting to recieve your order sooner even if it costs more.

Product Description
Plant-based biomass resources, including cereals, crop residues, seed of oil crops, sugar crops, forage crops and various woody crops, can be converted to several of bio-products through physical, chemical and biological conversion methods. Although the components of different plant-based raw materials are varied, there are four main compounds: carbohydrate (sugar, starch, cellulose and hemicellulose), lignin (poly-phenol), esters and protein. This new and important book aims to analyse the common problems of the conversion process of plant-based products starting with the key problems of the complexity of the plant-based raw materials, the 'process integration' of process engineering, and the 'structure and function' of product engineering. The concept of 'plant-based products process engineering' is advanced based on the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge, and the system of multilevel conversion is expatiated from the three areas: raw materials, conversion process and product development. These afford a theoretic and technologic support for development of plant-based products process engineering. This book also introduces the key technology platforms for plant-based products process engineering, the main approaches for using these platforms to achieve a multi-level utilisation of plant-based raw materials, and the constitution of a novel mode for the ecological industry of plant-based products. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting supplemental book
A collection of lectures by professors attending a conference in Ustica Italy in 2000, this book covers a broad range of subjects including many that are often overlooked. We use this as a supplement to our textbook (Libes) in Marine Biogeochemistry/Chemical Oceanography. The chapters on aerosols, photochemical processes and a collection of chapters on toxicants (endrocrine-disrupting, organic and organometallic compounds) round out holes in the Libes book.Additionally, the other chapters present an up-to-date view of marine chemistry and organic matter cycling. This is not a true replacement for a more traditional textbook, but it is a great readings supplement. ... Product Description
This book presents an exhaustive overview of the biogeochemical cycling of mercury in hydroelectric reservoirs as well as in natural aquatic systems of the boreal forest region of northern Québec (Canada). Presented in the form of 14 papers with an overall synthesis, it marks the conclusion of over 10 years of studies carried out by universities, governmental institutions and industries, using the latest and most appropriate sampling and analytical procedures. The results clearly show a threefold increase in atmospheric fluxes of Hg in remote areas of northern Québec over the last century and, in the case of hydroelectric reservoirs, the critical role played by the extensive flooding of land in the temporary post-impoundment increase in mercury levels in aquatic organisms and fish-eating wildlife. ... Product Description
South African temporarily open/closed estuaries (TOCEs) and similar systems along the coastlines of other regions of the world, especially Australia, are amongst the most productive aquatic ecosystems. They shift seasonally from mostly open mouth states during rainy seasons to mostly closed mouth states during the dry part of the year. This allows a whole range of juvenile forms of estuarine-dependent and estuarine-associated marine species to be recruited inside their sheltered and productive reaches, where they complete their growth to maturity. This book covers topics such as the structure and function of open/closed estuaries in South Africa, as well as outlining the future management decisions that need to be made in order to ensure the longevity of these productive ecosystems. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Climatic Changes and Water Resources
"Climatic Changes and Water Resources" offers thorough scholarly information about the impact of climate change and its affect on H20.As glaciers melt, water displaces and has to go somewhere else, which means waters will rise in other areas.Rain moves to where it ceased to exist before, while other places experience drought.

Everything and everyone on earth is in a perpetual state of movement, and so is water, which assists in the process of motion. From bodies of supply and traveling water around the globe, to ice, snow, ground water, evaporated clouds, rain, and all other sources in between, this book will serve to enlighten readers.

One of the biggest questions i wonder is: if virtually nothing ever stays the same on earth, per se, maybe water is also a part of a bigger mystery and is meant to "be different" (i.e. be in different places and do different things) over time to avoid montony? Maybe we think the changes are bad because of the negative impacts they often create, but what if they were meant to happen for the sole sake of innovation, which results in our evolution too (?).

Overall, "Climatic Changes and Water Resources" is a great read and excellent reference book for environmental or scientifically aware individuals, as well as students and spiritualists alike.

and "Ramtha on the Winds of Change" [series]. ... Read more

Product Description
This directory provides an in-depth listing of potential donors for project and proposal developments. This is especially important considering that many students, organisations and individuals, especially in Africa, still lack adequate information on potential donor organisations to support their projects and career developments. Due to this problem, many good ideas with a high potential of contributing useful information for environmental conservation and development actions fail to get support from potential donors, either through lack of information or because of the type of approach strategies adopted. This directory will better help project and proposal developers to acquire information about donors that is necessary to target project ideas, determine a potential donor's interest in supporting or investing in a project, and eliminate donors whose missions and objectives do not match particular programmes. Once a match is made, this directory will also help to tailor project ideas to the specific requirements and interests of the donors. ... Read more

Product Description
Congress continues to face questions about forestry practices, funding levels, and the federal role in wildland fire protection. Recent fire seasons have been, by most standards, among the worst in the past half century. In addition, many factors contribute to the threat of wildlife damages. Two major factors are the decline in forest and rangeland health and the expansion of residential areas into wildlands. It should also be recognised that, as long as biomass, drought and high winds exist, catastrophic wildfires will occur. This book presents results of completed questionnaires and focus group comments organised around reactions to and beliefs about wildfires and wildfire management. This book also focuses on options for protecting structures and for protecting wildlands and natural resources from wildfires. The book begins with a brief overview of the nature of wildfires, followed by a discussion of protecting structures. Wildlife damages to wildlands and natural resources are also discussed, as well as fuel treatment options and their benefits and limitations, and public involvement in federal decisions. This book consists of public documents which have been located, gathered, combined, reformatted, and enhanced with a subject index, selectively edited and bound to provide easy access. ...
