Product Description
This is a timely book in light of increasing concern over global warming and environmental pollution. It describes a simulation system based on sets of computer algorithms for comprehensive analysis of data from global and regional monitoring systems. Chapters in the theoretical part of the book contain descriptions of rigorous algorithms and global environmental models. The applied part considers specific problems of environmental dynamics in areas such as the Arctic and the Caspian-Aral Seas. The purpose of this book is to develop a universal information technology to estimate the state of environmental subsystems functioning under various climatic and anthropogenic conditions. Applied mathematicians, hydrologists, geophysicists, socio-economists and other researchers of global change will find a wealth of information in this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Handbook of Vadose Zone Characterization & Monitoring
This is a well written and well organized book offering a great deal of information on this complicated three phase system. The authors explain the partitioning of the contaminant flow into nonaqueous, dissolved, gaseous and sorbed phases. The authors have also made an effort to discuss problems and limitations related to vadose zone monitoring which I have found useful when developing workplans and understanding and interpreting data. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This collection of papers addresses the neglected area of environmental monitoring and enforcement. The editor makes clear that this aspect of environmental economics has received scant attention by professionals formulating and implementing policy. Clifford Russell sees the origins of environmental monitoring and enforcement literature as coming from two major roots: the economics of "crime and punishment"; and the choice of policy instruments. His aims in organizing this collection of essays were: to give a feel for the development of the field of environmental monitoring and enforcement over time, and particularly how it expanded from its early ties into the instrument choice literature and yet how ties to the newest instruments-choice fashion, the provision of information, show up as well; to show the reader a fair sampling of the methods and models that have been adopted by the field's contributors; to suggest where some interesting problems and promising methods seem to lie in the year 2000. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Stringent legislation is forcing manufacturing industry to be aware of the impact its operations have on the environment, in order to control and reduce the affect of those operations. Increasingly sophisticated equipment is required for this monitoring, and development of that equipment and strategies for its use is a multi-disciplinary field involving chemists, analytical scientists and engineers. This volume is divided into two parts, the first introducing the reader to the various sensor systems and illustrating the advantages and disadvantages those systems have for monitoring programmes, and the second introducing the problems associated with environmental monitoring, and showing how the sensors discussed in the first section can be applied to produce a thorough monitoring programme. ... Product Description
The purpose of environmental protection must be designed to meet the demands of an environment under progressively greater strain. In an effort to address future environmental challenges, one important goal must be the effective management of inorganic contaminants of surface water, this book provides an information base for the control of inorganic contaminants in an era of reduced environmental commitment. Considered are 24 of the most important inorganic contaminants of surface water, each systematically characterized under seven categories - production, sources and residues, chemistry, bioacumulation, toxic effects to aquatic organisms, health effects, drinking water and recommendations. This volume presents the most comprehensive and up-to-date survey of all major inorganic contaminants of surface water. Its systematic approach permits easy reference and exceptional facility with the text; its detailed emphasis on research and monitoring priorities offers an invaluable treatment for researchers and policy makers both. This book will have broad interest for environmental scientists, engineers, and managers concerned with environmental protection chemistry, and toxicology, municipal engineering, and public health. ...
