Plasma osmolality: Anterior hypothalamic osmoreceptors (anterior to the 3 rd Plasma volume: Baroreceptors (stimulated by hypervolemia, inhibited by hypovolemia) inhibit AVP release via cranial nerves IX, X. The atrial cardiopulmonary low-pressure baroreceptors are less sensitive than osmoreceptors, requiring a 5-10% decrease in blood volume before AVP is released. Severe hypovolemia, however, triggers the sino-aortic high-pressure baroreceptors to cause exponential increases in AVP, which may be high enough to exert a pressor effect. Interaction of osmo- and baroreceptors: A decrease in left atrial pressure (as in hypovolemia, hypotension) leads to a reduction of the osmotic threshold and increases the sensitivity for osmotic AVP release. Volume expansion dampens the sensitivity for osmotic AVP release.

It is a disease characterised by the passing excessive amount of urine due to the under production of Anti Diuretic Hormone (ADH), which is produced by the HYPOTHALAMUS and is stored and released by the PITUITARY.     Extractions: Main Diseases and Conditions Diabetes inspidus (DI) is a disorder that causes increased urination ( polyuria ) and increased thirst . It is caused by either a decrease in the hormone arginine vasopressin ( central DI ), or because the kidney does not respond correctly to the hormone ( nephrogenic DI ). Arginine vasopressin is a hormone that normally stimulates the collecting ducts of the kidney to reabsorb water, so if it is not able to work correctly, the kidney produces a very large volume of dilute urine. Arginine vasopressin is normally produced in the hypothalamus , and so there can be a decrease in the its production caused by any condition that disrupts the hypothalamus, including brain tumors and head trauma, and some inherited conditions (septo-optic dysplasia). Nephrogenic DI can either be inherited or it can be a side effect of some medications, including Lithium, and some chronic conditions, such as sickle cell anemia, pyelonephritis, and urinary tract obstructions.

There is often high volume urination at night of this watery urine and sometimes dehydration occurs with bouts of dizziness.
