Extractions: Most people who contemplate committing suicide are ambivalent, undecided or another way to put it is that they're "teetering" between doing it and not doing it. Imagine a big refrigerator sitting on a porch. How easy is it to move? Not very. But if it's on one edge teetering... now how easy is it to tip it either way? See? The pain has pushed them up near that edge, they are teetering between the pain of living and the pain of dying. The suicidal person is teetering on the edge of a terrible choice.... which to choose, the pain of death or the pain of life... which is the worst... hmmmm. The shortest route to preventing the suicide is to change the choices. For effective suicide prevention, you must change the choice to the pain of death or the pleasure of life. The human brain is designed to move towards pleasure and away from pain. When we increase the connection to pleasure in living AND we help the person remember and connect to the real pain of suicide they've been ignoring, we'll make a difference. This approach is a little bit Chicken Soup for the Distressed and a whole lot reality check. The primary focus here is not on all the reasons they're depressed. Too often reasons turn into excuses to commit murder, self-murder. Instead this is based on increasing the healthy pleasure in their life NOW and showing them in no uncertain terms that suicide doesn't take away the pain, how it in fact multiplies the pain. This approach is based on leverage and common sense. We can't prevent every suicide. We're going to prevent a lot more of them than we have in the past.

He had terminal prostate cancer. Besides the two-year prison term, Trautman was ordered to serve six years of extended supervision after being released from prison. The three-judge appeals court unanimously upheld the conviction and the prison term. Trautman contended the sentence was unduly harsh and that Brown County Circuit Judge Donald Zuidmulder abused his discretion by sentencing her according to a preconceived sentencing policy. Trautman became friends with Krerowicz in October 2000 when she moved into the apartment building where he lived, court records said. Trautman is incarcerated at Taycheedah Correctional Institution, where she eats her meals in her cell because she is unable to walk to the dining hall and is not permitted to be taken there in a wheelchair, court records said. The victims were all reported to be between 18 and 24 years old and were found in various rooms of the home in Rancho Santa Fe, an exclusive community about 20 miles (32 km) north of San Diego. "They're dressed similarly, all lying in a prone position, hands at their side as if asleep," said Cmdr. Alan Fulmer of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He said the men were wearing dark pants and tennis shoes, and there were no signs of trauma or blood. He would not disclose how the men may have died or how long the bodies had been at the house. Authorities were not releasing victims' names, pending the notification of relatives. The Sheriff's Department received an anonymous phone call at mid-afternoon from someone who said there had been a mass suicide and who provided the address of the mansion.

That event shattered my life and put me on a very dark road with no light and no road map. Because I had no frame of reference for surviving a suicide death, recovery was long and difficult. But with God's help and the support of loving friends and family, I have traveled through the darkest part of my healing journey, and I am at the place where I want to share my experience with other survivors. In an effort to support other survivors of suicide in my community, I facilitate a bereavement group for adult survivors at Central Christian Church. The group meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. If you are in the Las Vegas area and want further information, please email me or call the church office (702-735-4004). There is also a group that meets on the second and fourth Monday from 7:00-8:30 PM. It is located at the Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Rd.
