5-0 out of 5 stars The Pages Of Your Life

How often we're grasping at straws, when we should be gripping the pages of a book written by an expert, someone who cares, someone who is not merely looking to reap the monetary rewards of royalties, nor the roar of the crowd of recognition and fame.

Such was the case with Dr.Claire Weekes' "Agoraphobia" -- a book which literally transformed my life after a terrifying and debilitating personal trauma.Suddenly, I had found myself thrust into a world of fear. The cyclical events of fight or flight ... could this keep happening again and again?Who would or could help me to overcome the effects of this experience?Noone could know what I was feeling, could they? How was I to spend the rest of my life living with fear all about me when I had so much to do?

I found myself browsing the "How to" book section and there it was... "a simple treatment for agorphobia."Was that what this was? I thought I was losing my mind. However, as I eagerly thumbed through the pages, I found other stories like mine. There *was* a cure, and it *was* simple enough.

After following Dr. Claire Weekes' suggestions, learning to go with the "flow" instead of fighting it. Learning to "accept" ... I empowered myself with the strength to find myself again. I left the fear behind me after nearly two years of constant suffering.

This was all accomplished within the pages of this wonderful book.Dr. Weekes, the Australian physician who was the pioneer in the area of agoraphobia, is no longer with us, but wherever she is, I hope she knows how many people are grateful to her for returning their lives to them.

I see this book is listed at Amazon.com as "hard to find."Well, don't give up trying to find it because this book will transform your life like it did mine.

Thank you, Dr. Weekes.

Description:
The present study investigated the effect of fear on paralinguistic aspects of speech in patients suffering from panic disorder with agoraphobia (N = 25). An experiment was conducted that comprised two modules: Autobiographical Talking and Script Talking. Each module consisted of two emotional conditions: Fearful and Happy. Speech was recorded digitally and analyzed using PRAAT, a computer program designed to extract paralinguistic measures from digitally recorded spoken sound. In addition to subjective fear, several speech characteristics were measured as a reflection of psychophysiology: rate of speech, mean pitch and pitch variability. Results show that in Autobiographical Talking speech was slower, had a lower pitch, and a lower pitch variability than in Script Talking. Pitch variability was lower in Fearful than in Happy speech. The findings indicate that paralinguistic aspects of speech, especially pitch variability, are promising measures to gain information about fear processing during the recollection of autobiographical memories. ... Description:
The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of Internet administered questionnaires used in panic research. Included were 494 people who had registered for an Internet-based treatment program for panic disorder (PD). Participants were randomly assigned to fill in the questionnaires either on the Internet or the paper-and-pencil versions, and then to fill in the same questionnaires again the next day using the other format. The questionnaires were the body sensations questionnaire [BSQ; Chambless, D. L., Caputo, G. C., Bright, P., & Gallagher, R. (1984). Assessment of fear of fear in agoraphobics: the body sensations questionnaire and the agoraphobic cognitions questionnaire. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 52, 1090-1097], agoraphobic cognitions questionnaire [ACQ; Chambless, D. L., Caputo, G. C., Bright, P., & Gallagher, R. (1984). Assessment of fear of fear in agoraphobics: the body sensations questionnaire and the agoraphobic cognitions questionnaire. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 52, 1090-1097], mobility inventory [MI; Chambless, D. L., Caputo, G., Jasin, S., Gracely, E. J., & Williams, C. (1985). The mobility inventory for agoraphobia. Behaviour Research and Therapy, 23, 35-44], beck anxiety inventory [BAI; Beck, A. T., Epstein, N., Brown, G., & Steer, R. A. (1988). An inventory for measuring clinical anxiety: psychometric properties. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 56, 893-897], beck depression inventory II [Beck, A. T., & Steer, R. A. (1996). Beck Depression Inventory. Manual, Svensk version (Swedish version). Fagernes, Norway: Psykologiforlaget, AB], quality of life inventory [QOLI; Frisch, M. B., Cornell, J., Villanueva, M., & Retzlaff, P. J. (1992). Clinical validation of the quality of life inventory. A measure of life satisfaction for use in treatment planning and outcome assessment. Psychological Assessment, 4, 92-101], and montgomery Asberg depression rating scale [MADRS; Svanborg, P., & Asberg, M. (1994). A new self-rating scale for depression and anxiety states based on the comprehensive psychopathological rating scale. ACTA Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 89, 21-28]. Results showed largely equivalent psychometric properties for the two administration formats (Cronbach's @a between 0.79 and 0.95). The results also showed high and significant correlations between the Internet and the paper-and-pencil versions. Analyses of order effects showed an interaction effect for the BSQ and the MI (subscale Accompanied), a main effect was identified for ACQ, MI-Alone, BAI and BDI II. However, in contrast to previous research, the Internet version did not consistently generate higher scores and effect sizes for the differences were generally low. Given the presence of an interaction effect, we recommend that the administration format should be stable in research across measurement points. Finally, the findings suggest that Internet versions of questionnaires used in PD research can be used with confidence. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fundamental Prattle
I suffer from panic attacks, so I pick up pretty much any book I come across dealing with them, but I wish I had left this one on the shelf. This book basically informs you that the answer to your chemical imbalance is God.Uh, what? How exactly is God going to help me rebalance the neurotransmitters in my brain?I admit I didn't even get all the way through this book, but its message was clear:it's not therapy or medication or meditation or exposure that's going to cure you, its a deity that the author just assumes that you believe in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Panic Busters
Having suffered panic attacks myself for nearly 19 years, I was thrilled to find a book that could actually help me.After reading many secular books on panic disorder over the years and getting nowhere, Bonnie's bookhelped me believe God had a better plan for me...which didn't include panicattacks.Bonnie tells of her own experience with panic attacks and how Goddelivered her through prayer and trusting Him to help her. This book isperfect for Christians because it points you straight to the Bible.Mysearch is over as far as books on panic attacks are concerned.Followingthe guidelines set forth in Bonnie's book I really do believe I canovercome, which is something I once thought was impossible. This is a bookof hope for anyone who suffers from panic attacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prayer is the answer to anxiety and panic attacks.
Bonnie Crandall suffered with panic disorder and agoraphobia for 20 years. She outlines her plan for overcoming panic attacks and anxiety. Her book is based on the Word of God and is a powerful tool for those of us who are looking for God's way to deal with this debilitating disorder. God's Word and prayer is the way out and Panic Buster can help you become a PD Overcomer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book is very good in that it explains panic attacks and what agoraphobia is,thenit shows how to overcome them through the word of God using passages from the bible. There is a promise from God for each anxiety and fear we have and this is the book to read to understand how to learn to cope using the truth of God'sword. The questions at the end of each chapter are very helpful because I go back from time to time and see how far I have come in my recovery since I last answered the questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book gives you the answers you have been looking for!
This book has given me the insight that I needed to help myself understand exactly what panic disorder is and how I can be set "free" from it with God as #1 in my life! Bonnie Crandall has been through it all when it comes to panic disorder and teaches you to become an "overcomer"! ... Read more
