5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for traveling with food allergies or sensitivities
This is the first multi-lingual allergy guide I have ever come across. The authors have done an excellent job.Though dialects may vary, and certain regions may have their own ways of describing a food, this is a very helpful little resource.

It is literally the size of a passport, and thus perfect for travel. It is English based with translations for French, German, Spanish, and Italian. The phrases address various situations (from conversing with waiters to describing symptoms to a doctor) and the food translations cover the "top eight" food allergens (milk, wheat, eggs, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts) plus gluten and corn. I highly recommend this phrase book for anyone who is traveling with food allergies, intolerances, or a special diet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God didn't make you allergic to anything
Colbert again shows us how to live a healthier lifestyle and take care of our temple. He goes further into emotional reasons why our immune systems get hammered in ""Deadly Emotions".See also "A More Excellent Way" by Henry Wright, a ministry where many people with allergies learn how to get healed.Much better than NAET!

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding
This helpful book is full of God's wisdom!God has used Dr. Colbert as a vessel to convey truth to me and my family regarding walking in Divine health! This book does not delve into "new age" teachings, as others have accused.Obviously, they have no spiritual discernment. This is VERY sound, VERY Biblical advice!

3-0 out of 5 stars helpful book!
I liked this book by Dr. Colbert and just ordered one from amazon.com for my father who is suffering from allergies to dust mites and chemicals in food.I think the first review that had one star had a most hateful attitude.Dr. Colbert really loves the Lord and it shows in his books. He desires for people to be healthy and whole and so does the Lord.He is our Father and wants his children to be well. What father doesn't?Conventional allergy treatments such as desensitization shots are helpful but sometimes people need more.My daughter had 5 years of allergy shots and still suffers from allergies. We shy away from drugs because drugs cause side effects and they cause you to lose nutrients as they are detoxified by the body. currently our daughter is on a homeopathic treatment prescribed by her naturopathic doctor and it is helping.Dr. Colbert is not I repeat not into New Age type of thinking and remedies. This person the first review insulted Dr. Colbert's integrity and my opinion of this person is that they are mean spirited and judgemental!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudoscientific claptrap
The Bible Cure for Allergies is nothing but pseudoscientific claptrap designed to convince the gullible that ancient peoples were somehow healthier than we are. (Most ancients lived short, pain-filled lives, but you won't read that here.) Far from being Biblical, this book would insult many conservative Christians with its constant references to New Age healing powers and the like.

Reputable allergy treatments do not contravene the teachings of the Bible. There is therefore no reason for anyone, no matter how devout or religious, to resort to the unproven, ineffective, expensive remedies this book recommends. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars handy reference
This was one of the first allergy cookbooks that we bought when we found we were faced with mutliple severe food allergies.

Long on baked goods - short on meals, but still a handy reference, and uses easily accessible ingredients. No pink elephants on the ingredient list. All sorts of cookies, cakes, muffins, bars, desserts, pancakes etc.

Easy to read and easy to make recipes.

We have tried many recipes from this one. My daughter's favorite dessert is the swirl cake that we make based on the recipe of this book. That is enough of a positive review for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lacks variety
I was looking for a real cookbook with a VARIETY of ideas including NEW meal ideas. The back of the book states "A full range of menu ideas . . ."Not true.Of the 300 recipes in the book, about 250 are for cookies, cakes, pies, sweet breads, muffins and other dessert type items. There are only 50 recipes in the "Main Meals" chapter and it looks like they were stretching to fill the chapter.About 10 of the recipes in "Main Meals" are made of potatoes such as "Potato Fans": slice a potato, sprinkle with salt and bake. Wow. I can barely contain myself.Four of the recipes were for more breads like corn bread and then the all-to-creative Chicken & Rice and Pizza --which is what I'm trying to get away from. I wanted was some NEW creative ideas for meals or side dishes. I will keep looking for a better book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing, but not the best
When we first found out our daughter had multiple food allergies we bought this book after getting tons of great info from FAAN.(FAAN is a wonderful resource, everyone dealing with food allergies should join.)

Unfortunately, I think that this cookbook leaves a lot to be desired. We found ourselves disappointed by many of the recipes we tried in here; particularly, the wheat-free recipes often came out with very poor texture.

For baked goods and especially desserts, I'd recommend Cindy Moseley's "Great Foods Without Worry" over this one.We also routinely use some of the recipes from the "Gluten Free Gourmet".This might be a good third or fourth book if you're looking for more ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice selection of recipes
Easy to make recipes and a wide selection. So far, every recipe I've tried has been good. As with any allergy cook book, there will be recipes using an item you may have an allergy to. In some cases they give substitutions for various ingredients to a particular recipe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook even for people without foode allergies!
This cookbook has very imaginative, easy recipes that are better tasting than what you find in many standard cookbooks. While I agree with the reader who calls it a "dessert cookbook", preparing main courses for someone with food allergies is much easier, ie I don't cook fish dishes because my daughter has a fish allergy. However finding baking recipes without eggs or nuts is much more difficult. This book does an excellent job and you never feel as though you are compromising. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars not the book for me
I have multiple severe food allergies (eat something that touched a peanut and end up in the emergency room with a swollen face type deal). I came to this book looking for tips about good avoidance and some explanations about the actual chemistry of the reactions themselves. All I got were a few dismissive lines about how people with severe allergies just need to avoid the foods that make them sick. Thanks. If you have a more subtle problem, like eczema you can't seem to shake or migraines, this could be the book for you, but I didn't find it to be helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cured my Migraines
I have been migraine-free for five years since reading this book!

I had tried Imitrex, acupuncture, physical therapy, massage, biofeedback, chiropractics, herbs, oral sprays and everything I had heard of for migraines except Botox injections and nerve severance.

My general practitioner, second opinion doctors and neurologists told me to avoid red wine, Chinese food and chocolate.Their "migraine diet" came from the back of an Imitrex pamphlet (keep in mind, this was five years ago).

When I told my doctor about my self-diagnosis of food intolerances from this book, she tried to act like she already knew this. Then why didn't she diagnose me?Why didn't she put me on an elimination diet? Why didn't she send me to a nutritionist, allergist or immunologist? Why did she put a teenage liver on codeine permanently and say I would have to live with it or grow out of it?

If your doctor is not part of the Nutritional Enlightenment, YOU NEED THIS BOOK to help you find the right specialist.

Even if this book isn't all inclusive, it will introduce you to the basic concepts and terms to Google and talk to your practitioner about.

I am not sensationalizing that this book changed my life.I almost didn't graduate high school because of migraines, and now I have a computer science degree.

2-0 out of 5 stars Would make a good magazine article
Though it does contain some interesting information, the book seems to be written for somebody with the IQ of a donut. He starts by detailing all his education, and then continues totalk down to the reader. He also repeats himself without adding any detail.(Yes, we learn that he really likes corn on the cob!)The contents of the book could easily be boiled down to 10 pages without missing anything important. Also, don't expect to find much of anything concerning 'classic' food allergies here.

As a saving grace, there are a few nice charts and tables at the end to help pinpoint MSG content in fast foods and elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Now it all begins to make sense
This book is practically an encyclopedia of food allergies written for ordinary people. The author is a physician and allergy specialist with almost 40 years of experience in the field. He describes how in the beginning of his career, he had not been trained to recognize food allergies in his patients, but over the years, he became more and more sensitized to the kinds of symptoms that food allergies can cause.Over time, he noted that many of his patients were allergic to the same common foods, especially what he calls the MALS foods, MSG, acidic foods, low calorie sweeteners, and sugar. The skin tests that are so much relied on for detecting environmental allergies are less informative with food allergies. In response, he has developed a method for identifying food allergies that uses a diet that eliminates common allergy causing foods and then gradually re-introduces them while the patient notes when the symptoms lessen or begin to reoccur. This diet is described in the book, together with possible rotation menus and lists of additional foods that cause problems for some people and may need to be avoided.

If you try to read this book from cover-to-cover, you will find that it is rather repetitive at times, and the organization seems in some places to be more stream-of-consciousness rather than logical. At times the avoidance of technical language or explanations seems almost evasive, and it's amazing how a doctor could write an entire book about allergies without once using the word histamine.Since the book is addressed to general readers, it does not contain in-text references to scientific studies.Nevertheless, the bibliography is replete with such references, adding credence to Walsh's message.

This book confirmed many of the phenomena that I had observed about my own food sensitivities. For example, Walsh explains that allergies are additive, so that's why I can pet a cat so long as it's not hay fever season, or I can drink a small glass of milk now and then, but not a big glass every day.Walsh also suggests that readers should trust their instincts- -if they have a strong feeling that a food is making them sick, there is a good chance that it really is. After reading this book, there is no longer any question in my mind- -food can make you sick, and you can feel a lot better once you figure out what you've been eating that is causing you trouble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Immediate Relief!
Immediate relief! That was my reward for reading this book and putting it into practice. It has my full recommendation for anyone suffering from the effects of allergies. This author is sympathtic and the book is easy to read. It is apparent that the doctor has scaled his vocabulary WAY DOWN to facilitate the reader's ability to concentrate on WHAT he is saying, rather than be dazzled by how brilliant he is.After battling allergies for 25 years, he has brought me new weapons.I thank the good doctor and am in his debt. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars To (hopefully) clear up the confusion
In response to Kila Day's comment in a previous review that the title of Allergy Cooking with Ease was misleading, the book now has a new, shorter, and more accurate subtitle. ALL of the recipes in the book are free of wheat, cow's milk, eggs, corn, and soy. Of the 358 recipes and recipe variations in the book, 332 are also free of yeast, 348 are also free of sugar (most of the desserts are fruit-sweetened), 261 are also free of all grains, and 267 are also free of gluten. Although a few of the recipes call for alternative milk or cheese, often as an optional ingredient, 333 of the recipes do not. Obviously, most of the recipes are free of all of the allergens listed in the original subtitle.

I am sorry to have disappointed Kila and the reviewer who said that too many allergens were avoided in the book and hope that the new subtitle will make things more clear. Although I obviously can't please all people at all times, the original and revised versions of Allergy Cooking with Ease have many fans and satisfied owners (~40,000). Until the recent publication of my book The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide, Allergy Cooking with Ease was my best seller.

I DO understand where Kila is "coming from" and sympathize. After thinking "I can't eat this" about most foods, if someone sees a few recipes they can't eat in a book, they immediately jump to the conclusion that they can't eat anything. With her "eleven kids too many," it's easy to understand why Kila may be doing things very quickly and without having looked at the book thoroughly.

Also, to avoid further confusion, the subtitle of the book can be changed in the "official" listings immediately, although it may take a few days for the changes to show up. However, there are quite a few books printed with the original cover design at this point. A revised cover is forthcoming but is not possible immediately. I apologize for the confusion to Kila and any other readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Recipes
I enjoyed this book, because I thought it was very insightful and helpful in dealing with food allergies. It is especially helpful for the person who is highly allergic and needs more exotic ingredients.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in ingredients
I was very disappointed when I found out that this book has various recipes without certain of these ingredient.I was excited about this book because I have all the alergens mentioned. Then when I got the book the recipes only took out some of these ingredients so you could pick the recipes that left out the alergens that you have.
The title was very misleading!Because I have all of these alergies I was hoping that all of the recipes were free of these ingredients.I have not found one recipe yet that is free of all the mentioned alergens.I am thinking of sending it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Saver if You Have A Lot of Allergies
This book is a lifesaver if you need to avoid a wide variety of foods due to your allergies.I agree with many of the reviewers that some of the ingredients are exotic, but sometimes that is the choice you need to make if common foods cause allergic reactions. For example, corn alone is estimated to be in about 80% of the processed foods in the US.If you need to avoid corn, and other common ingredients, you need to get creative.

Thanks Nickie for giving us some creative options!

Book Description

The connection between inflammation and heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic ailments has become increasingly clear. Many food allergies and poor dietary choices over stimulate the immune system and cause inflammatory responses that erode the body’s wellness and pave the path for ill health. Based on her naturopathic practice, Jessica Black has devised a complete program for how to eat and cook to minimize and even prevent inflammation and its consequences. The first part of the book explains the benefits of the anti-inflammatory diet with an accessible discussion of the science behind it. The second half contains 108 recipes. The author offers many substitution suggestions and includes a healthy ingredient tip with each recipe. Most of the dishes can be prepared quickly and easily by even novice cooks. A week of sample menus for summer months and another for winter are included, as well as a substitutions chart, allowing readers to modify their favorite recipes to increase their healing potential.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy, easy cooking
I started following Dr. Black's recipes a little over a month ago. While I would have liked to start fresh and get everything organic, I started by using what I had and getting what I needed at the convenient walmart down the way. First of all, I was surprised how tasty healthy was! Even when I messed up on the meatloaf (it came out dry coz my pan was too big), everyone who tried it wanted the recipe! No one could tell it was turkey and that I had used banana instead of eggs as binder. The baked tofu which had such a wonderful flavor, has expanded to baked tofu with shrimp and I think I'd better make lots of this sauce/marindae for future. Even the baked chicken that looked bland on paper was a one-dish wonder. Then, there is also the convenience in procuring ingredients. Even Walmart had coconut oil for baking and Food 4 Less had raw seeds! They may not be organic but they were convenient and priced right.

Since following Dr. Black's recipes, there has been some relief to my chronic rhinitis -- even though I have not followed her recipes to a tee. So it works, the dishes taste good and it's informative while being easy to read. Enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars This will collect dust
This book was not for me.Although I appreciate the effort, I am a more natural food person. This book reminded me of people who like making smoothies with all special kinds of powders to add.If you are one of those people, you may like this book.I prefer the fresh fruits and vegetables approach with nothing added.

Ok, I'll admit I'm an M.D., but I've begun to see the huge flaws in allopathic medicine.Suffering from multiple chronic conditions, some of which are a direct result of pharmacologic treatment for others, I rejected the "check box" medicine practiced today and opened my eyes.Utter frustration and a google search for "how to find a doctor that gives a hoot about your health" somehow got me to a fellow M.D. that now stands in the gap between traditional and alternative medicine. He found and corrected my nutritional deficencies and asked me to go off milk.He gave me information and space, knowing that I would eventually work this out in my head.

Back to the book - I read it in the morning, ate some oatmeal with added ground flaxseed and blueberries (my own concoction, but very tasty) and headed to the health food store, book in tow.I made lunch, a snack dip, dinner, and some granola for the next day right out of the cookbook section. They were all home runs!I LOVE to cook real food, need to chop, simmer, experiment, smell and taste complex flavors. This fits the bill. The recipes are well written and easily modified.Much of the information is included as tidbits with each recipe. The framework is well stated and easy to understand, and includes a list of foods and equipment helpful to have on hand, a couple sample week-long meal plans, and a handy chart summarizing the recommendations.

Back to me.I woke up after one day of following these recommendations headache-free, without any joint stiffnesss, and well-rested.Wow!I have NEVER experienced a dietary change that screamed "keep it up!" likes this does.Simply eliminating foods, without knowing what to add or how to make up the difference, can leave you perplexed and unbalanced. This gives you the whole picture. I do feel like I can live without tomatoes, potatoes, milk, pork, cane sugar, wheat and corn, because I have so many other tasty alternatives.Who knew there was rice syrup (tastes like caramel)?Thank you, Dr. Black!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent, health-promoting guide
Naturopathic physician Jessica K. Black presents The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book, a guide offering 125 recipes, lists of foods to eat and foods to avoid, and a full week of sample menus for summer and winter months. Written especially for individuals attempting to follow an anti-inflammatory diet who have trouble finding recipes to use, The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book offers entrees, breakfasts, salads, soups, and desserts that exclude common allergens and inflammation-aggravators such as fried foods, foods with hydrogenated oils, peanuts and peanut products, alcohol, juice, caffeinated teas and sodas, potatoes, tomatoes, wheat products, corn, sugar, pork, citrus fruits and more. Chapters also recommend foods that should be prominently featured in an anti-inflammation diet, such as pineapple (due to its content of bromelain), most fruits and vegetables, garlic, ginger, tumeric, flaxseed oil, and others. An excellent, health-promoting guide especially recommended for anyone coping with arthritis or other inflammatory illnesses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
One of the most difficult challenges I have faced when suggesting to my patients on dietary modifications is offering patients alternatives to their inflammatory menus. Not only has Dr. Black provided easy to prepare and tasty recipes, but the ingredients serve their purpose: they favor pathways that decrease inflammation.Hence patients with intensely inflammatory conditions, such as rhumatoid arthritis, have been able to experience relief, thanks to this cookbook. It offers recipes that appeal to kids and provides ample educational material for patients to resource. It is the ideal cookbook for all. ... After 5 years of my brother being diagnosed with schyzophrenia and coming in and out of mental institutions, this book came into the hands of my mother, who took him (when he was 23 years old) to Dr. Philpott's Hospital, at the time in St. Petersburg, Fla. To shorten, my brother is now 41 years old, has 3 children and has proved Dr. Philpott's stating he had cured 100% of the cases of "schyzophrenia" that came to his hands. Psychiatrists related to pharmaceuticals, of course, have always denied this capacity. If anyone knows if Dr. Philpott's work is being continued please advise to help all the victims of pharmaceuticals.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless to me!
I bought this book thinking it would be of great help to me.I found it to be absolutely useless. There are so many other valuable tools to use and informative books out there that I can only say - use your common sense - you know what you can and can't have & all you have to do is ask the server to check in the kitchen to make sure that thee either isn't, or won't be, any gluten ingredients used.I live very near NYC and I can name so many gluten free restaurants that weren't included that it's ridiculous. Don't waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!
This is a great resource to have for travelling. I love the tabbed setup that makes it easy to get to the section I need.Obviously a lot of thought was put in to making the book (with an amazing amount of info.) as easy to use as possible.

It is obvious that a great deal of thought and experimentation has been put forth in the making of this valuable resource!

After being gf (and other things free) for 5 years, I appreciate the resource as it will make it far more possible for me to visit Italy (and other countries in my future) maintaining my health as much as possible along the way! Well done!

I have dining cards and they work quite well, but the next time I travel, I will be packing this book to take as well, without a doubt!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Resource For Dining Out Gluten Free
Eating when you're away from your own home is always a challenge when you are on a special diet.

In "Let's Eat Out!" Koeller and La France have put together an impressive amount of information to make life easier for travelers and people who just want to eat out with family and friends.

I found the book a bit difficult at first because there is just so much content to sort out. It's definitely not a book to digest in one sitting!

I soon realized it really is a combination of broad reference guide and quick reference "cheat sheets." Once that became clear, it was much easier to scan and use the table of contents and index to find specific information. You can choose to just use the quick guides or go to the more detailed explanations.

All in all, the authors cover a very broad topic in an orderly fashion that makes it easy to locate information for a variety of situations. They use 7 common cuisine types, from American Steak and Seafood to Thai, to analyze the issues a diner can expect to face. They offer comments on the ingredients, the way food is prepared and on likely sources of hidden cross contamination.

After you read a couple of these, you begin to see the patterns and it would not be so difficult to apply the same process to another type of food. As they point out, it's all about educating yourself and learning what questions to ask.

Poring through their food/menu analysis, I discovered to my dismay that the item I had been selecting from a fast food restaurant most likely contains hidden gluten that I would not have thought to question. I did wonder why I didn't feel good every time I ate there!

Not only does the book cover information about individual foods, styles of cuisine, and 10 common food allergens, it also provides specific information about travel including contact information for individual airlines and the special diets they provide, contact information for associations and organizations in many parts of the world and even some translation phrases.

I'd recommend "Let's Eat Out!" as a valuable reference book. It's especially useful for those who frequently eat out or travel and even better, those who'd like to eat out more but have hesitated to take the risk. It could open up a whole new world.

The authors deserve the recognition that their book received as a Benjamin Franklin award finalist for 2006 in the Health (Wellness/Nutrition) category.

3-0 out of 5 stars For gluten intolerance and food sensitivities
"Let's Eat Out!" covers a very difficult topic, restaurant dining for people with food allergies and intolerances. For adults who should avoid top allergens due to mild to moderate food allergies and intolerances, this can be a very useful book.I have already referenced it a few times for some restaurant inspiration, outside of my usual Asian selections.

The book itself is stylishly laid out with color-coded chapters, strategically placed photographs, useful charts, and sample menus. It addresses ten of the most common food allergens: dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten (an intolerance), soy, peanuts, tree nuts, corn, fish, and shellfish.

It should be noted, that this book was written with celiac disease, multiple food "sensitivities", and gluten intolerance in mind.It may not be very appropriate for those who have life-threatening food allergies or severe intolerances. This is not to blame the authors. The various styles of food preparation combined with a high risk of cross-contamination in food service kitchens, make this a complicated area to address.Though, as one food allergy mom pointed out to me, the "Allergy-Free" title is a bit deceiving in this respect.

Also, for those who do have true food allergies, this book should not be used as a dining bible, but more as a suggestion based resource for further research and diligence. As someone who lives with a milk protein allergy, I unfortunately noted many errors with respect to the foods listed as "not containing the allergen."Guacamole (often made with sour cream), margarine (frequently contains lactose and/or milk protein), and sausages (many brands contain cheese) were just a few that caused me to raise the red flag.Your own questions and food label reading would still be required when utilizing this book.

Luckily, the authors do relay what questions to ask, and in many different languages.Kim Koeller has traveled extensively while living with multiple food allergies. This is well evidenced by the resources provided, including a multi-lingual phrase section and what seems to be a very useful airline guide. For those most interested in travel, the authors of "Let's Eat Out!" have also produced a "Multi-Lingual Phrase Passport" for food allergies that is pocket-sized.I thought this was a very handy little guide!

3-0 out of 5 stars Let's Eat Out!
Basically, it says be suspicious of EVERYTHING.As a Celiac, I am already. This book did not help me and I was disappointed but I can see how it might help someone newly diagnosed.Being vigilant is the key. ... Read more

This book was useful for a number of things - easy cooking directions, lots of recipes, and information on how to set up a rotational diet.Additionally it includes basic instruction for those of us (me!) who don'tcook.

It did seem to introduce sugar a bit soon to the diet as comparedto other books and it did not incorporate other good nutritional theory asa base (such as food combining, acid/akaline theory, blood type theory,etc.).I used much of the information in this book, but modified it toincorporate things that work for me, such as not combining carbs andprotein in one meal, limiting certain foods like tomatoes, using vegetableglycerin for a sweetener, and etc.

Other very good references are TheBody Ecology Diet (Gates), the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook (Martin),The Candida Control Cookbook by Burton, and The Cure for All Diseases (Dr.Clark).

A tip:Go slow & don't overwhelm yourself with all this newinformation at one time! It's a big change to go from limited time in akitchen to spending most of your free time cooking.I've found it helps tocut out as many social obligations as you can while you rebuild your immunesystem and it really helps to pray for the strength to stick with thechanges you want to make!

I recently found by default that I am suffering from Candida Overgrowth and set out to find all the information on it that I could.I found a lot of books that told me what I needed to do and eat; however, I had troublewith finding any that had recipes of the kinds of meals or foods that Ilike to eat. Then I found this cookbook! It explained about Candida andgave a list of possible symptoms, and then it gave a list of what a Candidasufferer should and should not eat, and gave some information on some ofthe ingredients that it uses in the recipes. It explained the connectionbetween Allergies and Candida, as well.I hadn't really made theconnection.I love this cookbook. Now, I can watch what ingredients gointo the meals that I eat and I can really enjoy eating them (instead ofchoking them down) when they have been prepared!I waste less food andfewer ingredients! It contains recipes that are free of Sugar, Yeast,Wheat, Corn, Dairy and Egg. Other books that I have really gotten gooduse out of are "The Body Ecology Diet", "Allergies andCandida with the Physicist's Rapid Solution", and "CompleteCandida Yeast Guidebook"."Allergy and Candida Cooking MadeEasy" has a wonderful baked chicken recipe that I thought waswonderful!"Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook" has a Guacamolerecipe that is absolutely delicious! Book Description
Statistics show that up to 40 percent of children in the United States suffer from allergies and at least 10 percent suffer from asthma. That translates into almost five million American children affected by both allergies and asthma. And as Dr. Allen J. Dozor, head of one of the largest pediatric pulmonary practices in the United States, has seen among his patients, some of the most upsetting effects of allergies and asthma are the psychological wounds inflicted on a child's self-image. There is the constant protectiveness from caregivers, confusing limits and rules, headaches, obesity, shortness of breath, and sleep deprivation. In some cases these side effects, such as stress and obesity, cycle back to make the original condition worse.

Dr. Dozor's plan, developed over the last twenty years, is designed to empower both parents and children. His warmhearted but reality-based approach includes

  • How to give the right amount of medication for best effects and no side effects

  • Empowering your children to manage their own condition so that they can feel safe and secure

  • Prevention and management in school

  • Handling emergencies

And much more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative yet not overwhelming
As the parent of a newly-diagnosed peanut-allegic child, I've bought and read many books on allergies in the last few months. This is my favorite. It contains practical information and tips for dealing with a nut or peanut allergy. It is easy-to-read and includes real-life ideas for staying safe with a nut allergy, as well as being realistic that there are some limitations to places nut-allergic people can safely go.Even after reading several other books, there were a few new tidbits here.

I wish I had read this book first.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative ans easy to read
This book is clearly laid out with with all the basic information you will need to deal with a nut allergy. It would be useful for some one who is allergic to ALL nuts rather that just peanuts. It lists the many different types of nut and many not so obvious places you will find hidden nuts.Help is provided for the minefield of reading food labels. There is a good chapter on the use of medication in the event of an allergic reaction, and how to store and use your medication which is a useful reference to have should you ever need to explain this to anyone; such as a teacher or babysitter. My favorite chapter was on sending a nut allergic child to school. The authors give clear solid advice on what you will need to say and do to help make the school/daycare/preschool environment as safe as possible for your child. If you are starting off on a journey to learn more about nut allergy and how it will affect your life this book will help you.
