Although there are many books on angina, few are devoted to theimportant problem of how to evaluate drug efficacy in angina pectoris.Drug Evaluation in Angina Pectoris has two fundamental aims: thefirst is to review the methodological aspects of drug evaluation instable and unstable angina pectoris; the second is to provide alogical and methodological background for future studies aimed atassessing the ability of medical treatment to improve prognosis. Part I updates the pathophysiology, clinical presentation andprognosis of angina pectoris. Part II aims to `put in numbers' thesymptoms and signs of myocardial ischemia, starting from a revision ofthe currently used parameters. It is extremely important to quantifythe variability of the disease for the correct design of clinicaltrial, a subject dealt with in Part III, which also discusses someclinico-pharmacological aspects of therapy. Part IV is a criticalreview of the drugs currently used for the treatment of stable andunstable angina, and particularly considers some important unresolvedissues concerning their use. The current FDA and EC guidelines for theevaluation of antianginal drugs are briefly discussed in Part V,giving clinical investigators insight into how antianginal drugs areevaluated by regulatory agencies and what is considered as proof of avalid efficacy/tolerability ratio. Today (2007) I'll recomend to buy other book from Prof Wellens (ECG in emergency decision making). Which is more up to date, with some litlle clues you will not have in this book. EG: RBBB in proximal LAD infarction.

Good but not complete, and a bit tedious in places
This is a good "first read" for someone who has been diagnosedwith angina.

The author covers the different types and causes of anginaand their effects, going into a bit too much detail about who did whatstudy with how many people, rather than summarizing their findings.Hedoes do a decent job of discussing how diabetesinteracts with angina.

Notably missing is a discussion of caffeine and other common substancesthat can affect angina. ... Read more
