Book Description
This is a unique compendium of the best available U.S. government and military information on anthrax, compiled from ten documents.Topics covered include: overview; history and significance; description of agent; clinical features; signs and symptoms; diagnosis; treatment; prophylaxis; decontamination and isolation; outbreak control; and laboratory identification.

Anthrax is a highly lethal infection caused by infection with the Gram-positive bacterium, Bacillus anthracis. In naturally-acquired cases, organisms usually gain entrance through skin wounds (causing a localized infection), but may be inhaled or ingested. Intentional release by belligerents or terrorist groups would presumably involve the aerosol route, as the spore form of the bacillus is quite stable and possess characteristics ideal for the generation of aerosols.

There is extensive coverage of the DOD program to vaccinate American soldiers against anthrax. ... Read more

Book Description
Dotty Heady, Ed.D., is a food safety consultant, nationally known for her ‘teaching’ audits. She serves as both administrator and faculty member at Sullivan University and specializes in food safety sanitation training and contamination prevention. Her current eDoc addresses postal terrorism and suggests ways to guard against biochemical infections. Because of the anthrax-contaminated mailings to government officials, post September 11, and the death of a number of private citizens, biochemical contaminants in mail are becoming a concern. Discover how you can protect your home and work environment with procedures that are as simple as washing your hands before handling food and as critical as not exposing a flame to gas vapors when refueling a vehicle. This nine-step action plan could save your life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware
From my experience with other Sullivan University eDocs, they are nothing more than a glossy brochure meant to bring in a few bucks and get the author published. You can probably find all of the info in the eDoc (for which you pay $3.50) doing a web search (free). I remain disappointed that a university would be involved in publishing and charging for "articles" with such little intellectual value. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars American Tragedy
Its all there, all the proof that the vaccine is nothing short of a disaster. Government denials, which are shallow arguments , outright made up "facts, and misleading statements. The usual system of, attack the victim's credibilty, smear campaigns are shown here. This is no way to treat the patriots who defend the country. The whole thing has the same government disinformation scheme as with the Agent Orange debacle. A must read for anyone who has had the anthrax vaccine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Integrity: The shot our military truly needs
Thomas S. Heemstra (LTC,INANG,retired), did what he was trained to do...used his integrity to take care of those under his command. His intensive research on the military's Anthrax Vaccine Immuniztion Program (AVIP) results in termination of his military career, not in his concern for the truth.

One would ask, how can this happen to an Air Force Academy "ring-knocker"? The answer is as complicated, yet as simple as the information on the anthrax vaccine. Follow the paper trail to find out WHY there was high-level support for AVIP. Pay close attention to the civilian medical research. Imagine a family member affected by the anthrax vaccine. One should reach an identical conclusion to mine. The AVIP is BAD medicine. Today's high tech military needs a shot of the same old fashioned integrity Heemstra displays. An informative book for the truly concerned. ... Read more

Description:
Whereas Pasteur patented the biotechnological processes that he invented between 1857 and 1873 in the agro-food domain, he did not file any patents on the artificial vaccine preparation processes that he subsequently developed. This absence of patents can probably be explained by the 1844 patent law in France that established the non-patentable status of pharmaceutical preparations and remedies, including those for use in veterinary medicine. Despite the absence of patents, the commercial exploitation of the anthrax vaccine in the 1880s and 1890s led to a technical and commercial monopoly by Pasteur's laboratory as well as the founding of a commercial company to diffuse the vaccine abroad. Pasteur repeatedly refused to transfer his know-how and anthrax vaccine production methods to foreign laboratories, on the grounds that he wished to control the quality of the vaccines produced. Indeed, it was relatively difficult to transfer a method that was not yet perfectly stabilized in the early 1880s. Pasteur also wanted to maintain the monopoly of his commercial company and to increase the profits from vaccine sales so that the Institut Pasteur could be financially independent. The 'Pasteur anthrax vaccine' operating licences are described and analysed in detail in this article. ... Read more
