5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for yoga teachers and students
This book is the clearest explanation of arthritis I have ever read. For a yoga teacher, it offers wonderfully clear ways to adapt poses for students with physical limitations (arthritic or otherwise.)

The explanation of scoliosis was the most helpful I have read, and the 4 exercises I started doing every day have been transformative.

This book is probably most helpful to yoga teachers and experienced students - especially those who understand Anusara or Iyengar principles of alignment.

2-0 out of 5 stars STILL LOOKING FOR THE GUIDANCE
Very disappointing and uninpiring dvd with really nothing new to use and listen to. Of course, people with arthritis have to be careful, but then again yoga is subtle in its approach and thus books and DVDs for gentle yoga are perfectly suitable. I would recommend Rodney Yee's beginner yoga any day.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The" yoga book for arthritis
This is the best yoga book on arthritis and modifications in general. Well thought out and organized. It shows pictures of the poses at different stages of modifications with full explanations of purpose, alignment, and contraindications. I already gave my copy to a sister who needs relief from her pain and plan to replace it. Ellen saltonstall and Loren Fishman have the experience needed and articulate beautifully!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rocks your yoga world!! But poorly-named!!
I have bought countless "huge" yoga books that have yielded very little of those special little nuggets that rock my yoga world. This book is so full of amazing little variations on traditional poses and some new poses altogether.

Even if you/your students don't have any health issues, the poses and instructions given in this book bring new life to old, worn-out boring poses (variation breads awareness!).

Not only is this book chock full of useful instructions, health info and safety tips, but the info is presented in the most straightforward, succinct way that you don't have to weed through a whole lot of text that may or may not pertain. No space is wasted.

No, I swear I'm not related to the author! I'm just grateful for a well-thought out, succinct, and incredibly useful book for yoga therapists.

My only negative is the title... this book is so NOT just for arthritis!! It is for all different health issues,... and for no health issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars READ THE BOOK, THEN BUY A "TENS."
Great book! But if his advice fails to help you, buy a "TENS" unit.
Definition: "TENS" is the acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. A "TENS unit" is a pocket size, portable, battery-operated device that sends electrical impulses to certain parts of the body to block pain signals.

The electrical currents produced are mild, but can prevent pain messages from being transmitted to the brain and may raise the level of endorphins (natural pain killers produced by the brain).
The best "Tens" units " are made in England...The top 3 brands are: "Pain Solv" Pain Doctor" and "Pain Gone," which is a pen-like unit that does not use batteries and needs at least 40 shocks to the knee to get results. I own the "Pain Doctor" unit made by: "Win Health Ltd" and in only 5 minutes of use on my 2 arthritic knees the pain was gone for the whole day...Do a "Google" search for these products...if all else fails to work in the Doctor's informative book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Unclear book
Not my favorite arthritis book.Too scattered in its approach.I was left confused and a little overwhelmed...but to be fair there is also a lot of very good information to be found within the pages...

5-0 out of 5 stars Natural therapies to end arthritis pain
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has arthritis and who wants to end the pain using a lifestyle approach. The good doctor has given a multifaceted and holistic program that teaches readers how to change lifestyle habits to decrease pain and become more active. The chapter on the PAIN-FREE ARTHRITIS DIET was extremely beneficial to me, as I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was not aware of the food/inflammation/arthritis connection, so this report is cutting edge compared to other books in print.

If you want to stop pain without relying on medications that can cause harmful side effects, then read this book. I guarantee it will change your life and pain--as it has mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for fibromyalgia/osteoarthritis/rheumatoid
If you wish you could ask your doctor questions about getting relief from arthritis pain and stiffness, you could find the answers in this book. Drs. McIlwain and Bruce offer incredibly reasonable and easy to understand suggestions for alleviating arthritis pain that is based on the latest medical journal studies. Pain-Free Arthritis gave me new insight into exercise as a method for ending pain--and it works! I've also found relief using the PAIN-FREE diet, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants and phytochemicals.

This book can help you to understand the various types of arthritis but, more importantly, it motivates you to take action to overcome the pain, stiffness and immmobility and reclaim your active life.

Particularly appealing to me was the information on natural therapies and botanicals, yoga positions for alleviating pain, and the advances in medications to end pain safely and effectively.

This book is extremely reader-friendly--and the program is first in the book, so you turn the page and find relief! It does not overwhelm you with medical verbage yet is well-researched. The program is sound and I highly recommend to arthritis sufferers of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WITH ARTHRITIS
I have osteoarthritis and I have been searching for something that can tell me WHAT REALLY WORKS to end this pain. I mean, I'm only forty years old but years of playing basketball has worn out my knees. This book is a superb program that details specifically what works for diff. types of arthritis such as knee or hip. The section on natural therapies was especially helpful and the chapter on cutting edge medications was great. I learned a lot--that I did not know and that my doctor never told me!! Oh--the part on stress and pain was enlightening. I've been doing the exercises daily and also the moist heat applications as described in the first part of the book. I have FOUND RELIEF FROM knee osteoarthritis--finally.BUY THIS BOOK AND LIVE YOUR LIFE AGAIN ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
I came across this book after I started to have a suspicion about nightshade intolerance. My doctor had suggested I try to stay way from nightshade for a month to see if it had any positive effect on joint pain (that started about 18 months ago). I can say now that in my case, there is a very strong correlation between what I eat and pain in joints. If I eat tomatoes, potatoes or eggplant I will start to get pain in my wrists within 1-2 hours. If I completely abstain from eating any more nightshade the pain will gradually disappear within 24-36 hours. The amounts of food that trigger pain might be as little as less than a potato/tomato. When I eat more I also get pain in elbows, shoulders, hips, ankles and big toe primarily. The pain is symmetrical left/rt side. Today I also noticed that coffee (which I have stayed away from for a while now) also seems to trigger the same symptoms. (coffee plant is also nightshade). The other symptom I also get from nightshades is weakness in the muscles in hands and forearms. I read that the alkaloid that's in nightshades (solanine/tomatin etc.) can interfere with neurological communication with muscles by blocking the receptors. After having reduced nightshade to very infrequent and minimal consumption, I am free from these symptoms again.

I'm a 36 year old man who has been vegetarian for 10 years (also staying away from milk and wheat for the most part which cause other symptoms (mucus)).

The book recommends elimination diet which is worth trying. But for me it was sufficient to just avoid night shades without having to go through the rigors of eliminating most foods. The book recommends the Alcat test, I personally decided not to because there is no more accurate indication that what you observe yourself in terms of symptoms! The blood test is only 60% accurate (that is, doing the test twice will only give you approximately similar results, so what is the use if it is not repeatable? Also, doing some research about the test, those who recommend the Alcat test can get kickbacks for referrals (which could be the case for the author, but is not disclosed as far as I can see). I found a better deal on the Alcat test on a different website than the Author's so look around.)

Everyone is different and cause of arthritis symptoms may vary widely. By doctor tested me negative for RA so I have some general type of arthritis.

I can imagine most people will not even try the elimination diet as many people cannot even bear the idea of changing their diet... which is too bad.It may also take longer to notice any change by eliminating offending foods if one has had symptoms for a long time I read from another source. My reasoning is that if I can change my diet then it is worth it no doubt if I can avoid damage being done to my joints...

Thanks for writing this book, I hope many will benefit from it so that they can reduce or eliminate their pain and symptoms if foods are the cause (other causes could be pesticides, mercury fillings, artificial sweeteners...so it doesn't just need to be foods).

PS Another reviewer commented that the author mostly talked about RA. But I don't think this matters, because the foods you eat can cause arthritis even though it is not RA. This book could probably be applicable to people with fibromyalgia, etc. as well since we're talking auto-immune diseases).

5-0 out of 5 stars Pain free and no meds in 6 days!
I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and was diagnosed a year ago. I finally decided to look for alternative medacine when my doctor wanted to increase the dosage of my medacine and add another medacine even though I was feeling perfectly fine. I was taking methotrexate, predisone, and hydroxychloroquine. I read about this book and the mcdougal diet and checked it out from my local library. After starting a low fat veagan diet (mcdougal diet) and eliminating problem foods (conquering arthritis)I was pain free in six days!! I have now been on the diet for 27 days and am 98% pain free There are stil problem foods that i need to identify but i have not done the fast recommended in the bookyet. I definitely recommend this book and look for it in your local library so you can try it without buying it. Also recommend the mcdougall diet lost 11 lbs in the 27 days so far went from 126 to 114 lbs!

2-0 out of 5 stars The author has lumped all arthritic diseases into one big disorder
The author's personal story of overcoming "Reactive Arthritis" is truly endearing (you first learn of her diagnosis on page XXIV); however, she NEVER tells us what kind of arthritis she attempts to address in her book. Instead the author has appearently lumped all arthritic diseases into one big disorder to be treated in similar fashion. Reactive Arthritis is not the same as Rheumatoid Arthritis, and neither of those are the same as Osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic illnesses (auto immune disease) that affects not only the joints but the tissues and organs of the body. Osteoarthritis is a disease limited to the joints and NOT the tissues or organs of the body. Lastly, Reactive Arthritis, which the author states she has, is a joint disorder that has the following symptoms: (1) inflamed joints, (2) inflammation of the eyes, and (3) inflammation of the genital, urinary, or gastrointestinal systems. It is called "reactive arthritis" because it is believed to involve an immune response "reacting" to the presence of bacterial infections in the genital, urinary, or gastrointestinal systems. ([...]). These are three very different arthritic diseases having very different symptoms and pathology. Yet, the author seems to imply that her success with treating her own Reactive Arthritis through trial and error will work the same for someone suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis or Osteoarthritis. I don't mean to sound rude, as I admire her tenacity and success in overcoming her own disease, but she is not a doctor and the successful treatments and principles described in her book are limited to her personal experiences with Reactive Arthritis. I only wish she would have been more straight forward in disclosing this fact in the title or on the cover somewhere.I felt mislead.

She does provide some good information about healthy living, removing "toxins" from your food, and lists some websites and other resources for allergy testing and where to purchase certain products. To that end, her principles and advice are probably good to follow in general, regardless of your disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to any alternitive health library!
A good book on the subject, with lots of discussion on why Arthritis happens and how the medical profession is holding back the real cure.

One other very simple and good book WITH the cures IN the book is Arthritis: The Cure, and if you just want the cure, read it!You'll be typing, walking, running, etc before you know it!

Arthritis: The Cure: The Last Book You'Ll Ever Need On Arthritis

Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars We finally Feel Empowered!
The only "cure" for my partner's RA, the doctors told us, are drugs with very serious side effects. And those drugs would only hold off the inevitable debilitating deformities. We decided that we had to take this into our own hands. I read many books on the subject that were helpful, but when I read Barbara Allen's book, I knew I had found the miracle that we were looking for. We both changed our diets and my partner got relief immediately. We are now awaiting the results from the Alcat blood test so we can further "tone" our diets and avoid inflamatory foods. If you too are feeling discouraged with what your doctor is telling you about RA, read this book. You will be glad you did!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great information, cheap materials
Prior to purchasing this book, I "borrowed" from the library. The information is awesome but would not buy from this supplier again. The book I ordered is not the same quality as the library item. The cover and interior pages are very cheap paper and is hard to highlight material as the highlighter "weeps" through to the following pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars An offer of hope.
I don't know what some of the people are talking about when they say the book does not go into gout and other forms of arthritis. Did they actually READ it?? I didn't understand the workings of any of the forms of arthritis before I read this. Now I do. It's throughout the WHOLE book. Pay attention!
It tells you exactly how it's caused and what to do about it. If you want a medical journal on the disease, then go to a medical library. The person that blasted the book because her copy had a chapter missing.... HELLO?? How is that the author's fault for a damaged or incomplete copy? This is a review, NOT seller feedback!

For the first time I have felt hope for a lot of things. It pulled so many things together for me. This is a book about helping your body detox and heal. I have not started yet, but am looking forward to trying the program. This is a book about common sense and getting back to how God intended the body to function. It's very clear on all forms of arthritis. It doesn't just coddle one form. It's a good basic book on eating properly and naturally and letting your body heal the way it was meant to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good useful information, wanders a bit though.
The author has this chatty style of writing,a bit disorganzied, if you ask me, but the information is very useful, and I read and re read many parts of the book.I have had frequent flarups of my psoratic arthritis lately, and the advise in the book has lead me to treatments that have helped me onto the road to recovery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gout is a form of Arthritis too!!
This book is amazing. I followed the plan and my Gout, the constant pain in my legs and tendonitus all went away within a month. I highly recommend this book no matter what form of Arthritus you have. JUST DO IT! It will not only change your life but give you your life back.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Eat Away Arthritis
I think this is a great book as it has a lot of good information regardingfood intolerances that results in Arthritis and Pain, which I suspected certain foods as a contributing factor and then found this book which confirmed it for me. I liked it so much, I bought three copies to give to my ailing Arthritic Brothers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Arthritis Breakthrough
I advise anyone with arthritis to read this book. You will never hear about this vital information from established medical practitioners. The pharmaceutical industry has persuasive power over medical research that may work to vastly prolong medical breakthroughs from reaching millions of arthritis sufferers. I found this book fascinating.

4-0 out of 5 stars The New Arthritis Breakthrough
The book was a great deal, since the list price was $22.95 and it was a hardback edition. It did have some type of a light, coffee stain throughout most of the book, but it was in the right margin so it didn't affect the readability. For the cost of shipping however, I feel that it should've been shipped priority mail, not book rate.
Very informative book written about the history of antibiotic treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and other related conditions, which I am using to decide whether or not to utitilize this therapy, for which my doctor has provided a prescription, and the Arthritis Foundation now lists in their pamphlet on medications for arthritis.

4-0 out of 5 stars earning an alternate treatment for RA
I found this book to be enlighting.I took it to my next visit with my Dr. and was pleased to find out that not only was he aware of this treatment but accecpted it.He did tell me that Mira is not without side effects stated in the book.Like anything else, you must be your own advocate and learn and question the treatment. My RA is mild and the treatment does not involve some of the meds mentioned in the book that are bad for you and if needed we will use more of the anti-biotic treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Arthritis Breakthrough
This is an excellent book and very specific and informative. It gives one hope that they just don't have to live with the pain and problems of rheumatoid arthritis. It also gives one information to take to doctors, many of whom seem to be clueless about how to treat this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saved my life!!!!
I recently purchased this book on a recommendation from a doctor. I have severe fibromyalsia and he wanted me to read the book before I went through with the antibiotic IV treatments he offers. After reading this book, I was so excited. The book explains exactly why people with RA and fibro feel the way they do. I even cried when I read some of the stories from people because now I know they don't have to suffer the way they do. I decided to go through with the antibiotic IV treatments and 4 months later I am a completely new person. I have energy again and I feel SO MUCH BETTER! I am still on pain medication, but I have been able to go longer between doses and some days I don't have to take as many. I feel like I have my life back. After 14 years of having to lay down 2 times a day and some days not even being able to take a flight of stairs, I am so grateful for the treatments. Anyone out there suffering from the diseases listed in this book, please, please, please read this and go through with the treatments. You have nothing to loose and EVERYTHING to gain. Good luck and feel better! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Important information
Although the website that goes with this book is far below par - the information offered in this book is excellent.Especially the supplements - who know that not all supplements have rigorous testing standards and that so very few supplements even have what they say they do.Great book, great advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars the arthritis cure
When I developed arthritis I went to the library to research it That's where I discovered the Arthritis cure Realizing that it was written by an orthopedic surgeon convinced me to buy a copy and follow his recommendation, and it worked This is my second or third copy as I have given them to friends troubled with arthritis.

4-0 out of 5 stars hope for the hopeless
This well written and authorative book has given me hope in my battle with arthritis.I'm following the recomendations and using the products mentioned in the book and am seeing positive results.Although my hips are probably to far gone to benefit from the program (per discussion in the book), I'm hopeful that I'll be able to protect the rest of my body from arthritis.

The section on the effects of prescription drugs alone makes this book worth reading. How many of you are aware that it is believed that Celebrex, an effective pain reliever, contributes to joint deterioration?
And, did you know that 16,000 people in this country alone die yearly from using NSAIDS?

The author reviews many commonly used drugs for arthritis relief and tells what works and what may be dangerous to you.

Stan Adamson 52 - osteoarthritis patient and double hip replacement candidate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably appropriate for every osteoarthritis sufferer
In the past ten months, I've burned through over $100k in insurance benefits, pursuing what conventional medicine offers for osteoarthritis. In that time, the disease has rapidly and progressively degenerated joints in my neck, shoulders and hips to a point that I am almost completely bed-ridden. Conventional medicine has not only done nothing whatsoever to aleviate the disease or the pain, it has addicted me to morphine and Duragesic (80 times more potent than street-level heroin). I turned to this book out of desparation.

The book states clearly and early on, that conventional medicine doesn't know what to do for osteoarthritis OTHER THAN to mask the pain with narcotics. The position of conventional medicine - i.e. most A.M.A. practitioners - is that osteoarthritis is a normal part of aging and once it occurs, there is nothing that can be done for it. This book contends that is absolutely wrong.

The book puts forward a very compelling argument that by following a nine point systematic approach, the heart of which is a regimen of daily glucosamine and chondroitin together with ASU, osteoarthritis can not only be stopped in its progression, but the symptoms actually reversed. The book is wonderfully and powerfully written and I think maybe, the best hope and option for osteoarthritis sufferers.

How am I doing since going onto the 9-part program espoused by the book? Well, I've only been on the glucosamine and chondroitin for about three weeks. I haven't been able, as yet, to locate a source for ASU, and I haven't yet implemented any of the the other 8 parts of the cure - though I will be doing so within the next few days.

Have my osteoarthritic sypmtom abated since I started the program espoused by this book? Sad to say, no. However, I am truly convinced that as I factor in the other 8 parts of the cure and give it another month, my pain will decrease, I will regain range of motion, and I will regain function again.

I believe this is an excellent book and very much worth a read by every sufferer of osteoarthritis.

4-0 out of 5 stars title is misleading, but advice is great
The title is unwisely chosen, close to a cheap shot, designed to get the attention of people in pain. This is unfair, and diminishes the total effect of the book, which is well researched and documented for a book for a lay audience. It is very helpful to have all the information on glucosamine and condroitin together, with an exact plan. Very useful is the attention paid to the lack of quality control in choosing nutritional supplements. Dr. Theo provides excellent advice on how to choose wisely, and how to avoid poor or deceptive formulations. ... Read more

Product Description

Product Description
The title of this book makes a bold statement. It promises a cure. Is this really possible? Yes, there is a cure to arthritis. You can eliminate arthritis and fibromyalgia pain permanently. The book reveals the true cause of arthritis and fibromyalgia. Up till now these conditions have been considered incurable. The reason for this is that doctors have not recognised the cause, and without knowing the cause it is virtually impossible to develop a cure. Recent medical research, however, has established a clear cause and effect connection. The underlying cause for all the major forms of arthritis and for fibromyalgia is now known. Drugs aren't the answer. However, there are natural health-promoting therapies that do work and can stop the progression of the disease and encourage regeneration and recovery. In this book you will read about new ground-breaking medical research, fascinating case studies, and inspiring personal success stories. You will learn about a totally unique approach to overcoming arthritis and fibromyalgia called the Anti-Arthritis Battle Plan. 5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely highly recommended
This book asserts that there is such a thing as a drug-free cure for arthritis and fibromyalgia. This is not just pain reduction, but elimination.

According to the author (and new medical research), the cause of arthritis is due to infection, either viral or bacterial. The first place to look for a cause, especially if you have had a root canal. It is very hard to clean all of the bacteria out of a diseased tooth, so if the root canal was done improperly, it is very possible that some of that bad bacteria will enter your bloodstream through a cut or scrape in your mouth. The bacteria will travel to someplace "safe," where there is little blood nearby, like a bone joint. That is why the usual drugs have little, or no, effect, as the bacteria eats away at your cartilage.

So what is the answer? Coconut oil. Teeth are very porous, full of tiny tubules, where the bacteria can hide. Brushing and flossing won't clean out those tubules, but coconut oil will. The book goes into detail about why coconut oil is so healthy. Take a teaspoon or two, and swish it around your mouth for several minutes. Don't gargle, and don't swallow (spit it out when you are done). You don't want to draw all those toxins out of your mouth, and deposit them in your stomach. Coconut oil can be also used in cooking, and taken internally as a dietary supplement. Do it everyday, and, after a couple of weeks, even the most extreme cases will show improvement.

Is that the whole story? No. After cleaning out your system, change your diet by a lot. Everybody says that, but consider this: After going to all that trouble, and eating all that coconut oil, to clean the arthritis infection out of your body, do you really want to let it back in with an unhealthy diet? Think about taking a combination of glucosamine and chondroitin to rebuild those damaged joints. Exercise will help limber up your joints, so get moving. If the pain has limited your mobility, start with something you can do (even simply standing and bouncing on one of those mini-trampolines). If you are overweight, lose some of it. Every pound lost decreases the stress on your joints.

You're thinking: Not Another Miracle Cure, right? If the best the medical profession can do is to hand you a bottle of painkillers and tell you to live with the pain, or schedule you for a joint replacement operation, what have you got to lose? This method is easy and drug-free. This book is full of success stories, and is extremely highly recommended.

Another brilliant book by Dr. Fife.He has researched all the possible causes for Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue and come up with some real treatments. If you suffer from any of these ailments, read this book.I have been "Oil Pulling" ever since I read his chapter on it.I'm a lot less achy in just a month.I also bought a mini trampoline on his advice.I own most of his books and am a big fan.

"A diagnosis of arthritis is not a life sentence."Dr. B. Fife

Treatment for Arthritis and Fibromyalgia currently consists of managing the symptoms, as the causes have yet to be fully understood. In this enlightening guide the author, Dr. Bruce Fife projects his theory, that both conditions are related to an underlying infection. His research has led him through a maze of possible viruses, fungi and bacteria, and he expresses his belief that the culprit lies within infected teeth and gums.Did you know that a tooth and socket comprise a joint? From the teeth, bacteria easily enter the blood stream, causing secondary infections in the joints.
One's mind might leap to the conclusion, if it's an infection then give me antibiotics.Just like life, it's not that simple. If the secondary joint infection is caused by virus or fungi; antibiotics are useless.
Well- researched facts are presented to us in the beginning of the book, leading up to
Dr. Fife's `Arthritis Battle Plan.'He warns us that some drugs i.e. non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs may reduce inflammation but may have the high price of accelerated bone destruction.
Dr. Fife spends some time explaining the potential benefits of bee venom but fascinates the reader by presenting the extraordinary healing power of coconut oil.It seems the oil is comparable to natures own, mother's milk. Both have properties, when broken down by the body, become antimicrobial.Unlike synthetic antibiotics, this more natural agent is not harmful to our body's `good bacteria.'In effect, coconut oil reduces systemic infection, thereby reducing infection in the joints.
The importance of proper diet is not ignored, and he stresses his opinion of the impact on health by refined sugar and grains. The Magic of Motion chapter addresses the need for weight bearing, yet low, impact exercise.Teaching us that although rest is important, inactivity will, in effect, `rust' our joints.Lightening the amount of weight we put upon our joints is essential.
The book is completed with a summary of his Seven Steps to Beating Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. This is a drug free lifestyle, which he claims will not only eliminate pain but rebuild joint function, restoring mobility.Be adventurous and attempt his Seven-Day Whole Foods Challenge. The book leaves little doubt to its validity including index, numerous references, diagrams and endorsement from several satisfied followers.Dr. Fife has shared his knowledge in many other books promoting healthier choices, if nothing else a sense of hope.
Finishing my own further investigation, I intend to put coconut oil on my grocery list, adding it to my own attempt at relief, by living a healthier lifestyle.Watch out pharmaceutical companies, perhaps nature has provided the real cure.Highly Recommended!

Arthritis is not something that must be suffered through. "The New Arthritis Cure: Eliminate Arthritis and Fibromyalgia Pain Permanently" is a guide to fighting arthritis and drawing the solution into therapies that could very well cure and combat it without the use of drugs. Drawing on new research, Bruce Fife promotes a new way that could help thousands suffering from the ailment. "The New Arthritis Cure" is something to consider for arthritis sufferers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Arthritis Cure

More than 21% of the adult population suffers from arthritis. The New Arthritis Cure is far more than just a cure for arthritis book. Not only is it an amazing guide on how to eliminate arthritis and fibromyalgia pain permanently, but it is also an informative guide on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

An interesting read for anyone who is interested in promoting a healthy life, even if you don't have arthritis, but for those who are suffering from this crippling disease, you're in luck, there is finally a cure.

The first few chapters cover the many faces of arthritis and the truth behind arthritis and fibromyalgia. Anti-inflammatory medications and pain killers merely mask the symptoms while the disease progress and worsen. In chapter one, you'll learn the underlying cause of arthritis and as you read further into the book you'll discover the actual cure.

Several people suffering from the crippling disease has shared their inspiring experiences and how the techniques in this book have helped them overcome their battles. It was interesting to read how a relatively simple cure allowed them to overcome arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Dr. Bruce Fife thoroughly reveals the underlying cause and how to cure it, a unique book that offers a natural approach to prevention and cure. You will learn a number of lessons of why arthritis has been crippling people since the King Henry VIII era.

In The New Arthritis Cure you will read about a disease that once was claimed to be incurable, until now. The author takes you on a step by step guide on why 46 million Americans are suffering, what steps to take to stop the disease, and ways to regain your health.

An extraordinary phenomenon that will unleash a new beginning for those who suffer from arthritis or fibromyalgia. Learn how to be in better health with the anti-arthritis diet and a seven-day whole food challenge. The handy little easy to read guide is full of useful information and most of all it offers hope to a disease that once was known to be incurable.

I'd recommend The New Arthritis Cure to anyone who is interested in a healthier lifestyle and definitely to those who are suffering from arthritis and fibromyalgia.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag...
Some parts of this book were good and some not so good.

Part 3, 4 and 5 are good.Part Three talks about aerobic exercise and 4 and 5 give details on exercises you can do for specific body parts and in special situations. The instructions are clear and there are good diagrams.Unfortuately, they don't give any advice on how many repetitions to start with and how many to build up to and which exercise to move on to when a particular excercise becomes too easy.

My problem is with Part 1.It has you go through some quizzes to put yourself in a "level" which they claim will help you pick or develop a program of exercises that suits your needs. But after you figure out your level, they never mention it again. There are two sample programs, one for level 4 (in bed) and one for level 2 (moderately active) and that's it.No program suggestions for the other levels and the excercises themselves are not given a label.

A bit disappointing.

But the exercises I am doing for my particular problem areas are good.I think the exercise sections make the book worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Exercises
The exercises in this book are very basic stretching and flexibility exercises. They work well for me when I am having flare ups of my joints. Normally I exercise more aggressively. There are many varied exercises in this book, exercises cover every motion of every joint. Would recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for new exercisers
I purchased this book when I learned I have arthritis in my spine, but I found that the book doesn't recommend anything I'm not already doing in yoga class. I'm going to hand it on to my mother, however, especially for the hand exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the right moves
The best set of arthritis exercises I've found. They work to relieve my pain and improve my flexibility! Provides for individual adaptation, and they can be done in bed, on a chair, standing, or in the water.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book really helped.
When I suddenly experienced intense pain and swelling, leading to the discovery that I had developed RA, I felt totally blindsided. I knew nothing about this disease and needed info that I could understand right away. This book was a huge help to me and I still find reasons to go back to it again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book in new condition
Book came in just a few days and was in like new condition.Book was informative and easy to read for the layman.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too narrow-minded in its approach
This book provides excellent information about what rheumatoid arthritis is, how to distinguish it from osteoarthritis, etc.

However, I don't want to live with RA, I want to recover from it. As such, this book offers no help in this regard. It tells me about drugs that I can take and splints that I can wear to help me from becoming completely disabled, but offers me no hope of recovery.

In contrast, the book "Conquering Arthritis" by Barbara Allan, is the well-researched account of someone who took charge of their health and fought to recover from the disease, to get their life back. And succeeded! I'm well on the road to recovery myself by applying the principles in her book. Now that's a book well worth spending your money on!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Introduction to this disease
I was diagnosed with RA in December and picked this book up soon after. It gives lots of information about the course of the disease, medications, exercises and diet.I've loaned it to family members and reference it whenever I have a question about what my body is doing. The only drawback is that medications are developing at such a fast rate, that the book is already a bit outdated after only 3 years. However, it is still a great starting point.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a work of superb medical scholarship
Now in an updated and expanded second edition, Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis by Tammi L. Shlotzhauer (Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Practicing Rheumatologist at Rheumatology Associates of Rochester) and James L. McGuire (Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, Massachusetts) is a large print compendium of the latest information on Rheumatoid Arthritis concerning the diagnosis, treatment, and daily life (from special diets to possible alternative therapies and more) with this troublesome and painful disease. Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis informatively presents its facts in terms and text ideal for the non-specialist general reader, yet without glossing over specific issues, problems, medicines, or other challenges facing rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Simply put -- this is a work of superb medical scholarship and Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis should be on the shelves and available to the patrons of every community library system in this country. ... € An exercise program designed specifically to protect the joints and relieve stiffness and soreness
€ A scientifically based eating plan to reduce inflammation and pain
€ A hands-on guide to the latest medications
€ The real story on complementary therapies-which ones work? Which ones don't?
€ Proven strategies for overcoming arthritis-related depressionAmazon.com Review
Exercise, particularly strength training, can restore function and reduce the pain of arthritis, as Tufts research scientists have discovered. In Strong Women and Men Beat Arthritis, the team of researchers, headed by Miriam Nelson, Ph.D., presents a home exercise program based on a study of 46 people with severe osteoarthritis of the knee. In four months, the group--who exercised in their homes with easy-to-find equipment--reported 43 percent less pain, 44 percent improved function, and 71 percent increased muscle strength.

The 16-week exercise program starts with a daily half-hour of core exercises and adds intensity and additional exercises after the first month. The program combines strength, aerobic, and flexibility exercises, with the main focus on strength training. You'll need dumbbells, ankle weights, and an exercise step (or staircase). Even newcomers to exercise will find the illustrated instructions simple enough and the level low enough to start immediately.

The program includes a nutritional plan to reduce stiffness and inflammation, emphasizing water, fruits, vegetables, and the right fatty acid ratios. The authors also discuss medications (they work best in combination with exercise and nutrition) and sort through alternative treatments.

Nelson is the well-known author of Strong Women Eat Well, Strong Women Stay Young, Strong Women Stay Slim, and Strong Women, Strong Bones. This title is highly recommended for arthritis sufferers who want to improve their quality of life. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for those with arthritis
This is the 2nd copy of this book I've bought. The first was for myself and has been a great help with my rheumatoid arthritis over the years. Now that my daughter has been diagnosed with the same disease, I wanted her to have a copy for her own, not just my borrowed copy.Besides, I needed mine back!

The idea that we can take charge of our disease and make informed decisions, and especially, improve our condition through strength training is an empowering concept. The book discusses everything from diet to drugs to alternative treatments, with detailed instructions and diagrams on stretching and strength exercises that can be done at home and really make a difference.

I showed this book to my rheumatologist, and he was quite impressed.I'd recommend it for anyone with arthritis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strong Men and Women Beat Arthritis by Dr. Nelson
This is an excellent work on the alternative medicinal and
conventional medicine protocols for arthritis. Dr. Nelson
mentions various Vit C dietary combinations utilizing
orange juice, strawberries or grapefruit to provide Vit. C.
Next, the authors cite important anti-inflammatory combos;
such as, Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil. Sunflower oil
has the requisite Omega 6 ingredients. Sulfasalazine and
methotrexate are important protocols for treating seronegative
spondylarthropathies. In addition, the lungs, heart and eyes
may be impacted by ankylosing spondylitis and related diseases.
For instance, Iritis may impact the eyes. Calcification of
the heart valves and electronic problems with the heart have
been noted. Decreased lung capacity is another important
resultant of ankylosing spondylitis.

The authors point out that Chronic Juvenile Arthritis stunts
growth. In addition, the SED RATE (sedimentation rate) and
rhematoid factor are the gold standard for blood tests to
detect arthritis. In my own experience, the MOST- micro-oxidative
stress test may be helpful in articulating the yeast component
as an aggravating factor in arthritic conditions.

The authors provide an important series of exercises which
may be helpful for arthritic patients. The physical therapy
training consists of moderate squatting, toe stand
(standing erect on your toes), moderate push-ups by pressing
the wall, back extensions by facing the floor and raising the
head, modified sit-ups, knee extension flexing, full range
motion employing light weights in torque motion, face flat on
the floor raising the back legs, the lunge stretch,
cross-over hips, placing one knee on the chair and standing
upright or erect, shoulder stretches and a host of others.
Dr. Nelson indicates that excess joint fluid is a sign of
inflammation. In addition, surgical intervention can be
helpful. For instance, an artificial joint may last 15-20 years.
Acupuncture helps to stimulate endomorphins and change blood
flow patterns. There is evidence that acupuncture relieves
arthritis, although there is less evidence for Chiropractic.
This book is worth the price. It provides important alternative
medicinal protocols for arthritis as well as classic physical
therapy exercises aimed at preserving joint mobility and
elasticity. I would supplement the exercises with Alpha
Lipoic Acid to enhance bodily elasticity. In my own experience,
Northern Polar magnets may be helpful if strategically placed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really seems to help!
I was recently diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, and I started following the nutritional suggestions in this book. I think it's already starting to help! Plus it tells you how to perform strengthening exercises for your aching joints. I am a big fan of Dr. Nelson's other works. I like how she explains the science and the applications. I plan to share this with my mom, who also has osteoarthritis.

5-0 out of 5 stars No hype, just good, sound information.
I am the kind of person that is not going to buy or "buy into" a book unless it is supported by some reasonable evidence. If you're like me, then you'll love this book.It is based on a study recently conducted at the Tufts University. In short, the study used a program of exercise and nutrition to combat arthritis. The results? Pain was reduced by a whopping 43%!

Key to their program was strengthening exercises which have been shown in other studies as well as being extremely beneficial for arthritis patients.I am very pleased with books like these that offer sound treatments based on research. If you like these kind of books too and also suffer from back pain, I can recommend "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" (available here at amazon.ca too) that is based on randomized controlled trials and involves only one exercise you do at home that strengthens your multifidus muscles found to be abnormal in many people with back pain.So start reading, start exercising, and start getting better! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I have mixed feelings about this book.
I perused this book carefully because I want informationon diet and FMS.There are good definitions of FMS, but the info and recipes seem to begeared toward reducing the "inflamation" of arthritis. As Iunderstand it, FMS is not a condition of inflamation. Thus, my confusion. For forms of inflamatory arthritis conditions it looks excellent. I'd liketo note that I have seen other books that tag FMS on to Arthritis in theirtitles or covers and don't seem to have much specific to FMS. A sellingtechnique, I suppose. Product Description
Too often, people faced with a disease such as rheumatoid arthritis hear words like, "disabling,""progressive," or "tragic." "Tragic" may be what people are saying but the real tragedy is that these often repeated words do nothing but harm to those who hear them. They completely ignore a very real truth: physical issues can absolutely lead to positive transformation, action, challenge, inner strength, deep courage, and compassion. This unique book is written by someone who knows her subject well. Kat Elton, an occupational therapist and woman who's had rheumatoid arthritis since age two, knows that people with RA don't need false hope or to be told what to do. What they do need is to be led toward believing in themselves and improving their reality no matter what it is. Part practical guide, part workbook, part memoir, this book demonstrates that although there is no magic bullet or cure for rheumatoid arthritis, there is a way to live well with this disease. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
There are positive and negative aspects to living with rheumatoid arthritis. I've had the disease for over 36 years and there are times I'm still amazed. Learning to thrive along with the ups and downs is always challenging. There are books written on how to do it -- but everyone experiences their journey with rheumatoid arthritis their way. I've read books -- even written one myself. Occasionally there is a book that stands above the rest and really resonates -- a must read. "A Resilient Life" by Kat Elton, OTR, is that book. ~ Carol Eustice ([...] Guide to Arthritis - [...])

5-0 out of 5 stars There is a light at the end of the tunnel
Margie Garrison tells us her story on how she overcame the painful disease of arthritis.

The book gives those of us who have been dealing with this disease hope. You don't have to go over your doctor's head, just add some very insightful already proven methods.

I was diagnosed with osteo-arthritis over a year ago.I have been taking medication(s), going to a pain management center, taking a course on pain managemnt.

Margie Garrison's book gave me another outlet to find some relief. The book is re-enforcing many of the recommendations of my doctors etc.It offers us an exercise program, a nutrition progam but most of all hope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Helped Open The Door To Change My Arthritis And My Health!
This was a good book, I bought many and this and another one were my favs. I no longer have Arthritis because I learned about food and changed my diet. I learned about the hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle (see my other reviews) and now I am healthier and younger looking than before. Arthitis is not a death sentence, it's a wake up call! Change what's causing it (Not old age either) and that is as simple as changing what you have been eating all your life... Learn and read as many good books as you can. You will learn as I did, Doctors are not taught much about nutrition as it relates to sickness and disease. Let food be your medicine and Medicine be your food -Hippicates said this 2000 yrs ago! We have so much to learn about healthy eating in this country (USA) other poorier countries don't have the sickness's and diseases we have here. READ and research, and never stop learning...in time you WILL learn what took me years to learn. You can control your own health! And being sick (any sickness) is not normal or old age related. God made us right! We just have abused our wonderfully made bodies by throwing all kinds of junk in it and expcting it to run flawlessly year after year! Well it doesn't work that way... and if you don't change your diet you will soon learn and be at a doctors office taking pills and heading down that same slipperly slop so many americans are on. We don't need health CARE... We need to be taught correctly about health and what is healthy and life. This begins with a journey and desire to LEARN about health. This book was helpful along with others in helping me to open my eyes that something as simple as FOOD was causing my problems, not a gene, not a disease, not some odd virus, not cause mom or dad had it... it was our standard poor american fast food diet, even healthy food is not so healthy as you will learn, this book helped me years later to learned about the hallelujah Diet & lifestlye. This later helped me to reverse my Arthritis and help others to change their health and their lives. it is power to know that YOU can change YOUR health, when you get sick enough, you'll start looking for answers. I did... and I found them and now I am much healthier than I have ever been in my life!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terribly written book with no basis in scientific fact.
I have finished reading half of this book...so far.It is NOT well-written by any means. She does not give you a solid plan to follow, just a very rough idea of what she did, but without any back-up to why the things that helped her worked. She basically expects you to become a vegetarian, and even suggests eating tomatoes, potatoes, and other well-known trigger foods that cause arthritis sufferers a lot of pain!

Other than telling you to eat a bunch of fruits and vegetables, all she says about eating any other foods is exactly the following, "Dairy foods and meats are the culprits, stay away."It's not even a proper sentence! She doesn't even say anything more about this, such as WHY dairy foods are bad, WHICH meats are bad and why, and what does she have to back this up?She later states she has an ALLERGY to beef. From what I've read in other books on arthritis, food intolerances make-up a large part of the problem for arthritis sufferers. This is the case with my husband, who has NO allergies to any foods or anything else (we had him do the full allergy prick test along with allergy blood tests - they came up with nothing). But he absolutely has food intolerances, which are completely different than food allergies (what I have).

She also writes as if she is talking at you - she tells you, "Read about vitamins, try to find a doctor who treats with Orthomolecular method."Again, not a proper sentence. Also, instead of telling us what vitamins help with arthritis sufferers and what vitamins may harm them, she has us pay good money for HER book so that she can tell us to go read some other book.Ridiculous! And she doesn't mention ANYTHING about "Orthomolecular method" prior to or after the aforementioned sentence.

I don't think I will bother reading the rest of the book, as nothing in it thus far has been based on any form of scientific fact, has nothing / no research to back it up, and is really all hearsay.I may finish reading it on the slim chance it could have something useful in it that could help my husband. But that's also because I already bought it.I bought it used for about $3 and paid the $3.50 shipping, and I STILL feel like I've been ripped off!If you ARE going to try it, don't you DARE pay the $29.95 price tag I've seen.I also bought, "Conquering Arthritis - What Doctors Won't Tell You Because They Don't Know!" by Barbara Allen.Although her "reviews" for her book on Amazon need to be deleted since they are NOT reviews, but are in fact written by a bunch of people who know her personally telling you how great she is rather than by people who actually read AND used her book, after finishing Chapter 1 I am already impressed.Of course, I haven't gotten that far, but it is already obviously a well-written book filled with research, facts, and proof to back up the statements she gives.Nothing like this stupid book's lines like, "Eat at least two salads daily, two helpings of steamed vegetables, brown rice, or potatoes. (They are not fattening.) Lentils or Chinese vegetables, grains and fruits."My!!! What a feast.""And no, I did not change the punctuation. She actually puts random sentences inside parenthesis and says condescending phrases like, "My!!! What a feast."Lines like these are all over this book. And since when are potatoes, particularly regular brown, Russett potatoes, not fattening and good for you?!These are well-known to raise your blood sugar levels much the same as when you eat white bread!

Anyway, I could go on and on with quoting and bashing this book, but I think I'll instead just read the OTHER book I bought by Barbara Allen. For this book I paid the Amazon price of about $24, and it is SO MUCH BETTER than the $3 I threw out on this piece of garbage!

1-0 out of 5 stars It's ok, but...
Not at all what I expected.A very OLD book. The date of it should be more prominent when advertising it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding presentation and great ideas. It works!!
This is an outstanding book with practical ideas and suggestions for curing, or substantially easing, the pain and stiffness from arthritis. I have suffered from arthritis for 20 years, taking many pain medications which only controlled, not eliminated the pain. After 4 months of following the instructions and diet, I realized the pain was virtually gone! It was a slow easing that was nothing short of a miracle. My doctor was skeptical that it would work, but said why not try it. It does work. Give it a try. ... Read more

******************************

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR!

******************************

A research scientist and former arthritis sufferer outlines a proven treatment that could banish your arthritis pain forever. This well-documented study presents evidence that rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other chronic illnesses are caused by microbial infection. When the infection triggers allergic reactions, it appears that the body's immune system has turned on itself. Once the cause of the infection and allergies are identified and removed, arthritis symptoms will decrease and likely disappear as long as the body's collective systems remain in balance.

********************************

IN THIS BOOK YOU WILL DISCOVER:

-- Actions of microorganisms that cause RA-mycoplasmas, mycobacteria, molds, spirochetes (e.g., Lyme), viruses, bacteria and their L-forms;
-- Their role in other chronic illnesses with arthritis-like symptoms such as Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome;
-- Online authoritative medical information and support organizations;
-- The best Internet sites to research health, drugs, treatments, and disease;
-- What diagnostic tests are available and where to get them;

AND LEARN WAYS TO:
-- Recognize and suppress pathogenic microorganisms;
-- Destroy or eliminate the toxins they produce;
-- Control the allergies that trigger RA reactions;
-- Strengthen the immune system using natural, non-toxic methods;
-- Locate a health care professional to work with you.

*********************************

Conventional RA treatments include toxic drugs that reduce painful symptoms but do not treat the root cause, namely, bacterial infection. An immune system weakened by drugs (e.g., antidepressants or antihistamines), improper diet, stress, and multiple infections is unable to produce the quantity and quality of natural antibodies to stave off new attacks. This book describes the steps necessary to:

-- Identify, attack, and remove the cause(s) of the infection(s);
-- Neutralize pathogen-generated wastes (toxins and harmful enzymes);
-- Flush these wastes from the body; and
-- Restore the body's systems to normal, healthy function.

*******************************

Until recently, testing methods to identify these microorganisms precisely and to prescribe effective treatments have not been available. Traditional treatments with immunosuppressing drugs often breed stronger, more resistant bacterial organisms, which mutate and grow, overwhelming the immune system's resources. Undiagnosed food and chemical allergies can also amplify the severity of arthritis symptoms. In this book, both the lay reader and physician will find an effective course of treatment possibly leading to a cure for RA and other chronic illnesses with arthritis-like symptoms. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fails to mention the other infection connection
That infectious disease is the cause of rheumatoid arthritis and in fact many of the so-called autoimmune diseases has been postulated for over a century, but has never been accepted. If true, it means that the standard treatments for R.A. which are all based on suppression of the immune system must be rethought. The book describes treatments that are based on, or at least not inconsistent with an infectious cause for the disease. The book centers on the work of Dr. Brown on tetracycline therapy for R.A. and the theory that Mycoplasma infection causes R.A., but it also investigates other possible causes such as Lyme, Amoebic infections, HIV, viruses and parasites. Poehlmann has collected a large amount of evidence to support the infection theory, such as for instance the similarities between R.A. and Lyme disease.

Yet despite the large amount of information collected, there remains a serious and large hole in the book. Poehlmann completely fails to mention the other major infection connection, to wit, the theory of focal infections. This theory also states that degenerative diseases, such as R.A. are caused by hidden infections that cannot be cleared by the immune system. These infections are located not in the joints, but mostly in and around the teeth, and consist mostly of Streptococcus and related bacteria. While not universally accepted either, a similarly large body of evidence exists to support this theory, much of it based on the work of Dr. Price, see for instance The Root Canal Cover-up. This theory is not inconsistent with the demonstrated efficacy of minocycline therapy. While dental focal infections can be somewhat difficult to locate, even for a skilled dentist, they are not nearly as elusive as Dr. Brown's mycoplasmas or Dr. Wyburn Mason's amoebas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on the Topic
This was the first book I read on the topic of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I found it to be extremely well researched. The writing style is straight and to the point and covers all pertinent topics. The book answered so many of my questions. I could identify with the author's desire to take control of her own health. She tells exactly how to do so in this book.I have read 8 additional books on the topic and continue to use this book as a reference. This was the first book to give me a degree of hope. I highly recommend this book for RA sufferers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Missing Link
Six years ago I was told that I was suffering from the "sudden onset of acute, aggressive, raging rheumatoid arthritis, that I had an army marching in my body and if I did not go onto conventional treatment would end up in a wheelchair within a year"(to quote one of the leading rheumatologists in Cape Town)

I believe in the intelligence of the body. I do not believe in the existence of auto-immune disease. Katherine Poehlman confirms this for me. To my knowledge the body ends up attacking itself in its attempt to rid itself of invading bacteria, viruses and/or parasites. For me, The Infection Connection is, indeed, the missing link pulling together 6 years of research into trying to cure myself. It has definitely fast-forwarded my cure.

I have taken the wealth of knowledge from the book and, being a homoeopath myself, have made homoeopathic remedies of the invading organisms which I have been taking for the last two months. My swelling has gone down by 90% and I am successively becoming more mobile. I cannot thank Katherine Poehlman enough for the wonderful, generous, user friendly presentation of her knowledge.

I hope, in the future, to be to help many people suffering from so-called auto-immune diseases, many of them not having access to proper medical care anyway, (I live in a third world country) which will end up being their blessing as my refusal to go on conventional medication was mine. Once again, thank you, Katherine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected
This is a very interesting book with lots of information concerning RA disease. Has given me information to take to my doctor and ask about. Reaffirmed my belief of bacteria and virus types being the root cause of this disease and possibly other autoimmune diseases. Has given me some ideas of things I can do myself while waiting for test results and doctor to get on board with the lastest treatment options. Pretty easy read. Recommend to anyone who wants more understanding of RA and possible test and treatment options that may be different than conventional treatment options.

5-0 out of 5 stars must read for anyone w/ R.A.
Highly recommended for anyone that is dealing w/ R.A. Please don't buy into the "incurable" word until YOU HAVE DONE ALL YOUR RESEARCH! Listen people, its your life and your health so do all you can to EDUCATE YOURSELF on your health issues so you can make an informed decision for yourself and the people that matter the most to you in life! 3-0 out of 5 stars Go Natural
I'm not through all of the book yet, but what I've read thus far has me convinced to alter my diet, increase my intake of natural supplements and try to eliminate prescription medication from my arthritis treatment regimen. There are recipes, exercises, anecdotal evidence and common sense approaches throughout. I reccomend this for anyone looking for alternatives to medication that only addresses symptoms rather than treating the underlying causes of arthritis and related diseases.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get This Book and Give Up Your Pain
This book is packed with usable information. I originally picked it up at the public library but found it to be so useful that I purchased a copy for my office. I also recommend this book to my arthritic massage clients.

Presentation is clear
Explanation of terminology is equally clear and succint.

I can personally vouch for the efficacy of the supplements, dietary routines, exercises, and therapies that the author details. I was able to reverse most of debilitating rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in much the manner the author suggests.

MY TAKE:
Follow the anti-arthritis diet - it is the lynch-pin of virtually all chronic diseases.

Product Description
Arthritis Without Pain is a publication about a long-awaited breakthrough for arthritis pain --— a category of drugs called TNF blockers.

The miracle of TNF blockers is this: they work. Nearly two of every three patients who try these medications get lasting relief from joint pain and inflammation. Known as biologic DMARDs, these high-tech drugs inhibit the action of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a protein that contributes to joint damage associated with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.

Arthritis Without Pain examines the science behind the TNF blockers Enbrel®, Remicade® and Humira™, offers practical advice for their use, and explores the real-life experience of patients who take them. Written by noted Dallas rheumatologist Scott J. Zashin, M.D., in collaboration with healthcare writer Laurie Hesser, Arthritis Without Pain gives patients the knowledge to take charge of their arthritis, move past the pain, and get back to a more active life.

• Learn about TNF blockers and how they work

• Compare TNF blockers with methotrexate and other arthritis drugs

• Take a five-minute self-test to see if you are a candidate for anti-TNF therapy

• Understand the differences between Enbrel®, Remicade® and Humira™

• Know what to ask before therapy and what to expect during therapy

• Gain insight into how biologic drugs are manufactured and why they need special handling

• Learn how uninsured/underinsured patients may still have access to these medications

• Read about other patients’ experiences with these life-changing drugs

5-0 out of 5 stars Title could be "Miracle of TNF Absorbers"
"Arthritis Without Pain" is the best title for marketing the book.It gets the book into the hands of the people who can benefit the most. The book gives an authoritative history of what is known about TNF in layman terms. It provides a communications link between the doctors and the patients, which makes for better treatment.I have personally used "Arthritis Without Pain" with my primary family doctor, respiratory doctor, cardiovascular doctor, neurologist and dermatologist. It helps explains how high levels of TNF appear to be a common connection between, psoratic arthritis, central sleep apnea, and braycardia which requires a pacemaker. In my specific situation Enbrel seems to act as little sponges that absorb about 1/2 the TNF in my blood. That has reduced the pain and suffering in all areas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative
I found this book extremely helpful in explaining TNF blockers.Being newly diagnosed with RA, I was scared of all the side effects but this book is uplifting and gives hope that you CAN live a normal life. This book is easy to understand and will give you all the information you need to have an intelligent discussion with your doctor. It is important to understand everything about your diagnosis and this is the first step.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book is pure hype
I got this book hoping to get info beyond the pharmaceutical industry hype and found it to be a pure ad for big pharma. This particular book seems to be a compilation of pharma marketing points.
Right now we are hopeful the drugs will work, but the book gave us no info (that we had not already seen on humira websites) to help with the decision.Maybe the problem is insufficient experience with the product.Whatever reason, save your money, just google the drugs and get the same info in the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't believe the hype!!!
I was on Enbrel for several years, then Humira, then Remicade. They did not work. My doctor then asked me to try Rituxan which can be fatal. That did not work either. Oh, and it cost $9,000. yes, nine thousand dollars per treatment. What most doctors WON'T tell you (unless you ask) is that your body CAN heal itself! I have had Systemic Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis for more than 27 years (I'm now 40 years old) and I find it sad that you can use a search engine to look up RA, SLE, or pretty much ANY chronic illness and you will have difficulty finding natural remedies unless you specifically ask for them. They easily and readily tell you about prescription drugs though. Alternative medicine books, websites, and doctors tell you how to treat these diseases in a less destructive, more natural way.

My diseases were so serious and refractive that I received last rights in 2006. Due to chronic inflammation and the resulting deformities, I had artificial joints put into my hands at age 35 which is relatively unheard of. Losing all hope in "traditional medicine" I turned to natural alternatives. I now take only OTC drugs like aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil when I have a "bad day". I got off 13 Rx drugs a day. It wasn't easy; I moved from NYC where I was born and raised to rural Utah and I feel much better with less stress and low humidity. It took a while for me to feel better and yes, there are still bad days. Not nearly as bad as before though and I don't have a single daily prescription bottle in my medicine cabinet. PLEASE look for other options; they may be harder to find but they can also dramatically improve your wellness. I am writing this because I know it can be done and I am living proof that a serious case CAN be helped with natural choices.

If doctors would remember their oath to "first do no harm" they would look at the extensive, often devastating side effects and think twice before writing a script that they collect large revenues from. Although they did not work for me, I know these drugs can and do work for some people; I just hope anyone that is considering trying them would have tried each and every alternative/natural/holistic treatment first. Beware your sources there too, as I was referred to a "ND" recently by a friend and I found that 4 year certification is only required in certain states and this person had taken a correspondence mini-course from a reported "diploma mill" and was dispensing advice. This particular "ND" has no certification and the school is not accredited. Be you own detective and question everything. A good start would be a book on WELLNESS. They have a great one here on Amazon and not only did I buy it, it has made the rounds many times over to friends and acquaintances alike. Good Luck!
