5-0 out of 5 stars Budwig Flax Oil review
I think this book was great. Dr. Budwig was a PhD., so it is not easy reading for everyone. However, it gave great insight into principles on how to eat properly. I believe this book will add 10 years to my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr Budwig has a great solution
Dr Budwig's book makes perfect sense...she's a voice to be listened too...recommended reading for anyone who wants to stay healthy or cure a list of problems....

5-0 out of 5 stars Could I Really Be That Simple?
Dr. Johanna Budwig's book is a must read for anyone contemplating the realities of cause and effect and disease in the human body. This woman unlocked the secret to health and longevity over fifty years ago, and the medical community and the drug companies have kept the knowledge from us to secure their profits.

The book is translated from her native German and therefore, a bit challenging to read in context of language. But an excellent compilation of several of her speeches through the years.

Buy the book, read it, make the change and live.

3-0 out of 5 stars Who made up the title of this book???
I heard about the simple cancer remedy of cottage cheese and flaxseed oil of Budwig so when I got the chance to read what she herself wrote, I immediately got to read this book.

First thing that struck me was, why this title? Is it some marketing for flaxseed oil? I find it strange because getting to the principle of Budwig's recommendations in this book, it's simply the need for omega-3 fatty acids and sulfur containing amino acids.

The best source of omega-3 fatty acids are fish oils, including cod liver oil. Budwig acknowledged this also in this book, and the only reason she hesitates to recommend fish oils is because there are products which might be contaminated with pollutants. Flaxseed oil is simply one of the plant oils that have high omega-3 content (now being replaced by chia?), but like most plant oils, it also contains omega-9s, which still has to be balanced by omega-3s. This problem is absent with fish oils because they don't contain omega-9s.

And as far as fats go, Budwig even acknowledged the benefits of coconut oil in this book, though it seems she did not elaborate much on this and I assume it's because there aren't many coconuts in her area of the world. It was part of several of her recipe recommendations, though.

The protein source actually recommended in this book is quark, which is more like yogurt instead of cottage cheese. While Budwig did accept cottage cheese as a substitute, yogurt could be a better choice. Lactobacilli in products like yogurt and quark can be immunostimulants.

This book really shows what Budwig had on her mind, but we should not get bogged down about the title (flaxseed oil marketing?), or the common concept associated with Budwig (flaxseed oil and cottage cheese). The real essence, as this book clearly shows, is the need for omega-3s and the sulfur-containing amino acids. And definitely, flaxseed is only one of many choices, in spite of this book's title.

I would have given it a 4-star rating, but the title did not reflect the book's contents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing

Book Description
A comprehensive, user-friendly medical yoga program designed for management and prevention of arthritis, with over 400 illustrations.

Arthritis restricts movement; yoga increases range of motion: these two were made for each other. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in this country, limiting everyday activities for more than seven million Americans. Drugs, surgeries, and steroids can alleviate some of the discomforts, but study after study has shown that exercise is most beneficial to most forms of arthritis, specifically low-impact, flexibility-enhancing exercises—hence, yoga. In this comprehensive and thoroughly illustrated guide, Loren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall, who between them have seven decades of clinical experience, help readers understand arthritis and give a spectrum of exercises for beginners and experts. Broken down into chapters focusing on each major joint, there are 100 classical yoga poses and numerous imaginative and physiologically sound adapted poses, all with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow photo demonstrations. The authors welcome readers into the philosophy and principles of yoga and show how to use yoga to find lasting relief from arthritis. Over 400 illustrations. ... Read more

Book Description

Like age, arthritis has a way of creeping up on you until one morning, that occasional stiffness in the knee or soreness in the hands turns into "That hurts!" type of pain. Prolonged physical activity only prolongs the soreness.

Arthritis is a general medical term that refers to inflammation of the joints. The word "arthritis" is a blend of the Greek words "arthron" for joint and "itis" for inflammation. Frequent cracking of the joints and early morning stiffness are common symptoms of osteoarthritis, even during pain-free periods. Some will joke that they can tell a weather change is ahead when their knees act up, but that's because painful joints can be sensitive to a falling of barometric pressure, which signals rain in the forecast.

Arthritis often begins subtly with a little ache and stiffness in the knees or shoulders. Or it may herald its arrival with sharp pain and swollen, tender joints. Arthritis takes center stage, however, when you feel as stiff as a board when you pull yourself out of bed in the morning. Stiff spines, creaky necks, and balky backs can zap the life out of even the most optimistic individuals. Those with arthritic hands and wrists find it painful to type or even use a computer mouse, while some with arthritic knees shuffle around with pain as their constant companion. Arthritic hips not also restrict mobility but impact a couple's love life since arthritic hip pain can make sexual relations painful, particularly for women. No matter how you cope or make lifestyle adjustments, arthritis is a pain to live with.

In The Great Physician's Rx for Arthritis, Jordan Rubin, along with Joseph Brasco, MD,  recommends a total lifestyle program for the health of the body, mind, and spirit that's much more effective than sleeping on a bed of magnets each night, and it's based on the seven keys to unlock your God-given health potential found in his foundational book The Great Physician's Rx for Health and Wellness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a comprehensive discussion of RA we can understand.
This discussion on RA is the most comprehensive available in layman's terms. This disease process is so complicated and the research on treatment so varied, trying to keep up on journal articles or short publications is almost impossible. This book puts more useable information between the two covers than you will find anywhere. Unlike medical journals, the disease process explanations are concise and understandable.Although the explanations are detailed and scientific and may take more than one reading to get your brain around the complex concepts, it nicely falls somewhere in between the very oversimplified information found in "arthritis" books available at bookstores and over-complicated and hard-to-read medical book information. Truly helpful is the detail about how clinical trials are conducted and the complicated sequence of events that occur in treatment research. It makes the waiting for decades for new treatments a little easier to understand. Also helpful are the briefs on current research (now a bit out of date-some of the "in trials" treatments in the book have been approved and are available) that is ongoing along with web sites so individuals can follow trials, results, research progress, etc. and even contains information on joining in some of the clinical trials. The description of the immune processes is very helpful. Not only does it help the reader understand the immune system as a whole, and the effect of this disease on the immune system, it also gives a good picture of how HIV and AIDS compares on the opposite end of the immunity spectrum (overactive vs. underactive immune system). Best of all, this book arms RA sufferers with good information to be able to take a more active role in their own treatment. Buy it for a friend who has RA or buy it for yourself. You will want to reread it several times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Gift for someone with rheumatoid arthritis!
If you have rheumatoid arthritis, or if a friend or loved one has been diagnosed with this disease I highly recommend this book as an invaluable source of information. Not only is it packed with facts on rheumatoid arthritis ranging from details of exactly what is happening in the joints and the immune system to useful Web sites to keep up on the latest details on new medications and treatment approaches, it is also clearly and beautifully written. It really is a handbook to help readers make informed decisions with their physcians.Included as well are fascinating insights into possible future treatments now in the research stage - from the use of stem cells to gene therapy.
This is the best gift you can give a friend who suffers from RA. ... Read more

As early as Arthritis for Dummies's first page--a yellow tear card entitled "Cheat Sheet"--you know you're getting useful information. The cheat sheet gives quickie tips on seven helpful topics: "Before Agreeing to Surgery," "10 Ways to Manage Arthritis," "10 Arthritis Myths to Watch out For," "10 Super Foods to Help Combat Arthritis," "10 Crackerjack New Treatments," "Talking to Your Doctor About Alternative Therapies," and "Identifying False Claims for Alternative Therapies." Arthritis for Dummies explores all of these topics, and many more, in detail.

The authors, husband-and-wife team Barry Fox, Ph.D. (The Arthritis Cure, The 20/30 Fat & Fiber Diet Plan) and Nadine Taylor, M.S., R.D., a registered dietician, explain the different forms of arthritis and arthritis-related conditions and how to work effectively with your doctor. Most of the rest of the book is an easy-to-read guidebook to dozens of treatments and pain-management strategies. Rather than discussing arthritis treatment from a purely Western medicine approach, the authors also detail Eastern healing systems, lifestyle strategies (including illustrations of exercises), and alternative therapies. Everything from Ayurveda to Zyloprim is in here. A drawback is that the authors do not always differentiate between remedies that are backed by scientific evidence and those that have only anecdotal support. --Joan PriceBook Description

1-0 out of 5 stars I resent this
This book is an insult. I am a dummy by no one's estimation. However, I have two different forms of arthritis. I developed them without ever reading a word on the topic, as I'm sure many arthritis sufferes have. That there would be a book offering instructions on getting arthritis for the feeble minded is an insult to all the noises I make getting out of low chairs!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Practical
I've had arthritis for a long time, so I was happy to find this well-rounded, informative and practical arthritis book. I learned more from this book than I have from all the others I've read - combined. It gives a good overview of all kinds of arthritis, the ways they diagnose it and treatments. It also talks about the drugs used for the disease, their pros and cons. There's also good information on supplements, exercise, body alignment, and more. I especially like the nice balance the authors struck between traditional and alternative medicine. There are a lot of new ideas in the book I hadn't heard of before - some of which worked well for my arthritis. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who has arthritis.

2-0 out of 5 stars The good, the bad and the equivocal...all rolled into one!
I found this book to be informative and entertaining but also somewhat disturbing. There seems to be a tendency to overemphasize so-called "alternative" therapy, and the information is presented in such a way as to cajole the unwary reader into thinking that mainstream and alternative treatments are equivalent. Curiously, neither of the authors is a physician, and the book hardly mentions the existence of the "rheumatologist",i.e.,the physician who specializes in diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases. I found this surprising at best, and also a bit offensive. It was clear that this is not a completely objective or balanced guide to arthritis and its management. ... Read more

Book Description
Great food for inflammation sufferers.

Cut your finger accidentally and the area will swell, redden, and heat up. This type of acute inflammatory response is the body's reaction to trauma, and it's an essential part of the healing process. But inflammation can be harmful when it hangs around too long and refuses to leave. When the inflammation switch refuses to turn off, the body operates as if it is always under attack (the older we get, the more likely this is to happen). White blood cells flood the system for weeks, months, and even years.

Researchers are now linking low-grade, persistent inflammation to premature aging, heart disease, M.S., diabetes, Alzheimer's, psoriasis, arthritis, and cancer.

While anti-inflammatory drugs do exist, they can injure the stomach or suppress the immune system. Fortunately, the situation can be remedied by a change in diet, specifically by altering the kinds of fats you eat. Omega-3 fatty acids tend to decrease inflammation while omega-6 fats and trans-fats increase inflammation. While many foods in the standard American diet (unrefined white flour, sugar, red meat, diary, fast food, and food additives) exacerbate inflammation, a healthy diet made up of fish, nuts, seeds, oils, lean grass-fed meats, and fruits and vegetables can help lessen or prevent inflammation.Likewise, certain spices such as turmeric, cloves, and ginger have proven anti-inflammatory activity.

Anti-Inflammatory Foods for Health will help those with inflammation incorporate anti-inflammatory foods into their everyday diet.Sample recipes may include French-Canadian Pea Soup, Sumac Salmon, Maple-Ginger Butternut Squash, Lime-Ginger Glazed Chicken with Fennel Relish, Green Salad with Grapes and Sunflower Seeds, Cod with Saffron Sauce, and more. ... it as a way to heal her back injuries due to an accident. She no

This is the requisite "book biz" follow-up to their earlier book, The Arthritis Cure: The Medical Miracle that Can Heal, Reverse, and May Even Cure Osteoarthritis (1997), which I'll also report on here, treating bothbooks as one.My initial reaction was, this is either a public service ora hustle.Written by three different laureled academics and obviously puttogether by committee, the earlier book was a big time best seller andoccasioned this sequel. Most of the diet advice was like something I hadread twenty years ago.The exercise program ditto. The use of glucosamineand chondroitin was the real difference. In fact, the purpose of the bookcould be seen as legitimizing the use of these supplements in the treatmentof osteoarthritis.People bought the book in the hope that it would helpthem with their pain. They also bought the book so that they would bemotivated to try glucosamine and chondroitin. Many people understandablywould not try the supplements without the seal of approval provided by anauthoritative book like this. The question is-and it is the bigquestion-is their program any good, or is it just another feel good peptalk fronting for another bogus approach? I was a little uncertain sincethe book jacket was red, white and blue, and we all know the quote aboutpatriotism being "the last refuge of a scoundrel."

So I triedglucosamine and chondroitin and stayed fairly close to their overallprogram. Two years have passed and although I cannot say for certain, itis my belief that the supplements are valuable. At any rate, my arthriticknee is much improved.

In the follow-up book, the authors giveinformation on other treatments.

I have to say that I think they've donea positive service in writing these two books. The information abouthealing in general and about prevention and about the positive effects ofexercise and attitude are worthwhile. The authors may have made megabucks(or maybe they didn't), but I don't feel they ripped anybody off, on thecontrary.I am happy to be positive even though I still think "cure" isprobably too strong a word for what their program can do, although I onlyhave my own experience to go on.Their reports of the double blind teststhat have been conducted are good, but a long way from convincing proofthat glucosamine and chrondoitin and exercises can cure osteoarthritis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you for another remarkable book!
I'm not sure which book I enjoyed more; The Arthritis Cure or it's follow-up, Maximizing the Arthritis Cure.Either way, Dr. Theodosakis has done it again with an inspirational and helpful book.As a nurse, I recommended his latest book to my father who suffers from osteoarthritis inhis knees. He has experienced exceptional relief from taking theglucosamine and chondroitin and following the other steps of the plan.Hehas been able to almost stop taking ibuprofen other than when he has a badflare up. Now he is able to garden more comfortably and with betterbiomechanics and he is walking the dog on a regular basis again---the dogis grateful to the good doctor as well!I'm glad that more people in themedical community are coming around to recognize the power of thesesupplements.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening positive info, gives one a new sense of control
I enjoyed reading your book it was very informatiive with excellent suggestions for well being. I have one problem Ihope you can help mewith. Because of years of taking medications for R.A. my stomach is verysensitive to many medications such as asprin etc. I find I am unable totake chondroiten & glucosamine without stomach distress. Unfortunatley, these two supplements are a major part of the arthritiscure.I would appreciate any sugges tions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Dr. Theo!
I was involved in a motorcycle accident several years back, which had leftme with severe arthritis.

After reading Dr. Theo's book, my doctor andI decided to try to implement the program of nutrition and exercise, aswell as the use of Chondroitin and Glucosamine, as outlined in"Maximizing the Arthritis Cure." All I can say is THANK YOU DR.THEO!

The book was well written, clear and concise.Dr. Theo has a greatability to turn medical jargon into easily understood layman's terms.Heprovides many useful insights as well as answers to the questions I've beenasking all along.

I have seen many doctors, most of whom prescribedpain-killers and anti-inflammatory drugs. I was tired of getting therunaround and tired of hearing "You'll just have to live withit".Dr. Theo shows us a better way. If you or anyone you know hasarthritis, you must read this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the doctors proven home cure for arthritis
PLEASE try this program as I did 27 years ago at 30 after having to resort to gold injections and then relapsing.Prior to the book I was bedridden for 4 months-friends had to pry my jaws open to brush my teeth.
After two days on the program I could get out of bed, much experimentation
and TIME later, I was A-1! The "friend of an arthritic person",who panned this approach hasn't a clue about pain or time things may take for some people. At their request I have spoken at the Arthritis Foundation and learned some people just cannot try to do without doctors and meds.I had to beg my doc to stay with me so I could have the proper blood tests.PLEASE TRY THIS-"arthur" visits when I overdo, but it is NOT "my"
arthritis-I wouldn't own it for anything.Good luck and good living to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gave Me My Life Back!
At the time this book came into my hands, I was 19 years old and in excruciating all-over joint pain from the rheumatoid arthritis I'd had since aged nine. I was bed-ridden at the time and hardly wanting to eat but I started the diet recommended in the book and within three weeks I was pain free and have remained so. I went on to become a journalist and mother. I only wish that I had had this book as a resource when I was nine and those awful years of pain and joint damage could have been avoided. I am totally grateful to the author of this book and highly recommend it to those searching for arthritis self-help knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Starch = Pain Free
After living with debilitating pain for so many years I am very pleased with the results after having removed starch from my diet. I used to be in constant pain and barely able to walk (despite strong medication), whilst now I can actually run again :-).. and no more need for the pain killers / NSAID's [woohoo].

By the way, the mechanism involved in the diet involves eliminating starch, thus the diet now referred to as the 'No Starch Diet' or the 'Low Starch Diet'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rigorous scientific validity
As an ank spon sufferer, low starch diets are a tremendous help

1-0 out of 5 stars Total BS

This book provided helpful exercises and a wealth of background information to support them. So much of Qigong depends on really understanding the underlying concepts. This book presents these underlying concepts in a very comprehensive, but easy-to-read and fascinating way. 5-0 out of 5 stars A welcome, easy-to-follow supplement especially for those suffering from arthritis

Written by a Chinese martial arts and Qigong instructor who has trained and practiced since 1961, Arthritis Relief: Chinese Qigong For Healing And Prevention is now in an updated third edition with revised instructions for performing its suggested exercises. Presented as a complement to Western medicine, which is more proficient at relieving pain and inflammation than promoting full healing, Arthritis Relief demonstrates Qigong exercises and massage/acupressure techniques designed to rebuild the strength of one's joints, as well as an overview of arthritis itself and the dietary, genetic, and other factors that cause it. Black-and-white photographs demonstrate the recommended exercises and body movements. Though it cannot replace a visit to one's physician, Arthritis Relief is a welcome, easy-to-follow supplement especially for those suffering from arthritis and who want to do something more about it than just taking medicine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book On Healing Yourself
Dr. McGarey wrote this tour de force of alternative treatments for arthritis based on his years of experience in applying treatments based on what Edgar Cayce said on the subject before his death in 1945. We have one body with integrated systems which is itself integrated with the eternal, universal, healing energy. We were not created solely for allopathic medicine to poke, probe, scan and medicate. Separateness is not our nature.

We are responsible for what we are. What we eat, do, think and select as our ideals determines much of how well our body systems maintain their integrity. In this excellent book are suggestions such as avoiding chocolates and meat, massagingwith peanut oil (too simple for the drug companies to profit from), spinal adjustments by an osteopath, taking up meditation (does anyone now really believe in the discredited mind/body duality?), and a number of other modalities of treatment of the integrated body/mind/spirit creatures we are.

These are not 'take a pill and call me in ten days' kinds of healing methods. If you are willing to persevere in changing yourself in an integrated way for the better you must be prepared to make these challenging applications for a couple of years before you are entitled to gainsay them. The writer of this review has for year and a half applied some, but not all, of the recommendations (giving up chocolate is hard, but can be done) and can say as a personal recommendation that stiffness and pain in the spine, knees and hip are much reduced, to the point of simply no longer being a consideration.

The offshoot: this book is recommended reading - but listen! don't just read, apply! Begin! Change yourself. You can do it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Helpful, and Tasty!
I got this book, and I liked it very much. I am 14 and have JRA, OA, and Fibro. This book was very helpful, and the recipes were good. I would recommend it. I've read many books, and this is one of the better ones. Ienjoyed the food much!!

3-0 out of 5 stars I have mixed feelings about this book.
I perused this book carefully because I want informationon diet and FMS.There are good definitions of FMS, but the info and recipes seem to begeared toward reducing the "inflamation" of arthritis. As Iunderstand it, FMS is not a condition of inflamation. Thus, my confusion. For forms of inflamatory arthritis conditions it looks excellent. I'd liketo note that I have seen other books that tag FMS on to Arthritis in theirtitles or covers and don't seem to have much specific to FMS. A sellingtechnique, I suppose. This book is attractive and seems very good forarthritis, but not specific for FMS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have arthritis you need this book....
I was given this book at 18 years of age. I had been suffering from RA for the previous 7 years. At that point in my life I thought everything was hopeless, I'd never be able to work, no one would ever want to marry me and I would end up alone and in pain for the rest of my life.

Needles to say none of this happened. This book changed my life.
I put put heart and soul into following the recommendations and within a couple of weeks I went off the meds (much to my dr's disapproval mind you!) and have not looked back since. I have not had a flare up in 15 years.

This is my fifth time ordering this book (though up till now I have had to get it from AMazon UK)Not for myself but to give to others.I have even bought a copy for my doctor! No one should have to suffer needlessly and I really believe if there is anything you can do toimprove things you owe it to yourself to give it your best shot.I cringe everytime I hear someone say there is no cure for arthritis because it is simply not true.

I cannot recommend this book high enough, it is well written and simply makes sense.I hope that it helps you as much as it did me.

Best of luck!
