Niger, Aspergillus Terreus, Aspergillus Aculeatus, Aspergillus Parasiticus, Aspergillus Fischerianus. Excerpt:Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis In medicine , allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis ( ABPA ) is a condition characterised by an exaggerated response of the immune system (a hypersensitivity response ) to the fungus Aspergillus (most commonly Aspergillus fumigatus ). It occurs most often in patients with asthma or cystic fibrosis . Aspergillus spores are ubiquitous in soil and are commonly found in the sputum of healthy individuals. A. fumigatus is responsible for a spectrum of lung diseases known as aspergilloses . ABPA causes airway inflammation which can ultimately be complicated by sacs of the airways (bronchiectasis ). The disease may cause airway constriction (bronchospasm ). Besides asthma and cystic fibrosis, ABPA can also resemble other conditions such as eosinophilic pneumonia . The exact criteria for the diagnosis of ABPA are not agreed upon. Chest X-rays and CT scans , raised blood levels of IgE and eosinophils , immunological tests for Aspergillus together with sputum staining and sputum cultures can be useful. Biopsies are rarely needed. Treatment consists of corticosteroids and antifungal medications. Symptoms Patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis often have symptoms of poorly controlled asthma , with wheezing , cough , shortness of breath and exercise intolerance . They also have symptoms reminding of bronchiectasis , such as chronic sputum production, coughing up brownish muc... ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Aspergillosis," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Aspergillosis in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Aspergillosis when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Aspergillosis, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description

In medical practice there are often complex cases that make extraordinary demands on a clinician’s knowledge and ingenuity. In Challenging Cases in Allergy and Immunology, the authors provide these types of fascinating, and informative cases to complement a basic knowledge of diagnosis and management in these fields. As such, this novel title will be of interest to a wide array of allergists and clinical immunologists, as well as all students of medicine and allied health. Written by a multidisciplinary group of national and international experts, the book covers in detail two or more challenging, real-life cases in each disorder discussed. Each case is followed by a work-up, treatment plan, and discussion that includes a differential diagnosis, up-to-date references, and up to ten thought-provoking, multiple-choice questions that enhance the book’s value as a comprehensive reference and teaching text. The cases include not only the common allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and food allergy, but also disorders in immune regulation, autoimmunity, and immunodeficiencies. There are chapters on subjects as wide-ranging as anaphylaxis, occupational asthma, and immune-mediated rheumatic diseases. State-of-the-art and evidence-based, Challenging Cases in Allergy and Immunology is an important resource for all clinicians searching for ways to improve their ability to diagnose and manage patients with allergic and immunologic problems.

Product Description
Aspergillus fumigatus has become one of the most important fungal human pathogens in industrialized countries. It causes different diseases like allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma, and invasive aspergillosisdepending on the underlying disease as well as the immunological status of the host. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the classical and molecular techniques used in the isolation, analysis, diagnosis and the identification of potential virulence factors of aspergillus fumigatus. The pathogenesis and clinical presentation, the epidemiology and the therapy of A. fumigatus infections are discussed extensively. It should be a useful reference source for both clinical investigators and basic research scientists. ... Read more
