4-0 out of 5 stars For you child's sake, I beg you to read this review
There is significant evidence that the root cause of many, if not most, cases of asthma (and many allergies as well) is deficiency of magnesium. This fact is discussed in detail by Dr. Carolyn Dean in her excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Dr. Dean recommends that all asthma sufferers take supplemental magnesium daily -- 600 mg daily for addults (proportionally less, according to their body weight, for children). People with asthma who follow Dr. Dean's advice about daily magnesium supplementation often improve dramatically even if they have continued to struggle with asthma under other treatments which omit magnesium supplementation. For your child's sake, please read Dr. Dean's important book and follow her advice regarding daily magnesium supplementation. It may well be the most important thing you will ever due to relieve this terrible ailment. By the way, although a variety of magnesium supplements are available, and beneficial, chelated magnesium -- which is readily available in most health food stores -- is the most effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every parent dealing with asthma should have this!!
I have never reviewed a book before despite always reading the reviews before buying a book.No book has ever changed my life the way that this one has!!My son was diagnosed in March 2003 and his doctor thought his asthma would just be something that was tacked onto the end of a cold and nothing more.Unfortunately he seemed to always have a new cough (classic asthma symptom).I bought this book because I was interested in learning more about the disease and becoming a patient advocate for my son.Having this book is a gift!It has changed our lives. We were scared and now we're prepared! My son has not had the cough since we started the program in June. We've been using the recommended daily monitoring and preventive meds and life is grand. If you're dealing with asthma, BUY THIS BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed
This book was just what we needed to help us understand and control our son's asthma. Dr. Farber explains things in a clear and easy to understand manner. I keep this book accessible at all times. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has a child suffering from asthma. It's great for first time parents of asthmatic children and for those who have had years of experience as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST READ!!
This book is wonderful.Every parent of a child with asthma must read it.I have searched and searched for information this helpful and practical for two years. The book gave me confidence in our Dr. (who is always too busy to give us much information), but also pointed out some areas we need to work on with the Dr.I always question all the medication we give our son. After reading this book, I feel I understand asthma and the current treatment plans.

Book Description

Over 50 million Americans suffer from a range of frustrating allergy symptoms — from hay fever to asthma, hives to sinusitis. Many have tried medications, visited allergists, and used various treatments, desperate to find a reliable way to alleviate their pain, but just can’t seem to get the dependable relief they need. Now, one of New York's top allergists, Dr. Dean Mitchell, lifts the cloud of mystery surrounding allergies and offers a breakthrough new treatment program that will dramatically lessen their severity, if not cure them for good.

In Dr. Dean Mitchell's Allergy and Asthma Solution, Mitchell clearly and comprehensively explains what allergies are, why they are so prevalent, and all of the standard treatments. He then presents a cutting edge 5-step program for reversing allergies — called sublingual immunotherapy, or “allergy drops.” This new treatment, widely accepted in Europe but still relatively unknown in the United States, is painless, convenient, incredibly effective, and completely safe since it works naturally through the body’s immune system. Even better, it can be customized to meet specific needs, is shot-free, and can be self-administered.

Dr. Dean Mitchell's Allergy and Asthma Solution is the best guide to understanding allergies and overcoming their symptoms.

3-0 out of 5 stars No exercises - read Asthma Free naturally for them
I was a chronic asthmatic and the principles enshrined in this book are excellent. The only way that I solved my asthma was to address my overbreathing. This books tells you just that. One downside is that it does not contain the exercises. I have came across two books which do. These are asthma free naturally and Close Your mouth. They are little gems and contain all the information that you need to know. In fact Asthma free is the best book that I have ever read for asthma. It offers a solice of hope and has helped my quality of life improve significantly
in the past while.

Stalmatskis book is good, Asthma free or the more simpler Close Your Mouth are excellent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't exsplain how to do the excercises
This Book is a good supplement for information on Buteyko, but you will not learn how to do the breathing excercises from this book.I downloaded the James Hooper manual from here http://www.nqnet.com/catalog/paypal.html and after practicing Buteyko for a month, I am asthma free. I even scored 100% lung function on my test yesterday. It was only 60% three months ago. My doctor was amazed and even asked me to give him more information on Buteyko. It really does work, but you won't get the basics on how to preform the excercises from this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another breakthrough exposing the medical establishment
This book was very helpful in eliminating my exercise induced asthma. The principles and theory are very valid. I have been suffering from insomnia and mild asthma for many years and I do not like to take drugs if I can avoid it. I was also diagnosed as having sleep apnea and treated for that condition though without lasting results. This book shows why asthma develops in people and how you can control it and then cure it without any drugs. The only reason I gave the book four stars was the fact that this book does not spell out the actual 5-day treatment so I went and bought the book 'Breathing Free' by Teresa Hale. With the help of that book, I could administer the treatment to myself at home and saw some remarkable improvements in my sleep and a complete disappearance of my wheezing during running!! I also lost some weight! I highly recommend both books. I am actually consulting with the the author for a fee to continue my application of the treatment program for maximum and long-lasting results. I start to wonder why our medical establishment seem to prefer expensive drug therapies for everything when there are so many simple and non-invasive treatments out there. Could the drug companies be involved in this attitude ? I wonder.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you have asthma, read this book!
I picked up this book for a dollar on the sale table at Barnes & Noble.I've had asthma since I was 3.I've been on inhalers for 25 years.I've been hospitalized twice, have had heart palpitations and other nastyside effects of asthma and inhalers.Sure, I want to be free fromasthma!

The ideas in this book sounded crazy when I first read them. Asthma is the result of too MUCH breathing?Carbon dioxide is important, and too little of it causes asthma and other diseases?I think I actuallylaughed out loud when I read the first few chapters. Then I kept reading. And the ideas started making sense.

This book doesn't give you a lot ofpractical exercises to work with; it seems to be more an overview of what'staught in the Breathing Connection seminars. That's why I gave it 4 starsinstead of 5.But the book does give you enough practical information toimprove your own breathing.Breathe less--less deeply and less often. Breathe through your nose.Be consistent with just those two principlesand you will see improvement.Although they're counterintuitive, relax andpractice them when you feel your asthma kicking in and don't be surprisedif oncoming symptoms go away.In 3 days I've cut my bronchodilator use inhalf, I sleep through the night and my heart rate has dropped from 120 to60."Freedom from Asthma" also covers diet, exercise, and anumber of other areas where you can improve your health by improving yourbreathing.Nothing too deep, but helpful nonetheless.

I just finishedthis book today and tomorrow I'm getting Teresa Hale's book.I'm new tothis but hopeful."Freedom from Asthma" is far from thorough, but it's a good start. If you've been looking for freedom from asthma, youmay find it in the principles described here.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works if you work at it. Its not a quick fix, though.
I have to disagree with the reader from "near Boston" on this book. The Buteyko Method is not "pseudoscience" at all, although it does contradict a lot of conventional American medical understandingsabout asthma and breathing disorders. The Method works if you work at it,and if you are willing to go through the occasional discomfort of workingat it . This approach is not a quick fix, and many people will simply haveto take the $500 seminar to properly apply the Method to their individualcircumstances. Sometimes a book alone won't do it, which is something bothStalmatski and Hale state only too clearly in both of their books. Contraryto the reader from "near Boston's" assertion, there is some cleardiscussion of how to use the Method in connection with exercise. It hasbeen used quite extensively with the Australian rugby teams to very goodsuccess. I myself have modified my own exercise routines quite a bit, and Ialso had exercised-induced asthma attacks in my past history. Now if Iexercise very heavily without proper warmup I might experience some mildhyperventilation which I usually can bring under control in 5 to 10minutes.The straight skinny is that I recommend all of you out there withbreathing disorders to buy this book and try the Method out for yourself.Make up your own mind. Consider taking the seminar. It will be worth it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Basic Information
I had asthma as a child, and now my daughter has it.This book is a reasonable introductory text, but you can find the same information on the internet. It provides an overview of asthma, covers medications, and medication delivery.Sentences like "We want to emphasize that even for the most severe asthma, highly effective, safe, and convenient medications are available" (picked at random) are strewn throughout the book, and give some idea of the authors' bias.Unfortunately, my daughter has experienced significant side-effects from her asthma medications. This book did not address this issue. The lists of medication side-effects are about what you'd find on the box.It does not discuss the pros/cons of various dosages, interaction of medications, or alternatives. If you or your child has just gotten asthma, and you are looking for an introductory reference book, this is probably a reasonable choice.Again, most of this information is easily found on the internet. If you are looking for more detailed information, I found this book lacking.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful General Information
My mother is newly diagnosed with asthma, at age 68. Getting this diagnosis been a confusing process that hasn't been very well explained by her doctor. This book is full of good, medically based general information. I would recommend it for someone who needs an introduction to the subject that is fairly detailed but easy to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and helpful
The book has special sections, e.g. Women, Children, Adult-onset, older folks, etc.I contracted adult-onset asthma and being a diver, the disease cramped my lifestyle. This comprehensive book helped me understand the causes of the disease, treatment, advances in medicine, asthma action plan, etc.It helped me to have an intelligent and informed discussion with my pulmonologist.

5-0 out of 5 stars good for me (mild adult asthma)
I have suffered asthma for close to 2 years now, before I've
had allergy for a long time. The book explains very clearly what
asthma is and gives practical information on medication, answers
lots of questions that I didn't even know about. It also has
specific section for women regarding what medicine should be
used during pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
As a parent of a child just diagnosed with asthma, I was looking for a good reference for understanding what asthma is and how it is treated and managed. When I ordered this book, I was expecting a dry textbook type book long on theory and short on application. What I got was a clear well written and layed out book. It is easy to read and understand. It has up to date information on the current drugs and offers practical advice on how to manage asthma for the long haul. It has instuctions and advice on how to properly use the various medicines. It give me the knowledge to comfortably discuss asthma with my doctor and laid the foundation for establishing a long term treatment plan. Overall this is an excellent book on asthma. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The information in this book helped me to breathe again!
I've had asthma all my life - luckily it has been fairly well-controlled throughout adulthood. That is until I was unknowingly exposed to mold in my home.Even though the mold was remediated, I continued to experience severe, persistent asthma for over four months.I was referred to a pulmonologist and put on high doses of various types of asthma medication.I had a minimal amount of relief with these medications and still had to use a nebulizer two or three times a day.

I realized this was no way to live my life and started looking for other solutions.Thank goodness I came across Mr. Challem's book - after only one month of following his recommendations of the basic supplements (vitamin C, E, and fish oil) - I have found relief!I have not had to use my nebulizer in a week.I want to ease into the nutritional program because it will be a big change for me, but I can only imagine how great I'm going to feel after once it is implemented.

Take back control of your life, instead of letting your body do it for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars helpful
I bought this book because I have fibromyalgia and the only thing that showed up abnormal on my tests was "inflammation". This book helped me understand what was causing my pain and the supplements to take to reduce the inflamation. I have used the suggestions in this book and Meggs' book to reduce my pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK
The book itself is very informative and easy to understand. It goes a long way in trying to educate a population that health begins at the cellular level and with some knowledge, health is still within our reach.Poor health can be turned around.

The delivery time was quick....I appreciate that.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best so far
I have studied nutrition for 40 years and this brings it all together. It is the best book on the subject of the four that I have read. Unfortunately, it does not mention that FARMED salmon usually contains 5 to 7 times the harmful fatty acids that the same amount of wild salmon has, and that flax seed is not a good substitute for omega-3 fish oil, because humans cannot convert it efficiently. Mice and fish can and that had not been taken into accoount until recently.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Challem's The Inflammation Syndrome
In my view, even his trademarking of phrases does not distract from his comprehension of nutrition biology. Howwever, his review of supplements reminds me of the writing of automotive columnists. There are few commercial products to which he is opposed. This is a useful and well written book. I'd also highly recommend Stop Inflammation Now! by Dr Richard M. Fleming. I'd avoid the book entitled The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book by Jessica K. Black. I have no problem with her N.D. credentials, but question her biases and abandonment of scientific method to support her assertions. ... Read more

If allergies make you wheeze, sneeze, drip, itch, puff, or droop, or if asthma makes you feel like an elephant is standing on your chest, you'll want to read Allergies and Asthma for Dummies. Author William Berger, M.D., M.B.A., knows his stuff. He is a practicing allergist, a member of the task force that developed national guidelines for treating allergic diseases, and a former staff allergist for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team.

You get much more than the basics here. You learn how to prevent and treat the common types of allergies, with extensive information on hay fever and skin rashes, and short but helpful sections on allergic reactions to food, drugs, and insects. The asthma section is especially comprehensive, with instructions for recognizing and managing asthma triggers, monitoring air flow, selecting the best medications for both short-term and long-term relief, and special considerations for pregnant women and children. The book covers both self-help and pharmacological treatment methods in depth, but not alternative treatments.

One of the most helpful chapters is "Relieving Your Rhinitis," which will appeal especially to the 45 million Americans who suffer from hay fever. Allergic rhinitis (the medical term) is not a fever and is caused not by hay, but rather by airborne pollen from grasses, trees, and weeds. The commonly used over-the-counter antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal sprays may not be your best choice, says Berger. He describes the uses and advantages of recommended prescription drugs, and advises a medical evaluation to choose the right one for you.

The book's style, though still easy to understand, is not as casual or humorous as the typical For Dummies book. This may be because Berger is more intent on packing a bundle of helpful medical information into the book than being witty. --Joan PriceBook Description

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have allergies, you need this book!
I got this book about two weeks after my 9-year-old son suffered his first asthma attack. After reading it, I feel much better prepared to cope with his condition. The author's tone is reassuring without being condescending. And there is an enormous amount of information, everything from how to choose a specialist to charts describing the effects and usual dosages of the most common medications. Since I have been suffering from allergies and sinus problems myself this spring, it was especially useful. I think this might be the best investment in our family's health I ever made!

5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL READING
I have read numerous books about asthma in children, but this book is by far the best. The information is presented in a clear, understandable way, but is not so simplified as to be unhelpful. The book is full of good tips and pertinent information; it's like spending an hour or two talking with an asthma specialist. The book has what I found to be invaluable information about how to monitor asthma in children who are too young to use peak flow meters.A system called "asthma signs" is used and is a wonderful way to identify problems and monitor asthma in young children.
There is a also a very helpful section on traveling with a child who has asthma.
If I were to recommend only one book on asthma in children, this would be the book.

This book became my single source for reference about asthma. Till I found this book, I was reading anything and everything that I could find on the net about asthma. My 3 year old had an asthma episode as a result of a viral infection. She has an excellent pediatrician and we chose to care for her at home. I got great comfort in knowing that the things we did intuitively were the recommended things in this book. It helps to have a good doctor. It also helps to have this book as a friend. While I was freaking out that my daughter had asthma, this book helped me calm down cos I realized that it could be worse. My heart goes out to all the children who suffer. If you are a parent of a young child with asthma, read this book. It will help you understand what asthma is all about in plain words and give you an idea of what you can do to make your child's life more comfortable by learning to identify the symptoms and manage your child's asthma better. Make sure you have a good doctor, too!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly helpful
Last weekend my seven year old son had an asthma attack with no warning, his first ever. Our doctor treated him competently and he is now recovering nicely, but the information we were given -- and all the drugs and instructions -- were a bit overwhelming. My first response was to try to find some good books on asthma in children, and I was lucky enough to find this one.It explains everything you need to know about asthma in easy-to-understand language.I learned many important facts about the biology of asthma, the drugs my son is taking, long-term care and management of asthma, and -- perhaps most importantly -- the questions I should be asking his doctor. The book is well illustrated, including pictures of all the different kinds of inhalers and spacers, how to properly administer different medications, etc. (particularly useful for newcomers to the world of asthma). I also really liked all the information and sample forms showing how to keep an "asthma diary" of your child's symptoms and treatment. The first-person stories of how other parents have dealt with their children's asthma were helpful, especially for putting things into perspective. In summary, this book really helped me to understand what we are facing, and I now feel much better able to deal with it.I have other asthma books on order, but I doubt I'll need them -- it is hard to imagine how any other book on asthma in children could top this one.

Dr. Plaut was coming to a town near me to speak shortly after my daughter was hospitalized for the third time. One of the nurses handed me a flyer and recommended I go hear him.I bought his book before I went. This book was a lifesaver.I first read it nearly 10 years ago (spring 1992) and my daughter has not been hospitalized since!Dr. Plaut gives the average parent the confidence to handle this illness without falling apart and without having to decipher the medical-ese being spoken by the doctors in charge of their child.

2-0 out of 5 stars Naet didn't work for me
After reading this book (very dry read, hard to finish), I had NAET over the course of several years with 3 different practitioners. I figured when it didn't work with the first one that it was their technique at fault, not the method. After thousands of dollars, not covered by insurance, and absolutely zero results I gave it up. I had chronic back tension which I hadn't had before but no allergy relief. I did try Bowen work, which is a similar idea of opening the energy channels which doesn't involve the spine. After 10 sessions I could grow flowers again and have them in my house, after sneezing for 3 years solid. Another 10 sessions greatly reduced my asthma to managable levels. I didn't have further improvement, but by then I'd moved to another area and I think my Bowen worker had a different technique. I don't recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars patient of ellen cutler
We all know that close friends, relatives or colleagues who have something to gain write the 5 stars critics. They are really objective.
This book is a 0 star and should be taken off the market. I can't believe it is still being sold. It is misleading. It taps into the thousands of people vulnerability who are so desperate to find a cure for themselves or their young children they are ready to try anything.
I was one of these people.I bought the book, read it, sounded promising so I made an appointment to see Dc Cutler.I was her patient for some time but got no relief. I spend quite a bit of money on the products she wanted me to take but nothing changed!
Ellen Cutler isa charlatan in my opinion. She actually laid me to believe her treatment cured me from my egg white allergy. I believed her at first but the following week, I had a conversation with her assistant while getting another treatmentshe said Mrs., "you were NEVER ALLERGIC to egg white. WOW! I could not believe it. I still gave a chance to Mrs. Cutler treatment for a few more weeks. But no results, no change. It was clear I was wasting my time and my money. So I stop seeing her.
Now several years later although still allergic to egg yolk, cat and dog, I am feeling better as far as my asthma goes because I finally got out of a 30 years abusive marriage.

....

To anyone who is reading this review, seeking hope for allergy CURING: ignore the negative comments and judge for yourself. ....

NAET is incredible, it is totally new, and something you will find yourself questioning when you read about it (because it is so different to the status quo medical approach). But let me tell you from personal experience: IT WORKS!

I have eliminated car sickness with NAET, and am currently working on my severe pollen fever. I'm seeing big results! If I can cure my pollen fever, don't you think you can cure YOUR allergies?

At least study it, and even find a practitioner ... and try it instead of point-blank giving up an opportunity to end your suffering. Those who dismiss this new approach to allergies without even trying it (!!!) have no one to blame but themselves for their unresolved allergies.

....

GOOD LUCK!

Ellen Cutler's work is visionary. It works whereas nothing else seems to - After being chronically ill for years and searching, full time, for a medical and/or alternative practitioner who could help me, finding and being treated by Ellen Cutler is like finding a needle in a haystack.I ameternally grateful that I have found her located so close to where I live. She is a kind and compassionate soul.

I see that another reviewer hasjudged her work without experiencing it which is what prompted me to postthis review. That reviewer has done his or herself a disservice to judgeEllen Cutler's work without first hand experience.

Secondly, anotherreviewer was looking for a practitioner. Here you can connect to a nationwide list ofpractitioners and veterinarians.

I believe this technique has thepotential to become the foundation for the practice of medicine and that byuse of this technique in children, they never have to develop chronicillnesses by correctingimbalances at their onset of symptoms.

EllenCutler's technique is fascinating, as is she.

WOW!! Talk about a "Tah Dah" experience, an "ephiphany", a life changing moment.I was attending a feild seminar as a graduate student in the School of Social Work fortunately Dr. Schafer was scheduled to present Spirituality in Social Work Practice. I was so impressed by Dr. Schafer's ideas, beliefs and her approach to life, I told myself, "I've got to get this book."I didn't know what I would discover, since I don't have asthma. I thought I would just read the book. However, the skills, ideas, tools presented between the covers of this easy to read, to the point book are appropriate for anyone seeking to make a change in their life.I discovered the mental imagery, other exercises, philosophy of FUN (to name just a few)are effective tools or methods for people whose abiltiy to take in vital life support is restricted by self doubt, expectations, fear.Anything that keeps us from living life abundantly can be addressed using the information and philosophyDr. Kathryn Schafer shares. She knows from personal experience and her story is amazing and inspirational.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would you deal with diabetes this way?
This book fell far short of my expectations. It focused on a few things that may trigger asthma, but discussed them as if they were the disease process itself. Especially confusing is that this book offers an approach that disables the person with asthma (limiting his or her choice), but couches this disability in terms of acceptance, personal liberation and self-actualization. Most people with asthma (about 95%) can live perfectly normal, active lives that are rarely affected by the disease. Asthma does not have to be the centerpiece of their self-identification. Asthma is a controllable disease. Follow the approach of these authors, and the disease controls you. Their approach is not much different than telling a child not to run around - thereby limiting his or her social and physical development - instead of administering appropriate preventive medication. Asthma is a lifelong chronic inflammatory disease of the lungs with multiple phenotypes. The disease process is characterized by airway inflammation. Everyone has a unique set of asthma triggers. Some people's asthma may be triggered by attitudes, belief systems, and behavior, although the most common triggers are environmental exposure and upper respiratory infections. Recent research in peer-reviewed journals indicates that airway remodeling can result when the inflammation process is not controlled through anti-inflammatory therapy. In other words, a reversible airway disease becomes static, cellular composition is permanently altered, and pulmonary function is compromised. Take the F.U.N. approach at your own risk. Pulmonary function deteriorates as part of the aging process. Research consistently shows that people with asthma who control the inflammation process with daily anti-inflammatory medication and reduce exposure to allergens have stronger pulmonary function as they age. And people with asthma who do not use anti-inflammatory medications suffer marked deterioration of pulmonary function as they age. New evidence is starting to emerge that asthma not treated with anti-inflammatory medication also is linked to increased hyper-reactivity of the airways. In other words, their lungs become "twitchy" with smaller and smaller exposures triggering inflammation. Their lives become increasingly restricted. If publishers were liable for medical malpractice awards, readers would have to sign consent forms waiving their rights to redress before they could buy irresponsible feel-good books like this. In summary, asthma is a chronic disease of the lungs. Work in partnership with your doctor or nurse practitioner to find the appropriate medication to control the airway inflammation process. Once you have control of the pharmacotherapy, then try alternative or complementary medical approaches, and measure their efficacy by how much you can reduce your anti-inflammatory medication without increasing symptoms or need for urgent medical services, or restricting activity. Good luck.

I just attended a lecture given by my pediatrician's office and this book was recommended as a guide by the doctor facilitating the lecture. I haven't read the book yet but it was referred to quite a bit during the lecture and I do plan on purchasing it as it sounds like a good reference.

1-0 out of 5 stars Guide You to Your Pediatricianýs Waiting Room
Just because mainstream pediatricians can't cure allergies or asthma does not mean that they are incurable.Nowhere in this book is any understanding about why people get allergies and asthma in the first place, aside from a genetic tendency. What brings out this tendency in your child?Apparently, the American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't know. This book is dedicated to keeping allergy medicine in the dark ages of throwing drugs at the symptoms without much attempt to understand their cause.Environmental approaches to allergy and asthma are almost entirely ignored, or contradicted in another part of the book.

The lies in this book about the dangers of allergy and asthma pharmaceutical medications are criminal. The lies about complementary (natural, alternative) medicine are just as criminal.Though the forward of the book promises to review alternative treatments and therapies, natural medicine in its entirety is given only two pages in the entire book, labeled as "not scientifically proven" (a blatant lie for many types of natural medicine) or vaguely implied to be somehow dangerous or threatening, which is immensely exaggerated and generally unfounded.Only pediatricians who push toxic protocals are actually threatened by natural medicine, whom they view as competition when laypeople wise up to the vast failings of pharmaceutical-based medicine, especially when it comes to allergies, asthma, and other chronic illnesses. The party line is hammered home in this book as you are reminded time and again to seek your pediatrician's advice, especially when it comes to alternative modalities he or she may know nothing about, may view as threatening competition, or may be brainwashed into lying about. You must not make any choices on your own if there's a pediatrician to be consulted!

It is curious that nobody even claims authorship of any specific part of this book-typical for propaganda. There is a list of "contributors and reviewers," with no reference to who did what, or with what part. This book's aim is to get your child into the pediatrician's office frequently, and to get and keep your child on medications, some of which are extremely toxic.Steroidal medications are some of the most toxic pharmaceuticals available today, and the thought of poisoning an infant with such things, without even considering natural options, is simply heartbreaking. It almost goes without saying that iatrogenic causes of allergy and asthma are not even mentioned anywhere in this book, though it does admit that allergies to antibiotics do occur.

"Guide to Your Child's Allergies and Asthma" inadvertently demonstrates just how little the American Pediatric experts in allopathic biomedicine really understand about allergies and asthma. The results are frustrating: loading children up on toxic meds indefinitely, treating the symptoms without "wasting time" trying to understand the cause, and a drastic, all-around failure to relieve the suffering of children.Preventing the onset of allergies in the first place doesn't even seem to be an option, aside from the advice to breast-feed your babies-just what natural health professionals have said all along!Perhaps the infant formula companies haven't been keeping up on their membership dues?

If you would like to think like a mainstream, conservative MD does about allergies and asthma, and view allergies from the narrowest possible definition; if you prefer to ignore all the progress made in modern times and in other cultures around allergy theory and treatment (such as by Theron Randolph, MD, whose books I highly recommend, or Doris Rapp, MD-a pediatrician, or Dr. Firshein's "Reversing Asthma" book which details the hazards of asthma medications and a variety of alternatives, or Bob Flaws' book "Curing Hayfever Naturally with Chinese Medicine" for example); if you can stomach the case studies of children's suffering which is hardly alleviated by the poisonous chemicals they ingest, inhale, and absorb through their skin; if you can sort through the shocking and baffling combination of sound advice, half-truths, misinformation, blatant lies, and cover-ups of the truth; if you can fathom the bizarre claims that global pollution is improving and that allergies and asthma may inadvertently result from people being too healthy because of modern accomplishments in allopathic medicine, then this is the book for you.Otherwise, there are other books on allergies, asthma, and pediatrics that are much more accurate, vastly more insightful, and far closer to the truth.
