2-0 out of 5 stars This is EXACTLY what your doctor tells you
I found this book to be a regurgitation of what I had already been told by two pediatricians regarding my 4 year olds recently diagnosed asthma. Nothing new here at all. I was surprised that the doctors do not seem to acknowledge the large role diet plays in a condition such as asthma. I am not a doctor, however, even I can see the significant link between diet and health. Since my son's asthma diagnosis a month ago, I have dramatically restructured his diet and began supplementing him with magnesium. Guess what?! My son has shown significant improvement over the past 3 weeks! Even his allergies seem to have improved. I am proud to report my son hasn't taken a single asthma or allergy medication in two weeks. If you are resigned to a life of medication and supporting the multi-million dollar pharmaceutical company's, then this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hoping for more information I could use at home to help...
This book is a good book to help define and aid in the understanding in causes of Asthma and different allergies, but I was hoping for more information that I could use at home to help reduce chances for asthma attacks and my son's allergy induced asthma.

4-0 out of 5 stars For your child's sake, please read this review
There is significant evidence that the root cause of many, if not most, cases of asthma (and many allergies as well) is deficiency of magnesium. This fact is discussed in detail by Dr. Carolyn Dean in her excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Dr. Dean recommends that all asthma sufferers take supplemental magnesium daily -- 600 mg daily for addults (proportionally less, according to their body weight, for children). People with asthma who follow Dr. Dean's advice about daily magnesium supplementation often improve dramatically even if they have continued to struggle with asthma under other treatments which omit magnesium supplementation. For your child's sake, please read Dr. Dean's important book and follow her advice regarding daily magnesium supplementation. It may well be the most important thing you will ever due to relieve this terrible ailment. By the way, although a variety of magnesium supplements are available, and beneficial, chelated magnesium -- which is readily available in most health food stores -- is the most effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars New kind of medical book
This is a different kind of medical book from any I've ever looked at.The rest are predominantly lists and checklists, and dull as well. This one not only dispenses very helpful advice but gets inside the heads of children who have these conditions, their parents, and explains theory and practice behind the medical specialty itself. Some of the anecdotes about how non-specialists can botch treatment are shocking. Some if it is also quite funny. Also, it's nice to read a book by doctors who still clearly love the practice of medicine and doing good for people, in spite of all the changes that have happened to the profession in recent years. This book should make many lives better and even save some.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Information Packed Into This Little Book!
This concise little book contains everything you need to know in order to provide yourself or someone in your care with excellent asthma management.Dr. Plaut has taken all of the most up-to-date knowledge we have about asthma care and has distilled it into a highly user-friendly, easy-to-read guide. It is simultaneously comprehensive and brief, complete and to-the-point.It is especially useful for those who wish to learn all they need to know but who may not have the time or inclination to read through a more detailed resource (e.g., Plaut's Asthma Guide for All Ages).I especially recommend it to anyone working with children who may have asthma: teachers, day-care providers, camp counselors, etc.I recently gave it to my teenage daughter (who has asthma) so that she could better understand how to take care of herself. With a busy teenage schedule, she would never have taken the time to read through an entire book, but One-Minute Asthma provided her with the essential information she needed to know without taking up a lot of her time.

Book Description
Dr. Ravikovich describes his clinical experience with histamine - a synthetic version of the body's substance that stimulates the body to heal itself. His histamine therapy freed hundreds of asthma, allergy and migraine sufferers from drugs that have disastrous effects on the patients' health and the course of the diseases for which these drugs are prescribed.

Unlike other books that concentrate on triggers, this book spells out the primary cellular and genetic defects in patients with allergies, asthma and related diseases and shows how to repair these defects. The author substantiates this through the theoretical works of the world's leading scientists.

Dr. Ravikovich undertook extensive detective search of literature in molecular biology, immunopharmacology, genetics, and clinical medicine that led him to unprecedented revelations. The scientific foundation for the treatment that could save millions from suffering and dying has been concealed by the medical elite to enable the pharmaceutical industry to develop only those drugs that do not cure and ensure indefinite patient dependence. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible book with tons of info that the Medical Estabishment never told you.
Awesome!!!For the first time in my life I read that my allergies, headaches and chronic tiredness all have the SAME cause.I've swallowed tons of painkillers, antihistamines and vitamins, and nothing worked. Now, I understand why.

Though I've read several books on allergies, I never really got a grasp of histamines.Just to think about all the ANTIhistamines I have consumed over the years!Using this book, I was able to diagnose the particular kind of asthma I have, which even my own doctors missed! Now I see why I thought I had "bronchitis" every summer and blindly turned to popping antibiotics.Senseless... I never needed them in the first place.

This book is read best if you start with the first chapter, with your particular disease in mind, and skip the 3rd chapter if you are not in medicine - too difficult. The rest is a must if you have any of the diseases mentioned on the cover.

Excellent and highly recommended!Don't pass this one up if you are living a life of constant pain, irritation, and seasonal physical and mental fog.You will not regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and enlightening book
If you or someone you love has allergies or asthma and you are now are reading this note - say your thank you to God for bringing you to this page!

You must read this book! I did and I finally understand what asthma and allergies really are, what are the causes and mechanisms. I was shocked to see what our modern medical world is doing to us! Deliberately and consistently, the modern treatments are destroying our health. Read about it. This book explains it so well. Bring it to your doctor. We do not need these medications with fancy names and expensive price tags - the real treatment is here - it is so cheap and simple!

You will see that Dr. Ravikovich, who wrote this book, is not like most other doctors and scientists - who are either driven by financial gains or just choose not to bother, he truly cares. He put so much research, hard work, talent and love for his patients together to write this book for us! He is not looking for fame or fortune - so he speaks the truth.

This is a profound reading that will save your health - you will love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know about asthma
This book is eye opener. It explains why there are allergies and how to quickly and effectively cure them. It is amazing to learn that there is a cure, inexpensive cure.
I've been having allergies and asthma for many years, which my own doctors have been trying ineffectively to treat by drugging the symptoms into submission, but the symptoms got only worse over the years. Why my doctor could not tell me that the cure exists? Why he did not explain the side affect of the drugs commonly used? Read this book to get the answers!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars All you wanted to know about Allergies, but were afraid to ask..
This book is a MUST for every asthma and allergy Patient. The information this book provides, most doctors are hesitant to reveal. It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to know the truth about allergies, asthma - their sources and a possible cure.

Book Description

The first book to fully explore the extraordinary effectiveness of black cumin against immune-system disorders, allergies, asthma, and skin problems.

Written by the world's foremost experts on black cumin.

Includes precise directions for preparation and specific recipes for treating a variety of ailments.

The extraordinary healing powers of black cumin have been known for centuries in the Middle East where the Prophet Mohammed himself declared: "Black cumin heals every disease except for death." It enjoyed wide use in ancient Egypt as a digestive aid and as an effective medicine for colds, headaches, toothaches, and infections. Because of its complex chemical structure--it has over one hundred active ingredients--black cumin has positive effects on the respiratory, immune, circulatory, digestive, and urinary systems. It is enormously effective against asthma, stomach ailments, and numerous skin conditions, ranging from acne to psoriasis. It also has been the subject of intensive scientific research indicating that it strengthens and stabilizes the immune system and is greatly beneficial in the treatment of allergies. It has even been found to be beneficial in the treatment of impotence when the causes are primarily physiological.

This book will serve as an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the healing properties of this incredible plant. It contains everything you need to know in order to use black cumin for the prevention and treatment of illness, including specific recipes for infections and allergies, and precise directions for their preparation. The authors even provide a section on the use of black cumin as a beauty aid and as a culinary staple.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Helpful
I have found Dr. Tom Plaut's Asthma Guide for People of All Ages a crucial resource as we learn about our daughter's asthma.Dr. Plaut explains asthma physiology, medications, and devices very clearly. The tone is friendly and positive. The patient stories are like a support group, giving a window into other people's experiences. Some of the stories made me count my blessings!Others illuminated issues I hadn't really thought about, but that were in fact affecting my family.

These features alone would make the Asthma Guide for People of All Ages a good buy, but Dr. Plaut's book goes beyond physiology, treatments, and personal and family impact to address two important areas many people are likely to be struggling with, and which are valuable no matter what treatment you use.It explains how to understand and respond to your individual condition; and it encourages you to take an active role in your own care.

Some doctors take a one-size-fits-all stance--"this is how I like to treat asthma," in the words of one Procrustean family practitioner we consulted. In contrast, Dr. Plaut's approach provides information and reasoning to help you to understand your particular situation. It also teaches the skills you need to identify your own personal best state, to spot your own triggers and symptoms, and to know when you need to take action to prevent further trouble.

Again, too many physicians expect the patient to blindly do whatever the doctor says. This gets my goat.Dr. Plaut's book stresses the importance of working together with an experienced physician instead of just carrying out instructions. He shows how this enables the individual or family in the trenches to handle asthma care calmly and competently in a range of situations.

Family members are encouraged to work cooperatively instead of hierarchically with one another, as well as with their physician. Dr. Plaut recognizes the common pattern where, when a child has asthma, one parent takes on the job of being the asthma authority/caregiver, and he explains why this is not a sustainable long-term plan.

In harmony with the overall emphasis on shared knowledge and responsibility, there are also chapters on dealing with asthma at school or on family vacations--where the knowledge and responsibility of people outside the immediate family become important. The school chapter has very interesting and enlightening sections on applicable laws and common indoor air pollutants--as well as on how a typical teenager might behave during an asthma episode in school!

I recommend Dr. Tom Plaut's Asthma Guide for People of All Ages to anyone interested in learning how to be an active, empowered partner in their own asthma care or that of a family member.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!!
My son's pediatrician recommended that I read this book.Having been recently diagnosed with asthma, we were exhausted from running from doctor to doctor (for 6 years) with no answers about his "cough".We were told to do everything from "ignore it", or just give "cough medicine" so we wouldn't have to listen to it anymore. Before I read this book, I felt very out of control with regard to my son's asthma.I cried after every doctor visit because I was so utterly overwhelmed by the technical lingo and all of the different medications and when/why I was giving them.Once I started reading this book, I cannot believe how much sense everything made.I knew what questions to ask, what terminology to use and more importantly, I felt in control. My son's pediatrician even commented to me how I was asking all the right questions, and how much of a difference he could see in me!I am not as stressed when my son was experiencing a "flare-up" and I even now understand WHY I am giving each medicine and what it does to help him.
I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book for anyone who wants to know more about asthma.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Helpful
Dr. Plaut's book is informative, easy to read, and helpful. His direct, no-nonsense approach to treating asthma is reassuring, particularly after being newly diagnosed with asthma. His book has enhanced our ability to communicate with our son's doctors about his symptoms, prescribed medications, and signs of improvement. We are grateful for this comprehensive resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a BLESSING!!!
This is a tremedous book for anyone that thinks they might have asthma or if they actually have been diagnosed with asthma. My 22 month old was recently diagnosed with asthma and even though I'm a college graduate I was having some trouble making sense of all the medications and reading the signs when he was having trouble since he's too young for a peak flow meter. This book covers it all in great deal and teaches you how to really manage your asthma whether you can use a peak flow meter or not. A wonderful book and worth far more than the list price. The author is actually an asthma specialist and indicated you can get the information in this book from your doctor, but it would take 10 hours. It would be difficult for you to remember and you would probably not want to pay for it! I think that is a good description of this book! It goes along exactly with what my doctor has been saying, only presents it in an organized manner along with some forms in the back to keep a daily diary and treatment plan. EXCELLENT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide for asthmatics
I have read a number of books and articles on asthma. This is by far the most comprehensive, up to date and it is easy to understand, too. I checked a copy from my library but it is so good that I am going to purchase it for my personal reference library as well as my child's school nurse. This book even has short section explaining cough-variant asthma, which is what both me and my son have...this is a little known type of asthma which in my case was mis-diagnosed for 35 years. ...
