Product Description

Moshe ben Maimon, or Moses Maimonides (1135-1204), remains one of the most celebrated rabbis in this history of Judaism; his numerous writings include philosophical and medical treatises in Arabic, two of history's most important works on Jewish law, and, most notably, efforts to reconcile Aristotelian philosophy with biblical teaching. The Complete Medical Works, edited by Gerrit Bos of the Martin-Buber-Institut fur Judaistik at the University of Cologne, collects the entirety of Maimonides's medical writings.

Notwithstanding its title, On Asthma is in fact a complete regimen of health, designed for the needs of a high-ranking patient whose identity is not stated. In true Galenic fashion, Maimonides stresses that a healthy lifestyle and diet are the most important preventative measures against chronic illness such as asthma. Good and bad foods are described in detail, and many recipes for beneficial dishes and drugs are included, with Maimonides adapting Galenic regimens to the needs of his Muslim patient.

5-0 out of 5 stars True Love
So this is what a Krentz novel is like without the usual heavy dollop of suspence and secondary characters. And I have to say I loved it.

Test of Time was originally published in 1988, but you'd never know it.When I think of some of the modern romances I struggle through now (sappy heroines, cruel heroes, BIG misunderstandings)...well, let me just say that Test of Time stacks up very well in comparison.

I really liked the heroine, Katy Randall. She is quiet, serious and intelligent - the kind of woman I would like to have as a friend. Garrett Coltrane is also very appealing - dark, rugged, self-made, responsible and decent. I really liked the fact that Garrett was relatively inexperienced in relationships just like Katy was, as I'm not a fan of 'All those other women meant nothing to me, darling' type of heroes.

I suppose the set-up of the novel is a bit formulaic, but that's pretty much what I want from an escapist love story. The book begins with Katy and Garrett's wedding - they have known each other for just 2 months (although they did know each other when Katy was a child and Garrett worked in her father's stables). Katy is deeply in love with Garrett and has convinced herself that he feels the same. But after a passionate wedding night, Garrett admits that he is not in love with her - he doesn't believe in love. Katy is heartbroken and angry with herself for being so foolish. She decides divorce is the only answer although it will break her heart. Garrett convinces her to stay with him for 3 months and then see how she feels. The rest of the novel sees Katy and Garrett get to know each other much better and decide whether they have a future. It's giving nothing away to say that the outcome is very satisfactory :-)

Going back to my first point, it was really nice to read a Krentz novel where the central couple were at the heart of the story all the way through. In more recent Krentz's, the mystery plotline seems to push the romance to the side. I also think there are also too many secondary characters in the more recent Krentz novels, whereas Katy and Garrett are very much the focus of Test of Time. My paperback copy is 250 pages long, so it isn't too short to be satifying either. Overall, this is a great love story with likeable characters and I plan on re-reading it again and again.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 1/2 stars
This is NOT JAK at her best but neither is it her worst. Katy starts to get bridal jitters right after the wedding but I never quite understood how she and Garrett came to be in that situation. It seemed there was almost no communication of a personal nature between them before the wedding. But that doesn't jibe with Katy's personality. The Katy we see in the book would have darn well gotten her declaration of love before she married Garrett. So it was hard for me to swallow that Katy would all the sudden freak out after the wedding night. It made Katy look like a total idiot. But once you get past that the book isn't too bad as long as you can handel Garrett's alpha male, condescending attitude.

3-0 out of 5 stars really did not care for the female lead
The writing in this book is usual JAK, but I really had a hard time warming to this character and her unrealistic attitudes.

She is plain-jane Katy Randall. She is cautious, level-headed and a woman on her own two feet, horse-trainer and breeder at her father's expensive ranch.Years ago, she had a crush on the young man her father hired to work in the barn, Garrett Coltrane. His father had lost his ranch through bad management so Garrett is forced to work.

He returns years later, a wealthy man and read to build a life for himself. He sees Katy and the old sparks are there. She is just what he wants as a wife, a partner to build his future - plus she has the blood-blue backgrounds that Garrett wants. She is no vapid miss, but a 28 year old woman who is perfect for his plans.

The book opens with Katy having an attack of bridal jitters, because she over hears to biddies talking about how Garrett married her to give him the breeding background he lacked. As they head to their honeymoon, she gets snappish, sour and very much the pain in the bum.Garrett is not thrilled to find himself in a honeymoon suit that is a cotton-candy pink nightmare. So frilly any man would balk.Even Katy see the room as enough to give anyone cavities just looking at it, but she get mad at him because he does not appreciate it.OH PLEASE!As the time to go to bed nears, Katy has worked herself into a state that when she utters I love You to Garrett and he does not respond that is ready to get a divorce. The next morning she is ready to call the lawyers - even though she admits to herself she really loves him.

I am sorry, Katy is such a PAIN....I just do not enjoy this sort of Katy/MS Hyde personality she suddenly manifests. It really bad character development and it hurts the book from point one.

Its a reprint, so if you must read all of JAK - then try the library or get it used.

4-0 out of 5 stars A typical Jayne Ann Krentz book to enjoy
I have always looked forward to Jayne Ann Krentz's novels andthis one is no exception. It may not have been her best (like GrandPassion) but I still enjoyed it a lot.Garrett Coltrane is JAK's typical hero, a very male person with a chip on his shoulder. He needed to marry Katy Randall to polish up his business image, whereas Katy married him because she loved him. However, Katy had cold feet on the night of the wedding, and suffice to say, both Katy and Garrett had to undergo a period of really getting to know one another.Of course, in the true JAK tradition, there is a mystery to be solved in the process.....An enjoyable read for a free weekend when nobody interrupts me.END ... MAKE THE BREATH CONNECTION -- AND SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of Americans who suffer from asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, or other respiratory ailments? Far too often, people with these illnesses are prescribed medications that only mask symptoms, instead of really treating the underlying condition. If you are among this group, it's time for you to escape this prison and start Breathing Free.

Teresa Hale, founder of the world-renowned Hale Clinic, has created a groundbreaking treatment that can dramatically change the lives of anyone who feels the crippling affect these illnesses can have on their daily lives, in as little as five days. Called the Breath Connection, this revolutionary program is based on more than forty-five years of empirical research, as well as the Buteyko method, which focuses on dysfunctional breathing, or overbreathing, as the cause of more than 200 respiratory diseases.

Breathing Free is complete with line drawings and clear instructions on how to use these simple methods to reestablish normal breathing patterns to prevent and overcome attacks, restore healthy and restful sleep, and reduce the need for medication by up to 60 percent. For the many people who have lived with the struggle of breathing problems, Breathing Free provides hope for relief, better health, and a better life.Amazon.com Review
Asthma kills 6,000 people a year. Respiratory illnesses affectmillions more. According to Teresa Hale, asthmatics and others withrespiratory illnesses are breathing wrong. "We have been led tobelieve that deep breathing is good for us because it increases ouroxygen intake. In fact, the reverse is true. The more we breathe, theless oxygen actually reaches the cells of our bodies," says Hale inBreathing Free: The Revolutionary 5-Day Program to Heal Asthma,Emphysema, Bronchitis, and Other Respiratory Ailments. Herbreathing program, Breath Connection, teaches you to change yourbreathing patterns so that you won't need to wheeze, breathe heavily,or take gulps of air after exertion. Hale promises that five days onthis program will reduce your need for medications, and regularpractice often increases metabolism and leads to weight loss.

Breathing Free gives a self-test to assess your breathing andteaches several techniques to improve it. Hale explains how to adaptthe program for mild, moderate, or severe asthma; emphysema;bronchitis; panic attacks; general health; and children withasthma. She also suggests dietary guidelines.

Hale's program isbased on the work of Konstantin Buteyko of the former Soviet Union. Itis easy to understand, but will take time and effort to master. ButHale says you have a choice: "Stay where you are, with your daydreamsand your deteriorating health, or take control and make some effort toeffect permanent change." Hale founded Britain's renowned Hale Clinic, whose clients have included Princess Diana, the Duchess of York, TinaTurner, Richard Gere, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Headache relief with understanding
Debilitating headaches and nothing I could do!...until I picked up the book Breathing Free by Teresa Hale of London's Hale Clinic.I wasn't even reading it for myself ... I am not asthmatic; my cardiovascular system is involved. This book thoroughly explains my dilemma and walks me through a solution (the Buteyko Breathing Technique). What's more, I've gone from a CP of 10 to 30 in a short time.I'll have trouble till the culprit ozone (ethanol gas, some air purifiers, etc) is removed from our airspace but my live has been greatly eased.I have never read a more helpful book; thank you Teresa Hale!sl

PS I'm on my third reading :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Breathing Free' by Teresa Hale
This book teaches the reader to use the basics of the Buyteko breathing method to aleviate allergy and asthma symptoms.I already had an understanding of this approach, so implementing the breathing exercises was not difficult. As promised on the cover, I did experience a dramatic change, not in the asthma, but in the allergies. After the first day, my sinus problems cleared up considerably. For the first time in years, I can breath without mucus obstruction.I have tapered off two allergy medicines already. In fact, I did not know I had so many sinus issues until I did the breathing sets in the book.My lack of improvement in the asthma was not the book's fault.I had been for two years a nose breather and was taping my mouth at night to prevent mouth breathing. This immediately decreases asthma symptoms because the body is expelling less carbon dioxide, a necessary element for good health. However, unless this is accompanied by additional Buyteko exercies, the asthma will eventually worsen again, as mine did.If you are serious about pursuing Buyteko, read this book and find a qualified practitioner who teaches breath holds (also known as "pauses" in the Buyteko world.)Although the reduced breathing or relaxed breathing works for some people, it was not sufficient for me.A slightly more aggressive approach actually speeds along the recovery from asthma. After finding a competent Buyteko teacher at "[...]", the asthma symptoms are gradually subsiding. This book is defintely a good step toward controlling lung issues.

I read this book then recommended to my spouse and daughter who both have breathing problems. My daughter with asthma and spouse with COPD and emphasyma.

They took the reading serious and have been practising the exercises.

The service from Amazon was terrific, came before the time table which was nice.

Thanks for the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Asthma Control Technique
This is an outstanding book!I have been having some asthma symptoms, adult onset, and it was frightening to say the least. With this material I learned a different way of breathing, I learned the connection between panic and anxiety and asthma so as to be less frightened, and I simply feel better.I think everybody should read this, and not just those with asthma or emphysema.I didn't realize that the body won't die from an asthma attack unless medications are being used which alter the body's response to asthma. That fact in itself took a lot of fear out of my breathing difficulties, thus helping me to breathe easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has the actual exercises, some do not
This book has the actual Buteyko exercises, whereas some of the books that talk about the Buteyko method, just tease you and never get around to giving you the exercises (Freedom from Asthma). It also has little pictures and charts to help you be more self-disciplined with the program.I do not know if it works yet, as I've barely started and have severe asthma. I'll write again later. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an imaginative, yet realistic story that will interest many parents of children who have to deal with asthma!
Brave Peter, who was really just an imaginative boy, was pretending to be a knight. He was standing on the castle wall.He held his sword high and was on "lookout for enemies."He quickly spotted a fierce dragon emerging from the woods and he ran through the field, jumped a stream and was ready to confront him.The green winged dragon with steam coming out of his nose was ready for the challenge.Peter suddenly fell to his knees gasping, coughing and wheezing."My Lady," his mother, rushed in with "Puffy," his rescue inhaler. She told him to breathe and said to him, "Brave Peter, I think it's time we visit the doctor."

The doctor, who was told Peter was "chasing dragons," had him blow into a peak flow meter as if he were a "fire-breathing dragon."He coughed and wheezed into the meter. The doctor looked carefully at the meter when he was done and asked Peter when his attacks came on.Naturally they came on when he was building an igloo with the Eskimos, racing his bicycle through the jungle and even later when he took care of the tiger cub.The doctor quickly figured out that "cold weather, cats, and exercise" caused similar problems that he had when he had a virus. The doctor told him that he had asthma.Just what was that and how could he tame that dragon?

This is an imaginative, yet realistic story that will interest many parents of children who have to deal with asthma. This simple, yet appealing story shows how asthma can interfere with the normal everyday activities of a child.I liked the gentle easy way the situation was handled by Peter's mother and the doctor. The diagnosis was based on what the child was saying, his mother's input, and a physical examination. In the back of the book there is a two page, very comprehensive note to parents from Michael Tsangaris, M.D., Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Indian University School of Medicine. He is a Pediatric Pulmonologist and his input into this book was excellent and reassuring. ... Product Description

It's a world we barely see, but it is teeming with life. In the dust of a typical house, carpet beetles, mites, silverfish, and other creatures live and die, producing new generations every few months. Mold, bacteria, and yeast lurk undetected in heating and cooling systems. Debris dispersed into the air from these organisms can cause runny noses, itchy eyes, coughing, headaches, and breathing difficulties. Some people, especially those made highly sensitive by allergies, suffer from devastating health problems and the worry that, as one such sufferer lamented, "My house is killing me!"

Scrutinizing house dust and air samples with a microscope, indoor air quality expert Jeffrey C. May has spent his career helping people identify what's causing their chronic health problems. In My House Is Killing Me! he draws on the dramatic personal stories of his clients' suffering and relief to help readers understand the links between environmental factors and problems like allergies and asthma. Explaining how air conditioning, finished basements, and other home features affect air quality, he offers a step-by-step approach to identifying, controlling, and often eliminating the sources of indoor pollutants and allergens. If we could see this contamination, May observes, the air would look as murky as stagnant water, and we would know not to breathe it.

Reading My House Is Killing Me! lets you see your house the way an expert would. Just as he looks at spaces and systems during an indoor air quality investigation, May focuses first on the areas of daily life (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen), then looks into attics and basements (including heating and air conditioning), and finally moves outside to the garage and the exterior of a home. Along with offering a wealth of practical advice and proven solutions for various problems, he includes a glossary of terms and a list of valuable resources.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful advice and usable reference
The funny thing about the book is that the title sounds very alarmist. And while it does tell a few horror stories, most of the book is about providing information. It is far less sensationalistic than the title implies. I read it first as an education about air quality. Then we used it to recommend solutions in an air quality crisis. Now I use it mainly as a reference guide when I have a question and can't remember something.

I originally purchased this book a few years ago when I was having problems with allergies and found problems with the HVAC system in our home. Thanks to implementing key parts of his advice, our air quality significantly improved as evidenced by our health issues subsiding. We were spending time at doctors offices weekly or every other week. After we fixed some of the problems in our house (using the book's advice), we found ourselves rarely at the doctor (a few times per year). No more ear tubes for the kids either (we had gone through 4 sets already).

I have lent this book and recommended this book to friends. We recently moved and find ourselves needing to make minor changes to improve the air quality in our new (yet older) home. This book is a great reference----I break it out and remind myself what things to consider and where problems can occur (as well as ways to solve the problems).

As an added bonus, it helps to be better educated about air quality when dealing with HVAC, insulation, and other service professionals----you can select the companies more effectively, and make decisions more easily. How often can one book help out in all those ways?Great book.Worthwhile purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas for Reducing Household Allergens and Chemicals
May's book offers helpful tips to reduce exposure to allergens and chemicals throughout your home. He reminds you to check places that are often overlooked, such as the drain pan under the refrigerator, the drain pan for your A/C unit, and duct work. Something as simple as your old couch might be the trigger for many symptoms. This book is a good start for someone who wants to try anything they can to reduce their chemical and allergen load.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - a must have to buy an older house!
I bought this book a couple of years ago when I started my house hunting. It has helped me tremendously - especially it opened my eyes to most of the typical problems that older houses have in the area I am living in. As a result, I avoided many problematic houses/deals. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to buy a house in New England area!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Refrence
This book has been used as a refrence guide once we found we had mold in the house. When we called up several companies to get quotes we knew what to ask, which equipment they should use, how they should go about cleaning etc.

It helped us make a better choice, make sure we weren't wasting our money and get informed about the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read if you have allergies
This book has certainly opened our eyes as to what allergens can exist that one would never dream were in their home. It is so totally awesome and explicit with explainations. It's a must read for anybody who has known allergies or even suspects possible allergies. It will surprise you what can be causing your health issues. The culprit may be allergens in your home, in your yard, in your vehicle. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NAET works - IF you treat to 100% clear on an allergen, not 50%...
NAET can clear even the worst allergies, and help relieve your asthma, if done correctly.

It can happen quickly, or if your allergies were as bad as my son's, it may take some time. The self-help methods in the books work if your allergies are moderate to mild, if you cannot clear them yourself using these methods, then you are probably below 45% clear on those items, and you should see a practitioner.I have learned to do full treatments myself, even on the really bad allergens, just from reading Dr. Devi's books, and Cutler's books, and combining that info. with what I've learned from the two practitioners I've gone to, and the four I spoke with. The practitioners are not permitted to give you all the info. on how it works, and the books do not give you all the "secrets" either, but if you investigate it enough, you can piece it together. (Here are some hints:It's more than just holding it and stimulating the points down the back. It's more than the holding/waiting period and avoidance time, which are essential - there are different levels that need to be checked and cleared on as well.) This is probably mostly for liability reasons, because people with anaphylactic tendencies should not attempt to do those allergens on their own.Just holding the item could invoke an allergic response, and practitioners know how to get around this safely.

If you get only partially clear on an item, and are still below 50% on it, it can actually make your allergies seem worse temporarily. This is called being "stuck on a treatment".You need to go back and finish clearing it the rest of the way. Once you clear an item all the way, you will feel great. Being "stuck on a treatment" usually does not happen on mild allergies, because you are essentially doing a "booster".It does not hurt you to try to clear allergens on your own, but you may need the help of a GOOD practitioner - some are better than others.

When my son and I first started receiving NAET treatments, we were going to a practitioner that didn't get us all the way clear, but we saw enough change to know that there was definitely something to it.I have since switched to a different practitioner, one who does percentages - this makes all the difference in the world!!She is also an RN, so is more familiar with severe allergic reactions, so I trust her more.It is possible to get a strong"ish" muscle test reading when you are at least 50% clear on something, but you may still have problems with the item until you get at least 70% or more clear. (Dr. Devi even says something about this in the patient handbook.) My practitioner treats to 100% on all items, and we are so much better now. (Some practitioners only treat to 50-60%, you may want to switch to another, or self-treat to clear it the rest of the way.)If you can learn to do it at home, like I did, it can really speed up the process.

My 8 yr old son who has been home schooled his whole life due to his severe food allergies, some foods he could not even touch... is now enrolled to attend a charter school this coming fall. This has been an answer to prayer for us in a major way!It works, if you get the right practitioner. We were better on some things, and worse on others until we found someone who would get us all the way clear on the allergens we had.My son has been able to re-introduce apples, chicken, watermelon, oranges, salad, vinegar, many other foods, and even some candy for the holidays. He was also allergic to some of his medications that seemed to make him worse when he used them. Now that he's been cleared on them, he can use them, and gets the full benefit from them.(We are hoping to eliminate the medications all together eventually.) He also used to get welts when cat hair even touched him, but was able to play with a cat for over 20 minutes the other day with no reaction what so ever.We are thrilled!

Some people have asked me how much the practitioners charge. Some are more expensive than others. Our first practitioner was $45 per treatment per person, but our practitioner we are going to now (that we feel does a better job) is only $20 per treatment, $40 for families of four or more seen at same time. There are still others that charge even more. Our current practitioner treats out of her "home-office", so has lower overhead, but she gives a better treatment in our opinion. She is also open to us doing home treatments, and follows up on the ones I have done to make sure they have cleared all the way.

Don't give up, keep trying, and find a good practitioner who knows how to treat you to 100% clear.I am not a practitioner, but I can answer questions based on my experience, or even ask my practitioner on your behalf. Please no junk mail, but for real quesitons, you can e-mail me at rnshormann@yahoo.com. 1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, there are better books out there with the Butekyo method actually in them
I was extremely disappointed, as this book only talks about the Buteyko method and never really gets around to giving you the actual exercises.I felt it should tell you that in the description, because it comes up as one of the first in the searches for Buteyko, but doesn't have the exercises in it.Your money is better spent on the books with the explanations as well as the exercises, such as Teresa Hale's Breathing Free, which I picked up at my local library. It has little pictures and charts, etc., which help you be more self-disciplined - which following the program requires. I'm not sure if it works yet, as I've only done the exercises 3 times on different days, which you are supposed to do them 3X a day, but intuitively, I would say that it probably does.I have severe asthma. I'll write another review and let you know. I've never written reviews, but felt this was important since someone could die waiting for another book, and people with serious health problems don't have money to waste...I know.

3-0 out of 5 stars No exercises - read Asthma Free naturally for them
I was a chronic asthmatic and the principles enshrined in this book are excellent. The only way that I solved my asthma was to address my overbreathing. This books tells you just that. One downside is that it does not contain the exercises. I have came across two books which do. These are asthma free naturally and Close Your mouth. They are little gems and contain all the information that you need to know. In fact Asthma free is the best book that I have ever read for asthma. It offers a solice of hope and has helped my quality of life improve significantly
in the past while.

Stalmatskis book is good, Asthma free or the more simpler Close Your Mouth are excellent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't exsplain how to do the excercises
This Book is a good supplement for information on Buteyko, but you will not learn how to do the breathing excercises from this book.I downloaded the James Hooper manual from here http://www.nqnet.com/catalog/paypal.html and after practicing Buteyko for a month, I am asthma free. I even scored 100% lung function on my test yesterday. It was only 60% three months ago. My doctor was amazed and even asked me to give him more information on Buteyko. It really does work, but you won't get the basics on how to preform the excercises from this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another breakthrough exposing the medical establishment
This book was very helpful in eliminating my exercise induced asthma. The principles and theory are very valid. I have been suffering from insomnia and mild asthma for many years and I do not like to take drugs if I can avoid it. I was also diagnosed as having sleep apnea and treated for that condition though without lasting results. This book shows why asthma develops in people and how you can control it and then cure it without any drugs. The only reason I gave the book four stars was the fact that this book does not spell out the actual 5-day treatment so I went and bought the book 'Breathing Free' by Teresa Hale. With the help of that book, I could administer the treatment to myself at home and saw some remarkable improvements in my sleep and a complete disappearance of my wheezing during running!! I also lost some weight! I highly recommend both books. I am actually consulting with the the author for a fee to continue my application of the treatment program for maximum and long-lasting results. I start to wonder why our medical establishment seem to prefer expensive drug therapies for everything when there are so many simple and non-invasive treatments out there. Could the drug companies be involved in this attitude ? I wonder.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you have asthma, read this book!
I picked up this book for a dollar on the sale table at Barnes & Noble.I've had asthma since I was 3.I've been on inhalers for 25 years.I've been hospitalized twice, have had heart palpitations and other nastyside effects of asthma and inhalers.Sure, I want to be free fromasthma!

The ideas in this book sounded crazy when I first read them. Asthma is the result of too MUCH breathing?Carbon dioxide is important, and too little of it causes asthma and other diseases?I think I actuallylaughed out loud when I read the first few chapters. Then I kept reading. And the ideas started making sense.

This book doesn't give you a lot ofpractical exercises to work with; it seems to be more an overview of what'staught in the Breathing Connection seminars. That's why I gave it 4 starsinstead of 5.But the book does give you enough practical information toimprove your own breathing.Breathe less--less deeply and less often. Breathe through your nose.Be consistent with just those two principlesand you will see improvement.Although they're counterintuitive, relax andpractice them when you feel your asthma kicking in and don't be surprisedif oncoming symptoms go away.In 3 days I've cut my bronchodilator use inhalf, I sleep through the night and my heart rate has dropped from 120 to60."Freedom from Asthma" also covers diet, exercise, and anumber of other areas where you can improve your health by improving yourbreathing.Nothing too deep, but helpful nonetheless.

I just finishedthis book today and tomorrow I'm getting Teresa Hale's book.I'm new tothis but hopeful."Freedom from Asthma" is far from thorough, but it's a good start. If you've been looking for freedom from asthma, youmay find it in the principles described here. ... Read more

Imagery designed to help reduce swollen linings in the lungs, dissolve mucous, and loosen tightened muscle bands in the airways; to help neutralize the histamine response in the mast cells; to reduce anxiety; to help the listener feel more cushioned. Side B is affirmations. (Running time: 46 minutes)

Keywords: asthma, allergies, upper respiratory infection, lung diseaseAmazon.com Review
There is no one right way to go with Belleruth Naparstek on a journey, no one right way to "visualize." That may sound too basic a directive, but Naparstek encourages listeners to linger over any given image or rearrange her words and phrases into something that works more effectively.Belleruth Naparstek's voice is at once soothing and deep; the pace of her presentation offers ample time in which to follow the instructions and "see" the images suggested in this deeply relaxing, healing inner journey.

People undergoing chemotherapy can expect from this tape the familiar components of guided imagery--the deep relaxation, engaged senses, detached awareness--and healing images that work to alleviate the suffering associated with chemo. The profound imagining on the part of the listener reaches "all the way to the bone; into each and every cell, cleansing and clearing." Part of the tape's purpose is to bring the listener to believe in his or her own healing.

Guided imagery, though not a substitute for medical treatment, has shown that using the mind in this way helps alleviate pain and boost the immune system. There is no doubt that Belleruth Naparstek's beautiful voice, combined with the deep musical tones that provide the background "music" and the rich, nourishing, 20-minute experience of guided imagery, has a profound impact on body and soul. ... Product Description

Maimonides, one of the most celebrated rabbis in the history of Judaism, was a prolific author of influential Arabic philosophical and medical treatises as well as two of the most important works on Jewish law. Presented here as a companion to the English translation and Arabic text of the first volume, On Asthma, Volume Two offers Gerrit Bos’s critical editions of all three surviving medieval Hebrew translations of Maimonides’ work: one allegedly prepared by the fourteenth-century physician Samuel Benveniste, who served Don Manuel, brother of King Pedro IV of Aragon; a second by Joshua Shatibi from Játiva (Xátiva) between the years 1379 and 1390, for the referendary Fernán Díaz of Toledo at the court of King Juan II of Castile; and a third by an anonymous translator, perhaps in the thirteenth century.  The volume also contains critical editions by Michael R. McVaugh of the two medieval Latin translations of Maimonides’ treatise, one probably made by Giovanni da Capua at Rome c. 1300 and the other begun by Armengaud Blaise in Montpellier in 1294 but completed eight years later. It concludes with a section of addenda and corrigenda to the first volume.

Product Description
Evaluation and diagnosis of obstructive lung disease call for careful history taking to distinguish asthma from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A history of atopy and intermittent, reactive symptoms points toward a diagnosis of asthma, whereas smoking and advanced age are more indicative of COPD. Clinical features such as cough and wheezing, especially in light of patient history, can be suggestive but are not definitive. Spirometry, usually performed in the primary care setting, is the key diagnostic tool that distinguishes patients with asthma from patients with COPD. In this article, the authors outline an approach to differential diagnosis of asthma and COPD that should result in better evaluation, therapy, and quality of life for these patients. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a pleasure to read and breathe better
I had the good fortune to study with Dr. Bernard Jensen in 1980. He introduced natural cures used along with iridology, the study of the eyes for diagnosis. His careful concern for his patients, his delightful personality and wealth of information on natural treatments including foods, herbs, and exercise can be found in all his books.

He himself lived to his mid 90s in good health and with a positive, optimistic healing message: protect your health with God's natural treasures.

Breathe Again Naturally is easy to read and apply to daily life. The information about clearing toxins and catarrh from the body is vital now more than ever in our time of pollution, flu, SARS, asthma, and people who smoke.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book! It has been my guide back to health.
This book has helped me tremendously with my lifelong problem with asthma and allergies. My copy is well worn from the many times I have desperately searched and reasearched it when I have been very sick. It is a book of much common sense, humor, and integrity. The author himself suffered from aterrible lung disease in his youth , and this helps him to write withinsight, understanding and compassion. He writes that asthma is a mucusproblem, and stongly suggests and list foods to eliminate from the dietthat aggravate this condition. He also says that often asthmatic peoplehave acidic bodies and need alkaline foods. Dr. Jensen places greatemphasis on mental attitude in helping to overcome asthma, as it is oftenaggravated by stress. There are some great case histories in the back ofthe book, so you will not feel alone with your problems. Jensen also givesexercise suggestions which are tailored for those with varying physicalcapacities. Jensen lists many good herbs to make tea from that arebeneficial for asthma, bronchitis, and colds. I highly recommend thisheartfelt and inexpensive book to anyone who has these problems. ... Read more
