Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy is a treatment approach for families that have children with symptoms of emotional disorders, including Complex Trauma and disorders of attachment. It was originally developed by psychologist Daniel Hughes as an intervention for children whose emotional distress resulted from earlier separation from familiar caregivers. Hughes cites attachment theory and particularly the work of John Bowlby as theoretical motivations for dyadic developmental psychotherapy. However, other sources for this approach may include the work of Stern, who referred to the attunement of parents to infants' communication of emotion and needs, and of Tronick, who discussed the process of communicative mismatch and repair, in which parent and infant make repeated efforts until communication is successful. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars No reason to buy this.
This is indeed a collection of FREE Wiki articles. Let's say that instead of buying this book you can as well do an accurate search on Wikipedia or on the internet-at-large. I bought this book because I was interested in the subject; didn't paid too much attention to the fact that the entries are on the internet already because I was enthusiastic on finding something that I thought would be more focused on dyadic developmental therapy. Surprise, the content wasn't that focused on the matter, it is merely a collection of basic topics on the history of attachment and some basic on the later developments of the theory. It is written in very small characters (barely readable), so you better buy a magnifier if you still want to buy this.

Unfortunately, in the Amazon description I couldn't figure out I was going to buy such a "messy" book. The "look inside this book" feature doesn't show too clear the size of the characters and other printing characteristics, so I couldn't figure that, besides the fact that I was paying lots of money for something already offered for free, I was going to make huge efforts to read the content.

I was kind of mad on myself for not paying attention to the details of the book, especially since the price is very high (paid more than 40 USD on it since it's a new entry BUT I strongly advise Amazon to be more careful when Alpha Script Publishing is announcing a new release. For this very high-price you can find on Amazon true-quality books on attachment, not this one. So don't but it and carefully review this publisher before considering buying something from them. I personally believe that even if the cost was 3 dollars or less it's not worth to buy something printed on paper when you can already find it free on the internet. All you need is some patience, a good knowledge on the subject and lots of "green" (save the trees) mentality that will allow you to reconsider some publishers and their offers for Amazon.

Wikpedia itself provides important information that is not included in these books. Interested readers who look at the "discussion" or "talk" feature of Wikipedia articles can see where disagreements about material occurred and how they were resolved. These features often include the opinions or questions of contributors which are not permitted in the article because of the Wiki POV (point of view) guidelines. Where an article has Featured article status, as is the case for one in this book, it can be enlightening to see what discussions and revisions occurred before the FA award was made.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete rip-off
The books from Alphascript Publishing are described as "by John McBrewster, Frederic P. Miller, and Agnes F. Vandome". They are called editors in the book listings. The only content of most of these books is free, re-packaged Wikipedia articles!

It is a rip-off, folks!

The articles are often poorly printed, characters from foreign languages will go missing, and numerous images of arrows instead of linked text that was present in Wikipedia. Just read and print out the original articles for free at the Wikipedia website than pay this ridiculous amount of money for what has been described as a scam or hoax. Advertising for the books at Amazon and elsewhere does not reveal the freely-licensed source of the content. It is only revealed inside the books, AFTER you've been suckered with making a purchase.

As an example of the level of care given to the books, the book "History of Georgia (country)" is about the European country Georgia but has a cover image of Atlanta in the American state of Georgia.

The publisher is hiding out in Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. What does that tell you?

Just do a Google search for "Alphascript Publishing scam", and you'll learn the details. These fraudsters have been caught. Now do your part and shun them, and repeat this review on as many of their thousands of books as you can. ... Read more

Product Description
Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting for another who is not kin and, in so doing, permanently transfers all rights and responsibilities from the original parent or parents. Unlike guardianship or other systems designed for the care of the young, adoption is intended to effect a permanent change in status and as such requires societal recognition, either through legal or religious sanction. Historically some societies have enacted specific laws governing adoption whereas others have endeavored to achieve adoption through less formal means, notably via contracts that specified inheritance rights and parental responsibilities. Modern systems of adoption, arising in the 20th century, tend to be governed by comprehensive statutes and regulations. Adoption has a long history in the Western world, closely tied with the legacy of the Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. Its use has changed considerably over the centuries with its focus shifting from adult adoption and inheritance issues toward children and family creation and its structure moving from a recognition of continuity between the adopted and kin toward allowing relationships of lessened intensity. ... Product Description
Hidden Minds explores a parent's nightmare and society's worst fear: young predators. Children with attachment disorder cannot bond with any human and can fly into fits of rage at the least instigation. The syndrome can often be the result of emotional deprivation in the early weeks of life. Attachment Disorder is observed in adopted and fostered children. However, it can show up in the most nurturing of birth families as well. Some of these children become self-destructive. Others may begin as animal abusers and work their way up to humans. These people always devastate those who try to love them.Dr. Sugar specializes in the treatment of children and adults suffering from attachment disorder. In addition, she focuses upon the needs of the caregivers who suffer so much at the hands of their destructive charges. Using a gentle, one time, holding procedure Dr. Sugar is able to ‘invite’ the unattached child into our world of the attached. ... Read more

Product Description
Attachment parenting, a phrase coined by pediatrician William Sears, is a parenting philosophy based on the principles of the attachment theory in developmental psychology. According to attachment theory, the child forms a strong emotional bond with caregivers during childhood with lifelong consequences. Sensitive and emotionally available parenting helps the child to form a secure attachment style which fosters a child's socio-emotional development and well being. Less sensitive and emotionally available parenting or neglect of the child's needs may result in insecure forms of attachment style, which is a risk factor for many mental health problems. In extreme and rare conditions the child may not form an attachment at all and may suffer from reactive attachment disorder as defined in DSM-IV and ICD-10. Principles of attachment parenting aim to increase development of child's secure attachment and decrease insecure attachment. Although there is research which shows that when mothers are taught to increase their sensitivity to an infant's needs and signals. ... Read more
