1-0 out of 5 stars A complete waste
Take that 10 dollar bill and tuck it back in your wallet. While it may be legal to call 30 pages of text plus some pictures a book, this "book" would be more accurately called a pamphlet.

The author is clearly bitter about his experience. This is understandable, as Bell's Palsy is a difficult experience. However, it's inappropriate for the bitterness to override information in a book people are reading in an effort to help themselves and gain an understanding of the condition.Readers will come away with a distorted view of all aspects - the physical and emotional ends, as well as available treatments and their effectiveness. The author's sources are limited, outdated, and biased.Where there are diverse opinions regarding a potential treatment, only viewpoints conforming with the author's opinions are described or referenced.Readers who accept the information in this book as valid are not only cheating themselves of opportunities for help - they may actually hurt their recovery.

The book may have had small (very small!) value 10 years ago.Today it's worthless. There are several websites with more information, well presented, up to date, and without bias. There are also forums to connect with other people with the same problem.Save your money - go to google.com, punch in "bells palsy" and "bell's palsy" (the results will be different) to learn about this condition!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than useless
When my daughter was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, I went out on the net looking for information, and I ordered this book immediately, hoping to have something helpful to give her. When it arrived, I read it in 20 min (that's how little it has in it) and was appalled at the very negative and one-sided view it gave.80% of BP victims recover completely in 3 weeks to 3 months, yet the 3 case histories he gave were all among the worst of the remaining 20%.There's nothing good here that you can't get from one click on the net, and there is a tremendous amount of discouragement contained in these few pages.
I did NOT give this book to my daughter.I like her too much for that.It would have caused her added trauma with no compensating benefit. Keep this AWAY from BP sufferers. It has no redeeming value.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
When ordering this book i had high expectations, i was hoping to be able to use the information contained within to help my gf deal with this viral based infection.

Unfortunately when i received the book in the mail I was extrememly dissapointed. The book is barely 30 pages long if you take the illustrations aside and contains a few case histories, that serve nothing but to worry the reader. Since these are extreme cases, and do not reflect the average Pells Palsy sufferer.

The rest of the information provides some substancial information and is a decent summary of what someone can do to prevent the infection from worsening or causing eye damage (more or less keep your eye moist) unfortunately this information is available freely.

This book, should be considered more as a pamphlet, and is dissapointing for the fact that you're expecting so much more, and it takes less than 10 minutes to read.

I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on this. Instead consult your family doctor, keep your eye moist and well protected using eye drops, and please, do not ignore your illness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surviving Bell"s Palsy
Being diagnosed right before Christmas, made my world come to a halt.I seeked medical help, went for many MRI's, C-Scans and felt the doctors knew less them me.They were not encouraging and if it was not for the Bell's Palsy website, and this book I don't know how I would have SURVIVED.This book was truthful, helpful and informative. It also showed that the 3 stories of people suffering with this affliction, were like ME.I was not alone. They felt what I felt, and people who do not know what Bell's Palsy is, and how it effects you emotionally, as well as physically will never understand how this can be very devestating to a newly diagnosed person.I definitely recommend this book to BP suffers and their families.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Summary Available
...I was surprised to find that I didn't see the author as being the least bit negative. I found his approach generally dispassionate, fair, and objective -- although he did, from time to time, interject his personal opinion in a very subjective way. I was pleased with the list of source materials at the end of the book, but wished he had used footnotes or parenthetical references to show where he used these sources in his text. Considering that Dambach is writing about a disorder of uncertain origin and no known effective treatment, he has done a remarkable job gathering all the truths, half-truths, and fictions. I'm lucky. After 3 weeks with Bell's palsy, I am about 90% recovered. I've seen a family practice physician, a chiropractor, and a physical therapist. Dambach's best advice is "Use your common sense because this disease will usually clear up in a relatively short period of time without any treatments" -- a rather positive statement for a man who has never completely recovered from his two bouts with Bell's. For a non-life-threatening ailment, Bell's palsy is surprisingly frightening, discouraging, and depressing. Thank you, Mr. Dambach, for offering a sane, concise discussion. ... Read more
