How to Conquer the World with One Hand...And an Attitude
Best "help" book I've read since my 33 year old son had a stroke.Couldn't put the book down and was amazed at how many similar things that we had gone through--AWESOME read for any young person who had a stroke or their caregivers.

It gave me hope!
My father is much older than Paul when he suffered his stroke in December of 2000.My father's stroke was very severe and has left him totally paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak or effectively communicate in any manner, which is the same side and conditions that Paul suffered.This book gave me hope that some day my 78-yr. old father may be able to communicate on some level.All speech therapy has been stopped for my father, but after reading this book and seeing what 8 years of therapy has done for Paul, my family is looking into our options once again.I can think of nearly nothing worse than being able to understand most of what is being said around you and not being able to communicate back.People with aphasia are essentially trapped within their own body.Thanks, Paul for having the courage to move forward with your life and to tell your story.It truly gave me hope!!

What an attitude!He must be from Philly.
I admit, I am also from Philly, and nobody messes with us. Paul wouldn't accept any diagnosis other than a life that was interesting and fulfilling.It's remarkable how he struggled to get back his body. It's a funny uplifting book that should give inspiration to other head trauma victims. (Anda nice reminder to the rest of us.)Paul and Stephanie have written about regaining a lifestyle they enjoyed in spite of new disablities. The book, TORREY'S MIRACLE - A MATTER OF CHOICE, is the story of the Morse family's journey of finding good health for their daughter, Torrey.Torrey was diagnosed with "diffuse histiocytic lymphoma," in 1978 when she was eight years old.This cancer is an adult, aggressive cancer, rare in children.TORREY'S MIRACLE tells the story, beginning with Torrey's diagnosis of cancer, the starting of a traditional chemo/radition treatment, stopping this very painful and debilitating treatment, finding an alternative treatment, and ending with the successful treatment of "Immune Augmentation Therapy" at the IAT Clinic in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island.Torrey is now a healthy, happy, functional adult of 31 years.Much of the book is taken directly from the diary Margaret Morse kept while she and Torrey were at the Clinic. There is a history, development of the treatment, follow-up and how things are today. Margaret gives credit and appreciation to all those who helped the family on its journey.

A "must read" for prostrate cancer patients!
As a prostrate cancer patient, I found "New Guidelines for Surviving Prostrate Cancer" to be extremely informative. It's unique presentation by the authors is direct and, at the same time, compassionate. It is unlike any other text of its kind! I was able to make a more informed decision as to the most appropriate therapy in my case. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the options for surviving prostrate cancer.

Fantastic for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients!
As with the lady above, this book helped me after my diagnosis.My surgeon presented me with the most conservative treatment(lumpectomy, radiation, possible chemotherapy) but gave me the book at the end of the visit.I pored over this book for the weekend and came to the conclusion that the most conservative treatment was not for me.Gives pros and cons of each treatment option and who is best suited for that particular option.Wonderful book.I passed it on to my friends, one of whom is now in the process of making her own decisions, unfortunately.Because she had already seen this book and had time to think about what she wanted rather than waiting until diagnosis, she knew exactly how she wanted to handle her disease.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READING FOR ALL WOMEN!

Help for the hard choices - breast cancer reconstruction.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had many questions aboutreconstruction.My surgeons gave me the alternatives and left the decisionto me.I needed help.Help came from the women who stepped forward to"show" the results of their reconstruction decisions and fromthis book with its frank and openly presented pictures, personal storiesand explanations.Thank you to the authors!I found that even though I am"more than my breasts", I appreciated being presented with allthe sides/choices in the reconstruction question. Yes, Chronic pain is real and hurts you in many ways, how to cope.
There comes a time in many people's lives where chronic pain happens for many reasons. It is depressing.You have pain, a lot. No one wants to listen to you talk about it. Despite the title, Healing Pain does not focus on relieving physical pain. This book looks beyond the physical aspects of pain into the often hidden aspects of emotional suffering associated with chronic pain. The author, a pain management specialist, reflects that chronic pain, be it from cancer, fibromyalgia, or an acute injury that never fully healed, have some very specific things in common. The most significant of these aspects is the overall emotional toll that it takes on the individual and his or her family. The nature of chronic pain, depression, guilt, and concerns over potential addictions to pain medicines are just a few of the very important topics discussed in this book. "Healing Pain" delivers.I'm ordering copies for a family member who has MS; an attorney friend specializing in elder law, many of whose clients deal with chronic pain; and a friend studying for the Episcopal priesthood who has already served as a hospital chaplain, meeting many patients coping with pain.These friends don't have time or energy for reading books that come up empty.This one looked promising, based on the author's credentials as an oncologist specializing in pain management.It turns out that she's had cancer herself.On many levels, and in the most personal way, she knows what she's talking about.There are real answers here.
