5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is an excellent book.It can help you if you have cancer or if you just want to eat healthy and follow a healthy lifestyle. It is very well written and very knowledgeable information.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read"
I am an 8 year breast cancer survivor that had been given 6 months to live. The side effects of the Chemo and Radiation were by far worse than the treatments.I sought the help of a few local holistic advisors to combat the effects of the treatments. They provided me with a lot of the same information detailed in this book. The content seems radical, but it worked for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great little book!
I have been buying this book for years, I give it to anyone I know that has cancer. It's informative and easy to read and the fact that it was written by a cancer survivor makes all the difference in the world.Plus, I agree with her logic about battling cancer.Gives the reader things that he/she can do to fight it.It's also good to read for prevention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied.
I recieved this product very quickly. This book was in great condition and I am very happy with this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth its weight in diamonds!!!
Fortunate are those who have stumbled across this book in their search for health, cures or detoxification. This book should be compulsory reading at every high school, medical school and pharmaceutical company.I always like to follow those people who have established by example what they propound in their writings.

This marvellous book is a first hand account of a courageous woman in her mid thirties, a wife and young mother of two children under 10 yrs of age, who placed her full faith in the medical establishment to diagnose her and heal her.It starts out with the horrific pain that started to spring up in different parts of her body. The family phsyician repeatedly misdiagnosed these aches and pains and declared them to be resulting from bursitis, kidney infection etcMeanwhile she continued to be bed ridden thinking that the doctor was right. As it later turned out that throughout these months of misdiagnosis her breast cancer was actually spreading to her skull, spine and the pelvic region. It was virulent enough to fracture her spine. So much for modern medicine and its "know all" attitude about providing a correct diagnosis.Next, they removed both, her breasts, pumped her with chemicals during chemotherapy through three tubes entering her chest, fried her with radiation until her skin had turned black, all to no avail. These barbaric means were unable to stop the cancer from spreading. As a last resort they tried a bone marrow transplant. At the end of which they asked her to leave for home "to die", as she describes it.

So she went home alright, not to die, but to live! With help of a nutritionist she made a complete change to her food intake. She bought a juicer and started consuming raw juices of vegetables and fruits. She also started multiple enemas and colon irrigations each day.All these techniques were part of her comprehensive plan to detoxify, something that is completely unknown to modern medicine. After 5 weeks of doing this, she went to the oncologist for a check up.To his complete surprise he found that the cancer had left without a trace! In 5 weeks of adapting a raw living food diet, she was was able to accomplish what the entire medical establishment was unable to do with bills totalling $350,000. So much for modern medicine and its brutal means of treatment.

One would think that her story would run on TV cable channels 24/7.However, that will never happen. There is no money to be made by pushing a juicer, fresh fruit and veggies, colon irrigation equipment and such means. It goes completely against the goals of the American Medical Association and Big Pharmaceuticals.Instead of studying such cases in depth and introducing courses on detoxification, colon cleansing and such in medical schools, the medical establishment conveniently marginalizes them and labels them as "anecdotal" and "unscientific".One could care less if they were anecdotal and unscientific as long as they work! One would think that they warrant thorough investigation for purposes of duplication, based upon their tremendous success. However, I wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen andytime soon.

Whenever anyone is first diagnosed with such a terminal condition, they willingly put themselves into the hands of the physician and the medical system with full faith in their knowledge and ability to cure. However, this story of Anne fully establishes the error in such an assumption.

Even though I do not have cancer or any diagnosed chronic condition or degnerative disease, upon reading her story I knew right away that whatever methods she employed, had to be very powerful because they worked where the best of modern medicine had failed abysmally.I then searched for a colon cleanse program to follow for myself.I set about to do a tissue cleanse through bowel management as described in Dr. Bernard Jensen's book in chapter 5 of:
Dr. Jensen's Guide to Better Bowel Care: A Complete Program for Tissue Cleansing through Bowel Management

I was very successful with Dr. Jensen's program. It improved my health dramatically in a week.It also made me a firm believer in detoxification and colon cleansing. From this I set out to learn about various other means of detoxification. Now I am investigating other means of detoxifying various organs throughout the body.

Here is another success story on cancer cure using alternate methods:
How I Conquered Cancer Naturally

Here is another very comprehensive book on cancer therapy along the lines of natural healing:
The Gerson Therapy: The Proven Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other Illnesses

Here is an excellent book on Wheatgrass therapy:
Wheatgrass Nature's Finest Medicine: The Complete Guide to Using Grasses to Revitalize Your Health

The big hoopla about the search for a miracle cancer cure is all a lot of eyewash on the part of big pharama and medical establishment. They are looking in all the wrong places while the people continue to suffer and die!Its all about making the maximum amount of money from the hard earned life's savings of the terminal patients.Modern medicine is not only ineffective, but also heartless and very greedy.

For anyone reading this review, I would very heartily recommend the above books.Other very enlightened authors on this matter are Dr. Ann Wigmore, Dr. Max Gerson, Ray Kordich (the "Juiceman"), Steve Meyerowitz (the "Sproutman"), Dr. Norman Walker and many others. Some of them have themselves made a comeback from cancer, and are therefore the perfect candidates to speak or write on the matter.

For me the combaination of a raw living food lifestyle, coupled with colon irrigations and yoga, is producing incredible results. This after decades of suffering with not even a conclusive diagnosis from physicians, much less a cure!

Product Description
Mr. Griffin marshals the evidence that cancer is a deficiency disease like scurvy or pellagra aggravated by the lack of an essential food compound in modem mans diet. That substance is vitamin B17. In its purified form developed for cancer therapy, it is known as Laetrile.

Why has orthodox medicine waged war against this non drug approach? The author contends that the answer is to be found, not in science, but in politics and is based upon the hidden economic and power agenda of those who dominate the medical establishment.

This is a new edition of the book. It is the most complete and authoritative treatise ever produced on Laetrile. It explains the theory by which Laetrile is believed to work. Case histories are included. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars book is as advertised.delivery was slow.
The book arrived about a week AFTER it was supposed to.The web site had said something about an issue with the packing?I'm not really certain what it meant.Either way, when the book arrived, it was as advertised.I don't know if the seller knew anything about the issue, so I can't fault them, they may not have known that this happened.Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars It might only save your life
Well written, reasoned, impeccable research. Mr. Griffin has certainly done his homework. As a kidney cancer surgery survivor I was told there is no way to figure out what might have caused it, or how to prevent a return of another cancerous growth. Finding this an unacceptable level of incompetence coming from our trusted medical establishment, I am glad I discovered this information.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book may save the life of someone you know
after I read this book, I order a Hunza apricot tree online and planted it. I can't wait till I start chomping down on some delicious apricot kernels rich in nitroglycerides!

This book lays it out so simply. If you have cancer, you are severely deficient in b17.

If you or a loved one has cancer I highly recommend this and/or Gerson therapy. If your body hasn't already been damaged by orthodox medicine or chemo then I have full faith that you will recover.

YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars A reference !
Excellent book on an amazing and controversial subject. Well researched and documented, well written by Griffin who masters well the narration of both sides of the subject: first and foremost, the scientific and empirical background of of the Laetrile, vitaminB17, which is well documented and really convincing. Secondly, Griffin gives a really frightening and well sought portray of the medical industry and the cancer mafia ruled by big pharma, FDA and ACS in the States.
I read a few books on the subject, this one is by far the reference on the subject, other books also cover other alternate cures / preventions for cancer and B17 is just a part of the other books as this book covers exclusively that particular topic.

I lost 6 family members to cancer and orthodox obsolete treatments and I wish I was aware of this information a few years back as it may have provided a life saving environment for some of relatives. I and my wife are on a preventive supplemental B17 intake, which with an appropriate diet (including apple and apricot seeds and more alkaline food) should hopefully provide us with a cancer free end of our lives... future will tell.

This book is worth every single minute of reading, and is also entertaining in the difficult task of getting such a heavy message across. Well done and thank you for this great work Mr Griffin, respect all the way for you and your life long work fort the truth to prevail...

5-0 out of 5 stars If you live on this planet, this book is for you
If you're a man, you have 44 % chance of getting cancer. If you're a woman, you have 38 % probability. If you won't get cancer, you can be sure some of your family members or friends will. So THIS BOOK IS DEFINITIVELY FOR YOU !

Cancer is an epidemic but governments don't care. You don't see it on the news all the time the same way when some exotic kind of influenza breaks out on which some pharmaceutical company can make some bucks. Officially, President Nixon declared the War on Cancer in 1971, but reality is that cancer since then increased 24 %...

In the meantime, the petrochemical industry continues producing carcinogenic pesticides, but they aren't blamed. You, yeah YOU, get the blame, with your "unhealthy lifestyle". But then again, you aren't being well informed. Dr. Samuel Epstein sees it as follows : "Consumer product legislation is well overdue. All foods grown with the application of carcinogenic pesticides should be clearly labeled with a cancer warning, the name of each carcinogenic pesticide, and the concentrations of its residues". The FDA couldn't care less. They pretend "pesticides residues are safe for consumers". Literally. See FDA Fact Sheet July, 1971 ("Nutrition Nonsense - And Sense").

The good news, however, is that this book gives you the cure for cancer. No kidding. It is called vitamin B17 ! Ever heard of it ? I doubt so. I didn't either, before reading this book. I thought vitamin B stopped at B12. Didn't you also ? Wrong. Vitamin B17 AND vitamin B15 have been discovered in the 50's. And vitamin B17 - present in apricot seeds - is being consumed by the Hunza, the longest living people on earth, to their great benefit, with an average life expectancy of more than 85 years. Far better than our "modern civilization" is capable of. A lot of Hunza get well beyond 100 years. They appreciate and eat the apricot seeds to their great delight.

This book will explain you the exact way B17 works against cancer cells, as an intelligent missile, leaving healthy cells untouched. Now, you will be thinking, like me, before I bought this book, why the industry is not selling this "cure for cancer". The author goes great lengths explaining why the industry isn't interested in this treatment. One of the essential points is that vitamin B17 is present in *apricot seeds*. How on earth do you think this can be patented ? A vitamin ! It is impossible. Nothing to make money on here. More money can be made on continuing the "search for the cure for cancer". Like the author says : more people make a living on cancer than people are dying from cancer...

The author describes also a lot of tests that have proven the effectiveness of this therapy. What most convinced me was the story of some doctors working with this therapy. Some have been officially accused of "quackery", like Dr. John Richardson. He was arrested on June 2, 1972, but dismissed two years later. Then the FDA - yeah, the same guys you think are protecting you and your health - tried another strategy, and went through his files of patients, trying to find some dissatisfied patients. Are you always happy with your doctor ? I doubt so. So, their plan was to convince one or two of his dissatisfied patients to instigate lawsuits against the doctor - WITH THE GOVERNMENT COVERING ALL LEGAL COSTS ! Now, what happened was that they weren't able to find a single patient dissatisfied with his treatment. NOT A SINGLE ONE ! I would love to have this doctor in my neighborhood, wouldn't you ? Finally, they got him on the accusation of "conspiracy to smuggle", took away his medical license, and obliged him to go to Mexico to continue his treatment of cancer patients. America, land of the free ? Think again.

Dr. John Richardson, while still able to operate his clinic, helped more than 4.000 people. In Laetrile Case Histories (The Richardson Cancer Clinic Experience) he tells the stories of 62 people with different types of cancers that he cured.

Dr. Philip Binzel cured about 400 cancer patients. He also wrote about his experiences in Alive and Well: One Doctor's Experience With Nutrition in the Treatment of Cancer Patients.

Both books are perfect complements to this one.

To all this I can also add a personal experience. The mother of a friend was diagnosed with cancer in July 2009, and had metastasis all over her body.My friend prohibited explicitly to all doctors the use of chemotherapy, since she had already three of her family members having died very soon after having undergone this "treatment".So I told her about this natural treatment with vitamin B17, and she enthusiastically agreed. In January 2010, a new scan of her mother was taken and she is totally free of cancer ! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great
The book I recieved was in perfert condition. I've already tried a couple of recipes, which I enjoyed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is a GREAT book.It would be the most helpful for a cancer patient at the beginning of treatment, as it gives very helpful tips, advice, and things to be prepared for during chemo or radiation. I didn't get this book until after six months of chemo and had to learn about much of the book's recommendations on my own. Even so the recipes are very helpful, mostly healthy and easy, and divided into specific areas of treatment effects. I recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook
Have always loved Betty Crocker, this book is fantastic with the simple, tasty and nutritious recipes.Love it!

It's got a lot of nutrition information, which is useful to anybody that cares about that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information and cookbook for patients whom are new to the world of cancer
The world of cancer is so diverse and this cookbook covers alot of information and advise. We have found out that our faith in God, good nutrition and a possitive outlook is critical when being treated for cancer. This book is a must as it deals with the side effects of the treatment and gives you specialized recipes to help you deal with your everyday life. Thank You Betty Crocker!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice book for those going through cancer treatment
I received this book when I was going through cancer treatment and thought it would be a good choice for those I know going through treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Praying through Cancer
On December 28, 2007, my world came to a crashing stop as I found the most precious thing in the world to me could be taken away. My wife and best friend of over 26 years had breast Cancer. This hit me especially hard because I had lost my mother to breast Cancer 15 years prior. Through five surgeries and 33 radiation treatments; emotional and spiritual strength was gained by both Leslie and myself from family and friends. I thank God for them.

Then, Leslie found the book, "Praying Through Cancer" on Amazon when she was searching for a devotional to help her though her radiation times. This book meant the world to my wife who I will be celebrating our second year anniversary of being Cancer-free this month. Thank you, Jesus! This is our fifth order of 10 of these books. She writes a personal note in the cover and gives them to anyone; friends, family, friends of friends, strangers she meets in the store; that she finds has been diagnosed with Cancer. It is a wonderful Devotional and will strengthen and give comfort to anyone blessed by it.Praying Through Cancer: Set Your Heart Free from Fear: A 90-Day Devotional for Women

5-0 out of 5 stars Excatly What She Needed
My sister was diagnosed with Leukemia on July 30th, 2009.Slated for a 30 day hospital stay- I sought out books to keep her mind off of things. The mornings are the most difficult for her, when she wakes and realizes she has to battle yet another day.I got her this book for the mornings, hoping it would give her the spiritual muscle to get through another day.

She starts every morning reading one or two devotionals and I've noticed a marked resurgence in her attitude. She won't be 100% for a while- but I'm positive that this book was exactly what she needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely relevant and inspiring
I am 47 yrs old and was diagnosed with a brain tumor almost two years ago.I just found this book about a month ago and have appreciated every story, prayer and thought.I have found myself in most, if not all, of the moments described and have come to many of the same places as all of these women. My one regret is that I didn't discover this sooner.I will give this book to everyone who finds themselves in these circumstnces, whether they experience it themselves or through someone they love. The book is diverse, relevant, to the point and insightful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Breast Oncologist's View
As a breast medical oncologist, I have been caring for breast cancer patients for nearly 9 years in the academic setting, and this is a great book that provides a fair and balanced approach to the oft ignored subject of diet and cancer risk. Dr. Prendergast provides well-researched and well-referenced recommendations for anyone who is looking to reduce their cancer risk. Dr. Prendergast uses archived data that is based on scientific method and is from controlled clinical trials whenever possible, making these lifestyle modifications as close to medically sound as possible. These guidelines on eating foods that are healthy are also reasonably "doable" in the aim of reducing one's risk of developing cancer or recurrent cancer. This book is an outstanding resource for breast cancer patients and their family alike. I highly recommend it and will be directing my patients to it, to help them through their treatments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and Welcome
In an age when the average physician receives little if any training in nutrition, Dr. Pendergrast breaks from the pack and devotes his entire book to the nutritional foundations of good health. While most doctors reach for a prescription pad, Dr. Pendergrast reaches for his pen--not to push pharmaceuticals but to empower women. His focus is on prevention, on true health care instead of disease management as it is too often practiced today.

His writing style is both informative and casual. He documents his statements with a great deal of research. His gentle humor is sprinkled throughout and his passion for true health care is evident on every page. Dr. Pendergrast has written a book that is both timely and necessary. Get this book for yourself or for the women in your life.

Cancer can now be cured, not just treated

We are not accustomed to thinking about a cure for cancer. We think of remission as the only possibility. But this book is not about remission. It is about a cure. This is possible because in 1990 Dr. Clark discovered the true cause of cancer. The cause is a certain parasite, for which I have found evidence in every cancer case regardless of the type of cancer. So lung cancer is not caused by smoking, colon cancer is not caused by a low roughage diet, breast cancer is not caused by a fatty diet, retinal blastoma is not caused b y a rare gene, and pancreatic cancer is not caused by alcohol consumption. Although these are all contributing factors, they are not THE cause. Once the true cause was found the cure became obvious. but would it work? I set a goal of 100 cases to be cured of cancer before publishing my findings. That mark was passed in December, 1992. the discovery of the cause and cure of all cancers has stood the test of time and here it is! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars An Outright LIE
I bought this (and other books in this series) when my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 54. I made the 'zapper' for her and got her to follow the instructions in the book. We were hopeful believers.

She died.

The book is a total and outrageous lie. Look into Max Gerson's therapy if you are looking for alternative medicine (he cured Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize 1952, as well as other notables). I wish I had known about his theories instead of falling into this trap. It is shocking that this/these books do not have a worse rating. It is time to let the quack out of the bag. LOOK ELSEWHERE! Not conventional therapies (my mother suffered through chemo, radiation, and invasive radiation after the tumor kept growing in spite of the 'miracle cure'), but please steer away from THIS bunch of refuse. It has been four years since her death; this is not an aftermath-critique.

If you are looking for alternative treatments for cancer (and I applaud that - who thinks it is sane to pump your body full of toxins to kill something, and not have it kill the body, too?? oh, yeah...doctors and the AMA and drug companies... go figure) keep digging and find actual testimonials, scientific proof, history of successes, and you will have a better chance than with someone who thinks *all* cancers are caused by parasites. Maybe some, but be wary of anyone putting all their breads into the same oven to bake (I hate the eggs analogy - hens are the worse treated farm creatures in the world).

I wish you Good Luck on your journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Easy & Delicious recipes!
I found the information to be quite helpful and a great reminder about smart food choices. I've used about 6 of the recipes and love them all. They're easy to make, healthy & delicious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This is a veryhelpful book, written in easy-to-understand language and containing some recipes that sound very good...if you are cleared to eat soy products. If not, make appropriate adjustments to the recipes so you don't encourage a return or resurrection of cancer cells.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some aspects bother me..
I actually haven't finished this book yet, and I do think there is some great info so far. No doubt, a diet focused on fruits, veggies and whole grains is what we should all strive for....however, there are a few points that bother me so far:

1 - It's stated that one of the reasons to avoid both chicken and fish is due to the "saturated fat content". Heh?? Skinless chicken breast has .4 grams of saturated fat. And fish has always been considered low in saturated fat, even fatty fish like salmon is low in saturated fat. So I don't understand their claim on this.

2 - I bought this book thinking it was both for cancer prevention and also cancer survival (for those diagnosed and, as the title states, "...fighting back"). But then on page 83 in the Q and A section, it states that this book is only intended for cancer prevention and for those who are FINISHED with treatment. (?) So I'm very confused on who the audience is...because many parts of the book make it seem it's for people currently fighting the disease.

3 - One big side effect of cancer in the abdominal/lung areas is ascites. And diet very much affects that, yet I didn't see ascites mentioned anywere. Ascites is massive fluid build-up around the abdominal cavity and lung area that is a side effect of cancer in that region. It's usually one of the initial signs alerting people to a cancer diagnosis. It swells the abdomen very uncomfortably and can cause labored breathing when it interferes with lungs. My mother is currently battling stage IV ovarian cancer, and suffered with ascites. A diet rich in solid protein sources is very important in treating this. Her doctors, as well as a nutritionist, instructed her to focus on proteins like chicken and fish every day. As far as soy protein goes, they say to avoid it for those fighting breast and ovarian cancers due to the estrogen. (Though there are conflicting reports.)

4 - The recipes are very low-fat...only 10-20% fat, which seems very low. They suggest giving up ALL meat/poultry/fish sources, no eggs, no dairy...plus limiting fat to such a low amount...which all in all, I think is a bit extreme. (For some of the recipes, I would probably add a little more avocado or nuts, just for satiety.) While it may be ideal nutrition, I think it will be tough to stick to.

Other than that, it is very informative about nutrition and cancer, and at the very least...it can help you increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, which is always a good thing. So take it with a grain of salt. (Or salt substitute.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Information and Health Boosting Recipes

4-0 out of 5 stars A thought provoking book
On July 31 of 2009, my neurosurgeon told me to go home and wait to die. That didn't really suit me, as I have two small daughters to raise. Instead, I went home and decided to live. With the initial surgery in July, I thought I could do it without God's help, but that changed pretty quickly, when I realised there are some things in this life where you do need God's help. I bought this book with great expectations, but stopped reading after chapter one - I didn't see much hope in the story (I didn't feel I needed to reminded yet again that miracles don't always happen), but then the author suggested I start reading at chapter 5, which I did, and from there I read the whole book. So my suggestion, is to start at Chapter five. God bless.

5-0 out of 5 stars When God and Cancer meet
I had this sent to my sister who had cancer removed earlier this year.It was a blessing to read about all those folks who also had cancer and how they gave God glory dispite the illness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
As a cancer survivor, this is the best book I read while I was going through almost 2 years of surgeries, chemo, radiation, etc.
I still read the last chapter occasionally.Very inspirational to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great item
Book arrived in great condition. Took a while though, before it came in d mail.

2-0 out of 5 stars When God and Cancer Meet
I am a chaplain on the oncology unit of a large hospital and I would NOT recommend this book to all of my patients.I would recommend it to those who were Chrisitans or on the road to becoming Christians. The author's exclusive Christian view of life would not be helpful to our patients' that are of a different spiritual persuasion. One would think, while reading this book, that one would need to become a Christian to be either cured of their cancer or make sense of the disease. There were two good quotes near the end of the book that were useful; i.e. one about hope and the other by Chuck Swindol which I have used in my ministry with patients of all spiritual persuasions. ... Product Description

The Biology of Cancer is a textbook for undergraduate and graduate biology students as well as medical students studying the molecular and cellular bases of cancer. The book presents the principles of cancer biology in an organized, cogent, and in-depth manner. The clarity of writing and the lucid full-color art program make the book accessible and engaging. The information unfolds through the presentation of key experiments which give readers a sense of discovery and provides insights into the conceptual foundation underlying modern cancer biology.

The Biology of Cancer synthesizes the findings of three decades of recent cancer research and proposes a conceptual framework from which to teach about these discoveries. It provides the necessary structure, organization, and content for a course on cancer biology for advanced undergraduates and beginning doctoral students. The book is comprehensive and offers many pedagogical features to assist teaching and learning. The book includes many recent and topical references, and is intended to empower the student to move directly into the primary research literature.

The text is up-to-date and provides current information on topics such as tumor stem cells and recently introduced chemotherapeutics. State-of-the-art techniques are discussed throughout. Modern biomedical research is explored, helping readers to hone their analytical abilities and to assimilate and think clearly about complex biological processes. The Biology of Cancer provides insights into many aspects of immunology, developmental biology, and neurobiology.

The exceptional full-color art program contains many images published for the first time. The book is extensively illustrated with schematic drawings, micrographs, computer-generated models and graphs. The pieces were chosen to support and clarify the concepts, as well as to supply additional interest.

Besides its value as a textbook, The Biology of Cancer will be a useful reference for individuals working in biomedical laboratories, and for clinical professionals.

Thanks, I really appreciate your services. I will recommend people purchase items from this seller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, not perfect yet
This book was awaited for long. Weinberg's writing style is excellent. The book covers major topic of the molecular biology of cancer. Compared to some other comprehensivebooks on cancer, this book is focused on the molecular events in cancer, and not on particular cancer types, or similar, more clinical topics. Yet (being a cancer researcher myself) I feel that some controversies were left out. One may say that in the textbook one is to present established knowledge, however we are witnessing every day that many dogmas are overthrown. This being a 1st edition, there is still a space for improvements. However, I recommend this book for undergraduates, graduates and professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the cell biology underlying cancer
Highly recommended to me by a physician scientist colleague for an overview of the role of mitochondria in cancer. Those chapters were superb.CD with color figures from the book is great.Wish all first/second year medical students had to read this book.

Very readable serious scientific introduction for the college student/first-second year medical student/graduate student.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for undergraduates, PhD students, physician scientists

5-0 out of 5 stars great book!
The stretching exercises in this book helped me restore full range of motion in my shoulders and arms in a very short period of time after surgery.I had been doing the exercises in the little pamphlet given to me by the surgeon, but those exercises did not seem to be producing the results I wanted.I could barely lift my arms over my head to wash my hair.It was immediately obvious from the first stretches I did, that those from the book were exactly what I needed.I like that the book has somewhat different exercises and stretches for different types of breast surgery and alternative ways of accomplishing them based on an individual's abilities and limitations. It also has really good explanations and descriptions (and illustrations) of the various surgeries.I highly recommended the book to my surgeon and occupational therapist. If you've had breast surgery, get this book and get moving.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Breast Cancer Survior's Fitness Plan
This is the most informative book I found on physicaly recovering from mastectomy. It is full of information on excercises you can do after to help you recover faster with less complications.I wish I had found it before my surgery. You are sent home with instructions on what not to do but nothing on what you can do. I also bought a copy for my surgeon. The more you know the better you will do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent primer for cancer patients
My wife is currently undergoing treatment and this excellent text provides much valuable information to assist her in her recovery. This is a higly recommended "how to" book filled with practical fitness ideas and approaches, written by people who know whereof they speak. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful information and exercises
I received this book 2 days after I ordered it and did not use fast delivery.I had my mastectomy 9/11 and I was not told about exercising until last week. Then I could not get into the therapy program until Dec 23.I have really been hurting and lots of fluid.I finally went on line and learned about exercising before I ordered this book.In the last hour - I have learned so much. Also the exercise pictures really shows you what to do.By the time I get to therapy - I hope to be doing well.I rate this book an 5 plus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a great book that gives a lot of accurate information. I found that if you already have breast cancer, a lot of this information is duplicate from what you can get at any good cancer center for free, but it is all combined into one book rather than tons of brochures. It's a good reference and when everyone around you has an opinion, you can go to this book for the right answers. Would make a great gift for a newly diagnosed patient. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have questions about prostate cancer treatments read this book!
If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, know or love someone who has, or have concerns about prostate cancer due to a family history, you must read Bob Marckini's book.It is an absolute wealth of information written by an intelligent, inquisitive engineer and spelled out in laymen's terms that anyone can understand. You'll know what questions to ask and be much better informed about the answers you are, or are not receiving. As a resource tool alone it is a treasure for where to find additional information. The writer admits to a bias for proton treatment and for good reason.Read his book and you'll understand why.I did and was about to make a decision between robotic assisted surgery and proton treatment.I was leaning heavily toward proton treatment when I received a phone call that changed everything.

Because of the advice in Bob's book I understood the pathology report on my biopsy slides was subjective and should be read by two different laboratories. One of the many resources in the book was a list of a few of the premier labs in the country.I took this advice and sent my slides off just to confirm if the cancer was any worse, or better than indicated on the first report. The call I received was from Dr. Epstein, the Director of Surgical Pathology at Johns Hopkins, telling me "you do not have cancer".What I do have is an amended pathology report and a letter of apology from the first pathologist.Read the book, question everything, question everyone and then act on it.Whatever course of treatment you select, you'll have the confidence and convection you're making an informed decision that you can live with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surgery is OVERTREATMENT they won't tell you but Bob will.
This book is a MUST READ!If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer you will not regret it!This book is a true treasure map to figuring out the MANY treatment options available and ALL of the pros/cons for them....The author footnotes statistics from medical journals showing that all of the treatment options have the same basic results for a cure but many different outcomes of SIDE effects and caliber of life AFTER treatment!Being recently diagnosed this year (2010) with PC myself as a 42 year old, I know firsthand how confusing all of the treatment options can be.I also know firsthand how each doctor in their prospective fields ranging from surgery to radiation can also be salesmen towards THEIR specialty which may or MAYNOT be in YOUR best interest! This book clamed my fears, settled my nerves and put me on a path that I know will cure me and leave me with the best possible outcome concerning the side effects. You will have to look for yourself but statistics don't lie....No doctor gave me anything close to what Robert J. Marckini (the author) did by arming me with this vital information!Kudos Bob!

5-0 out of 5 stars After reading Boberts book my decision which treatment to choose was easy and fast
Shortly after retiring from a major fire department with 38 years of service, a routine blood test showed a high PSA score.Soon tests showed I had stage two PC.Of course right to internet and WOW lots of treatments from Watchful waiting to removal, and several other treatments.Needless to say i did not know what any of the treatments entailed, such as success, and most important to me was after cancer life style.

A friend advised me to read "YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCERand ... by Robert Marckini. After reading Bob's book the correct treatment for me jumped out of book with absolute certainty.

I won't say which treatment WE chose, but I just had my six month checkup after treatment and my PSA was down to .071.In addition I have full control of my bladder functions, no dripping or diapers, no loss of sexual functions.

Thanks to my friend and to Robert Marckini and the medical provider I am cancer free.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every page was of value to me. Every page.
I did not skim over any of this outstanding book.I read every page and I found value in every single page.Like the author, Bob Marckini, I am a "recovering engineer."Although retired, I still think logically and I naturally enjoy solving problems. He does that too. It's genetic.I like facts, not fiction. And I appreciate his balanced comparison of alternative treatment methods.

Don't misunderstand. There is humor. And there are interesting stories to make his points. All of it is well done.I now understand all the major treatment options along with their advantages and disadvantages. I know I have to look out for myself. Now I am way better equipped to do that. Most importantly, I learned about Proton Treatment. It is a miracle of medicine and engineering. And that is the treatment I intend to seek. But you can decide for yourself. It is a great read and a fine reference book.

Clear, concise and poignant.I particularly like the diet and supplement section, along with the fact that this book is not stuck in a time-warp and is updated regularly with current standards of treatment (I couldn't help but notice people started posting reviews back in 1998 and I have a late 2007 version).

This is just what I needed to help me understand/get through what is going on, why chemo is indicated, what to expect and how I can be actively participating in my care and wellness (now and in the future).Wonderfully helpful!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very helpful book
This book was very informative after I was diagnosed with cancer of the breast. It describes in detail the types of cancer infiltrating the breast tissue and steps needed for treatment. Also recommended diet and exercise is included. This book is a must when dealing with this disease. ... Read more

Product Description
When we hear that someone close to us has been diagnosed with cancer, we want nothing more than to comfort them with words of hope, support, and love. But sometimes we don’t know what to say or do, and don’t feel comfortable asking. With sensitive insights and thoughtful anecdotes, HELP ME LIVE provides a personal yet thoroughly researched account of words and actions that are most helpful. Based on the author’s own experiences with cancer, as well as interviews and surveys with many others who have had this disease, each chapter tells intimate stories about one of the 20 most important messages people with cancer want to convey, such as "I need to forget—and laugh," "Asking my permission can spare me pain," "I want you to understand if I don’t call you back or see you," and "I want compassion, not pity; comfort, not advice." You’ll learn that communicating effectively doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a "right thing" to say or do, but that you can achieve the desired result: to make those who are ill feel better. In candid and beautifully detailed prose, HELP ME LIVE will help you find the words or gestures to show how much you care. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I know another great book!
Check out Goddesses Don't buy Green Bananas from the website: goddessbook.comThis is book with large photos of women with cancer...all types and all stages. It is meant to give you hope.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book really helps to understand some of the things cancer patients go through and how to respond without hurting them more.I felt the real life examples were extremely good.

5-0 out of 5 stars HELP ME LIVE helped me to understand those who have cancer.
HELP ME LIVE helped me to understand those who have cancer. The author, Lori Hope, had cancer herself. She interviewed others who have or have had cancer; she presents her and their reactions to what is said and done by others with regard to their cancer.

Lori Hope tells it like it is.In a non-judgmental way, she gets her point across very effectively. When I finished reading this well-written book, I had a very good idea of what to say and how to behave toward people who have cancer.I have much more confidence and fewer doubts, in this regard, than I did before.

I highly recommend this book to those who do, and do not, have cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Deal!
It helps others understand what people with cancer do not want you to say in front of them. It also iterates that it is okay for people with cancer to say how they feel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reachign Out WIth Grace and Sensitivity
In Help Me Live, Lori Hope offers a unique perspective on surviving cancer. As she shares 20 things people with cancer want you to know, she creates a bridge of understanding between cancer patients and their friends, families, neighbors, and co-workers. Anyone who has cancer and anyone who knows someone with cancer can benefit from reading this book.

When a member of my writers' group was diagnosed with cancer, I followed the advice Lori shared in her book. We can become so afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing that we often avoid someone who is ill, which is the worst thing of all. Reaching out is always the right thing to do.

And as Lori shares the anecdotes of cancer survivors, including many faux pas; she guides her readers on how to reach out with grace and sensitivity. She writes vividly andhonestly. In her book, I found humor, gratitude, and wisdom. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this excellent book. This recent publication is the most credible and helpful resource I have seen on the market regarding an integrative approach to the prevention and treatment of cancer. The authors have incorporated information from several fields of knowledge, including conventional medicine, to provide readers with an invaluable guide for anunderstanding of the different types of cancer, preventive measures that make sense, and when cancer occurs, the options available for treatment and healing.

There are numerouls books on cancer and it is unusual to find one that is as organized and clearly written as this book by Dr. Alschuler and Ms. Gazella.Furthermore, as a professional, knowledgeable about research methods and the importance of reliable and valid studies to support findings and recommendations, I found this book's use of research more credible and useful than most publications on integrative approaches. The charts throughout the text add clarity to the material as well as the case studies and cited opinions from other professionals.

I give much credit to Dr. Alschuler and Ms. Gazella for the extraordinary effort they extended in writing this book.Professionals, families and individuals should have this book and use the material as a primary resource on their understanding of cancer, how the disease may be prevented, and when it occurs, what options are available for treatment and healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars valuable and reliable information
Invariably the information within this book is helpful and easy to understand.I find two features of this book, among many, as uniquely helpful. First is the book's integration of 'standard' cancer treatment with 'alternative' treatments in a practical and evidence-based way.The alternative treatments are given and evaluated on the basis of the evidence supporting them. This allows people to make informed and reasonable decisions. There are so many wild claims about cancer treatment that abound on the internet and in books. It is very difficult to make sense of all of it.This book does that, while not telling you what to do. In this way the authors support their trustworthiness and integrity. The second feature I find particularly helpful is the access to understandable information. The book can be read from cover to cover, or as a reference.Invariably, if I have a question about a type of cancer, standard treatment options, supplements to take, what I can expect, etc. the information is easy to find in this one book.

Unfortunately, I have had the opportunity to give this book to several friends who are dealing with cancer. However, each person has come back to me later with praise for the book and gratitude that I gave it to them.

This is the one book to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars Integrative Approaches to Cancer
This book has a wealth of information pertaining to taking care of one's health when afflicted with cancer. I would recommend it for anybody with cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our Choice for Patients to read
The majority of patients I see in our office have come to us because they have cancer and want more options than what they are offered in their oncologist's offices. They have read that diet, exercise, nutritional supplements and other natural techniques may help them in their fight againstcancer.Yet their oncologists can provide little or no information on what else they can do along with surgery, chemo and radiation.

Often these people are desperate and turn to the internet to find things that might help. Never was the phrase, "Buyer Beware" more applicable to those seeing cancer cures online.Much of my time with new patients is spent answering questions spurred on by unproven and rather suspicious claims of miracle cures.I have long sought out a book that I could hand our patients that would provide an honest roadmap of the path that lies ahead of them.A book that covers cancer from both sides of the path, the standard medical oncologic approach and the alternative and complementary approach.A book that helps people integrate both approaches together so that they can get the best of both.In the end is not how patients get better but getting them better.

This book is the one we have chosen to use in our office and we currently purchase them by the box.I haven't found a better book for our purposes. It's honest, straightforward, well written and covers almost all the topics that need to be covered. If this you are only going to read one book about cancer, this is a good choice.

Book was delivered on time and as stated in the ad.Book has many pages of information to help over come common types of cancer.Traditional cancer treatment will most likely set up future cancers.Be careful to examine and check out each treatment and then select the one that will work for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the paper it's printed on
As a cancer patient, I had great hopes when I ordered this book. I had received an email from a Doctor's site I subscribed to which offered the book at an astronomical price. It had raving reviews from supposedly happy customers... it had saved their lives, etc... (reviews probably written by the writer's staff).
I was totally disappointed: there is not a single valuable piece of information in this book. It is full of outdated data, impossible to follow advice, and nothing that any intelligent person cannot find on the net.
I am glad I spent only a few dollars for this piece of garbage, I would have felt robbed if I had paid the full advertised price.
I am donating the book to our local library with a WARNING: FOR ENTERTAINMENT ONLY.

4-0 out of 5 stars How to fight cancer & win

Product Description

Your support group in a book, filled with boundless strength and profound hope - until the fight is won.

Along with the shock, fear and loss many women face upon a breast cancer diagnosis comes unexpected strength, wisdom, and strong networks of sharing, support and healing. In Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivor's Soul, survivors and their family members talk openly about how difficult their fight with breast cancer has been and how they made it through the dark times with a belief in a higher power and the support of those closest to them.

Find strength in the encouraging stories of how family members confront their fears and show genuine affection for one another through gestures such as a granddaughter cutting the hair off of all her dolls so that they will look more like her grandma, who is bald from chemotherapy, and the gentle touch of a three-year-old son on his mother's back giving comfort to his sick mommy, and a husband who shows his wife the depth of his love during a weekend getaway after she heals from a total mastectomy.
Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivors Soul will show you the beautiful side of the human spirit and spark the optimism sometimes lost in the mist of an illness. It is for everyone with breast cancer and everyone who loves someone touched by the disease.

Product Description

In the spring of 2000, stand-up comedian Robert Schimmel was diagnosed with stage III non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and soon the fire of his white-hot career started to fizzle.

But Schimmel never lost his sense of humor, his searing honesty, and most of all, his passion to make people laugh. Indeed, it was his basic need to entertain—even if the only people around him were suffering from cancer and the room he was playing was the Mayo Clinic infusion center—that carried him through his ordeal.

Alternately laugh-out-loud funny and deeply moving, Cancer on $5 a Day is a stirring account of how one man’s face-off with a deadly disease helped him better understand himself, and ultimately changed his life.

5-0 out of 5 stars RIP Bob Schimmel
I bought this book Saturday morning after hearing of Bob Schimmel's death. What a shame and what a loss for his family and fans.

I've always loved Bob Schimmel's stand up routines on Sirius XM.That's just about the only place you can hear them, because his bits are way too nasty for any other media.

I had heard that he had beat cancer, survived a heart attack, and had made it through some very difficult times in his personal life.It made the news that much more stunning that he had died in an auto accident, and even worse so when I heard that one of his daughters was driving.I can't even imagine her pain.

So that's the backdrop for this book.I downloaded this book to my Kindle so I could start reading right away.It was hard to read his personal account of survival knowing that the book's end was very different than his life's end.

The book was part torture and part delicious.I'm just a regular guy, but a book has never made me laugh so hard and never made me cry in public.I finished the book early Monday morning while pretending to shop at an outlet mall with my wife.I recommend a less public setting.

So what's the book about? It's no secret, as the title puts it right out there.Bob learns he has non-Hodgekins Lymphoma (sp??).This book is his personal account from diagnosis, through grueling treatment, and all the way to remission.Although he uses his comedy to cope with his disease and tries to help other patients and professionals, the treatment is brutal and he can't just laugh his way through it.

There's nothing funny about cancer or what he and his fellow patients went through. How he dealt with it and how he retold it was pretty doggone funny--hysterical really. But it's gallows humor and you never forget the disease or his pain for one minute in this book.

Do I recommend this book?Absolutely yes.But it's not the easiest book to read.Especially when you know the happy ending is so brief.I should also warn you that his comedy is as vulgar as it gets.If you can't handle jokes about body parts and bodily functions, then you should think twice about reading this one.I'm not sorry I read it though.

I'm grateful that he left us with so many laughs. And I'm grateful that he was strong enough to share this story.I hope his story can give comfort to patients and their families.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
I admit that this review is biased.I'm a big fan of Robert Schimmel's comedy.I bought this book because I thought it would be funny and insightful. It was. You'll finish this book quickly and you'll have good basic insight on what it feels like to be told you have cancer and the treatment that ensues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Great Book.I thought the title of this review was enough, but apparently not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much Needed Therapy
A friend of mine gave me this book after going through treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I knew of and liked Robert through his stand up, but I was totally blown away by this book. I read it cover to cover in a few hours, and was moved from outloud laughter to tears several times.

Fast forward 1 year and my father in law is diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. Now my father in law is a born again christian, and Robert is a very blue comedian. But I bought him this book and gave it too him with a verbal disclaimer. HE LOVED IT!!! He has given copies to freinds and neighbors with cancer, he was reading it during his chemo treatments and was laughing so hard that the place where he gets his chemo bought 2 copies!

Buy this book! And if your offened by a few words......Get Over It!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars CANCER ON FIVE DOLLARS A DAY (chemo not included)
An excellent book!Great balance between honest experiences and humor! Gave this book to a friend who has cancer (finished chemo and taking radiation); she loved it...and says she will pass it along to others!!!Only complaint I have is I really wish I could have purchased mulitiple copies!!! ... I was extremely satisfied with the condition of this book. It looked like new. I will definitelyorder again.

5-0 out of 5 stars AJCC 7th edition staging manual
I had to buy this for work.It is much larger than the sixth edition and includes many changes.I like that there are more illustrations and color used in this edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Muy buena edición!

4-0 out of 5 stars package never arrived, but company/amazon made right
The book was ordered on 02/25 and delivery was to be between 03/03 and 03/18..The company noted it was sent within 2-3 days, but on 03/18 the book was not at my home on 03/19 I contacted amazon and by 03/25 my account was credited. I am not sure in this day and age why confirmation delivery is not use. I probably will not order from this dealer just for that reason. This is the first mail order that I did not receive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Improvements could be made
The N staging for vulvar cancer, which has changed from the 6th edition, is presented very poorly.Go page 380 yourself and read it. You'll be scratching your head. The only saving grace is that on page 383, in the staging form, the N stages for vulvar cancer are presented again, this time without the gross editing errors that ruin the main entry. But this book cost nearly $50 and it should have been proof-read better.

The editors persist in the practice of presenting T and N stages both generally and as subdivisions such as N1a and N1b. For the sake of illustration, imagine a hypothetical N staging as AJCC would present it:

N1: 1 or 2 lymph node metastases.
N1a: Exactly 1 lymph node metastasis
N1b: Exactly 2 lymph node metastases
N2: 3 or more lymph node metastases
N2a: Exactly 3 lymph node metastases
N2b: More than 3 lymph node metastases

IMO they really need not state the general N1 and N2 cases at all. (If they must do so, I wish they would at least follow standard outline format and indent the subdivisions that follow.) If they omitted the general cases, it would reduce the clutter on the page:

N1a: Exactly 1 lymph node metastasis
N1b: Exactly 2 lymph node metastases
N2a: Exactly 3 lymph node metastases
N2b: More than 3 lymph node metastases

Finally, the editors on the whole still haven't stumbled across the concept of presenting stage groups in the form of tables rather than as lists. Construct a table for yourself and you will see the elegant simplicity of it. You can actually express the whole stage grouping of a cancer with fewer characters this way, again reducing the visual clutter on the page. The most important thing, though, is that a table makes apparent the trends and relationships, primarilybetween T stage and N stage, that define the stage groups. It's more scientific AND more user-friendly at the same time. ... Read more
