5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Has It All
This is the only book that really takes you from start to finish with Candida. It not only explained the things to do but why.The author has been through this and the fact that Dr. Zoltan Rona is part of it makes it the "real thing".It is helping me on my way back to wellness.

3-0 out of 5 stars a good book
This book is pretty decent. Some things I don't care for too much: Way too many exclamation marks. ("Nuts are a bomb in the digestive tract!") Ok, this may be way exciting to the author but it makes it seem like she is on crack or something. Sorry just an observation. Also the book is incredibly repetitive. In fact, with a close reading you will find entire paragraphs verbatim in different parts of the book. A little anoying. My hat is off to anyone who writes an honest book on this subject. I in no way intent to discredit the author's sincerity. They did a good job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source!
I am glad i read this book. I was looking for something that would explain causes of candida and help me prevent it, as opposed to just popping diflucan or other medications, to which I have side reactions. With this book, I feel I can keep candida under control by maintaining a diet- not the worst price to pay for staying healthy. I have been watching what i eat for the past couple of months and it works! (I only miss drinking milk.) I am also glad to have been reassured that I wasn't imagining my strong sugar cravings. This book has been a great resource!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of 3
We purchased 3 books related to Candida from Amazon. This one stands way above the other two.It doesn't just preach, it explains why to do or not to do something. My wife and I have been on a Candida cleanse for 2 weeks (she has it, I'm doing it to support her). The food is pretty good.It does take more time to prepare the meals but the results will be worth it (lost 12 pounds in 1 week!).Miss some things (like coffee and wine) but will stick it out for 4 weeks.Wish us luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Over the Top
This book is in the catagory of information overload and treats Candida overgrowth in the same way as several other severe immunodeficient diseases are.In fact others conditions are included. The co-author being an M.D. helps present a rounded viewpoint. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Candida Control Cookbook:What you Should Know and What You Should Eat to Manage Yeast Infections
This book is informative and gives a good idea of what to eat and not to eat. I appreciate the many recipes showing a variety of ways to prepare the limited foods we are allowed to eat during the die off period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Cookbook
This is a very informative cookbook. The recipes are the best I have found (and this is the third cookbook I have purchased).I wish I had known about using 100% pure vegetable glycerine as a sweetener months ago!Her recipes make you feel like you are eating "real" food again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anti Yeast Diet
This book has been a real help to me in my anti yeast adventure.I have been taking lamisil and following the diet for 3 weeks with great success. It is a roller coaster ride, but more ups than downs. The food is not the most tasty at times, but with so little choice it is hard.A favorite is the Oat and Orange Muffins (which I vary with different flavorings Raspberry is delicious!) -- they are simple to make, moist and freeze well. Also real good are the Rice Ball Cookies. This book is a must for those with this particular need.(ALSO - to a previous reviewer: I BELIEVE STEVIA IS VEGETABLE GLYCERIN AND WATER.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book was excellent and informative. It covers all the basics of what to look for and how to treat it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent.
I like this cookbook. It is not quite as restrictive as some other candida diets, so that should be kept in mind for those searching for a way to conquer candida. Also, it is a cookbook, not a health book, so it does not go into great depth about candida, though it does offer some useful information.I would not make this my primary reference book on candida.I like the book for its simple, healthy whole foods recipes, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Accurate
This book really didn't help me much. The foods that are on the "allow" list are in actuality NOT allowed and can really set a candida patient back on their quest for health.I would not recommend to someone that is truly fighting this disease.

3-0 out of 5 stars Candidiasis ad infinitum
Of the large numbers of books on this subject, this one offered little new information.I did see a few recipes that appealed, but could have easily skipped this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
Finally someone has figured out that depression, fatigue, lack of motivation, confusion, headaches, yeast infections, PMS, cramps, and everything else that ails ya can be attributed to this biological event.I was so tired of being misdiagnosed.I went into a doctor's office looking for nutritional information 4 years ago, and all I got was a diagnosis of anxiety and a prescription for prozac. It took me two years to get rid of its side effects. I only took it for 5 months before I decided it was very wrong for me to be taking this drug as I realized that my problem wasn't starting in my brain chemicals as is the latest theory.
The body fuels the mind, so I started paying attention, about 3 years ago, to the way my body reacted to soda pop. Since then I have changed my sugar intake and thus eliminated my depression, aches and pains, headaches, colds and flu, lost weight, gained energy and motivation...everything is different for the first time in my life. The first time!
I was searching for a way to explain my recently frequent yeast infections and stumbled upon this book at a local drug store. I have had them since I started menstruating, and thus started experiencing fluctuating hormones. This book shows a lot about how my lower-middle class American diet of processed foods has certainly attributed to the problem as well! At 35 I am healthier than I have ever been and going through stage 1 to get my balance in check, so that I can control the infections, eliminate the candida growth, then progress through stages 2,3 to bring my diet and biology back into harmony.
I am so excited about finallly finding a "cure".So far, the only difficulty here in the Midwest is finding the stage 1 foods in my city (pop. 300,000). The nearest organic/health food store that carries antibiotic, and growth hormone-free meat is about 35 minutes away. And I spent 3 hours with this book in hand at the main grocery chain trying to find sugar and yeast-free foods. It is everywhere in everything! I am not surprised at America's obesity problem anymore now that I am an avid label reader. especially since eating healthy is 2 to 3 times more costly!
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is intuitive and perceptive about their bodies' behaviors, and for those who are tired of being told that it's all in their heads.Chemically imbalanced yes, but not in the brain.
The real imbalance(and injustice) is the way we have been forced to eat and live in this country. While I got a fatter waistline, those who process the crappy food I ate got fatter wallets. So did the pharmaceutical companies, the "specialists", the "doctors", the clothing companies where I had to keep buying clothes that fit, the cold drug manufacturers, and everyone else who made money from my illnesses. This book is freedom and control in your life if candida is your problem. Buy one, buy many, and share them with everyone you know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and very well put together.
I've read many books on this subject. The best thing about this book is that it gives you hope. 3 stages to this diet and easily explained with common sense and science. The recipes are easy and wonderful. There are appropriate lists of foods that help you see how to plan. This is not a "fad book" but brilliantly put together by women who know the subject and have lived the misery. There is simply not one negative I could say about this. It is the only book I've seen that gives a person a complete understanding of what is going on within the body, the consequences, and a way out that leaves you with a positive outlook. Gone are the absolutes of a bland menu. The ideas are new and undated. Everyone has their own version of things, as is said, but this is a plan that is possible to follow and also enjoy at the same time. Not kidding. The recipes are good enough for someone not suffering the condition also. Good for guys too. We can get this imbalance also. You can't lose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chronic
This book was just what I was looking and had all of the information needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I have seen on this subject..
Although this book is small if you look at the others closely they are full of general health info that is used to bulk them up to (ahem) 'Encyclopedic' proportions. Stop eating all simple sugars including lactose, take some healing herbs, prepare to feel like crap for several weeks while WWIII rages inside your body. Two or three months later you feel amazing!! So far I've lost 20 pounds of fat and only need 6 hours sleep instead of my usual 11. Pretty much a miracle. Try it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring!
This book was so dry and so boring. It was very clinical. I was hoping for a list of the sypmtoms of candidiasis and some helpful suggestions on how to control the condition. Most of the book was not helpful or useful to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
The book is an excellent choice for anyone interest in the subject. I've bought and read 4 books on this subject (Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook by Jeanne Marie Martin, The Candida Albicans Yeast Free Cookbook by Pat Connolly, The Yeast Connection Cookbook by William Crook) but this one is the most conscise and yet it's offering all the answers. Dr. Murray offers a lot of suggestions on the diet and natural supplements that are essential for good health and boosting up an immune system. Medicine alone did not help me but combining the medicine with the diet recommendations found in this book showed results.

2-0 out of 5 stars I disagree
I bought this book since everyone was giving it 5 stars. The first part of the book was o.k., but then, it got into way too much detail. I found the descriptions of the cells, lymphs and technical names for every enzyme pretty boring. I had to make myself finish reading it. Buy it if you want to read every detail of the immune system. If you are like me and need something more basic, look on. ... Read more

Book Description
For almost 30 years Candida Höfer has photographed interiors, mostly representational spaces accessible to the public, such as staircases, lobbies, reading halls or exhibition spaces. Rather than staging them, she takes their picture in the state she finds them, with great discreetness and a touch of humour.

Libraries are a book producer's dream. Since nobody photographs libraries as beautifully as Höfer, it seemed only natural for Schirmer/Mosel to dedicate her next publication to the splendid and intimate cathedrals of knowledge across Europe and the US: the Escorial in Spain, the Whitney Museum in New York, Villa Medici in Rome, the Hamburg University library, the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, the Museo Archeologico in Madrid, and Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, to name just a few. Almost completely devoid of people, as is Candida Höfer's trademark, these pictures radiate a comforting serenity that is exceptional in contemporary photography. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 20 years and counting
I've had this book for 20 years and while I no longer have Candida and haven't for years, I still use the recipes in this book because they are simple, tasty and healthy.

4-0 out of 5 stars The relief of simplicity
This book is uncomplicated, straight-forward and doesn't sway from it's belief system through contradictions.

The receipes are created with regular foods found in your grocery store and carbs are counted per serving for each receipe. Not a low/no carbohydrate concept, but more of a balanced body chemistry alternative... such as fruit can unbalance your bodies chemistry, and should only be consumed as an occasional treat. Takes the cave-man diet to a new, healthful, fresh and appetizing level while eliminating mold, sugar, additives and suggesting the moderate use of certain food that can upset the natural body chemistry.

Overall, it's a great feel-good type of book. Just like my new beverage of choice called s o y f e e. It's made from soybeans that you brew just like coffee. Caffeine-free, you'll find it at www. S oycoffee.com.

An excellent book to have on hand for reference as well as quick healthful receipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Changed My Life--literally
I reached a point in my life where I was constantly ill. I had never-ending digestive problems, including loud, involuntary stomach rumbling (while in my college classes, how embarrassing), gas, sick stomach, and plenty of fatigue. I was a bit fat and depressed. Fortunately, I found this book. I won't say it cured every single thing in my life--there is no "easy cure-all." But it made such a difference.
The book has you eat a wide range of vegetables, some meat/protein, and drink only water. I ate nuts and yeast-free crackers, too. It sounds like a crazy change, and I admit I had a hard time with it. I wasn't always perfect, either. Sometimes I would get depressed because I couldn't eat all the donuts, fruit, dairy, and pasta that I loved. But what a difference in my health! That deprivation was so hard but 110% worth it. I lost weight and that was great, but I also had energy, my horrible, uncontrollable health problems went away, and I was happy again. What price can you put on just being happy and appreciating your appearance and having the energy to do what you want to do?
Also on the positive side, I discovered new vegetables that I really enjoy and a whole new way of eating. Also, I want to point out that it was hard to eat this way because I wasn't used to eating all these fresh vegetables instead of my processed, man-made foods and sugars, but the food was actually very good, colorful, varying in taste and texture, and creative. I learned what it was like to feel light and energized after dinner instead of too "full" and weighted down and tired. And I did go through the expected withdrawal period for 3-7 days at first (while my body was cleaning out yet still craving the toxins), but after that I felt better.
I won't say I was perfect after doing my cleansing eating period. I still love Chinese food, for example. But I know now how to take care of myself, and I wanted to make sure to share my experience. Anything worth having requires sacrifice, but let me tell you, this is worth it!! It's the real deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook, Updated Second Edi
A yeast infection can manifest itself in a variety of ways.Symptoms include, but are not limited to, digestive difficulties, food allergies, joint pain, fatigue, and depression.Candida albicans, the medical name for culprit inmost yeast infections, lives in everyone.A number of factors, usually related to lifestyle and eating habits, can allow it to multiply out of control, creating serious problems for its human host.

Although a medical professional can diagnose a yeast infection, it's usually up to the individual to get his/her body back into balance. The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook, Updated Second Edition, by nutritionist Pat Connolly, provides all the information individuals need to restore themselves to good health.

Although it says "yeast-free" in the title, that doesn't mean that the recipes are prepared without yeast.Unfortunately it's not that simple.Yeast thrive on sugar, and the recipes are designed to eliminate sugar from diets, making the individual "yeast-free."

The basis of a sugar-free diet is the "Rainbow Meal Plan," developed by a team of doctors. The Rainbow Meal Plan is very simple:each meal "includes small portions of seven food groups:complete protein; grain or legume; root vegetable; yellow or white vegetable; green vegetable; red, orange, or purple vegetable; and leafy green vegetable."The portions are all the same size.Individuals may eat as many meals a day as they like, but each meal must contain equal-sized portions of each of the seven food groups.

Connolly provides some sample menus to help people get started on the plan.He has also provided a selection of recipes for a"Modified Food Plan" for those who are unable to use the Rainbow Plan. Most of the recipes are very simple and use easy-to-find ingredients.

He also includes tips on eating out, good nutrition, hidden sugars, and foods to avoid under all circumstances.

A comprehensive questionnaire at the beginning of the book will help those who suspect they may have a yeast overgrowth.

The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook offers hope and practical help to all those suffering from yeast infections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent recipes and large selection of each type.

This book is very small, but has so much great info.I have so many books that I got rid of mine after I read it, but now I wish I would have kept it as a reference guide.A must read for any suffering from Candida.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
My best friends wives have never been happier now that I have found this book by the remarkable Dr. Don Colbert. This author has graced us with such other wonderful books as the Bible's way to cure depression and has also educated the masses as to just what Jesus ate and how he cooked it.Jesus liked tabasco sauce by the way...at least he called for it in his recipies. At any rate, on to this book...I would have thought that the Biblicial way to cure such a pesky problem could have been gotten to faster than 96 pages, but apparently not.I'm just glad there's a Holy and Biblical answer to such a thing. And to think, all these vendors spend millions advertising all types of creams and insertive devices on televsion.I should like to think that if this book could reach more people, we could end those commercials and my dinner time could be interrupted by commercials for 4x4's, televisions and fried chicken rather than women speaking about burning and itching.Maybe someday, it will.Thank you Dr. Colbert, and thank you Jesus for showing the way to alleviate the problem of such yeasty devils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Candia albicans overgrowth can cause "leaky gut".
"The Bible Cure for Candida and Yeast Infections" by Dr. Don Colbert was given to me as a gift, and since it is such an excellent book I have bought numerous other books by Dr. Colbert. Having already read a number of books by other authors about allergies, environmental illness and yeast overgrowth, I was very surprised this small book provided information I had never read elsewhere. In particular, I am happy the book tells how to heal a "leaky gut". Recently I was tested to be allergic to only three or four foods, after years prior having been tested allergic to 70% of foods. I knew that candida had made holes in my gut, then food protein went directly into my bloodstream, and was fought against by my immune system, resulting in many food allergies. After rarely eating my allergic foods and taking a particular amino acid Dr. Colbert mentions in this book, I have become much less sensitive to many foods. This is an excellent book for anyone who has ever taken antibotics and is now experiencing any of the many problems that go along with intestinal flora imbalance. Candida Royalle, maker of adult films with a woman's perspective and former porn actress, knows how to script, direct, and perform an erotic scene. In How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do, Royalle shows women how to create their own sexy scenarios (cameras optional). She describes how to present and playact a fantasy: creating the "script"; choosing locale, music, and décor; selecting wardrobe and sex toys; having "outercourse," and directing the man in his role. Though obviously aimed at women who wish to enhance their sex life, her suggestions are not as one-sided as the clever title might imply--she gives plenty of advice about playing out the man's fantasies, helping him feel comfortable using sex toys, communicating lovingly, and giving him great oral sex.

Royalle intersperses "Director's Notes," which are tips, cautions, and summaries of sexual information. Writing with humor, she warns readers about places not to make love: moving vehicle, woods (flies are attracted to perspiration), airplane bathroom. Although she promotes her own films overmuch, her tidbits about making porn films are entertaining, such as the behind-the-scenes reason that actresses keep their shoes on during sex--it's hard to keep their feet clean on the set! --Joan PriceDownload Description
No one knows how to bring women's sexual fantasies to life better than Candida Royalle. How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do: Sex Advice from a Woman Who Knows

Because of the title, I taught that this was a man oriented book in wich Mrs Royalle was doing us the favor or revealing "the secret" to please our women. It is more a women oriented book who tells the girls how to make sure they will get what they want...and asking in the most subtle way if they have to. I enjoyed the book for my part even if it was impossible for me to practice some of the "Tricks" we found in it but, If I ever have the chance to meet a girl who has read that book and who is becoming "subtle" with me, I will probably react much better and not asking myself "What is going on ?"
Don't get me wrong here, there are a few tricks for men but the book was created for women and teach how to get her men to do things she wants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers many important areas!
I really enjoyed this book. Ifound that it covers the many areas of sexuality that women want talking to. I liked how Candida personalized it, made it more authentic and very readable.

Book Description
George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was a worldrenowned Irish author. Born in Dublin, he moved to London when he turned twenty. Having rejected formal schooling, he educated himself by independent study in the reading room of the British Museum; he also began his career there by writing novels for which he could not find a publisher. His first success was as a music and literary critic, but he was drawn to drama and authored more than sixty plays during his career. Typically his work is leavened by a delightful vein of comedy, but nearly all of it bears earnest messages Shaw hoped his audiences would embrace. He remains the only person to have been awarded both a Nobel Prize (1925) for his contribution to literature and an Oscar (1938) for Pygmalion. Among his most famous works are: Candida (1894), Arms and the Man (1894) and Man and Superman (1902-03).Download Description
A fine October morning in the north east suburbs of London, a vast district many miles away from the London of Mayfair and St. James's, much less known there than the Paris of the Rue de Rivoli and the Champs Elysees, and much less narrow, squalid, fetid and airless in its slums; strong in comfortable, prosperous middle class life; wide-streeted, myriad-populated; well-served with ugly iron urinals, Radical clubs, tram lines, and a perpetual stream of yellow cars; enjoying in its main thoroughfares the luxury of grass-grown "front gardens," untrodden by the foot of man save as to the path from the gate to the hall door; but blighted by an intolerable monotony of miles and miles of graceless, characterless brick houses, black iron railings, stony pavements, slaty roofs, and respectably ill dressed or disreputably poorly dressed people, quite accustomed to the place, and mostly plodding about somebody else's work, which they would not do if they themselves could help it. The little energy and eagerness that crop up show themselves in cockney cupidity and business "push." Even the policemen and the chapels are not infrequent enough to break the monotony. The sun is shining cheerfully; there is no fog; and though the smoke effectually prevents anything, whether faces and hands or bricks andmortar, from lookingfreshandclean, itis not hanging heavily enough to trouble a Londoner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A True Gem of World Theatre
Like many writers at the turn of the 20th Century, Shaw was very much interested in "the woman question," for women were becoming increasingly independent and more of a challenge to men in both public and private spheres.Although he also addressed these issues in such other plays as PYGMALION and MAN AND SUPERMAN, CANDIDA is perhaps his clearest statement on the subject.Written in 1894, it is a statement that has proven timeless. It is easily among the favorite performance pieces of world theatre.

The plot is quite simple. The Rev. Morrell is a minister with a taste for reform--and he has had the good fortune to marry the perfect wife, a remarkable woman named Candida who has a talent for smoothing every path she encounters. One of the paths to which she has turned that talent is that of Marchbanks, a poetic young man who is the grip of all the emotional turmoil delayed adolescence implies. But Marchbanks has fallen in love with Candida, and when he informs her husband of this all hell breaks loose.

Throughout much of the play Morrell and Marchbanks engage in a series of brilliantly written duels over Candida, each of them espousing what Candida means to them and what they can give her, arguing through numerous philosophical issues in the process. But neither gentleman has actually troubled to consult Candida herself; when they eventually lay the issue before her and insist that she decide between them, she responds in a way that not only demonstrates how little they know of her, but how little they know about both women and the world in general.

The climax of the play has been dropping jaws in theatres for well over a hundred years and it seems likely that it will do so for at least a hundred more--and although Shaw presents his play as a comedy, it will be the rare husband who leaves it without a quick glance at his wife and the disturbed thought that like Candida, she may not be entirely what he has always believed her to be.Brilliantly written and reading as well on the page as it plays on the stage, CANDIDA is easily among the great plays of this or any other era; a personal favorite and very strongly recommended.

For most people, being diagnosed with candidiasis is like receiving a "sentence" of impending doom to eat bland, flavorless, monotonous foods in order to rid our bodies of the overgrowth of thenaturally-occuring bacteria called candida albicans, which many doctorsbelieve is the root cause of many debilitating diseases. For many years,it seems, one would need to endure 6 weeks to 6 months of this monotonousdiet in order to regain proper balance between these "bad"bacterias and the "good" bacterias in our intestines - andeventually regain our health and stamina. There has always been a need forrecipes to enhance the variety and enjoyment of eating that so many of usdesire in order to inspire us to stay on any new diet.Xandria Williamsnot ONLY provides us with a potpourri of these recipes, but gives a veryconcise and accurate description of the "Yeast Syndrome", whatcauses it, what the known symptoms are, and what to do to prevent it in thefuture. Her writing includes many clinical descriptions, however, shemakes all of it VERY easy to understand. The lists of foods to avoid, aswell as alternatives to those foods was a huge help for me.Many booksjust list foods to avoid......with no "alternatives" that wouldclosely replace those foods in our daily diet.I recommend this book toanyone who needs to know more about coping with candidiasis and loves tocook. ... Candida albicans is a yeast that exists inside all of us. Normally it presents no problems, but today's widespread use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, contraceptive pills, and steroids, as well as a sugar-rich diet, can cause a proliferation of this parasitic yeast. This can often be the root cause of a wide variety of problems such as depression, anxiety, irritability, bloatedness, heartburn, tiredness, allergies, acne, migraine, cystitis, and menstrual problems. Leon Chaitow, using the latest research and his own clinical experience, shows how to determine if yeast is your problem and provides a comprehensive, non-drug program for its control.

As long as Americans stay on thier typical diets of antibiotic laced meat, sugar and processed foods they are headed for a condition they would not wish upon thier worst enimies. 4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to candida albicans.
I had already been diagnosed with candida albicans when I had the good fortune to find this little book.I read it in one sitting and was released from years of guilt and confusion over my uncontrollable emotions. I learned that emotional instability, among many other symptoms, was dueto the candida.I am purchasing multiple copies of this book to give to myfamily and friends because it is an excellent and easily understood tool topresent candida albicans to people who have never heard of it.It is notthe definitive work on the subject but it has enough information to get yougoing. The natural course of curing candida is much more successful thanusing pharmaceutical drugs and this book touches on that area.I wish thatthere was more information on curing candida in this book but other thanthat, it was extrememly helpful and encouraging.

Book Description

Candida Höfer creates meticulously composed images of public and institutional spaces marked with the richness of human activity, yet largely devoid of human presence. Whether a photograph of a national library or a lounge at Volkswagen's headquarters, Höfer's images ask us to conduct distanced, disengaged examinations through the windows she creates. The collected images present a universe wholly constructed by human intention, unearthing patterns of order and logic imposed on these spaces by their absent creators and inhabitants.

The Architecture of Absence examines Höfer's oeuvre and its relationship to the work of other noted students of renowned professors Bernd and Hilla Becher. An exhibition of this work will open at the University Art Museum at California State University, Long Beach in January 2005, and travel to the co-organizing museum, the Norton Museum in Florida, among other venues.

5-0 out of 5 stars a calmed, laconic, maybe social phobia- attitude ...
A quiet humor wanders like a ghost through the laconic photos of Candida Höfer -- no people can be seen but via the devices of the rooms, libraries, hotels, halls, museums, canteens -- one can suspect still the existence of human beings indirectly. With a similar humor understanding the physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg once wrote: "If the posterity of the year 35.000 (or another planet's class of sensible nature) would find a lady suit completely undone and if they wanted to determine the figure of the ladies who would have been covered with that, -- what figure would come out?" The aesthetic experiments of the German Photographer Candida Höfer activate such associations. One of her book publications is entitled "Room Monuments" (of course without any human being). Before the beginning of her studies (learning from the renowned professors Bernd and Hilla Becher in Duesseldorf, Germany) Candida Höfer had taken photographs of Turkish fellow citizens in business, tea-rooms and parks. The people then disappeared from her photos. Was this the bad influence of her studies with the married couple Bernd and Hilla Becher, who had photographed only the industry architecture of the German Ruhr district maniacally (stubbornly ignoring all that connections between Nazi-politicians and steel-industry, around Hitler and Krupp, Goebbels and Thyssen) ? Or is there hiding a shock, Candida Höfer experienced, as the role of her father, Werner Höfer, a famous TV-talkmaster in the 1960's, was criticized by investigating journalists, checking his own role in the Nazi-era? Did this chase the daughter in a kind of social phobia? Although there is a coffee-table book of Candida Höfer with live (locked in zoo animals) she mostly prefered to make pictures of prepared, dead animal bodies in museum collections. Is such a misanthropic distance necessary to create a counterbalance against traumata, suffered by the modern mass culture? Writers like Canetti (Austria) or Saul Bellow (USA) reacted with comparable feelings -- or philosophers like Arthur Schopenhauer (Germany) or Ortega y Gasset (Spain). Perhaps there is a third evident explanation of Candida Höfer's decision how to work (besides the Becher-studies and the father trauma): the minimalist aesthetics theory of the Bauhaus tradition; quiet, empty rooms help to fulfill a meditative, calmed, laconic life-style attitude -- a task to which the painting of Piet Mondrian or Josef Albers also felt obliged -- why not photography as well?

2-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Titled
As with other Becher students, Hofer's images are captivating because of their expansiveness and detail - neither of which are reflected in the layout of this book. The images are tiny for no apparent reason. This effectively reduces Hofer's amazing work to a series of oversized postage stamps.

Unless the design is intended as a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment of the title, this dilettante overview is a miserable failure.

I suggest purchasing Candida Hofer, A Monograph. It is large, bold and a substantial compendium of her work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Devoted to the sweeping images themselves

The collaborative work of Constance W. Glenn, Mary-Kay Lombino, and Virginia Heckert, Candida Hofer: Architecture Of Absence is a spectacular full-color monograph featuring the photos of Candida Hofer, who has taken snapshots of cultural centers such as libraries, museums, theaters, cafes, waiting rooms, universities, and churches for over thirty years. The images reveal structures created to gather, organize, and perpetuate human purpose. An introductory essay guides the reader through the photographer's intent and efforts in capturing such locations on film, but the majority of Candida Hofer: Architecture Of Absence is simply devoted to the sweeping images themselves - empty of people at the time the picture is taken, yet showing rows of seats or broad hallways just waiting to be filled. This is an exceptional and welcome addition to architectural as well as photography collections.

This book was useful for a number of things - easy cooking directions, lots of recipes, and information on how to set up a rotational diet.Additionally it includes basic instruction for those of us (me!) who don'tcook.

It did seem to introduce sugar a bit soon to the diet as comparedto other books and it did not incorporate other good nutritional theory asa base (such as food combining, acid/akaline theory, blood type theory,etc.).I used much of the information in this book, but modified it toincorporate things that work for me, such as not combining carbs andprotein in one meal, limiting certain foods like tomatoes, using vegetableglycerin for a sweetener, and etc.

Other very good references are TheBody Ecology Diet (Gates), the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook (Martin),The Candida Control Cookbook by Burton, and The Cure for All Diseases (Dr.Clark).

A tip:Go slow & don't overwhelm yourself with all this newinformation at one time! It's a big change to go from limited time in akitchen to spending most of your free time cooking.I've found it helps tocut out as many social obligations as you can while you rebuild your immunesystem and it really helps to pray for the strength to stick with thechanges you want to make!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book
I read this book from cover to cover recently and found it very helpful. Most of the books out there on Candida are written by doctors and they write about what they know NOT what you need to know. The authors spent a lot of time including the tidbits of knowledge that you won't find anywhere else and the book is truly geared toward helping solve the entire problem. I have read all of the other books on this topic and this one is much more helpful and resourceful. Thanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect (nothing is)
Very good book.It covers the ins and outs. But it's the tip of the iceberg.I could add:Your immune system is the problem.Candida is an effect of something else, not a cause. They key lies in your Adrenals. If they are damaged, there goes your immune system's ability to fight Candida.Candida is like a cold. It's not really an illness in itself, rather, a way in which your body warns you to slow down.Your body warns you by stages.Candida could be considered stage 2.Don't let yourself get so immuno-compromized that you get to stage 3 (because it could be Crohn's or Cancer).
A lot of people think they go on this diet for a year or two, and then all is well and we can dive right back into the world of McDonald's, ice-cream and booze. It's like a cocaine addict saying "I'll get clean for a year or two." The fact is:Your body didn't like the ice-cream, fast food and boooze because it was NEVER MEANT to have it.If your car needs 93 octane and you give it 80 it will work at first, then it will start to knock, and eventually you'll damage it. And if you give it 100 octane, you'll burn it. Same goes for your body, pal.If you can no longer tolerate Candida (plain old yeast), it means that YOU NEVER WILL AGAIN (and you never really did, so it was just a matter of time before something went wrong). That is what this book fails to tell you. You have been consuming yeast and refined sugar all your life and you never should have.Simultaneously you have been damaging your adrenals all your life with caffeine and what-not and you shouldn't have. You've been taking fermented junk (like vinegar and wine and raisins) and you shouldn't have.THE BIG QUESTION:WHY ME????
It's genetics.That's what you and I got handed.So let's deal with it.
Recommended: Buy this book.
Buy Eat Right For Your Type by D'Adamo, so you can know what your blood type and race are (and are not) supposed to eat.
Get an ELISA/ACT allergy test (nothing damages your immune system more than every day eating something you are allergic to).
Stop all sugars (including fruit) for two years (after two years, you can have two pieces of fruit every day, three is pushing it).
Discontinue all fermented food like cheese, vinegar and alcohol FOREVER.Fermented is equal to septic.(As far as YOUR body is concerned).Remember the 80 octane scenario...
Buy an ozone generator (to get rid of mold in your house, because if you have Candidiasis, you are allergic to mold, period).
Consume VAST amounts of probiotics (Acidophilus and Bifidus BOTH).
Have vitamin B complex and magnesium (spread out the Magnesium and watch it, because too much equals diahrrea).
Keep a perfect routine.(of meals and rest).
Check yourself for Gluten intollerance (wheat, oats, etc...).
Once you get yourself balanced, you'll feel better than you ever did (because for the first time in your life, you'll be eating the way Nature meant you to).
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!Certain aspects of modern society have failed us miserably. Our diet is one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars An eye-opener!
This is one of the most comprehensive books on candida I've read. Covers everything from defining what it is, how it can get out of control, risk factors and symptoms. Clearly presents information on the various treatments including dietary and lifestyle changes, herbals, prescriptionsmeds and supplements. A good, general education on candida-related complex.
