Book Description
In Mrs. Warren's Profession, Arms and the Man, Candida, and Man and Superman, George Bernard Shaw satirizes society, military heroism, marriage, and the pursuit of man by woman. From a social, literary, and theatrical standpoint, these four plays are among the foremost dramas of the age-as intellectually stimulating as they are humorous. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of GBS
This should be required reading just for the "Don Juan in Hell" act of Man and Superman --an excerpt"Your friends are all the dullest dogs I know. They are not beautiful: they are only decorated. They are not clean: they are only shaved and starched. They are not dignified: they are only fashionably dressed. They are not educated: they are only college passmen. They are not religious: they are only pewrenters. They are not moral: they are only conventional. They are not virtuous: they are only cowardly...."

One of my science teachers recited this famous speech in the lab one day, just to show off, and I started appreciating Shaw. Funny thing is that of all the playwrights, GBS is the best just to read. Except for Pygmalion and maybe Arms and the Man, most of Shaw's plays are too "talky" to stage well, but read like short stories. If you haven't read them, you are in for a treat.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Shaw Overview
This would be an excellent collection to have for anyone looking for a taste of Shaw's basic philosophies about socialism--and of course, a good way of finding out how his writing suits you.

Some thought provokingsocial statements are made in all four plays, though some of the prefacesmight be more informative about the author than the plays themselves. Greatwitticisms and depsite the sometimes heavy philosophy, the reading is lightand quick. The last play, Man And Superman, perhaps his most significantplay in terms of philosophy, pure and simple, would be fun reading but thesocialist's handbook given at the end would definitely not be everyone'scup of tea, unless they're philosophy students. This can be skipped withoutspoiling the play though, which contains some of the most excellentdialogue I've come across in a play with philosophical overtones.

AllOscar Wilde and Chesterton lovers would appreciate the epigrams and thewitty one-liners. If for nothing else, Shaw is worth reading for his lovelystyle of execution, the flowing conversations and some uncanny insight. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best cookbook
As someone who is new to the candida world the information provided was extremely useful. The recipes on the other hand left much to be desired.I am an avid cook and had to ammend the recipes I tried in order to make them somewhat palattable. Some like the baking, were unfixable and had to be discarded. Some of the combinations suggested are absolutely unthinkable. If you are looking for good background information on candida this is a great book.If you are looking for great recipes, try something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best candida diet I have ever tried...
This book is amazing.I have suffered from candida overload for 20 years (I had tried diet and alternative medicine many times) and it had developed into chronic fatigue - I was struggling to get to work each day. After reading her book, I hired a nutritionist from Ms. White's business (we converse via e-mail - ... and took the supplements recommended and carefully followed her four point plan and diet.I am, at only one month, feeling great - out of bed and on the move! All my pains are gone, my sinuses and acne are clearing up, I have lost 20 pounds, even my fungal toenails are clearing up.I still have to stay on the diet a year at least, but it is very much worth it.None of the other methods have worked as well as this. This thorough and complete program really works and I can't recommend this book and her program enough.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much use, really
A lot of Christian tosh interspersed with some useful information about practical steps to take to get Candida under control. The recipes are useless for people following food-combining or gluten-free diets.Overall, I wish I never bought it.

Book Description
The German city of Weimar, home to illustrious Renaissance and Baroque artists such as Cranach and Bach, became a major place of pilgrimage in the 18th century. With her famous library and with distinguished literary circles, Duchess Anna Amalia laid the foundations for the flourishing of literary expression in the city. Her son, Duke Karl August, called Herder, Goethe and Schiller to his court. With them, Weimar became the center of German intellectual life, the "city of poets and thinkers"--a reputation Weimar has nurtured to the present day. For her libraries project, Candida Hofer photographed the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in 2004. Shortly afterwards it fell victim to a fire. In summer 2006, she focused on historic interior spaces: the Goethe National Museum, the Residential Palace and other castles, as well as various theaters. Hofer's photographic style perfectly captures Weimar's special aura. Her strictly composed pictures seem to contain the spirit of the Enlightenment. ... Read more

Book Description
The third of Candida Lawrence's memoirs, Fear Itself rises from her life-long awareness of human fragility. A survivor in the truest sense and a woman of greatest personal resilience, Lawrence traces her years struggling to have a child and her slow realization that she is a victim of governmental secrets and lies during the 1940's. Unwittingly exposed to low-level radiation, Lawrence learns to believe herself into wholeness and survive her disappointments until there is nothing left to fear--but fear itself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - the allergy/sensitivity testing is on the money
This book led me to read the ingredients on my toothpaste. Everyday, twice a day, I was sabotaging my health by brushing my teeth.Although Toms of Main toothpaste is a really great toothpaste (my dentist noticed my cleaner teeth), it is made with Xylitol - which as explained in the ingredients list is derived from Birch.I read the label on my toothpaste after using the testing techniques and finding not only a weak muscle, but that my whole arm went weak (from just holding the tube of toothpaste). According to my allergist Birch is my worst allergy. I no longer feel like falling asleep during the day (at least in the mornings after I would brush my teeth) and at night I am sleeping better.I am working on the Candida and other allergy issues now. Some of the directions get a little confusing but even his basic exercises are very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for anyone interested in health
This book is a must read for anyone interested in health, not just those with allergies or candida. It contains information you could spend years searching for plus insights from the author you will not find anywhere else.

I use the techniques in the book on a daily basis to increase my mental clarity and physical stamina.

If you are sick or just want to stay healthy and feel great, get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide For Getting Well
In the course of my more than 13 years of battling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I have read literally hundreds of "health books".I have come to judge these books on whether or not they contain useful, practical information, and if applying the information results in a significant improvement to my health. After reading this book and following the principles it explains, I went from spending days to weeks at a time barely able to get out of bed, to working fulltime and resuming a normal lifestyle. This is one of the very few books I have ever read that effectively addresses the usual collection of otherwise "incurable" chronic illnesses, which have become so widespread.I would wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in overcoming one of these chronic illnesses.Wishing you the best of health!

5-0 out of 5 stars The most complete book on ecological illnesses.
I suggest that all readers with ecological illness buy the 4th edition.Prof. Rochlitz is a genius in the way he explains ecological illness and why so many people don't get completely well from either orthodox or wholistic medicine. He makes many suggestions throughout the book of things you can do to get well onyour own, though he does caution that it is important to get to the root of the problem and not treat the symptoms.I know his ideas /techniques saved my family thousands of dollars in doctor bills and educated me about many bogus protocols that were only complicating my health.

As a teacher, I would also suggest this book for any parent or teacher who has children with learning problems.Prof.Rochlitz is a world leader on Brain Integration techniques. His suggestions should be standard in every regular and special education classroom.

The writer of the previous review obviously didn't read the same book I read or she couldn't quite grasp the ideas articulated. Actually she reviewed an older edition. Her advice doesn't make sense and is entirely out of context. The book isn't a recruiting tool to visit Prof. Rochlitz. Her mention of antifungals and parasites clearlydemonstrates her ingorance of the topic.Furthermore her list of other books suggest some of the last things seriously ill people need.

I suggest readers who want more information read some of Prof. Rochlitz' recent articles in the medical journal Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients or visit his website wellatlast.com.

2-0 out of 5 stars extremely informative but not very helpful
The author is very knowledgeable about candida and allergies and all the symptoms that they cause. He is even correct that you have to get more exercize, adjust your diet, eat no sugar so you won't feed the candida, etc.

The book also suggests energy balancing of numerous types. These may work but are only temporary as the author himself states
unless you go to his clinic to be treated with kinesiology and antifungals. I was under the impression this was a book to help yourself not a 250 page advertisment on why you should go to his clinic.

I have been down the take the anti-fungal road before and this is only temporary as yeast and parisites are opportunistic and only hang around if there is wastes (undigested food, toxins, etc)
to eat.

Four books I would recomend more are:
"Why grass fed is best" by JO Robinson
"Nourishing Traditions" by Salley Fallon
"The master Cleanser" by Stanley Burroughs
and
"The Wonders of Colloidal Silver" by Dhyana Coburn

The first two listed are about the role the modern diet has
in Chronic illness. The third tells you how to clean your body
of toxins and the last is about a super non-toxic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-virus, anti-whatever is bugging you liquid. It was used before the almighty anti-biotics
were invented.

There are better choices. ... Read more

Book Description
Candida Höfer: Paris Opera

Candida Höfer's works have something timeless about them, and opera is perhaps the most timeless cultural delight. Having dedicated a photographic series to the cathedrals of knowledge that are libraries, Höfer in her most recent cycle captures opera houses, the palaces of performing arts. Höfer's earlier pictures of public spaces—libraries, lecture halls, museums, meeting rooms—forever devoid of people, made us sense the presence of those absent. Her opera photographs take us one step beyond: empty foyers, orchestras, stages, wings, and boxes make us imagine both theprotagonists—performers and audience—and the fictitious figures, plots, and places that populate these venues during a night at the opera. In her most recent publication Candida Höfer portrays two Paris opera houses that are exemplary for their age and time: the neoclassicist Palais Garnier (1875), original Phantom of the Opera site, and the modern-style Opéra Bastille (1989).

Text by Gérard Mortier

Candida Höfer, born in Eberswalde, near Berlin, in 1944, studied with Bernd Becher at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Along with numerous international shows, she participated in documenta 11 and represented Germany at the 2003 Venice Biennial.

Gérard Mortier was born in 1943 in Ghent, Belgium, where he studied law andcommunications. He served as a assistant to Christopher Dohnányi and Rolf Lieberman in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Paris (1973-1980); director of the Brussels Opera Théâtre de la Monnaie (1981-1991); manager and artistic director of the Salzburg festival (1991-2001); director of the Ruhr Triennale (2002-2004); director of the Opéra de Paris since 2004.

5-0 out of 5 stars Conquer Candida: And Restore Your Immune System
This book was so sane!!!I can't believe what a difference it made and how it helped me to not only understand what candida was all about, but to conquer it as well and to help others do the same.Jack has a way of finding and communicating the truth in a way that is easy to understand and apply.I loved the way he spelled out all the things that contribute to candida.Who would have ever guessed some of them.Read it and find out!And in the book is a test you can take to see if you have candida yourself. Get his other books, too. They are all full of truth and wonderful life-saving, health-improving advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on candida with deeper insights made simple!
I'm biased because I am an admirer of Dr. Tips's books and have consulted with him personally. After years of fighting candida, and losing the fight, I read this book and learned the issue overlooked by all the otherbooks on this subject. Thus, because of the wisdom and insights of thisbook, I was able to cure myself of environmental sensitivities, foodsensitivities, and fatigue.I am thrilled to be able to be the first toreview it and hope others can benefit. ...
