Editorial Review

Book Description
This book encompasses basic and clinical reports on thecerebellum and its primary atrophic disorders, the cerebellardegenerations. Rapid progress has been made in understanding theorganization and function of the cerebellum at the neuronal, synapticand molecular level. Of particular importance has been theidentification of the chemical transmitters utilized by the cerebellarcellular systems. More than any other brain region the cerebellumutilizes amino acids as its main excitatory and inhibitoryneurotransmitters. Excitatory amino acid transmitters, in addition toserving neuronal communication, may also mediate trophic and toxiceffects and, as such, they may play a role in neurodegenerativeprocesses. This volume will be useful to clinicians who care for patients withcerebellar disorders as well as to the basic and the clinicalinvestigators whose work concerns the cerebellum. Knowledge ofadvances occurring in basic sciences will help the clinicalinvestigator to develop new approaches and therapeutic strategies forthese presently intractable human disorders. Also the basicinvestigator will benefit from the study of human disorders byidentifying new research leads provided by these intractable -- yetfascinating -- afflictions. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Help and easy to read
This book is about the author's story regarding her Ataxia disease.I become very knowledgable about this disease when my doctor tells me I have it.I find a lot of similiar things happened to me the author described in this book. Also, there are a lot of helpful tips and suggestion near the end of this book to help me cope with this disease. And it is quite comforting to know how other people deals with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Balancing Act-Living with Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia
It was comforting to read about the trials that another individual has had to deal with over the course of the years since being diagnosed. I too am affilicted with this dis-ease, several other neuro-diseases as well as being a disabled Veteran. I have kept journals but have not shared them with anyone other than close family members. Ms. Hamilton has helped me to take a step, so to speak, toward getting my experiences out in the open. Thank you Ms Hamilton for your courage and determination. I empathize with you on so many levels.
