5-0 out of 5 stars The #1 Resource for Valley Fever Sufferers
Most doctors don't understand valley fever.States, cities and local governments in the endemic areas don't want to understand valley fever.Residents and visitors to endemic areas rarely understand the risks, symptoms, prognoses and treatments associated with valley fever. This debilitating and potentially deadly condition generates more questions than answers but finally, there is a resource available to help valley fever sufferers and their families navigate through the maze of myths and misinformation that make this awful condition even worse to deal with.As someone afflicted with valley fever, I am grateful to Sharon and David Filip for their passion in researching and writing this masterful reference guide. They have created a tremendous resource filled with impeccably researched data and personal accounts of survivors of this poorly understood disease.Their total commitment for the advocacy of public awareness and government funding for a vaccine or cure adds even greater value to this book.I highly recommend it as a must-read for valley fever sufferers, their families, residents and those who might plan to visit endemic areas, medical practitioners and government officials who have an interest in facing the truth about valley fever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Valley Fever Information
I was recently diagnosed with Valley Fever and I was amazed at how many doctors and the medical system in whole don't know about this disease.

The book was very informative and answered alot of questions for me.It gave me the change to catch up on a range of topics, treatments and side effects for Valley Fever.

5-0 out of 5 stars You should know about this
Valley Fever, a deadly disease which can be caught easily, is almost unknown to people living in the endemic area, the Southwest! As a result, diagnosis is inconsistent, and medical care is worse. As a survivor, I was thrilled to learn of this book. My doctors, although well meaning, gave me little information about the disease, perhaps because they know little about it themselves. I am a firm believer in patient's advocating for themselves and this book is a tool to help one do so. However, I don't think people ought to wait until they have VF to buy the book.I believe everyone in the Southwest should know about it and be prepared to ask their medical advisors to test for it should they have unusual symptoms which do not clear up with conventional therapy. It can effect both humans and pets, and the results can be devastating. Delays in diagnosis and treatment can cause problems which last a life time. For you and your family's sake, buy and read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Valley Fever Epidemic
This Valley Fever infection has the potential to do great harm in communities all across the Southwestern part of the U.S.My Sister (Tucson) had debilitating lung problems. She was misdiagnosed which added to the delay in treatment. Her lung tissue is now permanently scarred and marginally functional. This fine book covers all aspects of the disease and is well worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!!!!!
Your life depends on this very well-written book, explaing the hideous disease of Valley Fever.I found the book to be written in layman's terms and easy to understand.I would recommend it to anyone who lives in the endemic area or who would be going to visit the Southwest. The book has a wealth of helpful resources and how to get the best medical care and medications for anyone afflicted with this ravenous disease.I am so greatful for this book -- I can't believe it has not received more recognition! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Medical Glossary Anyone Can Understand!
Even being in the medical field myself it is hard to understand what doctors are really saying at times.I really feel sorry for the lay people in this situation, as they are probably so confused they don't even know what to ask.

I highly recommend The Official Valley Fever Survivor Medical Glossary to everyone. You don't have to have Valley Fever to benefit from this book. The beginning of the book explains what valley fever is about and the endemic areas. It also has a section called Dawn to Dusk, which explains what weather conditions may increase or decrease the chances of contracting this deadly disease.

The large glossary comes next and it is very easy to understand and compliments the first book written called Valley Fever Epidemic. Many of the words in this glossary could be related to several health issues as well. For example, the word prognosis relates to the outcome of a medical problem so it can be used with any diagnosis. As I mentioned above, you don't have to have Valley Fever to benefit from this book.

At the end of the glossary is some very good reference information about where you can find organizations and internet information related to valley fever. You can also find information about a vaccine being worked on in Texas and research on a new medication being worked on in Arizona. If you've not read Valley Fever Epidemic this book is a must have.It has awesome reviews written by several prominent Valley Fever medical professionals.

If you don't need to breathe then no worries. :)However, if you do need to breathe I highly suggest you read both these books, The Official Valley Fever Survivor Medical Glossary and Valley Fever Epidemic. This disease is something to worry about. You just don't know it yet.Why wait? Linda Evins, RN and Valley Fever Survivor.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO Ma'am
I boring read.I got grossed out during the beginning of the book.I figured the book would be a great read if the author developed the plot.Well of course it wasn't.I think the book belongs at the bottom of a trash can.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stranger than Fiction
This was a very strange novel but refreshing in its metaphor and beauty. It reminded me of "The Metamorphosis" a novel written by Fran Kafta where a man turns himself into a insect after being abused and taken advantage of by his indifferent family and company where he was employed. Reading this book made me suspect that the author himself sought to save himself from the everyday insults of being black and gay by giving birth to a new life, hopefully, freed from the racism of the straight world, indifference from the gay white world and benigh neglect from members of his own race and class. I only wish there were more writers like this guy around creating literate that is not afraid to go beyond "Dick and Jane" fiction and challenge conventional belief. My hat goes off to Mr. Owens for a job well done. I'm sure somewhere, the late great writer, James Baldwin is saying, "You go Brother!"

1-0 out of 5 stars Where can you find a Zero rating when you need one?
There are some novels that you know from the first page will be a waste of time.Promising writers can manage to entice a reader to hang in there after the first ten to fifteen pages, mediocre writers might take sixteen to twenty pages to do it while the abysmally untalented could trick you into false hope within the first chapter; but when you know from the first five pages that a story has taken off, crashed, burned, and ready for burial, well I don't know what type of writer could do that. Not much interested in spending any time writing about the "plot" or "characters" as this story is so implausible and the writing so puerile that it doesn't warrant in-depth review (that would falsely imply that there was some depth to the novel). Jeffery Mingo's review below is more analysis than the novel deserves and I agree with him completely. I can't believe I paid full price for this dreck!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Song of A Manchild
I read and then re-read Durrell Owens groundbreaking novel. The Song of a Manchild is a great book that exemplifies magnificent creativity in imaginary fiction writing. The story line is so engaging and thought provoking, you begin to visualize the story as being a possible reality. It's humor is so funny it makes you laugh, it's spiritual context is uplifting, and the rebirth is triumphant.

I was moved by Mr. Owens narrative powers as a writer in this book. The dialogue, pace, tone, and tenor of the book reminds me of the way fiction is written by other great famous fiction writers.

Additionally, it's not a wonder that The Song of a Manchild was nominated by Lambea as best male gay fiction.I wish more fiction stories can be produced with such conviction as Mr. Owens has shown in his novel.

I believe Durrell Owens is well on his way of becoming one of the best known fiction writers of the 21st century.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Song of a Manchild
I have not completed the book as yet but so far it is very interesting & intertaining. ... Read more
