A Must Read!!!
As a school counselor, I think that every elementary, middle, and high school counselor should have a copy of Conquering Eating Disorders on their shelves, and even one to give away.This non-threatening, easy to read, and very informative book caputres the essence of this illness.I love the realistic examples, written in story format; the amazing information about eating disorders weaved creatively in the processing; and the "what to do" for parents and then their teens after each chapter.I am so impressed with this book!I have read several on eating disorders, but none have truly captured my attention and promotion as this one.The chapters are short and easy to read in one sitting, and ideal for even teens and their parents to read it together.

This book promotes the positive role that school counselors play in a child's life, and I believe that after reading it, you will become more aware and a better advocate for those struggling with eating issues.Five stars, definitely!!!!!

Student Perspective on text
I am seeking a dual certification in Special Education/General Education with a Middle School Endorsement in Science and Social Studies. This text is one of the better ones I have seen-The information is first and foremost arranged in a brain friendly manner. The companion website is VERY helpful. I have been using the powerpoints on the companion website to help guide my reading and I print them out in the outline format.
This way I can pick out the main ideas in each chapter and unit and they act as a study guide. i like the flashcard and memory games that are also available. The quizzes are awesome, because the questions are always different. My first Unit Exam is Tuesday, so we'll see if these study methods/practices are working-however I actually feel pretty confident-there are a lot of vocabulary words, but the text does a great job of not using an overwhelming amount of professional jargon-I will be keeping this text to add to my professional resource library. I would recommend this text for any educator who is learning about the Response to Intervention Process as well as general and special educators-pre-service and practicing. It helps identify the physiological and psychological etiologies of speech and language development and provides typical developmental milestones in a progressive and systematic deliniation. Great Book for Prospective Researchers
This is a fairly easy to read textbook that surveys pretty much all aspects of research.It's focused on speech-language pathologists and audiologists in its case examples, but it's a useful resource for almost anyone in health professions or education.It contains lots of references, internet resources and historical perspectives.Somethings that you don't see in many books of this sort.The many diagrams, exhibits and clinical notes are very useful and help in understanding the subject matter.The section on animal research and models is excellent as is the chapter that targets evidence-based practice and all the issues surrounding it.Overall, the book is easily read, understandable, and useful for insuring current knowledge of all the research issues for clinical practice areas.It is highly recommended for students, practitioners, and others interested in research today. ... The nice thing about this book is that is is related primarily to AAC and Autism. Most books will have a chapter on the topic which often does not help.
