Product Description
Irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, colitis, hepatitis, heartburn—these are only a few of the gastrointestinal disorders that affect tens of millions of Americans. Despite their prevalence, these conditions have proven difficult to treat with standard medical approaches. In this updated guide, Andrew Gaeddert offers a wealth of natural remedies and lifestyle changes that have helped thousands to alleviate symptoms and heal their bodies, one step at a time. Drawing on his extensive clinical experience, Gaeddert covers such topics as herbs and vitamins, Chinese medicine, meditation, and environmental triggers that affect digestion, helping the reader make sense of the daunting array of natural healing techniques.

Case studies illustrate how the author’s clients were able to reduce or eliminate their digestive problems, enjoy greater energy, and reduce discomfort by learning how to identify food sensitivities, develop a tolerance for certain foods, prevent negative reactions to food, and use rotation diets and anti-candida strategies. This authoritative, accessible guide offers new hope for the one out of three Americans who will have a digestive disorder in their lifetime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Digestive Disorders
WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK AND WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT IT

Healing Digestive Disorders has been used by thousands of people to improve their digestive health,
understand their symptoms, and get on the path to healing. There are suggestions for self treatment
for common disgestive symptoms, as well as resources for those wishing to heal from serious digestive
disorders such as Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease, and the effects of chemo and radiotherapy.
The methods in this book have prevented some people from surgeries, others from taking toxic drugs, and
almost everyone has found some benefit. It is different from most digestive books in that it written
by a former patient, it is comprehensive, and the author although not a doctor has a wealth of
clinical experience-- Andrew Gaeddert

1-0 out of 5 stars Just an advertisement for his pills
I wondered why this book had no reviews, but got it anyway at the suggestion of my Dr. (who I am also not thrilled about).
This book is nothing more than a very simple skimming/definitions of things you can get off the web, PLUS LOTS of information about how you can be cured if you just take the line of pills he sells. It is simply a way to sell his pills.
He is not a Dr., and has simply "studied with" herbologists, etc.
If your Dr. sells these pills (can't be bought at a store and are multilevel marketed-meaning expensive) they will have info sheets on them. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of good information
This was full of good information but I was disappointed it didn't cover GERD in more detail and explain more about how to treat it at home WITHOUT antacid medications.I was so hoping I would find out more about this topic having dealt with GERD for the past 5 years.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
An awful lot of advice....but nothing exacting. Don't think you are going to read this and be able to cure yourself. A lot of medical info is wishy-washy and often contradicted from one chapter to the next. With thelevel of chinese medicine he is recommending...you still need aprofessional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why I wrote this book
I wrote Healing Digestive Disorders to give hope to millions of digestive patients who are frustrated with their health.HealingDigestive Disorders has hundreds of effective treatments using Chinese and western herbs, supplements, diet and lifestyle tips, and an overview of western medicine.I suffered from both Crohn's disease and IBS. Product Description

The first cookbook on this hot health topic

Trillions of bacteria naturally occur in the intestines, and most help protect the body from disease. These protective bacteria are called probiotics. Foods that nourish these "good" bacteria are called prebiotics.A number of factors can upset the balance between the levels of "good" and "bad" bacteria. There is evidence that consuming foods that are rich in "good" bacteria as well as foods that nourish these bacteria may help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the intestines and help improve health and fight certain diseases, like heart disease and cancer. This cookbook is organized by prebiotic and probiotic food recipes. Each of the 100 tasty recipes include instructions for properly cooking and storing food to preserve optimal levels of good bacteria.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better books on probiotics
I ordered this book because the author lives not too far away and if I liked what she had to say I'd make an appointment to see her. I never made the appointment.

I'd recommend Probiotics Revolution and Bacteria for Breakfast (which needs an index).

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice compendium of pre/probiotic recipes with good health info
This is a really nice book with many pictures and recipes. The recipes are easy and look delicious. There are early chapters with a lot of excellent info on the role of probiotics for health. It's really a lovely book that was put together to be easthetically pleasing as well as informationally useful. If you need probiotics in your diet, this is a good book to have. The recipes won't necessarily work miracles for your health by themselves but they will inform you on how to enhance your diet with foods that have pre/probiotic qualities. The only criticism I'd have of it would be that the recipes aren't as potent for probiotics as could be designed by let's say a real master, perhaps an experienced herbalist who cooks for healing. That would make it a much better book. So don't get your healing hopes up too high when you get this book. I have a book on chinese medicine that has a few recipes for healing in it that really work-- that's what I mean. Other than that, this is a fine book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
Probiotic and Prebiotic Recipes for Health is an excellent book to read if you are looking to improve your digestive system and health with practical tips, guidelines and recipes. They say your digestion is the engine that drives your bodies overall health, immune system, daily energy levels and protection against illness.Since I have food allergies and food intolerances, I found this book loaded with easy-to-read information that I am using to improve my own allergies. Now I'm not confused about all the differences and health benefits of yogurt, kefir, and the other varieties of fruits and vegetable for improving digestion. As a physical therapist, I will highly recommend this book to my patients who are suffering with digestive problems. ... Product Description
The complete resource for digestive health.

It's been said that health begins in the stomach. When digestion is not working properly, the whole body suffers. Skin rash, bad breath, headache, fatigue, overweight, and premature aging can all result from poor digestion-not to mention gastric disorders like heartburn, indigestion, and irritable bowel syndrome. But nearly half of digestive disorders can be averted with proper eating, exercise, stress management, and related lifestyle modifications.

In Natural Stomach Care , gastroenterologist Anil Minocha, M.D., combines the wisdom of traditional Eastern healing with the advancements of conventional Western medicine to offer a wide range of easy-to-use, affordable, and effective at-home natural therapies that can strengthen digestion, keep the colon clean and the bowels moving, and improve overall health. In addition to recommendations for overall digestive health, Dr. Minocha provides remedies for a host of digestive complaints. Treatments include healing Chinese herbs, Ayurvedic medicine, yoga, tai chi, probiotics, vitamin and mineral supplements, and lifestyle changes, making Natural Stomach Care an innovative, integrative approach to digestive health. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
really disappointed in this book. I went to a specialist and he told me many DO NOTS and this book is full of misinformation. wasted my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything one might try in 2003
The book is written in a very pleasant style. It contains a uniquely large number of possible ways to deal with most every stomach and intestinal issue. It was state-of-the-art in alternative (more so) and conventional medicine (less so), in 2003.Zinc Carnosine would probably be in his book if written in 2010.He writes in a style that provides a supermarket full of ideas and possibilities to try.No pat answers. If you are looking for a tour-de-force of straightforward ideas and facts that may contain the one(s) to resolve a gastro-intestinal issue, this is the book.He might cover in one page what another author might spend a whole on.Given that no one knows what will work, the multitude of options provides hope and guidance towards ones own experiments. He is empowering.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best of the books I got on this subject
got three books to help me fight my acid reflux, this one is the best of the bunch.practical advice, explanations, I recommend it highly!other books talk about what drugs etc but give me a break, once you've had acid reflux for a while, you have indeed tried everything on the market and already know if they will help you or not.this book offers realistic advice that you can follow, and IT WORKS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stomach Care
This book is so helpful to me with my IBS! Great suggestions for diet and supplements and care for my stomach.I really am glad I ordered it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly an excellent compendium of problems and solutions
I bought this book after seeing a list created by its writer, Dr. Minocha, and reading some reviews. It lives up to its description very well. My entire family has GI issues and/or diseases, so I'm pretty well read on both medical and alternative treatments, and this book covers the 'natural' remedies comprehensively. You are given sufficient information to use a remedy, and enough to give you the knowledge to pursue additional information if desired. And most importantly, in my opinion, in many cases Dr. Minocha explains WHY these conditions can exist and why these remedies should work.

I wish we had tried a few of these remedies we didn't know about before my husband had his entire colon removed. I am still going through this book and know it will have a special place on my medical books shelves. I plan to buy a copy for our (wonderful!) GI doctor. ... Read more

In addition to discussing traditional areas of nutrition, it presents essential findings on more recent and novel therapies.

Specific Therapeutic Approaches to Specific Digestive Concerns

Among the specific topics, it describes celiac disease and eosinophilic esophagitis and their management through diet. It considers the role of nutrition in treating acute pancreatitis and liver disease, the role of macro- and micronutrients in preventing colon cancer, and the role of nutrition and dietary supplements in inflammatory bowel disease. Among emerging topics, it considers —

  • Guidelines for the use of probiotics to ease irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea
  • Bariatric surgery for the treatment of obesity
  • Short bowel syndrome and small intestinal transplantation
  • Expanding metal stents used to overcome malignant obstructions of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract
  • Nutrition’s role in treating acute pancreatitis and liver disease

Chapters in the book are dedicated to modern approaches to nutritional assessment, parenteral nutrition, and home nutritional support. I actually had the privlige of meeting Dr.Tooshi when his diet clinc was located in Bayonne NJ. Dr.Tooshi is a kind man and helped me to lose 30lbs with his diet plan and recipes. I recently was frantically searching for those recipes and I couldn't find them. I was upset cause the diet worked for me. Dr. Tooshis clinc was long gone. I was browsing on the web and keyed in Dr. Tooshi just to see what happened and to my surprise i found him and his recipes in a book. I am truly overjoyed. Now i will have those recipes forever. 1-0 out of 5 stars This Book is a Joke
I purchased this book looking for a great reference on high fiber foods. What a mistake. This is basically a diet book which consists of a diet that you barely eat on and then some information on excersise and what vitamins to take.

No where were there any listing on fiber content even in the recipes which were really just low calorie. There is barely a mention throughout the entire book about the benefits of fiber.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deserves a place in any health or general collection!
The Whole-Food Guide to Overcoming Irritable Bowel Syndrome offers a blend of recipes and health tips for eating well with a digestive disorder. From natural relief for constipation and diarrhea to a greens recipe for those who hate leafy greens, this is packed with plenty of practical ideas blending nutrition and appealing dishes, and deserves a place in any health or general collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Step by Step Guide to Overcoming Digestive Distress
Digestive distress is rampant as we all steep in a post-modern toxic stew of environmental effluvia. If you, as I did, go to a gastroenterologist and are told "learn to live with the pain," Knoff's guide offers practical options for restoring your gut.A well-respected nutrition educator with a background in biochemistry, Knoff knows her stuff. The publication of her book is a great occasion, as digestive malfunction sufferers have typically had to piece much of what is covered here together (if they can) on their own.

Although a short book, The Whole Food Guide to Overcoming Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Strategies & Recipes for Eating Well with IBS, Indigestion & Other Digestive Disorders is jam packed with information and resources proven effective in reversing these debilitating disorders. For example, many health educators talk about "rotation diets" and lots of authors describe them in their books.Knoff, however, took the time to create simple-to-use, visual charts that clearly step sufferers through a rotation and challenge diet -- which is the first critical step an individual needs to take if s/he hopes to solve the mystery of the actual foods that trigger his or her specific digestive dysfunction. These charts alone are worth the price of the book.

In addition, Knoff provides background information and history, offers detailed analysis of how and why one's gut function may become compromised, and hands you recipes from soup to (soaked) nuts that will reinstate your interest in food while helping you to remove the foods that offend your body. This book can empower you to understand your affliction and guide you - or your loved one - back to full joy in eating and in life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Readable and Well Researched!
This book is addressed towards those dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but it would be of benefit to anyone who has digestive issues such as constipation, heartburn, diarrhea or a simply undiagnosed case of tummy troubles. It is clear, readable, has straightforward recommendations and tasty recipes.I will be sharing it widely with my network of healthcare colleagues and friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reference Book For Any Digestive issues
This book is not just for people who have IBS but anyone who has some digestive issues, and most of us have some things that are not working well in the way we are digesting and metabolizing the food we eat.Even someone with a healthy gut can learn more how to optimize and select foods that are healthy and nutritious. The chapter "Back to Basics" is packed with information on proteins, fats and oils, carbohydrates, and more... There is a very thorough self-assessment questionnaire to see how well your digestion is working (or not). Then the rest of this well-researched book really guides you toward improving your digestive health with delicious recipes. The chapter on "What To Eat?" gives you some sample meals and four-day rotation planning, tips for eating out, etc.And the amazingly good recipes that are carefully created to help people with IBS are easy and delicious. There is a very generous variety of recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and even desserts. They include fruit and green smoothies, yummy soups, and entrees that include fish, turkey, chicken and beef.My favorites are: Chia Fresca in the morning, breakfast patties, Laura's Fantastic Greens, Thai Chicken soup, Mineral-Rich bone broth, and so many more.Very easy, yummy and good for the tummy!I am recommending this book to many friends and family.Get it for yourself first! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars WORST BOOK FOR IBS
This book was a complete waste of paper. It has no recipes to help with IBS sufferers. There are a lot of dairy recipes and most IBS sufferers are lactose intolerant! How is that supposed to help us. Also the recipes are very DULL!! I sent this book back the day I got it. It was a waste of my time!!

1-0 out of 5 stars No Help At All
This book was completely unhelpful. There were no detailed eating orcooking guidelines, and most of the recipes had large quantities ofingredients that are intolerable for people with ibs (red meat, cheese, eggyolks, etc.).The recipes were also very unappetizing.
