What a remarkable book Vicki Noble has written about having a Down Syndrome child.Although she is little heavy on the "spiritual" level, anyone who has or knows a child with DS will embrace Aaron Eagle, the true star of this show!I'm glad this was the first book I came apon when learning my niece had DS. A " MUST HAVE" Book on Down's Syndrome
We purchased this book when our son was first born.It helped us a great deal.We were able to use this book to anticipate typical growth and development.This book is loaded with ideas on how to asssit your baby in sitting up, rolling over and basic techniques for posturing and strengthening baby.

Disappointed
This book tells of a grandmother's reaction to the birth and ongoing life of a down syndrome boy.I bought it in the expectation of learning something useful about another person's view of this syndrome.I was very disappointed as the book was very slight, ill written, and I learnt nothing of the little boy himself. His fears and pleasures and his joy or sadness in life were not touched on.I admire the grandmother's desire to share her experiences but for me they were too closely focused on herself .Basically when you could forgive the poor writing , the book was dull.I also have a grandson with the same syndrome and I learnt nothing new here.

Written in journal form, this tiny book tells of the trials and tribulations that a family experiences with a special needs child. It is written in first person and explores the emotional roller coaster of coming to grips and learning to accept this new child and all of his challenges. The story covers the period from birth to the start of school.

Although the book is directed at a specific demographic, it is a heart rendering tale and an informative read for everyone. The vocabulary and style are simplistic and remind the reader of a `chit chat' between friends, around the kitchen table.

Only 61 pages, it is a quick read.

In 1986, Martha Lev-Zion, a single woman in her 40s, heard about a TV documentary regarding 22 children with severe birth defects who had been abandoned by their birth parents in Israeli hospitals. This book is extraordinary. The author, Martha Lev-Zion, a single woman in Israel, adopted an unwanted Down Syndrome baby. Against odds, she refused special education for Tamar, who was mainstreamed for most of her classes.Martha worked continuously as well to teach her every day, such as having Tamar count each stair as they walked upstairs. Now that she is 20 Tamar is a friendly, cheerful young lady who can talk both Hebrew and English fluently, has many friends and holds down a regularjob. "No" is not in her vocabulary.I should know, because I met Tamar in May, 2006. This book should be must reading for any one dealing with a Down Syndrome child. Fantastic and uplifting story
This is a wonderful story of how perseverence and love can help "save" the life of a child who otherwise would be consigned to a life in an institution. The warmth and spirit of the author will be an inspiration to everyone but especially those raising a handicapped child. It is an amazing story of how a little girl, abandoned by her family because of being born with down's syndrome,is adopted by a single mother and given a chance for a normal life. good for primary grade classmates
I bought this book for my daughter's kindergarten class. Nice simple explanations of kids learning but slower, maybe needing help in class or other aids.
