Product Description
This new resourceful title in Plural's Protocol series is distinct from its' series companions in that it provides extensive background information and procedural overviews needed to assess swallowing disorders in adults in addition to offering the detailed protocols for administering the assessment. more than three-quarters of the protocols in this book are provided in both English and Spanish, allowing clinicians to effectively and efficiently assess swallowing disorders in a wide variety of patients. in addressing absence of effective clinical tools to reach the expansive Spanish-speaking clientele, and by reducing tedious treatment planning and preparation time, this dysphagia resource and collection of protocols provides clinicians with a complete one-stop English/Spanish guide.

All forms presented in the book are provided in user-friendly Microsoft Word documents on an accompanying CD-ROM, which clinicians are encouraged to modify and reproduce for clinical use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars State of the art dysphagia theory and practice from a master clinician
Rosenbek has delivered, as he's done with apraxia, dysarthria and aphasia, a classic text on swallowing disorders seen in Parkinsons and other mov't disorders and dysphagia generally. A perfect mix of theory and practice written with his usual wry flourishes that make it an insightful and enjoyable read. Rosenbek and Langmore seem to be the only 'heavyweights' in the field willing to argue for a more sensible approach to managing the risks of aspiration pneumonia that keeps patient quality of life paramount in the decision-making process. Chapter 4 includes an excellent, practical summation of the usefulness of the 1998 Langmore study on asp pna risk factors. This is a must-read for anyone in the field of dysphagia. ... Read more

Product Description
This is a comprehensive training pack for the use of speech and language therapists in the training of nurses.

The pack has been designed within an internationally recognized competency based framework which is familiar to nurse practitioners. It includes advice on how to set up the training course, handouts for each of the 10 competencies e.g. the normal swallow; causes of dysphagia; signs and symptoms of dysphagia. Course administration documents are included in the pack. Also provided is an evidenced based screening procedure and rationale with a structured testing format which allows assignment of standardized ratings for each competency assessed.

The course allows training at 2 levels. firstly a half day course to increase dysphagia awareness and secondly a one day course with subsequent testing of competencies to enable nurses to categorize ward patients into those who are safe or unsafe to swallow, and make basic recommendations for eating and drinking.SLT students can also be trained using this course. We feel the pack is a timely acquisition for any SLT department given the need for round the clock ward based screening for dysphagia. ... Read more

In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
Medical theory and practice of the 1700s developed rapidly, as is evidenced by the extensive collection, which includes descriptions of diseases, their conditions, and treatments. Books on science and technology, agriculture, military technology, natural philosophy, even cookbooks, are all contained here.

Product Description
This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to dysphagia (also Hypospadias-Dysphagia Syndrome; Sideropenic dysphagia), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on dysphagia. Given patients' increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). Hard-copy users of this sourcebook can type cited Web addresses directly into their browsers to obtain access to the corresponding sites. In addition to extensive references accessible via the Internet, chapters include glossaries of technical or uncommon terms. ... Read more
