waste of hard-earned cash
i bought this book hoping that it would give me new information about my alternatives. i was specifically interested in avoiding hormonal treatments for endometriosis altogether, through dietary change and acupuncture. iexpected to get some solid information from this book. however, much of theinformation presented by the author contained errors, and aside from abrief description of each type of alternative medicine she said nothing ofconsequence. most of the book consisted of peoples' personal stories, whichwould have been fine had they been balanced by some further explanations orhad any scientific basis. however, some of the people appeared to beself-diagnosed, some had many different conditions being treated at once,and others were using traditional treatments in addition to theiralternative therapies. so all in all i learned nothing i didn't alreadyknow, and i regret spending my money on this small volume. i am much moresatisfied with _the endometriosis sourcebook_, which i also purchased. thedifference in price was negligible but the difference in quality wasastounding.

A good book to read in your search for answers
The information in this book is helpful in understanding that there are treatments available that your medical doctor may not be aware of.Read it along with The Endometriosis Sourcebook and plan to take charge of yourbody.

I was diagnosed with endo a year ago.The first source I found was Mary Lou Ballweg and the Endo Association's The Endometriosis Sourcebook.If you don't have it, get it.Alternatives for Women with Endo is a wonderfulcollection of alternatives most medical doctors are unaware of.Althoughthe first half of the book, the explinations and definitions, is a bitthin, reading other women's actual experiences and SUCCESSES in dealingwith this disease has been absoluteley invaluable.Every woman diagnosedshould be given a copy of both books on their way out of the hospital. ... Make Yourself Better! Defy Your Doctors!
If your doctor tells you it is all in your head, buy this book. If you have heard, "Get pregnant and that will make you feel better," don't do it - buy this book first!!

There are alternatives to this disease. There are doctors who know it and understand it. And this book is a collection of current scientific data, medicines, procedures, diets and stories from women who are going through it, beat it, or found their own solutions to it.

This is the manual for women who suspect they may have this disease or for any woman who hurts too much every month with no explanation except... gee, take the pill. Don't! You have options!! Read this book and you'll hear about diet, excercise, laproscopy, acupuncture, and more, each with their own case studies of women who tried these answers.

Mixed in with the hard data and the emotional retellings of endo is the comic strip, "Joe with Endo" - where the man has the endo and hears the messages from a woman doctor. The reversal of roles shows the idiocy of the messages told to sufferers of this disease. It's great!
