Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Erythema Multiforme," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Erythema Multiforme in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Erythema Multiforme when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Erythema Multiforme, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Excerpt: Erythema nodosum (EN) (red nodules) is an inflammation of the fat cells under the skin (panniculitis). It causes tender nodules that are usually seen on both shins. EN is an immunologic response to a variety of different causes. Erythema nodosum usually resolves itself 36 weeks after an event, either internal or external to the body, that initiates a hypersensitivity reaction in subcutaneous fat. EN is frequently associated with fever, malaise, and joint pain and inflammation. It presents as tender red nodules on the shins that are smooth and shiny. The nodules may occur anywhere there is fat under the skin, including the thighs, arms, trunk, face, and neck. The nodules are 1-10 cm in diameter, and individual nodules may coalesce to form large areas of hardened skin. As the nodules age, they become bluish purple, brownish, yellowish, and finally green, similar to the color changes that occur in a resolving bruise. The nodules usually subside over a period of 26 weeks without ulceration or scarring. Dermatophytids are similar skin lesions that result from a fungus infection such as ringworm in another area of the body. Diagnosis is clinical. Product Description
The first attack of erythema multiforme can be alarming to the victim, who is often an otherwise-healthy young adult. In a typical episode, a symmetric pattern of round, red lesions suddenly appears, frequently on the extremities, and erosions develop in the mouth. Fortunately, the condition is self-limited. Unfortunately, it is usually recurrent, possibly because of the ongoing, subclinical presence of herpes simplex virus. In this article, Dr Katta summarizes the latest information on erythema multiforme and its management. Katta R. Taking aim at erythema multiforme: how to spot target lesions and less typical presentations. Postgrad Med 2000;107(1):87-90 ... Read more

From the author: An exanthem is defined as any rash which is associated with an infectious agent. During the past 6 years, molecular techniques have produced a revolution in clinical dermatology including the exanthems. The infectious agents responsible for many exanthems of previously unknown causes have been uncovered. Included in this review is an update of the rapidly changing spectrum of exanthems, and 10 examples of new viral etiologies of exanthems and two new bacterial exanthems that were recognized during the past 5 years.
