5-0 out of 5 stars Pathophysiology
This is a great patho book.I'm glad the class I'm taking required it.I have bought a lot of books for classes that were either way too detailed or less detailed than they needed to be.I really like this one.It may be a little more in-depth than the typical undergraduate student wants, but for me, it is just right.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absurdly complicated
I am two weeks into my pathophysiology class and am saddened and frustrated by the level of complexity of this textbook. Each paragraph, if not each sentence, is so dense that my classmates and I are already lamenting how little we expect to learn from this class.By the time I'm walking out the door of class I've either forgotten most of the wet cement of what I've read or am hopelessly confused by the deluge of terms. Most of my classmates are pre-nursing students (I am taking this as a pre-requisite to a physical therapy PhD) and so we are highly motivated to learn.Obviously, there are students out there who need this level of detail, but even for them, who could get through seventeen hundred pages of this?Perhaps the fault lies with whomever chose this book for lowly undergrads, and for a single semester class.Professors, please take heed.Give us a book from which we can learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I entered a graduate level nursing class with nothing more than high school biology (that was decades ago) and was presented with the daunting task of reading the entire book. I wasn't sure about successfully completing the course until realizing that this textbook was one of the best I've ever come across. The material was well-organized and the text easy to follow. The authors made good use of tables, illustrations, photos, and the like. I really appreciated bold-faced key words in the text. Each chapter concluded with a summary and a list of key terms including page numbers. Had I used another text, I might not have gotten an "A" in the course. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy!
The product arrived in better condition that expected before the expected date! The product was well worth the purchase! I would definitely buy from this seller int the future.

Editorial Review

Book Description
A compulsively readable explorer’s journal of the hidden territory of pain, as profound and insightful as the work of Oliver Sacks and Sherwin Nuland.

A bee sting on the lips was the tiny lance that set Marni Jackson off on a four-year exploration of the many ways in which we suffer. Exiled for an afternoon in the country called pain, she realized that no one had the words to describe her condition although it was as familiar as a headache. A fusion of emotion, nerve and memory, pain inspired only questions.

“Why do we still distinguish between mental pain and physical pain,” she asks, “when pain is always an emotional experience? Why is pain so poorly understood, especially in a century of self-scrutiny? Hasn’t anyone noticed the embarrassing fact that science is about to clone a human being but still can’t cure the pain of a bad back?” North Americans spend $24 billion a year on pain relief while chronic pain is on the rise. If pain is the reason why most people visit the doctor, why are most doctors so bad at addressing the problem of suffering?

Pain: The Fifth Vital Sign dives back into the history of pain and forward into the possibilities of pain genetics, bringing us stories of both people in pain and the pain pioneers: eccentrics and artists, wrestlers and writers, ministers and mothers, psychologists and philosophers, nurses and doctors. Marni Jackson has created a definitive, heartfelt, funny and beguiling portrait of a condition we can’t live with — and can’t live without. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An encouraging, comforting sort of book
I read this book and felt so encouraged.I have suffered with debilitating chronic pain for more than 4 years.Marni Jackson knows what those of us who suffer are going through. This book is a real page-turner for those interested in this ambiguous subject.Pain is such a vague, subjective experience and the author points this out through stories and anecdotes. Her witticisms and practical insights are true gems.I felt less alone in the world of chronic pain after reading this book.If you need a little encouragement, or know someone who does, please read this book.It is well worth the investment! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Reference bibliography
This is an essential bibliography as a reference to introducing students for the Plant Pathology science.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent text
This is an excellent introduction to plant pathology and the kind of book one tends to hold onto to use as a reference after finishing their coursework.I have known plenty of graduate students who've held onto their copies, and I've really never heard any serious criticisms of this book. The coverage is broad, and it will serve as a useful, interesting and highly readable reference for those with interests in bacteriology, virology, mycology, botany and a variety of other fields that overlap with aspects of plant pathology.Typically when I rate textbooks I am fairly harsh because the cost is generally high while contents often leave much to be desired. In my opinion this book is an exception, and I think the cost reasonably reflects the value of the information contained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gold standard for general phytopathology.
I have been out of Phytopathology since the fall of 1971.Over the years I have; from time to time; skimmed journals like Mycologia and Phytopathology. So the old urge came back and I bought this text on the recommendation of a friend.

This is an excellent text book on general plant pathology. The scope is extensive and I was delighted that a goodly portion of the book explores host pathogen interactions with a microbiological slant. My late, learned, and very noble professor, Dr. R. K. Hegde would have been thrilled to no end considering that the book generally follows his outlines of PL-PATH 600.Dr. Hegde Sir, whereever you are, remember that seminar in May 1968 on the basidiomycetous Fungi with Dr. C.S.Holton in the audience and your passioned pleas for more biochem data?Well those questions are explored to some extent in this book.

If you have any interest in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or plant science get this book. Most definitely a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Besttextbook on Plant Pathology
This is by far the best reference on the subject of Plant Pathology. It will be useful not only to plant pathologists, but to other plant scientists and biologists as well.George has done an excellent job in bringing his now famous textbook up to date.I have many books on Plant Pathology; this is by far the best. The fifth edition includes many new pictures and drawings to illustrate the concepts relating to diseases of plants.Plus many new sections dealing with the state-of-art of this science.George says this will probably be the last edition he will write. What a way to cap such an illustrious career!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Textbook
Agrios has upgraded and improved his classic Plant Pathology textbook. I own the 4th edition, and I was uncertain at first if I should buy the 5th edition. It was defintely worth it. Not only is there considerable new information, there are also many more helpful pictures and diagrams. Plus, many of the old graphics that appeared in black and white in the 4th edition are in color in the 5th edition. I highly recommend it. ... Read more
