5-0 out of 5 stars Spinward Fringe Broadcast 5:Fracture
America's Galactic Foreign Legion - Book 1: Feeling Lucky

It's an exciting fast paced story. The "Spinward Fringe" series is a good space opera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting better.
I have now read all of the First Light Series and up to Broadcast 5 of the Spinward Fringe set. I can see the writer is improving his craft with each new book and the reading is becoming smoother. However a bit more proof reading would be nice! Irritatingly it seems that a global search and replace has resulted in the word "control" being italicized in the current Kindle release. There are other large sections of text which have been italicized for no reason I can discern. Odd Capitalisation appears At random and can be distracting.

Overall I would recommend this writer to anyone keen on exciting, fast paced space opera.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent continuation
Don't start here.

Go to the beginning and start with Omnibus First Light Chronicals.Things will make much more sense if you read them in the order written.

Having said that, Randolph Lalonde continues writing excellent space opera with characters that you can believe in and care about. The interactions between characters is believeable and following their lives and progress is enjoyable.

The action in this, as all his books in this series is excellent. The space fights and descriptions of action on Triton during battle are compelling reading.

I look forward to more by this author

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Reboot to the Series
If you were planning to just jump into the series, you could pick up Fracture, and start right there without feeling lost. As he beginning of a contained trilogy, Fracture does a decent job summarizing the important parts of the previous books, without filling in all of the details. The characters remain entertaining, realistic (as much as they can be), and believable.

Although not as entrenching at Frontline, the book is definately worth chewing right through. Take your time, and build your way through. There are a tonne of seemingly minor details that show you important information that built the characters to their current standing.

For those not new to the Spinward Fringe series, Fracture may not be anything horribly atom-splitting. It is a wonderful step that re-introduces the series, solidifies the universe, and builds up the approaching conflicts. You'll laugh, you sit on the edge of your seats at parts, and if you're an emotional person, you may even get upset. Definitely another good addition to the series. ... Read more

Product Description
Composites offer great promise as light and strong materials whose uses are no longer confined to high performance structures. Their major advantages, which are true for almost all composites, are increased stiffness with respect to homogeneous materials and in increased strength to crack extension. However, their application is still limited by the lack of complete knowledge about their strength under different load conditions and the prediction of the damage evolution and the way cracks develop in these materials is still an important topic of research. This book contains recent developments and results in composite materials science, including contributions from well-known researchers in this specialist field. Both polymeric and metal matrix composites are included and investigated with experimental, analytical and numerical analyses. ... Product Description
Pascal Boyer argues that religion is largely an illusion. The anthropologist traces religion's cognitive and evolutionary aspects. By "religion" he means a kind of existential and cognitive "package" that includes views about supernatural agency (gods), notions of morality, particular rituals and sometimes particular experiences, as well as membership in a particular community of believers. The package, however, does not really exist as such. Notions of supernatural agents, of morality, of ethnic identity, or ritual requirements and other experience, all appear in human minds independently. This implies that there is no such thing as a conflict between science and religion. Boyer takes the reader onto a journey through science and the dissolution of religion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent reference for trauma
A complete trauma textbook a must have, this or Rockwood`s, in every orthopaedic surgeons library

4-0 out of 5 stars Expansive text on fracture management
As an alternative reference text to Rockwood and Green's Fracture in Adults, this voluminous guide breaks down fracture management according to anatomical location and incorporates viable contemporary methods of fixation, with focus on the author's preferred method of surgical prep and exposure. As the second edition (1998), it encompasses many of the new techniques of fracture repair, but like many texts is not completely current on all topics once released. The chapters on preoperative evaluation and stabilization of the trauma patient are particularly good. The photographs and illustrations prove appropriate. Deficiences: pediatrics, tumor, and foot and ankle...but these topics can certainly be addressed with other texts such as Ogden's Skeletal Injury in the Child or Lovell and Winter's Pediatric Orthopaedics by Morrisy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The new "bible" for fracture care
My program provided me with both Rockwood and Green as well as Browner and Jupiter's work and I consistently referenced Skeletal Trauma more frequently. It's more concise and provides the basics in an easy tounderstand format for the beginning orthopod. The pediatric edition isquick and easy to read but skimps on some important details andconceptsthat I feel are important for the neophyte, but the adult edition is abovereproach.Highly recommended.

This book covers the use of functional braces in the treatment of fractures. The authors' experience with functional bracing of several thousand fractures over the past 30 years clearly confirms the place and role of this treatment modality. Their experience, supported by extensive biomechanical and experimental animal research, indicates that the closed functional treatment of diaphyseal fractures of the tibia, humerus and ulna reliably produces satisfactory results in the majority of patients. The technology required for its implementation is uncomplicated. This reduces the cost of care significantly. An abundant number of representative clinical examples is used to illustrate the technique and to present scientific evaluation as well as clinical supportive data. ... Read more

Product Description
Fracture and "slow" crack growth reflect the response of a material (i.e., its microstructure) to the conjoint actions of mechanical and chemical driving forces and are affected by temperature. There is therefore a need for quantitative understanding and modeling of the influences of chemical and thermal environments and of microstructure, in terms of the key internal and external variables, and for their incorporation into design and probabilistic implications. This text, which the author has used in a fracture mechanics course for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, is based on the work of the author's Lehigh University team whose integrative research combined fracture mechanics, surface and electrochemistry, materials science, and probability and statistics to address a range of fracture safety and durability issues on aluminum, ferrous, nickel, and titanium alloys and ceramics. Examples from this research are included to highlight the approach and applicability of the findings in practical durability and reliability problems. ... Read more

Product Description
Since the advent of formal biblical criticism, many have come to see the crucifixion as merely one event in the process of religious development. Yet for the New Testament writers it was so much more, representing a radical break that forever affected their perception of God and the world. In this book Roy Harrisville examines the thought worlds of the New Testament writers, showing how the cross fractured their previously held ideas, causing a profound reorientation centered on the story of the cross. Focusing chronologically on Paul, the Synoptic writers, John, and the authors of Hebrews and 1 Peter, Harrisville demonstrates changes in the writers' understanding of sacrifice, law, Hellenism, apocalyptic, and other areas - changes that created the new values of the radically different Christian community. An insightful work of careful critical scholarship, Harrisville's Fracture will appeal to anyone interested in reviewing the New Testament's witness to that which lies at the heart of earliest Christian confession and which has provoked such bitter conflict in history. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Hermeneutical Cross
Harrisville says best what the book is about."[It] is the event of Jesus' death that creates the history of salvation and refers the Christian community to the Old Testament for an interpretation of its faith.Prophecy is thus rendered from Christ and not toward him.Methodologically speaking, this move was not of Christian origin. The community of Qumran, for example, could take a contemporary event for its point of departure and, like the Christian community, discover the Old Testament anew. What was new in the Christian community was its exclusive reference to the sufferings and death of Jesus of Nazareth as the point of hermeneutical departure. Thus . . . by virtue of its relationship to the cross, a truth was attached to the biblical word that it did not initially possess. This attachment renders the relationship between cross and Scripture more than dialectical; the relationship is diastatic. The fulfillment does not automatically follow from the promise; for the promise cannot be what it is, cannot emerge as promise, without first being shattered, or fractured."Some more conservative readers will disagree that the Old Testament text -- perhaps especially those they considered messianic -- did not possess, inherently, all the truth they can contain.Still this book can stimulate thinking about what the cross, the death of Jesus, did to the thought world of the first followers of Jesus, including those whose writings are found in the New Testament. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed making my first Fractures quilt.
I just received this book and could not wait to start.I used four repeats of a holiday fabric.I followed the basic instructions and completed the top in two evenings.I am ready to make more of these.I think the key is to select the right fabric. When completed, these pieces are wonderful as backgrounds for applique' (as shown in several examples in the book.)In order to sew a 1/8" seam on my machine (Bernina), I used a basic foot, moved the needle all the way to the right-most position, and placed the fabric right at the edge of the foot. This may be a little larger than 1/8", but not much, and it worked very well (even and straight) because the fabric is fully between the foot and the feed dogs.

Product Description
Fractures that occur during exercise leave most people thinking that they have only strained their backs or overdone an exercise. In some cases, many tiny fractures can develop before a person sees a doctor about increasing back pain. The more tiny fractures that accumulate, the greater the deformity of the spine.

Karena Thek Lineback has devised a plan to make sure this does not happen to you. The four-part plan consists of:

Safe movement for exercise and everyday living.

Postural awareness.

Diet.

Medication.

In this book, you will find safe movement guidelines and an entire exercise program of OsteoPilates designed to be safe for those with osteoporosis, to help you greatly reduce your risk of injury or debilitating fracture. You will also find all the nuts and bolts of osteoporosis information necessary to combat this crippling condition. You ll learn what causes osteoporosis (perhaps you have a habit that is decreasing your bone density right now!), the effect menopause has on bone density, what dietary habits will help improve bone density, and which medications are available for increasing bone density.

There is much you can do to prevent osteoporosis and to decrease the negative effects low bone density can have on your life and well-being. OsteoPilates tells you what to do and how to do it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little book
This book gives the reader excellent instruction on exercising using Pilates while protecting your bones.

2-0 out of 5 stars working w/ the book Osteopliates by K. T. Lineback
The charts were difficult to figure out.I could not place my own Tscores on the chart with any sense at all. I showed the book to pilates instructors as well as doctors without making sense of the chart.I have been doing pilaes for 3 years and the modified versions of the exercizes did not make me feel that I was getting a good workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars do not flex the spine
Excellent book.......very detailed and easy to understand.I also find myself very concientious about keeping good posture whilst performing the exercises. "do not flex the spine" goes through my mind so many times during the course of the day, you would be surprised at how often we all do that, and I have learned from this book that, that is not a good thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars sort of disappointed
UPon reading this book, I talked to my Dr. about the exercises 'not recommended'.ie: forward bends and movements similar to those.I have exercised all of my life and maintaining flexibility in my spine is very important. The Dr. said to continue those exercises. Why would one want to NOT keep the spine flexible? It is a good book tho, the exercises are easy to do and it is clearly written and the pictures are helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars packed with good info, exercise section poorly laid out
This is a very informative book, worth the read, but I gave it only 4 stars because of the exercise section. It has LOTS of excellent exercises, but for some reason, they would start an exercise explanation on the right page, then you have to turn the page to continue with it.You end up with the pointer pictures and the don't-do-this pictures of the previous exercise on the same two page spread as the explanatory photos of the next exercise, which is inconvenient and confusing.Would it have been SO hard to publish the book with a few more pages to enable each exercise to be on it's own two-page spread, without encroaching on thenext exercise? This is a great reference book, but they need to make the exercise section more 'user-friendly'. ...
