Therefore, treatments designed for one aspect will not always help another. The Hair-Loss Cure explains how to monitor the progress of any treatment that you decide to use, measure if your hair loss is excessive or normal, and overcome psychological or lifestyle problems caused by your condition.

Hair-loss specialist Dr. David H. Kingsley not only shares his expert insight into discovering all possible causes and treatments, but also his personal battle with hair loss to help you understand what you are going through and cope with your condition. 2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it new !
Ladies this book has some useful information, however most of the information is only helpful for those who have done little research.
This could be a good starting reference book. I did find a few things out I did not know and went to a few websites I had not considered. So for the used book price this book is worth the money.
Did you know that hair loss is one of the first signs of diabetes, and I wish this book had touched on this fact ( copyright on this book is 2000). I however, have not seen really any information other than on diabetes' websites that informs you of this and they have been updated.
He does give more possibilities than other books that were copyright dates of 2005 for natural supplements and diet. I can find hair restoration anywhere and don't think that should be so deeply covered in a book of hair loss. It should have dove deeper into diet, diabetes, and other causes.
I found the bald truth to be better than this book, it is by the same author.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning - don't read this book unless you're an insomniac
After reading this book I can tell you this, Stanley Kobren is certainly no expert on hair loss, but he is good at making his readers fall asleep. The book has no meaningful insight and most of the information is written mostly on a grammer school level. Don't even waste your time reading this book if you're serious about avoiding hair loss.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't even cover the basics
This is an extremely superficial book on hair loss. You can find out more on the internet in about 15 minutes than you can by reading this book. Nearly half of the book is devoted to transplants, wigs, etc. rather than talking about WHY people lose hair and what can be done about it short of these drastic measures. So many women suffer from hair loss that is treatable and this book does not offer any real help or advice. Stick to the internet and the wealth of knowledge available on hair loss sites.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful
Although I liked this book, I already knew most of the information that it contained. I was somewhat disappointed that the book did not have many specific recommendations for hair loss products, i.e.: dosages, amounts, application procedures. The book also spent way too much time discussinghair transplants which are not an alternative for most women due to diffusehair loss and unstable donor sites. The book gives far too few doctorrecommendation and once again, the doctors recommended were mostly hairtransplant specialist. If you are a beginner to female hair loss, you willprobably find this book helpful as it does contain good basic information.I, myself, was disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book -A Real Lifesaver!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This book has given me hope after months of heartache and frustration. My doctors have not helped me at all, it seems like all they know about is Rogaine and nothing else.

I now have the knowledge I need to seek out alternative and new treatments that havenever been mentioned to me before.

Not only do I recommend that everywoman reads this book, but every doctor treating women for hair loss shouldread it too, you may just learn something! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars huge help
I thought this book was really great, easy to follow and I loved that in different sections they would actually outline treatments recommended by various hair specialists around the country. The only drawback is that the book is now 6 years old and should probably be updated. We're ready for a second edition!

5-0 out of 5 stars Enormously Helpful
If you're a woman who is in a panic after recently discovering hair loss (thinning or baldness), this is the book for you. It gives a good, basic overview of medical and alternative therapies and hair care, grooming, and cosmetic issues. Also, it suggests how to talk to your doctor about hair loss and what questions, tests, and physical examinations your doctor should respond with. This books helps with the fear and frustration of female hair loss. Highly recommended. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL!!! There is some dangerous information for women provided in this book!!!
I give this book one star for the shocking information I found in the surgical hair restoration section. Candance recommends Bosley as a resource??? That is the worst hair transplant practice to tell women to go to and more importantly she does not stress enough that most women are not candidates for hair transplant surgery, a few lines added as an after thought isn't sufficent when the majority of the chapter talks about hair restoration as a real option for women. My sister unfortunately got taken by one of these hair transplant groups that should NEVER have performed surgery on her and she is severly scarred. Women with diffuse thinning are not candidates because they don't have that DHT resistent donor hair that men have. Hello??? YOU Should have done more research and made more of an effortto point that out to women instead of pointing them along the way to BOSLEY.Why not just feed us to the wolves? What other harmful information was put in this book that women are going to read. Ladies, Make sure to do your OWN research, A lot of the information I found to just be recycled from resources I've already read.I was very diasappointed with this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an extensively researched, well-written, and superbly organized book on a topic about which far too little information previously existed. And though the book contains real information (the hard facts), Hoffmann's style is anything but cold and clinical. Her style is warm and "readable," and she treats her subject with empathy and gentle humor in all the right places. She doesn't promise the moon or tout nostrums. She understands the problem and carefully documents possible causes and available solutions. Most of all, she makes women with this problem feel understood at last. Two thumbs way up.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! Well written, well researched, TOP NOTCH IN EVERY WAY!
Remember when menopause was something everyone knew happened butno one actually wanted to talk about it -- or admit they were going through that phase of life or even admit they had questions about it? Well, hair loss in women, as author Candace Hoffmann makes clear, is a subjectstill in that "taboo" zone much like menopause was twenty years ago. One difference, though, is that few women KNOW that hair loss is common; itisn't some rare thing that happens to a few women. It afflicts about half of all women in some degree -- for many females it can be an absolutely soul wrenching experience beyond mere vanity when they lose any or all of their " crowing glory".

Hoffmann has fought her own battle with female hair loss for decades and she not only brings thispersonal experience to her book but also her expertise as a long time, widely published health and science journalist ( I remember first seeing her by-line when she wrote for WEB MD). This is a thoroughly researched book -- scientific and thorough yet easy to read and interesting, even if you don't have a hair loss problem but are interested in hair and health in general. I'm a bit of a snob about health and science journalism (because that's my profession, too) so I don't make recommendations lightly . But I absolutely give this book my unqualified recommendation and I am convinced it can help tens of thousands of women. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars How I stopped hair loss
This is not an actual review, because I haven't read the book. I just wanted to share a hair loss recipe with you good people - the one that helped me.

I am a woman, 32 years old. I have had my hair falling out at above average rate since puberty. For a woman, a number of hairs falling out shouldn't be more than 70 per day. I would say that for me it was probably around 200. I was used to seeing bunches of hairs in the sink after washing it, on the pillow, on clothes. Then, few months ago, few factors (hairdresser made a horrible mistake, I made serious changes in my diet and was under a lot of stress) added up and for the next three months I was losing hair at the rate 500 (very roughly - I didn't actually count, but every time I ran fingers through my hair, I would have hairs in my hand). I thought I would end up bald. Then, I found a recipe on the Internet (bless it), and after using it every day, I can testify that it really works! Within the first month, the hair loss returned to normal (what was normal for me - maybe 200 hairs a day), and within the second month, my hair loss became less than average - I would say less than 50 hairs a day! The sink is almost empty after washing hair. I actually solved the problem I have been having my whole adult life.

The recipe:
1 1/2 cup of nettle
1/2 cup chopped onion
Put in a container, add enough alcohol to cover. After a few days (or more), strain and use liquid to massage scalp once a day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand
I have read a few books on hair loss and I must say that this one was the easiest to read by far. It uses basic medical terms and is clearly written for someone who is new to hair loss and wanting to find a solution. If you are looking for facts is an easy-to-read format, then this book is for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very outdated material
This book is very outdated in content and is of little use to present day hair loss sufferers. Don't waste the money on it like I did. You're better off reading a more thorough and accurate book. I personally found author Daniel Lawrence's new book on hair loss gave me the most up to date information on current treatments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
A very helpful book.A ton of information packed into a small book. It not only explains natural treatment options, but how drug solutions work as well.Everything is explained straight and to the point. It would be a very helpful book for people just starting to experience hair loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peters shows balding is part of a bigger health problem.
Hair Loss Prevention shows that male pattern baldness and prostate problems are linked and that the vitamin, mineral, and fatty acid regimen which helps one is good for the other too, as well as for the condition ofthe skin (so women, too, can benefit from reading this book). It'sexcellent for immediate protective care of the hair (advice on shampoos, conditioners, brushing, etc.) as well as a long term healthy diet whichshould stop more hair loss. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
The author states that her program is easy and inexpensive and that the ingredients can be found in any drug store or natural foods market.

First of all, the ingredients (good luck finding them) are expensive. I've gone to several drug stores and natural food markets and have not been able to find all the ingredients.

Secondly, the ingredients are expensive, and contrary to what others have mentioned in their reviews, they don't last that long. Sounded like most reviewers hadn't started the program quite yet and were swayed by the author's claims.

Lastly, this book, as well as the follow up, "Grow Hair Fast," are extremely poorly written. As a matter of fact, the 2 books are nearly identical to one another. I guess if the guidelines listed were truly easy and inexpensive, then everybody would be doing it, and the big drug companies wouldn't have any products on the market for hair loss.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another rip-off, please save your money
I've read the book.

One look at the "testimonial" pictures in the back and you'll know this is worse than a rip-off.

Because she is intructing you to go thru a laborious, time-consuming process. And even her own customer's before and after pics are a joke.

Book Description

"I am not my breast, and I am not cancer; they are only pieces of who I am. What is my heart like, am I kind, strong, loving, compassionate. . . . Those are the things that count."

I Am Not My Breast Cancer gathers the warm, loving, frank, and informed voices of more than 800 women—from every state in the nation and from continents as far away as Australia and Africa—who reveal their fears, trade advice, share experiences, and express their deepest, most intimate concerns. Nothing before this groundbreaking book has captured the real experience of breast cancer. It is essential reading for any woman with this diagnosis.

I Am Not My Breast Cancer offers women the companionship of other women dealing with this disease. Ruth Peltason, who has twice undergone treatment for breast cancer, has woven their stories together while maintaining the authenticity of their voices. These are ordinary women dealing with this cancer and its many ramifications. They range in age from their early twenties to their late seventies. They are the collective face of breast cancer today. Their comments are moving, sometimes funny, always honest. They speak out on every topic, from lovemaking and intimacy to losing their hair, from juggling the day-to-day realities of being a patient, mother, wife, and coworker to the overwhelming worries about their own mortality. Remarkably, they emerge with grace and optimism and a determination not to be defined by disease.

Taking the reader chronologically through the stages of diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and self-discovery, I Am Not My Breast Cancer offers women a deeper understanding of themselves and living with cancer. As Peltason writes in her introduction, "My greatest wish for this book is that it offer comfort to any woman living with breast cancer and to those who care about her. If this book is kept on the bedside table, then I hope its need is brief and its impact lasting. I Am Not My Breast Cancer speaks of courage, heroism in deeds small and large, and incredible faith and fortitude."

"You can live without a breast. You cannot say the same for the human heart."

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a support group, only BETTER!
Reading I Am Not My Breast Cancer is like attending a support group for women with breast cancer, only better.Instead of hearing the experiences of one or a few women, the reader shares the cancer journey with hundreds of women. The 800 women who participated in the original project from which the book is drawn are from all across the United States and from several other countries as well. They shared their feelings and experiences with openness and honesty. They laughed and cried together, gave each other advice, and bonded with each other.

Ruth Peltason took those many and varied threads and wove them lovingly into this book.I Am Not My Breast Cancer is not a medical resource, it is a practical resource. It is not the story of one woman's breast cancer, it is the distillation of hundreds of women's experiences with breast cancer--young women, women in midlife, older women, women with early stage disease and women with metastatic disease.Ms. Peltason, herself a two time breast cancer survivor, treats each woman's experience with dignity and respect.

Any woman touched by breast cancer will find herself in the pages of this book, and it will help those around her understand a little better what she may be going through.Cancer centers and doctors' offices should be sure this volume is added to their libraries--it fills a void and meets a need like no other book out there. As a breast cancer survivor, I say, "Thank you, Ms. Peltason, for writing I Am Not My Breast Cancer!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Give this to anyone affected by breast cancer.
As a man whose wife is undergoing chemotherapy, I wanted to read this book for several reasons. I wanted as much understanding as possible about the emotional aspects for all involved, I wanted to see how well I was doing as the significant other and I wanted to Understand what I might be missing/overlooking about the whole process.
This book did an incredible job answering all three questions. The distillation of wisdom, anger, hope and total honesty of the 800 women involved in the creation of this book is amazing. The brief, but succinct comments, collected on such a diverse arrangements of topics will not only provide helpful paths for those undergoing treatment, but also for ANY family member, friend or co-worker sincerely interested in understanding and supporting the individual battling the disease of breast cancer.
This book should be in every public and health science library as it will do for the soul and spirit what other books cannot.

5-0 out of 5 stars These ladies really get it!
This book should-WILL become a key resource for any woman (or man) who has recently been diagnosed with Breast cancer. It will also bring those who have lived with the disease in remission or hence eradicated, with a sense of comraderie that you rarely glimpse once you are "years out", as we say in the world of survivors. Anyone reading this collection of online dialogs will be able to relate to what is being said. Those who have "been there" will smile, laugh, cry and nod in agreement while reading through the hundreds of passages that have been included in this rich, compassionate and inspirational book. The author Ruth Peltason has also added her own notations peppered throughout, to share some of her own experience as a 2 time Breast Cancer survivor. These women GET IT! I believe this book will also aid those who have stood by watching helplessly as someone they love is effected by this horrendous disease. It allows others to see and feel what these women really went through. Buy this book for a friend, a co-worker, a loved one, or to share with a medical professional. The wisdom, the humor, the warmth that these women have shared online and now in book form is a personal journey that touches the soul. Highly Recommneded! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better than the truth about women's hair loss
If you have to choose between this book and the women's hair loss, choose this one. This book covered much more ( maybe that is because so much research is done for men rather that women at this point).
I still think many resources are in your best interest, and this book should be added to the list of were you get your information.
I have decided to go natural at this time, because I would want any future children of mine not to be born with defects. I am currently using the herbal supplements and a DHT blocking shampoo from eBay. I have not noticed hair growth, but slowed hair loss I have noticed. I do see hair shafts coming back which I take as a good sign(using supplements 3 weeks and the shampoo 2 weeks). The book does bring up herbs and shampoos you can use.
Diabetes is brought up just a little which is better than most. The Internet will expand on the subject, that hair loss is generally one of the first signs.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a simple book not very comprahensive
I got this book 2 weeks ago and could read end to end in few hours. I would say all the info available in this book is very easily available on the internet from pretty authentic websites. As I have been browsing on this topic for last few weeks I knew most of the content. On Rogaine the book covers hardly one page, where I would have liked statistics, growth charts, intial shedding details, pictures etc. On propecia this book is pretty extensive as like many it recommends propecia as primary defence.

On diet it was just average, i would have liked references (authentic)to how diet changes like EFA (essential fatty acids), linolic acid has impacted DHT in animal and lab test's, linseed usage in DHT/SHBG impact etc.

On sugar level's and T levels there is an nice chapter.

For herbal also though saw palmetto is refered by many as good, i know equal number of skeptic doctors. So we need concrete proof and links to medical publications.

This book is not updated i think in few years so, no mention about
lasercomb, newer products. Product reviews of tricomin, revivogen etc
are missing. Author could have atleast identified which are snake oils
and which have some good science behind it.

For those who would not like propecia either it being a pill/cost based
on minoxidil author should have given a clear alround attactk, including if retin-A/spirno has any impact on DHT, if nizoral/ketaconzole has any antiandrogen properties etc.

Overall for those who are very begining stages of this topic I would recommend this book as it touches all the fortes so that you can explore each further. But we need something lot more comprehensive.

This is a very well researched source of information on various types of hair-loss treatment. The author speaks from experience with successfully combating hair loss after extensive research on various products. I think that makes the book more credible than the self-promoting product sites out there. The author covers virtually all of the effective methods of hair loss treatment, including Propecia, herbal suppliments, topical solutions (monoxidil etc), hair transplants, and more. A must buy for all those interested in knowing pretty much all there is to know about hair loss treatment options, their effectiveness, pros and cons, etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book is largely a regurgitation of the very limited information that is already widely available. Reading it was superfluous. Most of what Kobren covers is cosmetic management of the problem; the advice on diet applies only to the worst lifestyle offenders, and he paints finasteride (Propecia) as a panacea, which it definitely isn't. The book is thin, both physically and in terms of content.

The irony is that Kobren claims to be a debunker and "consumer advocate", and this book is supposed to be his vehicle. To an experienced eye, it just looks like he is joining the rush to make money from male insecurities about hair loss.

The answers to male pattern baldness will come, eventually, but they won't be found in this book. Save your money, do your own research, talk to a dermatologist, take care of your health (good advice anyway), and you'll be further ahead than you will be after reading this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Hair & Your Money
I disagree with the author.First, Propecia grows hair in one area at the expense of another.Spironolactone has been proven to stop the growth of hair.DHT does not cause hair loss.Spencer does not even mention the nutrient theory of baldness and how many people have been regrowing scalp hair by removing body hair, allowing nutrients to get to the scalp. Can you tell me what it takes to grow scalp hair if not androgens? Ernie ... Read more

Book Description
This book is the most comprehensive and authoritative lay person̢۪s guide to hair loss treatments on the market today. It is written by a board-certified dermatologist and internationally recognized expert with thirty-five years experience and thousands of successful surgeries to his credit. It covers all the most common modern techniques in clear, non-technical language, and uses many drawings and photographs to illustrate hair loss conditions and surgical techniques. It looks at the many myths and misunderstandings around hair loss, and shows which treatments work best for different types of hair loss.

It is applicable to men suffering from male pattern baldness, but it also covers hair loss conditions common to women. It contains many real-life photos and stories of actual patients, some in their own words, and debunks the many bogus treatments that have flooded the market recently. It gives readers the scientific background knowledge they require to intelligently select the right medication or surgeon, and also explains hair cloning and other medical advances that may be just over the horizon of current treatment.

* Covers all the most recent scientific advances, including cloning and genetic implantation.

* Debunks the many bogus and expensive treatments on the market for hair loss. This is THE authoritative work on the subject.

* About fifty million American women suffer from hair loss; this book thoroughly covers their problems as well as male pattern baldness. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The incomplete book of hair loss answers.
If you are looking for history on what people have done since 44BC until now, and if you only wish to go the route of surgical procedures
this book will interest you.
Natural hair solutions were skimmed over so quickly I had to go back to see if I had missed something. So, if you are interested in alternative options such as diet, disease control, save a tree and don't buy this book.
The Internet is a good source too after you wade through the crap that is out there. See other hair loss books through Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book By Far on the Subject
I edited this book, in the process of which I read several other books on hair loss. As a reader, you will find that this edition beats any other title on the market hands down. The information is clearly organized, the book is up-to-date with discussions of leading-edge therapies like hair cloning and stem cell therapy, and the Q&A section answers all the questions you've always wanted to ask. Lavishly illustrated with line drawings and photographs, this book is for women as well as men considering the best treatment options for hair loss. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars misleading title for the book
I was disapointed with the book, its more like a counsiling book than a hair loss book.If i wanted counsiling i would have bought a counsiling book.I read the book in an hour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book. Should be added to your reading list.
I don't get some of the negative reviews as the book never claims to cure or solve hairloss. Its clearly someone's take and experience on the matter and its a damn good one.You never read the stuff that this book talks about and it should be read by anyone who is looking seriously at this issue.Folks who are looking for desperate, quick fixes are going to end up making some stupid and rash decisions. When weighing your options or just looking to enlighten yourself in healthy ways of dealing with your hairloss, this book should be a must on your list of reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars Figuratively and literally got "scalped"
What a rip off! Was not amused at all. Extremely misleading and deceptive. I have a very good sense of humor and appreciate this guys story but I would have appreciated some honesty in the advertising of this book, rather than a play on words. I would be more apt to laugh and see the point of his story if he would refund me back the price of the book and keep the shipping and handling as a "tip". The irony of this all is that this joker will probably make a sizeable amount of money from this book and then go visit some world renowned hair transplant surgeon for "the works". He will then release a sequel to his book and entitle it, "How I duped thousands and raised money for my hair transplant, and then some". What sucks more than losing your hair is losing money to jokers like this in the process.

Good book.Very helpful. The book is not what you think it is, but I won't blow it's cover. Insightful, smart and funny.Worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars You want to read this book.

Book Description
According to Geoffrey Redmond, M.D., a majority of the 42 million American women between the ages of thirty-five and fifty-five suffer from vulnerability to their own hormones. Appearance, emotions -- and even sex drive -- may be affected. Symptoms include thinning hair, persistent acne, mood swings, low energy, loss of pleasure in sex, weight gain, irregular periods, and pain. While the media has emphasized the problems of menopause, Dr. Redmond explains that all too many women experience hormonal miseries even in their thirties. Lab tests are often normal because the problem is not the hormones themselves but how a woman's body reacts to them. Healthy, active women suddenly find that once quiescent hormones have taken over control of their lives. Because their problems are often dismissed as trivial, women who are hormonally vulnerable are frequently thwarted in their quest for help. Too often they are brushed off with remarks such as, "Your tests are normal; there's nothing wrong with you." This is tragic because, as Dr. Redmond demonstrates, hormonal balance can nearly always be restored with the treatments he details, which include individualized use of prescription medications, herbal supplements, lifestyle changes, and even spiritual practices. Many women have heard that testosterone can help sex drive, but most have not been warned about the damage that careless testosterone therapy can cause on skin and hair.

In this book, Dr. Redmond, an internationally recognized authority on testosterone in women, explains the only safe ways to use testosterone. With informative sidebars, quizzes, and personal stories of women who have overcome hormone vulnerability, this helpful book will empower you to find treatments for your hormone problems that are tailored to fit your own body, biochemistry, symptoms, and lifestyle. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Mostly geared toward Areata sufferers
This book is mainly geared toward alopecia areata (AA) sufferers, not genetic (androgenic) alopecia sufferers. It contains lots of stories of sufferers, including the author's.The stories are somewhat interesting at first, but get dull rather quickly. There is some information about treatments, however, but it is not as informative as the books by Kobren or as comprehensive as the one by Greenwood-Robinson (if you're a woman). But, if you suffer from AA, then it might be appropriate to read the author's.

The author is English, and so some of her stories include the charm and wit characteristic of the British. She takes the situation somewhat lightheartedly and advises (implicitly) readers to do the same (after all, it is just hair). However, her "cure" which is basically minoxidil, will almost certainly not be a "cure" for those with genetic balding. It is well-known that AA sufferers sometimes regrow spontaneously. The author's case may be due to this and not to minoxodil. She does not mention this possibility (that I recall) in the text.Hence, I believe the title is a bit misleading.

3-0 out of 5 stars okay book
This book is well writen but mainly talks about hair transplants and drugs. It doesnt really cover natural approaches to hairloss, the author doesnt address the home remedies and vitamins you can take for hairloss. I found "Grow hair fast" by Riqutte Hoffstien a much better source of information and HIGHLY effective treatments. an awsome book that really works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Americans are in love with their hair

No doubt Dr. Panagotacos will do well with this book.He presents as an expert who knows what he is talking about, and the book is full of straight answers and exploded myths and old-wives-tales.That, plus the fact that Americans are in love with their hair, apparently, and as a result fear hair loss, coupled with the fact that hair loss is seemingly inevitable, and you have recipe for success almost as sure as selling a diet that works to a country full of fat people that worship thinness.

I found interesting statements of fact on virtually every page of this book.I have male-pattern baldness myself, but I come from a generation that did not worship their hair to the extent that today's generations do.But, one of my late female loved ones had thin hair which was the bane of her life, and I know the pain and grief the condition can cause, and the negative effect on one's self confidence.

For those folks who are impacted by hair loss, I think you'll find this book as good as any on the subject, and better than most.

5-0 out of 5 stars A down-to-earth resource presenting solid information
Knowledgeably written by Doctor Pater J. Panagotacos (a certified dermatologist whose specialty is hair restoration), Hair Loss Answers offers the reader a compilation of straight facts about the causes and treatments of hair loss, including cosmetic treatments, surgical restoration, follicular unit micrografting, cons and false "snake oil" remedies, and much, much more. A down-to-earth resource presenting solid information, Hair Loss Answers is very highly recommended reading for anyone concerned with hair loss and restoration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very thorough, yet easy to understand
What I liked about this book is that it is comprehensive as well as chronological.

The reasons for hair loss are explained well, and treatment options are presented in a matter of fact manner that is objective and easy to read.

There are also lots of color pictures of hair transplant patients, so anyone considering surgery can really see what it is all about.Patients also describe, in detail, what the surgery is like, and I felt confident prior to making my decision to move forward with surgery that I knew what I was getting myself into.

To date, this is the most informative book that I've come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hair Loss Answers
I recommend this book to anyone with a concern about hair loss. It is an amusing and informative book which painlessly answers most of the questions I had about my male pattern baldness. As a result of reading about follicular unit grafting I ended up finding the right hair transplant doctor for me. My mother also had a recent problem with hair loss and it turned out she was having a reaction to one of the medications which were listed in the book as a cause of drug induced shedding. Our family doctor looked it up and changed her prescription. It seems there is something in this book for everyone with hair loss. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Read
If you have any form of hair loss, this is a helpful book.It was written in 1992, and she made sure that she didn't cover medical treatments so that it wouldn't be out of date.

Instead, it deals a lot with the emotional and psychological issues that women deal with when they have a form of hairloss. It includes men, somewhat, but not much. But it's information is valuable for people with all types of hair loss, which is nice.It does lean heavy on the side of Alopecia areata as the author has alopecia totalis.

I borrowed the book from the library, but I will be buying a copy as it is a valuable reference for the emotional aspect of this dreaded disease.
