Product Description
This Industry Risk Ratings report from IBISWorld evaluates the inherent risks associated with the Hair Loss Treatment & Removal in the US industry. Industry Risk is assumed to be 'the difficulty, or otherwise, of the business operating environment'.

The report looks at the operational risk associated with this industry. Three types of risk are recognized in our analysis. These are: risk arising from within the industry itself (structural risk), risks arising from the expected future performance of the industry (growth risk) and risk arising from forces external to the industry (external sensitivity risk).

This approach is new in that it analyses non-financial information surrounding each industry. Industries are scored on a 9-point scale, where 1 represents the lowest risk and 9 the highest. The Industry Risk score measures expected Industry Risk over the coming 12-18 months.

Industry Definition
This report deals with centers that only provide only non-surgical treatments for hair loss and replacement, as well as hair removal and scalp treatment services.

Report Contents

Risk Overview

The Risk Overview chapter includes sections on Industry Definition and Activities, Industry Risk Score and Risk Rating Analysis. The Industry Definition and Activities section provides a detailed definition of the activities carried out by operators in this industry as defined in NAICS.A list of the primary activities of the industry is also included. The Industry Risk Score section provides the Overall Industry Risk Score as well as the Risk Scores for each of the three types of risk covered that combine to form the Overall Industry Risk Score. These three types of risk are Structural Risk, Growth Risk and External Sensitivity Risk. The Risk Rating Analysis section discusses the underlying factors contributing to the Overall Industry Risk Score.

Structural Risk

The Structural Risk chapter looks at risk arising from within the industry itself and provides a detailed discussion of the industrys level of exposure to seven key indicators. These key indicators are Barriers to Entry, Competition, Industry Exports, Industry Imports, Level of Assistance, Life Cycle Stage and Volatility of Industry. The Overall Structural Risk Score is a weighted aggregation of these seven key indicators. Each of the key indicators is discussed in detail in this section.

Growth Risk

The Growth Risk chapter looks at risks arising from the expected future performance of the industry. The Overall Growth Risk Score is determined by amalgamating the scores for Recent Industry Growth and Forecast Industry Growth. Detailed analysis is provided discussing the reasons for the growth scores of both.

Sensitivity Risk

The Sensitivity Risk chapter looks at risks arising from forces (sensitivities) external to the industry. The Overall External Sensitivity Risk Score is determined by identifying the most significant (up to 6) external factors and weighting them to represent how significant each sensitivity is to the performance of the industry.Examples of External Sensitivities are Exchange Rates, Interest Rates, Commodity Prices and Government Regulations. There is also a detailed analysis of the affect each of the sensitivities has on the industry, including charts and data tables where appropriate.

Industry Risk and Industry Risk Scoring Methodology

This chapter provides an overview of how IBISWorld defines Industry Risk and discusses the methodology used to arrive at an Industry Risk Score. There is also a table that provides a definition of the seven levels of Industry Risk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pate: Whatever that is?!
This short treatise on the causes of and remedies for thinning hair ranks at the top of my list of all-time worthless and pretentious bunk. In short, the author holds that thinning hair is caused by combing your locks thewrong way. Too much and in the wrong direction, and it falls out. Forgetabout other causes: like malnutrition, emotional stress, hormonalimbalance, heredity, environmental toxicity, aging, etc.Just brush itbackwards and watch your sink fill with loose hairs. Don't waste your timeand money on this bald and toothless argument wearing a false and floweryacademic wig.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book! Keep up the good work Dad.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any person with breast cancer
I loved this book!I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36 and this book saved me from a horrible depression. The stories of others in my same situation was so comforting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Want to know how the women who've had it feel?
I purchased this book, along with four others, because I am writing a novel in which my character learns that she has breast cancer.I really wanted to know what she would be going through, and not just the medical side of it, but the emotional, the physical, the sexual and the psychological. It's all here and it comes directly from the women who experienced it.This is really a gem.I do not have breast cancer, thankfully, and I really hope I never have to endure these things that I've read about, however these women really shine in their honesty and their courage.I was shocked to learn how much they have to go through. They don't tell us these things.I had no idea that chemotherapy caused premature menopause.I knew it caused nausea, fatigue and hair loss but all of the other multitudes of difficulty, I just had no idea.Regardless if you have cancer or not, this book is something all women should read.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a support group, only BETTER!
Reading I Am Not My Breast Cancer is like attending a support group for women with breast cancer, only better.Instead of hearing the experiences of one or a few women, the reader shares the cancer journey with hundreds of women. The 800 women who participated in the original project from which the book is drawn are from all across the United States and from several other countries as well. They shared their feelings and experiences with openness and honesty. They laughed and cried together, gave each other advice, and bonded with each other.

Ruth Peltason took those many and varied threads and wove them lovingly into this book.I Am Not My Breast Cancer is not a medical resource, it is a practical resource. It is not the story of one woman's breast cancer, it is the distillation of hundreds of women's experiences with breast cancer--young women, women in midlife, older women, women with early stage disease and women with metastatic disease.Ms. Peltason, herself a two time breast cancer survivor, treats each woman's experience with dignity and respect.

Any woman touched by breast cancer will find herself in the pages of this book, and it will help those around her understand a little better what she may be going through.Cancer centers and doctors' offices should be sure this volume is added to their libraries--it fills a void and meets a need like no other book out there. As a breast cancer survivor, I say, "Thank you, Ms. Peltason, for writing I Am Not My Breast Cancer!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Give this to anyone affected by breast cancer.
As a man whose wife is undergoing chemotherapy, I wanted to read this book for several reasons. I wanted as much understanding as possible about the emotional aspects for all involved, I wanted to see how well I was doing as the significant other and I wanted to Understand what I might be missing/overlooking about the whole process.
This book did an incredible job answering all three questions. The distillation of wisdom, anger, hope and total honesty of the 800 women involved in the creation of this book is amazing. The brief, but succinct comments, collected on such a diverse arrangements of topics will not only provide helpful paths for those undergoing treatment, but also for ANY family member, friend or co-worker sincerely interested in understanding and supporting the individual battling the disease of breast cancer.
This book should be in every public and health science library as it will do for the soul and spirit what other books cannot.

5-0 out of 5 stars These ladies really get it!
This book should-WILL become a key resource for any woman (or man) who has recently been diagnosed with Breast cancer. It will also bring those who have lived with the disease in remission or hence eradicated, with a sense of comraderie that you rarely glimpse once you are "years out", as we say in the world of survivors. Anyone reading this collection of online dialogs will be able to relate to what is being said. Those who have "been there" will smile, laugh, cry and nod in agreement while reading through the hundreds of passages that have been included in this rich, compassionate and inspirational book. The author Ruth Peltason has also added her own notations peppered throughout, to share some of her own experience as a 2 time Breast Cancer survivor. These women GET IT! I believe this book will also aid those who have stood by watching helplessly as someone they love is effected by this horrendous disease. It allows others to see and feel what these women really went through. Buy this book for a friend, a co-worker, a loved one, or to share with a medical professional. The wisdom, the humor, the warmth that these women have shared online and now in book form is a personal journey that touches the soul. Highly Recommneded! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book felt like the support group I was seeking.
I am a middle aged woman with genetic hair loss, the kind that creeps up on you a little at a time.I first saw this book at a well regarded hair loss center where it was highly recommended. To quote the owner of the center, "I thought I knew a whole lot about hair loss but I learned even more from this book!".How true it is.The book covers a complicated topic in a well researched and organized way.Hair loss can have many causes and the first task is to find out which kind of hair loss a woman is dealing with. The book is written in a tone that is supportive but also realistic.Rather than offer false hope, it presents a clear picture of what is known at this time, what the options are, and what is not yet understood about this problem.Folks with hair loss are often easy targets for selling cures. How nice it felt to read about products and approaches from a medical journalist who clearly had no desire to sell me anything.Reading this book helped me feel more empowered as I investigated solutions. It also helped me understand how common this problem is and how important it is for women to share their concerns and insights with one another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, Real, and Helpful
This book is helpful both to women and medical professionals alike, seeking to improve their understanding of Alopecia in Women, and find up to date resources for taking a proactive approach to treating it.The author canvassed numerous real-life experiences from women struggling with this condition and compiled many firsthand accounts that will both touch and motivate you.Since this book was written recently, I found the resources to be extremely relevant and up to date. Most importantly its obviously written from a non commercial, unbiased viewpoint, which is whats most relevant to me.I feel like I can trust the content found in its pages. I walked away from it with a printed out list of things to discuss with a dermatologist, and a solid action plan to begin diagnosing and treating hair loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book
I really like this book, because it has so much information gathered in one place.I have been researching hair loss, and you have to do so much searching to find anything. It is an excellent resource book.I think it is especially good to read before you go to your dermatologist about hair loss, as it has an overview of treatments and information you need to know to make more informed decisions. One of my favorite things about the book, is it's sensitivity to the emotional issues of hair loss, which are not widely understood even by professionals.

1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL!!! There is some dangerous information for women provided in this book!!!
I give this book one star for the shocking information I found in the surgical hair restoration section. Candance recommends Bosley as a resource??? That is the worst hair transplant practice to tell women to go to and more importantly she does not stress enough that most women are not candidates for hair transplant surgery, a few lines added as an after thought isn't sufficent when the majority of the chapter talks about hair restoration as a real option for women. My sister unfortunately got taken by one of these hair transplant groups that should NEVER have performed surgery on her and she is severly scarred. Women with diffuse thinning are not candidates because they don't have that DHT resistent donor hair that men have. Hello??? YOU Should have done more research and made more of an effortto point that out to women instead of pointing them along the way to BOSLEY.Why not just feed us to the wolves? What other harmful information was put in this book that women are going to read. Ladies, Make sure to do your OWN research, A lot of the information I found to just be recycled from resources I've already read.I was very diasappointed with this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an extensively researched, well-written, and superbly organized book on a topic about which far too little information previously existed. And though the book contains real information (the hard facts), Hoffmann's style is anything but cold and clinical. Her style is warm and "readable," and she treats her subject with empathy and gentle humor in all the right places. She doesn't promise the moon or tout nostrums. She understands the problem and carefully documents possible causes and available solutions. Most of all, she makes women with this problem feel understood at last. Two thumbs way up. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very outdated material
This book is very outdated in content and is of little use to present day hair loss sufferers. Don't waste the money on it like I did. You're better off reading a more thorough and accurate book. I personally found author Daniel Lawrence's new book on hair loss gave me the most up to date information on current treatments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
A very helpful book.A ton of information packed into a small book. It not only explains natural treatment options, but how drug solutions work as well.Everything is explained straight and to the point. It would be a very helpful book for people just starting to experience hair loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peters shows balding is part of a bigger health problem.
Hair Loss Prevention shows that male pattern baldness and prostate problems are linked and that the vitamin, mineral, and fatty acid regimen which helps one is good for the other too, as well as for the condition ofthe skin (so women, too, can benefit from reading this book). It'sexcellent for immediate protective care of the hair (advice on shampoos, conditioners, brushing, etc.) as well as a long term healthy diet whichshould stop more hair loss. ...
