1-0 out of 5 stars cluster headaches by seymour diamond, md
quote:"treatment.relief for ....."This should never again be offered on Amazon (you are too far above this type of lit.)
It consists of an intro, a few paragraphs (only a few sentences each) to describe a headache...the rest of the entire content of this so called "help book", consists of list upon list of what other people have said about or how they described their headaches. When he says"from the personal experiences of " who were these people? "provided to encourage.."he needs a ghost writer, people with headaches who buy a book penned by a "MD", you want their opinion, not what so and so says about
their heads. They look for the book that will give encouragement in the form of offering viable, scientificly
researched data that will help them, not just give you the sense...move over, there are plenty of others out there with headaches and read what they say.
Sorry, but it was, for an avid reader of above average intelligence, a VERY dissapointing book. I am sure the author must have much to say that could help the buyer and sufferer, it is well hidden within the book, if so.Not that he/she should give up, but please find a competent assistant, and write your own views.Thank you for giving me a chance to review one of Amazons books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting for answers.
This book touts "Treatment and Relief for Cluster, Cluster Migraine, and Recurring Eye-Stab Pain," but gives little clinical information.Instead, this book offers a few paragraphs of medical observation, followedby dozens of statements made by unidentified sufferers; covering symptoms, triggers, treatment and relief (which Cluster Headache sufferers know isstill impossible).I've been waiting years for conclusive information onthis excruciating condition.Reading page after page of complaints similarto my own nearly triggered another cluster headache!"Threestars" because I finally saw my crazy symptoms in print and know I'mnot alone.Buy this book for emotional support, or to educate others aboutthe condition.Don't buy it to be wowed by recent medical insight andadvances. ... Twenty-eight million people in the United States suffer from chronic, recurrent, often disabling headaches-half of them forgoing medical attention in favor of analgesics that do nothing to prevent the next one. In Breaking the Headache Cycle, the authors-migraine sufferers themselves-present the integrated Headache Reduction Program (HARP) they developed at the Princeton Headache Clinic. 4-0 out of 5 stars How To Think About Headaches
This book taught me how to think about the migraines I was suffering from.I realized that my reaction upon the onset of another migraine was doing nothing to help me.It hurt my mood, stressed me out, and probably made my headaches hurt worse and last longer. This book taught me quite a bit. They are essentially pushing meditation and yoga.I haven't yet been disciplined enough to set aside time for those into my daily life, but I do try to stretch more and do deep breathing whenever I think of it.It feels like it helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Headache help
I have read about 4 books on headaches and lots ofmagazine articles and websites. This was probably the best because it was the most informative. It let me know what things I was taking that may help with my headache but usually caused "rebound" headaches. It also helped with what foods that help and what foods to stay away from.It was about as helpful as a book can be but I still suffer with lots of headaches. Now I am more inclined to suffer through them.I don't want the rebound effects of what most drugs cause.

5-0 out of 5 stars A relief for migraine sufferers
This book has been a godsend. I have suffered from migraines since I was a teenager. Nothing worked to relieve my pain - I would just have to suffer through them until they were over.

After reading reviews of this book on Amazon, I decided to give it a try. What an amazing difference! I will not tell you that I don't get migraines anymore, which I do. But this book tells you ways to prevent them and to lessen the pain during a migraine. Its fantastic!

I went from having at least one migraine a week to one a month. They used to last me for days, but using the exercises in the book, I just take 5 minutes and it lessens up the pain enough for me to function or even breaks it all together.

Wonderful book! A must-read for migraine sufferers. I even plan to buy my mother a copy for Christmas.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Headache Book - Little Practical Advice ...
The better book is Bucholz's Heal Your Headache which is the most no-nonsense, practical book out there.Breaking the Headache Cycle is mostly philosophical rambling about stress reduction and breathing with little useful advice. The chapter on the pros and cons of current medications is the only useful part of the book. The rest is fluff. If you check out the Bucholz book, you'll see what I'm talking about.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!
Since I have suffered from headaches all my life, I have eagerly read any book I can get my hands on that may lead to some relief. This is the first book that I can truly say has SOLVED my problem! For many years, I have had almost-daily headaches and even as recent as Feb 2007, I had 2 to 3 headaches a day (a total of 46 headaches that month alone)!I took Zomig to get relief. It's effective and very expensive but I also knew I was taking WAY too much medicine. This book is full of great information about the hows and whys of migraine headaches and also many, many suggestions of options to break the pattern and get relief. It's very practical, easy to read with stories of other peoples headache histories. As I read it, it seemed they were writing about ME and my headache history. Two very powerful suggestions from that book that changed my life: the deep breathing exercises when I am feeling stress and a low dose of amitriptyline, as prescribed by my doctor.Because of this book, I can truly say - I NO LONGER GET HEADACHES!
If you have recurring headaches - you MUST read this book! ... Read more

Book Description

As we work longer hours and lead more stressful lives than ever before, headaches and migraines have become an all-too-familiar companion to daily living. Though there is presently no cure for the chronic headache or migraine, the last half of the 20th century brought new and improved treatments--and ways to reduce their impact as well as lessening frequency and severity. Try this overview of orthodox medicine and complementary therapies and pain management. And, since correct diet and nutrition play an integral part in how to control the pain, it also includes a selection of exclusion recipes, designed to omit common potential triggers, avoid problem foods, and flag the nutritional deficiencies, allergies, eating patterns, chemical reactions and intolerances you might encounter. This is all the information you need to help control headaches and migraines...instead of letting them control you.

Book Description

All physicians need to learn to diagnose and manage head pain. However, there are many causes of headache: some are secondary to other conditions; others are disorders in themselves. These factors often make differential diagnosis and treatment a challenge. This didactic atlas approaches the problem of migraine and other headaches from a visual perspective. The contents cover the history of migraine and headache, their epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. While the central emphasis is on migraine, all types of headache are addressed. The book includes some classic illustrations from historical texts as well as modern images that illustrate the disorders and current thinking.

1-0 out of 5 stars Authors Should FollowTheir Own Rules
This book was a disapointment!I have suffered with migraine headaches for years. And I usually make two different dinners each meal--one for my family and one for me.I was hoping to find some recipes I could make that everyone would be able to eat. This book starts out identifying foods that possibly "trigger" headaches, ie., citrus, broadbeans, raw onions, caffeine, etc.You are then informed to avoid these foods. Then the authors print out recipes THAT HAVE THESE SAME FOODS AS MAIN INGREDIENTS!
What a waste of my money this book was.I am disgusted.

1-0 out of 5 stars Foods don't cause migraine
This book perpetuates and exploits the myth that foods cause or trigger migraines. No food has ever been demonstrated to cause, promote, precipitate ("trigger") or aggravate migraine. Beyond a placebo effect, dietary restriction is ineffective as a treatment for headache. (The exceptions are foods containing caffeine or alcohol, both of which are more properly regarded as drugs.) Migraine patients should eat a healthy, varied diet, and not deprive themselves of freedom, enjoyment and nutrition because of an outdated and mistaken belief.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this book thinking I would be getting more of a variety of meals to help prevent migraines and better planning of meals. What I found in my opinion was a lot of receipies with questionable migraine-triggering ingredients. There were VERY few recipes using just the "foods allowed" section.I found about 10 without any yeast, vinegar or other questionable items such as canned or jar ingredients. When you are at the elimination diet stage after being first diagnosed with migraines, this is the diet you need most.At my next Dr. appointment, I plan on bringing in the book to get his opinion.I did find the food purchasing guide helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally! This book has been needed for a long time!
This book explains in simple language how the selection of foods can help avoid migraine headaches. Most books describe how migraines begin, but this book goes to that next, most important step...what you can do about it!So many migraines begin with foods that "trigger" the onset of the migraine. This book provides lists of all the foods to avoid, and helps you eliminate the ones that are a personal "trigger" for each individual. It's easy to figure out what not to eat, and through choosing from all the recipes, grocery store shopping lists, charts, etc., it's such a relief to know WHAT to do, finally!

Anyone who suffers from migraines should have this book! ... Read more

If your child suffers from bad headaches, then you know all too well the panic and frustration they cause -- and not just for your child, who may be too young or unwell to articulate what he's feeling, but for everyone in the family. When over-the-counter medications don't work and your pediatrician doesn't have an answer, you can now turn to preeminent headache and migraine expert Dr. Seymour Diamond for help.

In Headache and Your Child, he gives parents information on the most up-to-date diagnostic tools and treatment options available for this increasingly common childhood illness. He also discusses the whole gamut of possible headache causes, from stress through more serious conditions. With this book as a guide, you'll find:

  • Step-by-step exercises for controlling pain

5-0 out of 5 stars There is help for children
I literally just completed an inpatient treatment program provided by the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. They were very helpful in reducing the severity of my 21+ year daily chronic headache/migraine. This clinic was founded by Dr. Seymour Diamond. My son also suffers from bad migraines. Most neurologists have been hesitant to treat him because if his age. The Diamond Headache Clinic work with children without hesitation. The doctors here and this book have a wealth of information. I am anxious to apply some of the things I learned there, such as biofeedback and low tyramine diet, with my son.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Technical Book
Dr, Diamond has put together a book full good information relating to childhood headaches. It seems the book is targeted at other Doctors as much as it is for parents.Overall this book was helpful in learning about my daughters migrains but the diary section at the end was a little hard to use.Through my research to help my daughters I found a book that works great and is simple for parent and child to use. The title is "The Headache Detective" by John Ricker. It's a headache workbook designed for children that is easy to follow. It is prabably a little more helpful pinpointing what is causing your child's headache than Dr Diamond's book. Both books were helpfull

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what the doctor ordered
Headache and Your Child is "just what the doctor ordered."

In searching for information on abdominal migraines I kept coming across the name, Dr. Seymour Diamond. This book has helped us understand migraines and their causes as well as inform us about current treatment options that are available, everything from medication to biofeedback.Through the use of case studies, Dr. Diamond discusses up-to-date diagnostic tools and treatments. He reassures parents that while there are sometimes very serious underlying conditions, not every headache is an indicator of a brain tumor.

I highly recommend this as a "must have" book for the parent of any child that suffers from headaches, not just migraines. It can help in identifying the type of headache your child experiences and offer suggestions of appropriate treatments. If your child has already been diagnosed with migraines, it is still a wonderful reference book.

    Book Description

Is it possible the human brain isn't that complex after all? What started with unconventional therapies for my son's dyslexia turned out to become an amazing journey. A surprisingly low-effort therapy led to improvements unmatched by traditional therapies. As a result, his dyslexia and ADHD are essentially cured.

Being a computer specialist myself, I saw striking similarities with the capacity management of large computers and wanted to understand what was going on. This led to the development of a model that explains how the human brain may be processing information.

These experiences, in combination with the model, raised an intriguing question: Can it be that there is one common root cause for a whole list of mental conditions and disorders, as well as for general mental fitness? Can this root cause be "capacity bottlenecks" in different parts of the human brain?

The success claims of several unconventional therapies, combined with the model, provide reasoning that this is the case. Hence, and apart from providing fresh views for those suffering from mental conditions and disorders, this book is a request for research along those lines.

The list of potentially affected conditions and disorders includes, but is not limited to, dyslexia, ADHD, eye-focusing problems, poor concentration, poor memory, headache/migraine, depression, fatigue, autism, dyscalculation, obnoxious behavior, whiplash, dizziness and a lack of general mental fitness. Apart from this, it provides reasoning as to what may be causing and contributing to today's high violence and crime levels, and where solutions may be found.

5-0 out of 5 stars A revelation of simple, surprisingly low-effort therapies
Written by Eugen Oetringer, an information technology specialist and father of a dyslexic child with ADHD, Surprise Treatment for Dyslexia, ADHD, Headaches and Other Conditions: It's All About Information Management is a revelation of simple, surprisingly low-effort therapies that the author has seen succeed well beyond the measure of traditional therapies. Based on this experience, Oetringer has created a model to explain how the human brain may be processing information, and uses it to explore the possibility that there is a common root cause for a panoply of mental conditions and disorders. Chapters discuss the "surprise therapies", from reiki to music therapy, rapid eye movement therapy, and more, as well as the Information Management Model of the human brain and what it has to say about mental capacity. Part scientific hypothesis, part extension of hope through inexpensive alternative therapies for anyone suffering from mental disorders that do not respond to conventional treatment, Surprise Treatment for Dyslexia, ADHD, Headaches and Other Conditions is an insightful look into the absolute cutting edge of medical knowledge and beyond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alternative Therapy Gets Desired Result - Healing
This book was more than I expected. As a person that likes natural therapy, Mr. Oetringer's book shares how he sought alternative therapy for his family after not getting the result he desired from traditional medicine. After reading this book, it was comforting to see that other people are starting to question what traditional treatment says and are no longer satisfied with a band-aid. However, they are seeking a solution to the root problem. Thanks Mr. Oetringer for opening up and being honest about the steps you chose to deal with ADHD and Dyslexia. What you share in this book, can very well impact the lives of many. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Enjoyed it!
I found the different cases that Dr. Johnson discussed to be very enlightening, especially the cases on fibromyalgia. My Mom has suffered with this terrible disease for years.I thought that he really hit the nail on the head when he decribes the fibromyalgia patient in Chapter 8.I only wish I could get my Mom to see Dr. Johnson. She lives in L.A. and Dr. Johnson's office is in WI.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Experience...................
I heard this author on the radio, so I ordered his book because I have suffered with fibromyalgia for the past 6 years.I thought the book gave some good information, so I called Dr. Johnson's office and asked if they could refer me to someone in Boston who could help me.The receptionist told me that someone would get back to me by the end of the day.Later on that afternoon, I received a call from the author himself. He told me that he had a good friend that practices in Boston and that he would help me get in to see him as soon as possible.I have an appointment set up for next week and I am looking forward to feeling better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book with Good Info
A patient of mine gave me a copy of this book and asked for my opinion. He has been suffering from dizziness for the past seven years.I am a family physician and have referred this patient to numerous specialists over the years.I have never heard of a "chiropractic neurologist", but I found this book to be very informative. In the first two chapters the author explains his path to health after he had suffered from migraine headaches for many years.I enjoyed the case histories in many of the chapters and found some of the treatments interesting. I say "interesting" because I may not agree with all of them.I placed a call to the author to ask specific questions concerning my patient and I was impressed with his grasp of what could be causing the vertigo.I recommended my patient to this author and I will recommend his book to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for the Hopeless
I suffered with fibomyalgia for 18 years before my family physician (yes, you heard it right, as in M.D) handed me a copy of this book. I read it in one day which is probably the fastest that I have ever read a book in my life.I finished it on a Sunday and on Monday I called Dr. Johnson's office to schedule an appointment.I became a patient even though it was a one hour drive one-way to his offfice. That was 6 months ago and I can honestly say that this is the best I have felt in the last 13 years.I have more energy, I am sleeping better than I have in my life, and best of all, I am free of pain.Sure I get minor aches and pains like everyone else if I over do it, but I finally feel "normal" again for the first time in years.
This book is right on the money and if you suffer, then you have to read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gave me hope that I can get better.I hope that I can find a Chiropractic Neurologist in my area that cares about his patients as much as Dr. Johnson.I did not understand why I was suffering from constant pain and light-headedness until I read this book.I really identified with a number of the case histories that were presented in the chapters on migraines and dizziness.Although there were some big words used, the author explained them as he went along. If you suffer from chronic pain or dizziness, I highly recommend "What Do You Do When the Medications Don't Work?" ...
