Book Description
It's hard to believe you're dying when you feel fit and fine...but millions of Americans are harboring unaware a condition that can rob them or kill them outright--hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, the most common form of heart disease. Even when hypertension is diagnosed, treatment is usually based on drugs, most with dismal side effects, expensive, and of limited usefulness.

Really effective treatment of hypertension calls for getting at the cause--which, Dr. Eric Braverman has found, often relates to poor diet, elevated cholesterol, excess weight, stress, and biochemical imbalances. With Dr. Braverman's 30- to 90-day program, patients have lowered their blood pressure and, in some case, even reversed the course of existing heart disease.

Based on extensive research and long clinical experience, Dr. Braverman's program can open the way to the longer and better-enjoyed life that high blood pressure and heart disease are silently waiting to steal from us. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Why Drugs are Not the Answer to Heart Disease
What a wonderful idea Dr. Braverman promises - "REVERSE HEART DISEASE, Naturally" with his "30- to 90-Day No-More hypertension and Heart Disease Program" in 198 pages. Who is Eric Braverman? As founder and Director of PATH Medical (the Place for achieving Total Health) in New York City he's "considered one of America's most innovative physicians" according to his publisher Basic Health.

Updating his 1996 research by adding daughter Dasha Braverman's RAINBOW DIET (choosing the right fresh colorful fruits and vegetables) the results to be expected are a "Drug-free, robust life" in one year.

So you ask - How can you do it? Well, Braverman says you can:

Lower blood pressure to 120/80 - 135/85.
Triglycerides and cholesterol to below 200 and increase HDL to above 50.
Discontinue all beta-and alpha blockers, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors.

Just replace with his Special Formula's number 1 to 14.

Then, Reduce Stress with Cranial Electric Stimulation (CES) by sending gentle electrical signals to the vagus nerve in your brain with his RELAX-MATE, a TENS - a transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation unit, for 15-60 minutes a day to release GABA and acetylcholine in your brain because it's biofeedback like training for self control and peace of mind.

All that can help you to "break addictive food habits and destructive behaviors". Dr. Braverman defines depression "as anger turned inward" and suggests emotions "contribute to blockages in the large vessels supplying blood to the brain." New science that`s easy to follow and easy to use.

With this book anyone ought to be able to "Reverse Heart Disease -Naturally!"

Book Description
Congenital Diseases of the Heart: Clinical-Physiological Considerations, Fully Revised and Updated Second Edition represents the accumulated experiences of the author. Dr. Abraham M. Rudolph is recognized internationally as a leading contributor in the field of Pediatric Cardiology. Since the publication of the book's first edition in 1974, remarkable achievements in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques have been attained, making possible and necessary this thorough update of the work.

A uniquely important contribution of this new edition is the discussion of the hemodynamic and clinical features and their impact at various stages of development-from fetus to neonate to infant to child and adolescent. Due to the advent of prenatal ultrasound and Doppler flow studies, concepts of the influence of congenital cardiac lesions that were once based largely on conjecture can now be measured, compared, and quantified.

The book discusses congenital cardiac disorders from the perspective of the abnormal hemodynamics of the circulation, reviewing current concepts as well as controversial issues (such as the advisability of procedures for alleviating cardiac lesions in utero). The physiology of the fetal normal circulation is presented and the effects of congenital cardiac lesions are discussed with particular reference to the interactions between the lesions and fetal cardiovascular development. A list of carefully selected references offers further guidance to relevant literature.

Pediatric cardiologists, neonatologists, and pediatric intensive care physicians, as well as clinicians treating adult patients with congenital heart diseases, will find this updated classic to be useful, informative, and enlightening. ... Read more

Book Description

According to conventional wisdom, our genes and lifestyles are the most important causes of cancer, heart disease, and other killer ailments today. Conventional wisdom is wrong. In this bold, visionary book, biologist Paul W. Ewald argues that these serious illnesses are caused by a virtual plague of chronic infections. Acute infections give the sufferer symptoms almost immediately; the flu, cholera, even Ebola are all well-known and easy-to-identify examples of acute illnesses. Chronic infections, however, are stealthy predators that may not produce any symptoms for decades, and so remain almost undetectable, but eventually they ruin the sufferer's life. The netherworld of stealth infections is now opening before us.In Plague Time, Ewald puts forth an astonishing and profound argument that challenges our modern beliefs about disease: it is germs -- not genes -- that mold our lives and cause our deaths. Building on the recently recognized infectious origins of ulcers, miscarriages, and cancers, he draws together a startling collection of discoveries that now implicate infection in the most destructive chronic diseases of our time, such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, and schizophrenia. Acclaimed for years as one of the most important thinkers alive today on the genesis of disease, Ewald now explodes conventional medical thinking with a new comprehensive view of what germs do. Some people worry about dangerous germs "going global." In most cases it is already too late. The most dangerous germs among us have already been disseminated globally. Ewald explains how evolution in this worldwide environment makes some germs turn nasty while some become harmless. Most importantly, he shows how we can work together to master our modern infectious plagues by controlling disease evolution. He reveals that we live in an ecosystem of microbes, and we must understand them to avoid their deadly damage. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Persuasive eye opener
Professor Ewald lays out a very interesting and persuasive case for the potential involvement of infectious agents as the cause of many "non-infectious" diseases. This book offered a fascinating account into the history of disease and makes plausible predictions about future discoveries. I read this book several months ago and have since been keen to periodic news reports concerning recent discoveries linking infection as a possible cause for various chronic aliments. I believe Professor Ewald may be ahead of his time.

I'm not a medical professional, just an interested layman. Mr. Ewald's book is an easy read for a non-professional. If you're interested in the topic this book will not disappoint.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book. For the real science see the book on microcompetition
Ewald's idea is great, and the general public should definitely read his book and think about its basic premise. However, as an answer to the review by Douglas Turnbull, for the real science and the proof that an infection with a latent virus is indeed the cause of many chronic diseases, see Dr. Polansky's book on microcompetition. In his book, Dr. Polansky explains how foreign DNA modifies the production of cellular proteins, and how these changes translate into clinical symptoms. However, readers beware.Dr. Polansky's book is heavy reading, and is targeted towards the professional scientist, not the recreational reader (a simple explanation of the microcompetition discovery is available at www.causeofcancer.org)

4-0 out of 5 stars Being at the point of the spear is not easy...
If you categorize your self as an early adopter, I think you will appreciate the words written by Paul W. Ewald concerning the strong possibility of infectious agents (germs) causing the medical conditions of heart disease, cancers, HIV and Alzheimer's.He suggests many other diseases as well may be caused by germs.
There was a time not long ago (1980's) when the cause of peptic ulcers were clearly and almost universally accepted to include stress, genetic disposition and emotional anguish.Today, as a result of the acceptance that ulcers of this type are caused by germs, are successfully treated with antibiotics.
To my knowledge, the author is one of the early advocates of this theory that germs are the cause of many of the diseases not presently associated with being caused by them.As a result, he is often subject to harsh critical review from the present generation of medical experts.
I especially appreciated his suggestion for the creation of a data base made up of anecdotal reports ofunexpected positive results of the application of vaccines on chronicdiseases. The data base could supply direction for future research studies to explore.
Although I have no medical expertise, I found reading the book manageable but not an especially easy read. Even so, I found the time spent was very rewarding and left me feeling as though I was getting a pretty clear view of where the future of medicine is headed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Credibly incredible!
Dr. Ewald makes some outstanding points and raises questions that should have been raised 50 years ago. The idea that all (or most) cancers are microbes is old news, however. There was a group of doctors during the 1920's that isolated the virus in a microscope and were able to destroy the microbe using a radio frequency. People with cancer were being cured because these doctors were destroying the microbes with their radio frequency machine. These doctors' findings and the invention of their microscope were common knowledge and their success against the cancer microbe was published. But the growing medical establishment prevented its treatment from becoming mainstream and eventually destroyed their work. I recommend reading "The Cancer Cure That Worked: 50 Years of Suppression" by Barry Lynes to learn the story.

The world needs more insightful doctors like Paul Ewald. I highly recommend this book to learn about how viruses and other pathogens are causing so many of our health problems!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hard to read but worth the effort
Plague Time provides important and fascinating information about diseases, how they are acquired, their evolution, and their consequences. Professor Ewald contends that many chronic diseases such as several types of cancer, arteriosclerosis, schizophrenia, several types of arthritis, bipolar disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or even many symptoms of aging are the result of infections. The explanations of how these infections are acquired, and situations where the infectious agents are likely to be especially virulent are of great practical value.

Dr. Ewald's thesis is that infectious agents quickly evolve to maximize their reproductive success. Their virulence and the nature of the acute or chronic symptoms they cause are a function of how they are transmitted. The discussions of microbe evolution deepened my understanding of biology and evolution. There are many examples presented.

Many sections were unnecessarily wordy, with clumsy and overly long sentence constructions and much redundancy. This made parts of the book slow and heavy going. His frequent and often lengthy criticisms of the medical establishment are justified in my view, but sometimes got tiresome. In spite of the effort required, Plague Time is well worth reading. ... This book is the first single authored textbook covering the complete spectrum of surgical management of congenital heart disease. The author, Dr. Richard Jonas, is the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Children's Hospital Boston and the fourth William E Ladd Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Management of congenital heart disease today requires a collaborative effort by a large healthcare team including congenital cardiac surgeons but also pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac intensivists, pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, perfusion and respiratory technicians and pediatric nurses. All of these individuals need to have a clear understanding of the surgical manipulations that take place in the operating room. This textbook provides beautifully illustrations that clearly depict even the most complex procedures. But this book is much more than an operative atlas. It presents evidence-based medicine that provides numerous scientific citations which explain not only how an operation should be done but in addition when and why it should be done and the outcomes of these interventions. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Boston Souvenir
I found this book very intuitive, illustrations are wonderful, the author insights are exceptional. Although, I'm not a surgeon, this is still very good book for the anesthesiologist to understand the surgical perspective.
When I miss people and everything at Children Hospital-Boston. I get it all back again reading a chapter ,any chapter. It's so sentimental.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and comprehensive
I am a registered nurse, and I really enjoyed reading this book.It was written for the layperson, but I found it extremely clarifying and useful as well.Although women are the target audience, the basic heart information is also good for men.It talks about anatomy and physiology of the heart, info on various heart conditions, cardiac medications, cardiac tests and medical procedures, cardiac rehabilitation, and finally how to keep your heart healthy: through exercise, nutritious diet, stratagies for de-stressing, and quitting smoking. She also incorporates scientific research throughout the book, but uses it wisely.I highly recommend reading this book if you are interested in your heart health. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Cardiac Nursing: A Companion to Braunwald's Heart Disease
I ordered this to better my understanding of AVRT and AVNRT arrhythmias among other things.Initially reading it, I was very pleased and impressed. With further scrutiny, I was terribly disappointed to discover the Figure texts for Chapter 48(dysrhythmia chapter) and their associated diagram/pictorals were not matched properly-I could identify the ventricular arrhythmia 'mismatches', but not the AVRT and AVNRT diagrams. The very thing I spent $100 for was not reliable due to an editing flaw.Ihaven't reviewed all the other chapters-that was the editor's job, nor have I contacted the publisher to see what they intend to do about this flaw.I can see why this book is now $11 cheaper than it was 2 weeks ago! ... There's new hope for preventing and treating heart disease. If you suffer from heart disease, Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra has the solution you've been looking for: Maximize the amount of oxygen your heart extracts from your bloodstream by accelerating the rate at which your cells convert nutrients to energy. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good hope to heart patients and health providers
This book is a really welcome addition to the growing field of metabolic cardiology (the role of food nutritional supplements to improve heart health - not a dictionary definition).

The author is a Board Certified Cardiologist, a certified bioenergetic psychotheraist and a certified nutrition and antiaging specialist. At his practice in Manchester, Connecticut, USA, he integrates conventional medicine with complementary nutritional and psychological therapies to help heal the heart. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and is the author of several books, including Optimum Health, Heartbreak and Heart Disease, Heart Sense for Women, and Eight Weeks to Lowering Blood Pressure. Thus his credentials to write such a book are excellent.

The book gives detailed information, backed by many case studies and other published research papers on the role of Coenzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, D-Ribose and Magnesium in maintaining and improving heart health and also diseases of the peripheral blood vessels, muscles and conditions like Fibromyalgia etc.

The introduction by Dr. James C. Roberts, M.D, F.A.C.C. is really excellent and gives a good idea of the subject. Chapter 8 and the Conclusion also are helpful in allowing you to decide whether the book will be helpful for you. Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7 deal with the four supplements in detail. The book has a glossary, Resources, References and an Index.

An excerpt: In congestive heart failure (CHF), like other cardiovascular and many other disease syndromes, the actual root causes can be quite varied, from weakened heart muscle, to overly tight or overly loose heart valves, and so on. And while it is definitely appropriate that cardiologists (and other medical practitioners) use the conventional drugs mentioned to treat CHF - because they work - consideration toward adding powerful nutritional supports like L - Carnitine, coenzyme Q10, and D-Ribose is equally judicious.

Only by adding the these three nutritional supports will practitioners be treating symptoms as well as directing nutrition to the cellular level, where it can make a real difference on the underlying pathology. I have watched from the side lines as the simple addition of these nutrients has affected my patients' quality of life most positively... and has even helped them live longer than expected with their heart conditions.

(From Pages 93 and 94, Chapter 5)

End of the excerpt

I would suggest that you check out the Introduction, the Chapter 8 (Sinatra Solution) and the Conclusion. The subject is very difficult to explain in layman's language but the author and editors tried their best. Printing is very good.

For whom the book is meant: Patients and their care givers. Many health professionals will find this a good handy guide to the field of metabolic cardiology.

Recommendation: An excellent buy for preventive and maintenance care of the heart and general health. Will make an excellent gift to your family members, friends and their cardiologists and of course to yourself too!

5-0 out of 5 stars very strong info to help the heart
This book is written by an MD Cardiologist and contains very strong testimonial and evidence (to my mind at least) with plenty of references - and simple logical explanations of the chemistry in the body that make these supplements effective for many people with heart problems.I think it helped my Mom who had congestive heart failure after chemotherapy and now can walk 2 miles a day.Of course only God knows what is really going on.A lot of "industrial strength prayers" went up through Christ and I think this book coming into my hands was one result of this much prayer. She takes 2 of the supplements recommended by Dr. Sinatra. (PS I think healthy folks also might greatly benefit from these supplements he recommends - an ounce of prevention likely would pay off big time.)

I believe the info in this book will help tens of thousands of people overcome and/or survive many heart conditions that less informed MD's only know how to treat with drugs and surgery. The interesting thing to me is that Dr. Sinatra claims in this book that these supplements he recommends work in conjunction with and do not interfere with standard heart medications. So this is a win-win situation.Be warned that apparently most cardiologists are very ignorant regarding nutritional solutions (including supplements) for heart problems, so you would need to do your homework (and this book is a GREAT TOOL for this) before talking to your doctor. But Dr. Sinatra provides simple, basic and very strong and easy to understand info in this book that can be verified by a sincere inquirer, who really wants the truth.

(caution: I don't recommend Dr. Sinatra's other books that I have gotten, due to a bunch of well-meaning "New Age mumbo jumbo" (my editorial characterization, sorry!) that crept in, but the Sinatra Solution is a "meat and potatoes" tutorial on the benefits and the reasons why on 4 supplements that I think have proven very effective for many folks with serious heart problems.Particularly Co-Q 10 and Magnesium.

So I strongly recommend "The Sinatra Solution"
for anyone with heart problems or a loved one with heart problems, especially if these are caused by cancer treatments. And all cardiologists ought to read it so they don't get left behind.

Thanks, and sorry this review is somewhat lengthy!
PS I have bought extra copies of this book to give away, I really like it.

John

5-0 out of 5 stars vital information for medical providers
I gave an unfavorable review a few days ago, thinking of cardiac patients who probably won't get far in a book that is not well written. But the information Dr. Sinatra presents is so important, and so neglected by medical doctors, that now I deleted my former review, and now rate it five stars. Many cardiac patients will be much healthier if their doctors understand the importance of magnesium, enzyme coQ10, carnitine and ribose.
I am the author of HONEST NUTRITION and a book in progress about chronic diseases.I have learned much from Dr. Sinatra and his great newsletter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great advice!
I ordered Dr. Sinatra's other heart book "Heart Sense for Women" for my mother as a Mother's Day gift 5 years ago. The information she gleaned from that book has transformed her. Now both my parents are taking heart health supplements and doing great (they are in their 80's). They showed this latest book to their cardiologist (he is the head cardiologist at Johns Hopkins)who strongly recommended they continue on the supplements as he takes them as well. They look and feel great. I have since started supplementing myself since heart disease is hereditary. I would highly recommend this book to anyone concerned about their heart health. It's an eye opener.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book !
Dr Sinatra has written a great book ! It has lots of information that we can use.
He tells us that blood flow to the heart increases 38 % in people taking CoQ10, also this same people will have a 9 % improvement in the heart functional capacity. Foods rich in CoQ10 are Oily fish with high levels of Omega-3 (salmon ), organ meats and whole grains. (Just in case you decide to go the food way ). He also mentions that the best CoQ10 is made with the Bio-Solv technology and is called Q-Gel. Just Google it.

He says that the "Twin Pillars of Healing" are CoQ10 and L-Carnitine, they both enhance energy at a cellular level.
CoQ10 sparks energy in the cells and L-Carnitine is necessary to bring the fuel into the heart cells to be burned for energy, and the heart needs constant energy to pump properly.

He also talks about other very important nutrients like Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), OPC's (grape seed and Pycnogenol ), etc.

Psssss......Let me tell you a secret.....All of my MD. friends take CoQ10.

Buy this book, it's so good ! has so much detail. Also "Heart Sense for Women" by Dr, Sinatra , is excellent. ... Read more
