1-0 out of 5 stars The book is about alternative medicine rather than heartburn
This book is not about heartburn. The first part of the book is about all manner of digestive problems, and then even about disorders purportedly related to digestive disorders. The second part of the book suggests thatgood diet (especially yogurt), enemas, and something called probiotics willcure all diseases, and therefore incidentally also heartburn (which thushas served only as a marketing come-on to lure in buyers).I believe thereis much to be learned from alternative medicine, but this book actuallyoffers very little rigorous (supported) information. For entertainment, and in closing, let me quote a tidbit."Make the coffee enema byboiling six heaping tablespoons of ground coffee (not instant) in twoquarts of water for fifteen minutes, cooling to a comfortable temperature, and straining..."It is probably a very good idea to let that boilingcoffee cool a little before the anal consumption, but why is instant coffeenot good, and how does this fix heartburn? ... Product Description
Help is here--now and in the long term--for heartburn sufferers. This is the first book for general readers about treating and preventing one of America's most widespread medical problems. Much of the advice in Heartburn comes from the frontiers of medicine. It dispels myths about heartburn, calms fears, and points sufferers toward correct diagnosis and therapies. If you're a sufferer you should know: how and why acid reflux disease (heartburn) has come to be known as "The Great Masquerader"; what is the best medication for you; how antacids can help you and how they can sometimes harm you; why you may be taking the wrong dosage of your present medication or taking it at the wrong time; how to tell if your asthma, hoarseness, or chest pain is related to reflux disease; how lifestyle changes can help your condition; how a recently developed breakthrough drugtaken once a daycan virtually eliminate symptoms in less than two months. As Dr. Wolfe says in his introduction, "After you have read this book, you should be provided with the information to relieve or even cure" your condition. Originally published in cloth under the title The Fire Inside. For this paperback edition, the authors have updated the text throughout and added a new preface. ... Read more

If there is a better book on this subject, I've yet to find it. This one is logical, easy to understand, and well written. My copy is well-worn and highlighted on every page. If you have heartburn, read this book so you understand symptoms and the evolution of the various remedies. We live in a miracle age, there are drugs that can cure with no side effects. Thank you Michael Wolfe!

5-0 out of 5 stars *complete* and a good read!
you wouldn't think heartburn could be an interesting subject but this book was very readable. the information is easily understood and very complete. advice is given for all stagesand conditions. i was burping 500-1000 times a day and frequently had chest pain unlike any heartburn i had known. i had seen a report on tv that got me thinking about heartburnand this was the one heartburn book in our library. the advice given prompted me to try an over the counter h2 blocker(pepcid ac) and the symptoms reduced dramatically almostimmediately! but because the symptoms were not eliminated and indicate ulceration's, i amplanning a trip to the doctor seeking a prescription for prilosec so my ulceration's can healcompletely. i learned acid reflux can cause a host of problems with or without the accompanying symptom of heartburn and that life threatening ulceration's can develop with no symptomswhatsoever! the knowledge in this book should be useful to everyone atsome point in their life and a god send to those suffering from acid reflux. ... Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Heartburn," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Heartburn in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Heartburn when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Heartburn, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description

Heartburn and acid reflux have a nasty way of defying cure or prevention, but following the Great Physician's prescription for heartburn and acid reflux can alleviate symptoms and nip more serious problems in the bud. Acid indigestion and burning feelings in the chest often strike in the middle of the night with stabbing chest pain. At 1:30 in the morning, there are not a whole lot of options. Most approach the medicine cabinet with the fervent hope that there are a few Tums left in the bottle.

Jordan Rubin, along with Joseph Brasco, MD, is not so sure that taking antacids and powerful proton pump inhibitors best for people's healing or their health. The Great Physician's Rx for Heartburn and Acid Reflux reveals a more natural approach to beating heartburn and acid reflux based on the Seven Keys to Health and Wellness.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I purchased this book thinking there would be more of a medical explanation of the causes of heartburn, as well as a straightforward plan to tackle the problem.

Instead, I found an oddly religious theme woven throughout the book - encouraging readers to "thank the Lord", etc., along with a few uninspired, complicated recipes that require hours of preparation. Not very realistic for today's busy working profesional.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great Physician's Rx for Heartburn and Acid Reflux
I thought the book was informative, although I disagree with some of the suggestions.I also think that more medical information could be provided (e.g., information on PPI's, H2-Blockers, etc.).The author seems to be against anything that has to do with Allopathic medicine, and instead only emphasizes the naturapathic approach. ...
