Product Description
Mark Prater faced a silent killer in Hepatitis C, an insidious disease that slowly consumed his healthuntil he fought back with all the weapons of modern medicine. The struggle to regain his vitality proved as harsh as the disease itself, and, in Mark’s own words, seemed a burden nearly too heavy to bear. Mark’s story focuses not just on his illness, but on his faith, which in the depths of his illness led him to discover a deeper relationship with God. Public and private prayers for Mark and his family came from tens of thousands of sympathetic fans across the Southeast (Mark is a popular local television personality). Mark’s physical and spiritual fight against Hepatitis C taught him patience and, more importantly, faith in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Presently, Mark is free of the disease, his body leansed by a painful assortment of medicines and his soul healed by the cleansing power of prayer. Mark’s story offers inspiration to other sufferers looking for a way out of the depression and fear that conspire together in any long-term illness. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very real and very well written!
I truly enjoyed this book. I read it just as the beginning of treatment. He only did 24 weeks and I am just completing my 48th.My sides did not seem quite as severe as his were so please know that this is truly a personal journey and some may feel bad sides where others fly through this...just keep your mind open and don't be afraid to face this.It IS doable...and thanks to combo treatment I am not undetectable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Storm
Silent Storm is the perfect title for a book about Hepatitis C.Not only is Hepatitis C quickly spreading throughout the world, it is a disease we do not talk about openly. Two men who are not swayed by societal stigma are Mark Prater and Chris Carden. These authors openly tell the story of one family's journey through this devastating illness and describe the emotional side effects that are caused by its treatment. While this subject matter could have been too painful to read, the authors' focus on the blessings of family and friends, as well as, the family's ultimate faith in God make Silent Storm an informative and truly inspiring tale.

There is something about sharing a common experience with another person that somehow brings comfort, peace and the feeling that you are not alone. I read Silent Storm a month after my husband finished his treatment for Hepatitis C.Reading about the experiences of Mark and Carol Prater helped me begin my own healing process.Right now, my 13-year-old daughter is reading the book.My 15-year-old son will read it next.I thought that reading about how another family dealt with the situation would be helpful, especially the explanations about the changes in personality that occur during treatment. It was difficult for our teenagers to understand and accept the drastic differences in their father.Their heads understood that the changes in his personality were due to the medication, but their tender hearts could not help but to be hurt.Silent Storm may allow them to separate the side effects of the treatment from the man that continues to be their father.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has a family member, friend or co-worker with Hepatitis C.The story told will help readers understand that the negative side effects they see are not a reflection of the person they know and love. They are a reflection of a person struggling to be what they once were.Silent Storm shows us all that the struggle is worth fighting and that it is only through patience, love, and faith does one reach that goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Storm Finding Spiritual Shelter During Hepatitis C
Silent Storm takes you on a journey into the world of a Christian, who through no fault of his own, contracted and literally "fought" Hepatitis C.It expels myths about the disease and provides much needed facts. The language used makes it an easy read while it's fast pace and descriptive language holds your undivided attention. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.It helped me understand how widespread Hepatitis C is, as well as, how it can be prevented and treated.Since drug usage and sexual activity may begin at an early age, this book can be used at the elementary school level yet it is not so simple as to "turn off" the highly educated. It could be used in an English class, a health class, a Sunday School class or with a youth group. It has the makeup of a good film and would be very helpful in educating incarcerated offenders. As Mark Prater undergoesdiagnosis, treatment and prognosis, as the reader I felt as if I was experiencing what he and his family were going through. As he experienced depression and struck out at his family, I knew in my heart that they were able to remain accepting and loving because they loved him with the agape love of God.It was heart wrenching when Mark was ready to give up only one month short of completing his treatment. This demonstrates the ghastly effects of this disease and the treatment.I found myself on an emotional roller coaster as I traveled through this journey with Mark Prater and his family. The end of the book contains questions and answers involving Mark's doctors, which are very "down to earth" and enlightening. This was a real eye opener for me.Because of the treatment involved it also helped me better understand the health issues of individuals undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.I will never think of a Hepatitis C or cancer patient the same again. Finally, once again through this book, I came to realize how blessed I am.I can't stop talking about this book and cannot give it enough accolades. In fact, I have bought several copies for gifts. This is a must read!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly moving and inspiring story
This is an important book for anyone battling Hepatitis. Mark's story is fascinating. You truly feel the emotional and psychological turmoil that Mark, his wife, his children, family and friends felt. Mark's insights into the world of television news and the interplay between battling a chronic disease and remaining in the public eye are inspiring. His faith and devout spirituality along with his sheer willpower to overcome send an important message to anyone battling Hepatitis or any other chronic disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!!!!!!!!
Being able to watch and listen to Mark Prater on a daily basis thru TV and radio and getting to listen to a update from day one of the announcement of his disease to current, the book gives so much more detail of what his family, friends and co-workers went thru with him to aid in the healing of his body. This book will open your eyes and take you behind the man who we see with a bright smile and laugh to struggle with the treatments to overcome Hepatitis C.May God continue to Bless you Mark, Carol and family. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The angry tone and attitude of the book was a real turn off
First let me say right off, it is very obvious that this is a self-published book; this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but Mr. Wright forgot to have an editor review it before it went to print. The book is riddled with grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors, which tells me he considers himself 'above' double checking his work.

He sells the stuff is says is a 'cure' for HCV, but even in my newly diagnosed HCV state, and with my counter full of newly purchased herbs, I found his tirades and his 'magical' cures a bit hard to swallow. He justcomes across as a used car salesman.

That being said, he may very well be right on target with everything he claims, but the adolescent tone and the almost childishness of the writing makes it very difficult to believe. This book, while entertaining and informative, felt a lot more like a well crafted wallet probe than anything else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great info, other better resourses available
While the information in the book about herbs is useful, there are better books available that don't make claims of being able to cure HCV. The author reprinted his lab results for blood tests and used his liver enzyme levels as proof. However he did not show us his viral load and antibody test results which is what actually determines the presence of the virus. From experience I know that the herbs this author recommends do help the liver to function better as I have been able to get my enzyme levels back into the normal range with the same herbs, however I still have the HCV antibodies and a high viral load. I am not cured. I might be compelled to try the author's high-priced frozen vials of magic if I saw proof that people were clearing the virus. But none was offered. I thought the author wrote this book with a very angry tone and that the homophobia, sexism and racism was unnecessary and really turned me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is Hope!
The reviews by Dave (joke-scam) and Conan (don't be scammed) prompted me to add my own comments.I for one have found Lloyd Wright's information to be extremely helpful as was the man himself.

My husband was diagnosed in 1995, unfortunately his mother (a former emergency room RN) also had it and so did both of his brothers as it turned out - though the brothers were diagnosed after him. One brother completed interferon combo therapy, had supposedly cleared the virus, but died of heart problems within the year (he was only 49 - I believe this was a result of the treatment). The other brother tried interferon combo therapy, but had to discontinue it due to SEVERE side effects. There are many people who have Hep C who are not even candidates for Interferon as they have preexisting health or mental health issues (such as depression, anxiety and panic attacks) that preclude them from getting the treatment or should if the docs would read the warnings from the drug companies. From what I have seen the interferon therapy should be a LAST resort.

Speaking to the comment about the expense of the Alternative treatments, many things you can do are relatively inexpensive and can have tremendous benefits for your quality of life. Lloyd does give advice on just a basic program that is inexpensive and you do not have to buy from him.Keep in mind one thing though, as someone who had researched many alternative remedies before stumbling onto Lloyd's site, vitamins, minerals and herbs' effectiveness depends very much on how they are processed and prepared and it is very difficult to verify you have found reliable, effective products. There is a lot of crap out there.I was lucky to have a friend who is an ND who was able to steer me to quality products.Between my research and my friend I was already using most of the vitamins/herbs recommended by Lloyd, but his prices were cheaper for these quality products than I could get them elsewhere.I very much understand the concern about Lloyd's direct involvement with some of the products he sells, that can be a conflict of interest. However, I have come to understand that his involvement has been to get products to us at better prices or to make available a product that we would not otherwise be so.He understands better than most what the aches and pains are, he has learned much and has put that knowledge to use to get us products that truly help. If you continue explore alternatives, you will find this scenario is not that unusual as there are many that have taken things into their own hands and produce their own formulas because they could not find either the quality or correct formula in the current marketplace. Also regarding expense, neither writer addresses the fact that the year long interferon combo treatment costs at least $25,000.00 (no that's not a typo), so if you do not have insurance you're pretty SOL.They did not complain that interferon treatment takes a year for 1a, why is that OK? The herbs cost much less than that, even if you do use the Natcell Thymus. My husband has used the Natcell Thymus with wonderful results. He was tested just before starting it and his viral count was over 2,000,000 and at the time we discontinued it, about 4 months later, that test showed his count at 330,000.I think we could have done better, but unfortunately he'd developed some other medical problems that required our immediate attention and money so we had to stop. Also he had to start using some pain medications just before the second test so we were likely even closer than these numbers indicate (many anitbiotic, psychiatric and pain medications can lead to major increases in viral count). One last thing, Lloyd has been collecting test results from his clients (voluntary of course)to track their progress and to serve as evidence that alternatives can and do work.

Best of luck to all of you who are lost and searching.I wish you health!

5-0 out of 5 stars Triumph Over Hepatitis C : An Alternative Medicine Solution Revised Edition
A fine book about the courage and persistance of a man faced with a serious disease, which he ultimately overcomes outside of the "profits first healing and restoration of health second"American allopathic medical system.A review of the herbs and nutritional substances used by Mr. Wright is well founded in the literature (herbal & naturopathic literature) for the treatment of liver disease and the support and restoration of liver health.

The review by "Conan the Librarian" though articulate and entertaining shows that "Conan" has distinct lack of knowledge about the modalities dicussed in Mr. Wright's book.(He obviously has not reviewed the literature.) What is interesting is he tries to pass off his lack of knowledge and understanding as the litmus test of truth or accuracy of what works or doesn't work in the healing of Hepatitus C. Sorry "Conan" but your book review is worthless because it is based upon your ignorance of the facts as opposed to a thorough and deep knowledge of them. And for "me to Dave" whose review obviously indicates he has not even read the book. Spare us all the ignorant rants.

For those of you who are interested in finding effective herbal treatments for hepatitus C another good book on the subject is "Healing Hepatitis C with Modern Chinese Medicine" by Qingcai Zhang.Dr. Andrew Weil has recomended Dr. Zhang's effective herbal approach to hepatitus C quite successfully.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Lloyd.
I was devastated when I heard the news I had Hepatitis C.If you're reading this review, you are probably going through the same thing. It's quite a shock.

Please don't hesitate to get this book.I bought others, but this one is working. He tells you what to take and how much. He also gets into detail regarding the supplements.

Lloyd somehow maintains a sense of humor throughout which helps immensely.Under the stress of hearing you have Hepatits C,humor is welcomed and needed. What he went through will amaze you that he is alive today.I'm sure he has angels watching over him to bring this protocol to all of us in need.

Run from your MD if he wants to treat you with drugs.I've been to 2 Natreopaths, a Nutritionist, and four Gastro MD's.My advice is: buy this book and use it.It works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Survivor's guide for Hep C
This book is an excellent resource for anyone diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
The American Liver Foundation continues to keep people informed and up to date on new treatment protocols.

5-0 out of 5 stars Starting to live again
I was recently diagnosed as having hepatitis c.The immediate effect was shock and disbelief.I was under the mistaken impression that the way a person contracted hep c was by IV drug abuse or a tainted blood transfusion. This threw me for a loop since the only blood I had ever recieved was in 1950 and 1959 and I had never abused any drugs, I had no idea this virus existed back when I had recieved blood.I was afraid to tell my family what I had and therefore had no support. After reading this book not only did I have more information with which to approach my family but an idea of what to expect in my life from here on out.It is seldom one finds an information type book that is written in a way that makes it an easy read but this one falls in that category.Even those in the mid adolescent years would have no problem reading and understanding the information.I have already purchased a copy of this book to give my daughter when I tell her that I have this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is My Hepatitis C Bible
This is one of the most comprehensive Hepatitis C books available.Being written by a patient and Heptologist, it seems easy to understand.I'm on the Transplant List with encephalapathy and have a hard time remembering what I'm told at the Drs., or where I put the paper I wrote it down on.I find the information available in this book is like taking the Dr. home with me. I relate to alot of the patient stories and am encouraged by those who are now post transplant.I spend my time helping others with Hepatitis C on the Internet and will definitely be reccomending this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Just Surviving
This comprehensive book is a blessing! It decodes medical terminology and the latest treatments and research into plain English. The quotes from actual patients on different therapies and in different stages of thedisease really make you feel like you're not alone. With explanations ofthe most current research on both traditional and alternative treatments, this book clearly stands out from the others on this topic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading Western Medicine Biased View
This book has overlooked the role of alternative therapies such as acupuncture and herbology inthe treatment of Hepatitis C.Additionally, they do not even mention the wonder herb, milk thistle. They only putnegative connotations to anything that isn't good-old-US approved.Thechapters on emotional and nutritional care are far from complete as theylack depth and advocate only a small fraction of what is available to thosewho suffer.Don't waste your money on this one! ... Product Description
This econometric study covers the outlook for hepatitis c virus (hcv) therapeutics in Europe. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the countries in Europe). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E. for hepatitis c virus (hcv) therapeutics in Europe. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the national markets of Europe. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The First Book In My Arsenal Against The Hep C Virus
As the Multicultural Outreach Coordinator for the Hepatitis C Association, I am truly excited about this book and all it has to offer to the African-American community. The information is easy to read, easy to understand, and relates well to its target audience.
Viral hepatitis - related cirrhosis is the leading cause for liver transplantation as well as the leading cause of liver cancer. There is no way we can transplant the anticipated
number of people who will develop cirrhosis, unless we diagnose folks earlier and treat them before the liver is irreversibly damaged or develop liver cancer. As African-Americans, we are most at risk from this disease, and not just from a medical angle, but socio-economically speaking, we will be adversely affected in every area of our lives.

This book is the wake-up call for African-Americans to take control of their health and lifestyle choices by getting tested early (NOW), and to become advocates for more research in this area.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good comprehensive resource about Hepatitis C
Winning the Hepatitis C Battle is an extremely reader-friendly book, meant for patients, supporters, doctors and health-care professionals - in short, any one who needs to know about hepatitis C and the treatment options against it. Written by Dr.Shekhar Challa, M.D., Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, the book provides a single-stop handy reference to patients and their families/friends, when the diagnosis of Hepatitis C comes up first. It helps the other health-care professionals, physicians and yes, even the specialist by saving his/her valuable time and energy in explaining to the patients/supporters, the many questions that are bound to arise in the context of such a diagnosis.

With the help of a beautifully produced and easy-to-understand book and an interactive CD-ROM, Dr.Challa and his team explain all that a person needs to normally know about this Silent Epidemic.

The book starts right from the beginning, that is the Diagnosis, then explains the seat of action - the Liver, its functions, the differences between Hepatitis A, B,...E, specific signs, symptoms and complications of Hepatitis C. It then goes on to the treatment options, and looks at the alternative treatment and special situations.

The book has FAQs, Glossary, links to useful websites and an Index. All in all, the book is a complete handy reference guide to the Successful Treatment of Hepatitis C.

Dr.Challa brings out the various advances in treatment options including as-on-today, the most successful combination of pegylted interferon and Ribavarin. But he brings out that the most important ingredients in the treatment protocol and which only the patient can supply are courage and optimism. These in fact, give the desire to live to the patient. Without that desire, even the best physician can't help. So, what ever may be the stage of the disease, beginning, advanced, or resistant to the standard treatment, the message is simple - never give up.

Coming from a main stream gastroenterologist, the treatment of the chapter 6, Herbs and Alternative Medicine is fairly unbiased and this reviewer didn't expect a more active support to or detailed coverage of an important topic. Though not medically qualified, this reviewer has a long association and interaction with health-care professionals including those from the alternative systems and is thus aware of many successful treatment options. But to be fair to the author, Dr.Challa doesn't forbid you from following the alternative treatment route. He could have avoided the statement, ""Even though it is clear that alternative medicine therapy has minimal or no role in treatment of hepatitis C, ..."" and instead, could have offered to work with such patients who need to take the alternative treatment route for any reason, including the problem of side-effects, the enormous expenditure or the ineffectiveness of the Standard Treatment.

This book is primarily meant for the US Market, and hence discusses the statistics of Hepatitis C in USA, and the examples of the Patient Case Studies are also from USA. The basic principles of Hepatitis are of course common and aplicable to any one any where in the world. To that extent, this book will be of interest to the rest of the world.

One attractive feature of the CD-ROM (which is bundled with the book) is the incorporation of a Cross Word Puzzle to test the user of his/her understanding of the subject. The CD-ROM addresses the same subjects dealt with in the book, but will be found to be useful to those who don't like to read or understand better from an inter-active Audio-Assisted Video presentation of the subject. The book, on the other hand, will be appreciated by people like this reviewer, who found it slightly difficult to follow the American accent. The book is well produced and is a pleasure to work through. Together, the Book+CD provide a good value to the buyer. It makes for a good gift to oneself or to some one who you think will benefit.

In conclusion, this reviewer would like to compliment Dr.Challa for bringing out a readable, reliable and affordable (for the US Market) publication on one of the major Health concerns.
