Product Description
This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to hereditary spastic paraplegia (also Familial Spastic Paraplegia; Spastic Spinal Familial Paralysis; Strumpell Disease; Strumpell-Lorrain Familial Spasmodic Paraplegia; Strumpell-Lorraine Syndrome; Strumpell's Familial Paraplegia), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on hereditary spastic paraplegia. Given patients' increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). Hard-copy users of this sourcebook can type cited Web addresses directly into their browsers to obtain access to the corresponding sites. 1-0 out of 5 stars Review for book on Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia
There were some good internet links, most of the links were outdated, non-functioning. The parts re nutrition were of no use. Would have liked more up to date info, info on neurologists specializing in this disease. I found more info on the internet by "goggling" the term "hereditary spastic paraplegia" than I did in the book - this had a copyright of 2002 - not sure if there is a newer book out

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag of info
First, what the book is not.It is not a complete source for learning about HSP.In fact, it defines HSP in a single paragraph (and this was "lifted" from a web site). You cannot take this book on vacation and learn about HSP while watching the kids swimming in the pool.

Now, what the book is.It is a "directory for the internet age".This gives many, many links to resources on the internet where you can find more information. It describes how to do your research, and where you can find support groups. It will not be outdated in a couple of years, because the web links it uses will still be valid, but the web sites themselves will have updated information.

In short, make sure you have access to the internet (which you obviously do, or you could not be reading this review).I would have preferred a bit more meat in this book, especially considering the price.I enjoy doing research on the internet, but I enjoy reading a book while resting in my easy chair better. ...
