Product Description
The most common cause of thyroid disorders in industrialized countries including the U.S. is autoimmune thyroid disease. The disease process is caused by thyroid antibodies, also called auto-antibodies sent from the immune system that mistakenly recognize the thyroid gland an an intruder or invader in the body.

Over time, thyroid autoimmunity causes hormone imbalance resulting in either hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

In this 6,545word ebook, I have endeavored to provide a study resource on the subject of thyroid antibodies, including my perspective and experience as an autoimmune thyroid disease patient with hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Subjects addressed in the chapters, include descriptions of these thyroid antibodies and how they are blood-tested for, to detect developing or overt thyroid diseases. An important question also discussed, is that of whether or not symptoms of thyroid disease can occur as a result of thyroid antibodies, before hormone levels become abnormal (short answer - "yes").

I, Jim Lowrance - the author served as Thyroid Health Editor for BellaOnline.com from March 2008 to May 2009 and have written over 100 general health articles for Suite101.com, where I have received Editor's Choice Awards. I have had the privilege of writting requested reviews of books authored by other health writers, including Mary Shomon and Dr. Mark Starr MD. ... Read more

Product Description
“A Complete Look at Hypothyroidism”, includes key information I have gained from my own extensive research and experiences as a hypothyroid patient and from my experience as Editor and Moderator of a thyroid disease website.

The information I have compiled in this also comes from e-mail and forum correspondence with 1,000s of other hypothyroid patients, since year-2003.In this e-book, I address the key subjects involving hypothyroidism including symptoms, diagnosis and treatments. I also discuss the causes and types of hypothyroidism, affecting millions of people in the U.S. and worldwide.

In March of 2003, at age 40 I experienced the onset of autoimmune thyroid disease but was unaware for several months of what was causing my symptoms. Through blood lab testing, I was found to have hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroiditis. Due to the slow onset of the disease and my delay in starting treatment for it, I also developed co-morbid (co-occurring) conditions. I have since adjusted better to my treatment and have seen significant improvement in symptoms.

I discovered through my own experience that thyroid disorders, especially hypothyroidism can include many complications. This inspired me to learn more about my disease and about thyroid diseases in general and about the conditions that are co-morbid to them.

Following my searching and researching, I began writing online articles in the year 2005 for websites including BellaOnline Thyroid Health - where I also served as editor and forum moderator and Suite101 General Health.

I have endeavored in this 7,755 word ebook,to share the information of most importance to readers or newly diagnosed hypothyroid patients on the subject of hypothyroidism.

Patients with thyroid diseases can experience complications despite being treated for their thyroid disorders. Some complications may be related to inadequate treatment that is in need of being better-optimized while other complications arise due to the disease itself and must be treated as a seperate health disorder.

In this e-book I have endeavored to address the more common complications seen in thyroid patients and the treatments that are commonly recommended for them. I also relate my personal experience with some of these thyroid disease related complications and the treatments I undertook to resolve them.

Included in the chapters are discussions on hair loss, diminished sex drive, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, diabetes risk and prevention and much more.

Now writing for multiple sites, I was Thyroid Health Editor for BellaOnline from March 2008 to May 2009 and have written over 100 general health articles for Suite101.com, where I have also received Editor's Choice Awards. I do not have a functioning thyroid gland due to radio active iodineobliterating my gland - a proceedure i needed to have - to destroy the pre-cancerous nodules which started growing. I was told back then - 30 years ago - that i needed to take synthroid for the rest of my life. however, taking that little pill daily has not always paved a smooth road for me, as often i have health issues with my thyroid and my TSH numbers are often way out of whack - anyway, having to deal with hypothyroidism for most of my adult life, i see a doctor regularly and i also appreciate reading good, informative books about the thyroid. i found this book to be just that and have added it to my library and would recommend it to others. ... Product Description
The One “Roid” You Should Know All About
No, it’s not the illegal stuff taken by misguided athletes.
It’s not a prescription prescribed by your physician to cure an ailment.

This particular “roid” is actually much more dangerous than all the others combined – especially when it isn’t functioning properly. Give up? It’s the “thyroid.”

This innocuous little gland can be the harbinger of horrible things to come or it can be one of your body’s best friends. It all depends on whether it is functioning in a healthy manner or if it isn’t working properly.

Many people have no idea how important to a healthy body the thyroid is. One of the problems is recognizing the symptoms of thyroid disease. The symptoms can replicate other illnesses, initially making it difficult to diagnose.

Another problem is the variety of symptoms. They run the gambit depending on whether you have a hypothyroid or a hyperthyroid.

Aching muscles to brittle fingernails along with a laundry list of other symptoms could be indicative of Hypothyroidism. If that isn’t confusing enough, a Hyperthyoid can manifest as anxiety, fatigue, bowel problems as well as a host of other problems.

We’ve established that it is difficult to diagnose. The symptoms, if left untreated, can result in serious medical problems up to and including heart disease and death. In other words, it’s not something to mess around with.

What Can You Do?

Well, the first thing you need is answers. You need to learn all the different symptoms of thyroid disease. We named a few above but there are numerous other considerations.

“Understanding the Thyroid” has all the information you need to reach a decision as to whether you need to get medical help. Not only will you get a full list of all the symptoms we touched upon here, you will also learn about many more serious complications.

For example, there is an entire segment on who is at risk for thyroid disease. Also discover what the differences are between the hypo and hyper designations.

Did you know that there is a correlation between a woman’s cycle, here thyroid and fertility? It’s all about balance. This is a must read for women who wish to become pregnant.

Are You a Ticking Time Bomb?

One of the insidious factors at play with thyroid disease is that the symptoms take so long to manifest that you can be in full thyroid disease mode and not really know it.

Learn just how the symptoms can mimic other ailments and why it’s so important to get a proper diagnosis. Joint pains, obesity and infertility are all potential symptoms of other diseases but you may not know to link them thyroid disease.

Early detection is imperative!

That lack of knowledge can be deadly!

Drop whatever you are doing right now. Yes, it’s that important! Grab your copy of “Understanding the Thyroid.”

Hopefully you, or your loved one, will never be diagnosed with thyroid disease. But if you have the slightest inkling that some of the brief symptoms we’ve discussed here might apply to you . . .?

Well, as the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” That couldn’t be truer in this instance.

Who in the heck thought that increased perspiration, accelerated heartbeat or frequent bowel movements could be a sign of hyperthyroidism?

Or that menstrual changes, depression or infrequent bowel movements could point to hypothyroidism.

Did you know that the diet for either form of thyroid disease is totally different? What one should eat for a hyperthyroid is not the same as it is for the hypothyroid. You’ll learn about that inside “Understanding the Thyroid.”

The line between the two forms of thyroid disease is a fine one, but it shouldn’t be ignored. Thyroid disease is complicated. You need to understand it so you or your loved one does not become just another statistic! ... Read more
