5-0 out of 5 stars The only resource for women with birth injuries resulting in anal incontinence
As a nurse educator, I found this book invaluable; I suffered injured muscles during childbirth of my first child which did not show up until 35 years later as fecal incontinence.I had a prolapsed bowel and had 13 inches of my colon removed. Now a close friend, at 38 years of age, is experiencing the same thing. This is a common experience among women during childbirth yet I was misdiagnosed by 3 physicians. The only help is this book, which I am sending to this friend. There should be more books and magazine articles about this common condition, and these women need the expertise of colon surgeons following childbirth to insure proper treatment that will prevent the occurrence of this condition. An explanation of the condition and how to get expert help and support is contained in this valuable book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and informative;clearly understood
I read this book at suggestion of my therapist. I later purchased this book to be able to refer to it.I am a nurse and am having difficulty understanding what is happening to my body.I found this book basic enough for the lay person and still not insulting to my intelligence.I would recommend this book to anyone who is having problems with anal incontinence. ... Product Description
This econometric study covers the outlook for ostomy and incontinence products in Africa & the Middle East. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the countries in Africa & the Middle East). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E. for ostomy and incontinence products in Africa & the Middle East. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the national markets of Africa & the Middle East. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

Product Description
This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for adult incontinence products across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as "regions"). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of "economic population", as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this "economic" definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city's marketing and distribution value vis-a-vis others. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Product Description
Thirteen million Americans and at least half of the 1.5 million nursing home residents in the U.S. experience urinary incontinence (UI), yet many people go without treatment because they feel embarrassed or don’t realize that UI is highly responsive to treatment. Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly discusses how to educate health care providers and the public about UI and how physicians, directors of nursing, and other health care providers can begin and maintain a comprehensive, science-based approach to diagnosing and treating UI. In no time at all, you will be able to implement effective treatment plans that are consistent with your patients’conditions, goals, and wishes.

In addition to its practical techniques and steps for managing acute and chronic UI, Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly contains tables and charts that will help you diagnose the patient’s condition, identify the causes for UI, and select appropriate treatment methods. The book also gives you a list of helpful questions to assist you in the identification and assessment of UI and sample bladder records so that you or your patient can keep track of voluntary and involuntary urine voidings. To further increase your understanding of UI and its management, this helpful guidebook discusses:

  • teaching women about gestational and postpartum pelvic muscle exercises
  • proper bladder-emptying techniques
  • behavioral, pharmacologic, and surgical treatment of UI
  • risk factors associated with UI, such as low fluid intake, high-impact physical activities, diabetes, and estrogen depletion
  • stress incontinence
  • how your body makes, stores, and releases urine
  • ensuring proper care of long-term residents

Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly will help consumers and caregivers treat and manage UI, but it will also enable them to work together to target and alleviate specific risk factors before UI even sets in. Don’t let UI go untreated--with dedicated teamwork and this book’s advice and suggestions, you can overcome it, or at least manage it, with surprising levels of success.

Product Description
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "ostomy and incontinence products" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. ... Read more

Product Description
Neurobiology of Incontinence Chairman: C. D. Marsden 1990 Incontinence is the loss of voluntary control over the bladder or bowel and is a very common and often devastating problem which goes largely unacknowledged. This major clinical condition requires increased attention from basic research workers if the underlying mechanisms are to be elucidated. The symposium was therefore designed to bring together neuroscientists working on the basic biology of the bladder and bowel and clinicians dealing with the various clinical manifestations of urinary and faecal incontinence. The resulting volume is unusual in its wide coverage, it includes chapters on the innervation and functional anatomy of the urinary tract and anorectal region and on the central neural control of these two areas. Other papers discuss the functional assessment of the anorectum and bladder, stress urinary incontinence and the neurogenic hypothesis of incontinence, detrusor - external sphincter dyssynergia, and pharmacological and surgical approaches to the treatment of urinary and faecal incontinence. Treatment by means of surgically implanted prostheses is also considered. The aim of the symposium is to stimulate scientists to enter a challenging research area in order to undertake the further basic investigations into mechanisms which would lead to advances in the understanding, treatment and—above all—prevention of a distressing and prevalent condition. Neurophysiologists, neurologists, neuroanatomists, neuropharmacologists, urologists, gynaecologists, colorectal surgeons, nurses, and biomedical engineers concerned with prosthesis design, will all find this book of interest to them.
