5-0 out of 5 stars Good balance of scientific evidence and practical information
As a scientist, it is comforting to know that there are authors out there that know that many people would like to know scientific information without being treated like a specimen. This book gives great scientific citations while also giving practical information and personal stories.I think it is a good balance for this type of book.

I was encouraged to see evidence of what some major religions thought about different infertility treatments-this is often left out of such books, but these authors realized that it is important to many people.

The book itself discusses causes, treatments and psychology around male infertility. It discusses from both the male and femal perspective, which I believe is important. There are many great references in the back of the book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for those in need.
This was a great book for us.Very easy to read - it had the technical stuff but explained in a very down to earth way.It covered many subjects from IVF, IVF ICSI, donor sperm. All in non-judgmental ways, I gives you the facts of all and lets you decide without steering you one way or the other. It also discusses some of the causes.I thought the books was super and should be required reading for all couples that are in this situation.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just the facts, ma'am
I am lucky in having pursued infertility therapy as a client (successfully, thankfully) as well as by being a urologist who treats infertility clients.I read this book to decide if it would be a helpful adjunct to the people I treat.I have decided not to recommend it to my clients.I would sooner have them read Larry Lipshultz's book, technical as it is.

While the medical information in the book appears accurate, there is an awful lot of fluff and touchy-feely content obscuring the medical information that is important. At times, the text is downright pandering.

As a urologist who treats infertily patients (successfully, I might add), I found the belittlement of those of us without fellowship training insulting and capable of undermining the confidence of my clients. The benchmarks they site as marks of expertise are entirely artificial and appear self serving; 'don't go to any practitioner who doesn't...do it like we do.'Hopefully the discerning couple will see through the alarmist threats that you will receive inferior medical care and results unless bring your money directly to a university hospital, fellowship trained infertility specialist who only will accept cash in advance of all visits and procedures.Unfortunately, such content only deters those without the means or proximity to visit such fellowship trained infertility specialists from pursuing their care through the resources they do have access to.

Until this book is revised in a way that eliminates the self serving content directing people to refer themselves to specialist with like training of the authors, I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone.Additionally, eliminating a bit of the fluff would be extremely helpful in assisting people in actually finding worthwhile current treatment practices.

This is one of the best infertility books I have purchased. Most of the other books leave out valuable statistics and information that made me more curious than before reading the book. This book however, gave me detailed information that was invaluable! It is well written and researched!Being a doctor myself, I was thankful that someone actually included scientific results and information along with all other sorts of data.I would strongly recommend this book to anyone struggling with male infertility!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Joy of the Lord is my Strength
As a mother who has struggled with infertility issues, this book really encouraged me to remember that God is in control.Bobbi shares her very personal story in a way that anyone who has struggled with infertility can relate to.I would imagine everyone could be encouraged by this book to trust that God is involved in all the details and HE works all things together miraculously!

5-0 out of 5 stars Evidence that God is in control!
Masterpiece of Joy by Bobbi Grubb gives the account of one couple as they experienced the emotional pain of infertility, but then found the joy of adoption. Those that are walking through these issues would thoroughly benefit from reading the Grubb's personal story.Even those that are not dealing with issues of infertility will be blessed as they see God's plan unfold.I was able to relate their experience to other areas of my life, and realize that even though in the midst of the storm, we cannot see what lies ahead, God is in control, and His purposes will be fulfilled. When we can truly grasp hold of that concept, we can rest in Him regardless of the uncertainty, disappointment, and chaos that may be going on around us. A definite must read!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story!
Masterpiece of Joy is a wonderful story.I was amazed at how God worked in the lives of this couple.Though they faced heartache, sorrow, and despair, they eventually found a way to cope and go on.Eventually, God blessed themin so many specific ways, it is amazing. The reader really feels what the author experienced, both sorrow and joy.It talks very openly about the physical and emotional difficulties of infertility, and the medical procedures involved in infertility testing. It also covers the decision making process in choosing open adoption. The reader will see the courage of birthparents who choose adoption and will be amazed how the adoption process resulted in peace and contentment for the birthmother as well.I think this book will provide valuable insight to infertile couples and their families, to couples considering adoption (and their families), and to birthparents considering adoption in an unplanned pregnancy. For others, it is just a great story you won't want to miss.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story about hope in the midst of pain
One question that I often grapple with is why so many bad parents have children, and people who would be great parents struggle with infertility. While I have had no personal struggles with infertility, I know many who have.Frankly, things just don't seem fairly distributed.

The author of Masterpiece of Joy struggled with the same question--but on a deeply personal level.Bobbie and her husband experienced years of unexplained fertility before finally being blessed with a child through adoption.

As you read Masterpiece of Joy, you will struggle with the Grubbs through their pain. You will also rejoice with them in their triumphs--not just the final triumph of the actual adoption, but all of the smaller triumphs along the way as they learned to deal with the pain of infertility.

I shed many tears as I read this book, both of sadness and joy.Yet I came away with a sense of peace, and the beginnings of an answer to my original question.I may never understand completely why so many bad parents are blessed with children while good people struggle with infertility, but it is very clear why the Grubbs went through their struggles.God chose them to be Jay's parents, and this is the way that had to happen.

I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with infertility or adoption, or anyone who simply wants to share in this couple's experience. But buyer beware:the picture of adoption is painted so beautifully, you might just start thinking you should consider the option yourself.I know I did--and I already have four children! ... Product Description
CHOICE explores the one of the most polarizing political issues of our time reproductive choice.

CHOICE attempts to raise the discourse on reproductive choice, which often devolves to clichés and name-calling, by posing the question--what is it like to make any sort of reproductive choice? What is it truly like to use birth control, the morning after pill, use a sperm bank, have an abortion, adopt a child, give a child up for adoption, bring a pregnancy to term?

In these 22 stunningly honest essays, writers describe their experiences making some of these decisions, as well as many others. Established writers such as Francine Prose, Jaquelyn Mitchard, Pam Houston, Carolyn Ferrell, Ann Hood, Deborah Macdowell, and Sarah Messer contribute essays, along with emerging writers such as Kimi Faxon Hemingway, Stephanie Anderson, and Ashley Talley.

The essays in CHOICE explore the complexities inherent in every reproductive decision, whether it is to choose to have a child or terminate a pregnancy; the guiding philosophy of the book is that this issue is too complex and individual to be legislated, and the writershonesty about their experiences will humanize this issue, no matter what the reader s stand on it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this amazing book
I can't imagine how anyone could remain unengaged by the stories in this book. I was moved almost to tears (and often actually to tears) by all of these women's powerful, beautifully written stories. I was given this book by a friend who wanted to buy it for all of her friends, it was given to her by a friend who also bought it for all of her friends, and I plan to recommend this book to everyone I know as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars somewhat disappointing...
I was eager to read this book after reading a favorable review in my local paper. As a woman who had experienced most of the topics covered in the book, I was looking for some insight from other women regarding these major events. However, I found the book rather flat and unengaging.A few of the essays really drew me in (Janet Mason Ellerby, Sarah Messer, and Kimi Faxon Hemingway all wrote powerful essays), but for the most part, I remained unmoved by their stories.I would recommend this book, but I would say, take it out of the library (sorry, Amazon!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible, powerful book
This is absolutely one of the most emotionally powerful, though-provoking, conviction-challenging books I have read in a number of years.I only wish I could give it six stars.

It is NOT, as some might think, all about the choice to have an abortion. It is about all the emotional, mental, and moral complexities of ANY pregnancy, and the desires, decisions, fears, and longings that go along with a pregnancy. There are stories of women who gave their children up for adoption, and have suffered the pain of wishing they could have kept their children for the rest of their lives. There are women who recount the histories of women in their family who did not have the choices that they themselves now have when faced with an abusive relationship, a pregnancy where the resulting child would be unlikely to survive, having absolutely no money to be able to take care of a child conceived despite carefully using birth control. There are women who had to choose between dying themselves and attempting to carry a much-wanted pregnancy to term. There are women who chose to become single mothers despite pressure to have an abortion or give up the baby for adoption. There are women who knew their fetus might be abnormal, but chose to have the baby, come what may. There are stories of women who had abortions, both legal and illegal, who had severe medical consequences as a result. There are women who had an abortion for an early pregnancy when they could not carry it to term, and are thankful for that choice because it gave them a chance at a better, happier life - and more children that they could care for and support - later in life.Women who miscarried, and have dealt with the pain of this loss.Women who adopted from another country, acutely aware of the terrible circumstances that must have led to the bio mother of their child having to give up her baby.Women who miscarried much-wanted children.Women who knew deep down that they were not meant to be mothers, and decided to not have children.

It is about choices - ALL the choices - associated with so many different pregnancy situations.

None of these situations are without feelings, without an awareness of other options or possibilities. Many of the women in these essays made decisions that they knew they had to make, but were gut-wrenching in the extreme. Many women in these essays support having ALL options available for pregnancies, even if they themselves strongly disagree with some of the options. In thinking forward to having my own family in the future and having never been pregnant (yet) myself, I have the utmost respect for most of the women in these essays in making these difficult choices (regardless of what choice they made) and strongly facing up to the consequences.Do not look for this book to be an unabashed endorsement of abortion - it is NOT that at all. That would be too simplistic to represent the reality of most women's situations when faced with pregnancy.

I believe that this book should not only be required reading for teen and young adult girls/women, but also for the boys/men too.I would also strongly suggest it for women's studies classes looking at reproduction.

I have already recommended it to several friends - one who appears to be infertile and is working on adopting from another country; another who is living with her boyfriend and will probably marry him, but may or may not be ready to be a mother now should she get accidentally pregnant; to a woman who got easily pregnant with her first two children, and conceived through a fairly foolproof form of birth control for her third.

Choices.

Even if you assume you will disagree with many of the decisions made here, pick up the book anyway. You may be surprised at the empathy you have for the women in these essays - and that you may even have something in common with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Paperback Edition
There is also a paperback edition of this book which ships immediately:

Choice: True Stories of Birth, Contraception, Infertility, Adoption, Single Parenthood, and Abortion

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading
I feel this book should be required reading for teen girls as part of a comprehensive sex education curriculum. The stories are individuals' accounts of reproductive choices made. I like that it is not judgmental or weighted heavily to one side or the other. The topic of abortion is so loaded, with both sides apparently so entrenched, that it is humbling to read about the actual effects from people's experience, and to realize that the women involved are people who have struggled with their choices. The book is not limited to abortion but touches on various areas of reproductive choice. While I feel men could learn a lot from the narratives, ultimately it is us as women who face the choices---birth control, unexpected pregnancy, infertility. ... Read more

Book Description

Once upon a time, equipped with a solid marriage, driven careers, and a recently finished basement, my husband and I were ready to start a family.Like many 30-something couples, we thought it would be easy.Unfortunately, after nearly 18 months of doing things "the old fashioned way," my husband was diagnosed with a latent birth defect. It rendered us virtually infertile, not to mention devastated and confused.

The remarkable thing about confusion is that it can spur knowledge and strength.Infertility did just that for us.We moved forward to try to have a child with the help of science and technology. Before we could blink, we were in the midst of monumental efforts to finance our baby-making venture, ordering medications on the Internet, and undergoing multiple, sometimes risky, and invasive, procedures. We endured it all for a single chance to have a child of our own.

Pregnancy Wishes & IVF Dreams: A Story & Lessons About Life, Love, & Infertility is a compelling and insightful look at one couple's struggle with male factor infertility and everything that goes with it.From failed attempts at conception, batteries of fertility tests, and a devastating diagnosis, to IVF/ICSI, other treatments, and ultimately the birth of fraternal twin daughters, Pregnancy Wishes & IVF Dreams offers readers a sense of shared experience through a real-time, personal story. The book also provides first-hand insights, guidance, and quotes covering a range of universal issues including dealing with jealousy, great expectations, doctors, risk, finances, and family. Finally, Pregnancy Wishes comes full circle, leaving readers with twelve, invaluable lessons-learned about life, love, infertility, and numerous questions, and challenges in between.

Like an understanding friend, Pregnancy Wishes & IVF Dreams will leave you feelings less alone, and more empowered as you cope with infertility. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect.
This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with infertility. It was recommended to my husband and I by a couple who has struggled with infertility for 5 years and who are still childless. We have just begun our journey with fertility treatments and this book was so helpful.I refer to it a lot when talking to my family about the struggle of being "infertile".I also really enjoyed the personal stories and journal entries from women and men that are included in the book. This book validated a lot of the emotions I have been having and that was important to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A much-needed encouragement
Couples who are struggling with infertility already understand the pain, loneliness, grief, and, yes, resentment and bitterness that comes with the experience. Cindy Dake offers hope through the gospel of Christ from a fellow-traveller, and it is a much-needed encouragement to the couples. This book is packed with practical knowledge, but other books can give that information. Its real strength is in relating that knowledge with biblical points. For instance, how does a Christian decide when to stop infertility treatments? What factors should be considered with medical treatment, adoption, or child-free living? Mrs. Dake doesn't make those decisions for you, but she makes sure you are aware of your options and factors that should go into making those decisions. A chapter is spent relating stories of infertility from the Bible, which is a faith builder to those of us feeling like we are alone in this experience. I also appreciate how the book is written to friends and family of the infertile couple, to help them be able to better minister to their loved ones.

I recommend this book to all of my friends dealing with infertilty! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Dealing with almost ten years of infertility, I really thought this would be a book I'd breeze right through. Barna tends to speak only to IVF patients as she refers to the Lupron Loonies. What happened to the Clomid Crazies which I'm sure many more infertility patients can relate to? Not all infertility patients can afford IVF or even feel led to go down that road so I found her frequent mentions hurtful. I really did not laugh much. I expected to be laughing so hard I'd have to stop to wipe the tears or hold my sides but it was just a chuckle here and there. I found her wording to be difficult at times as if she was trying too hard for a laugh. Lastly, why is this book so much money? If you understand those of us going through infertility then you would also realize much of our money has gone to ARTs, adoption, HPTs, OPKs, doctor visits, surgery, tests, etc so where's the break? $20 could easily go toward a copay.

2-0 out of 5 stars Uck.
I just couldn't get into this book. The writing just wasn't my style, and I didn't find the jokes funny...Oh well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delicate topic handled with wit and compassion
As some other reviewers have noted, this book can be useful both to those going through the experience of dealing with infertility, and to those who want to interact with them with tact and understanding. The author treats every conceivable aspect of the topic. Her approach is always intelligent and warm, yet never cloying or clinical.

The author's wit (and impressive familiarity with pop culture!) make the book compulsively readable and even---though I hesitate to apply the term to a book on such a serious subject---highly entertaining.

The book is filled with practical advice as well as with moral support for those going through the experience of trying to cope with infertility. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
A truly excellent book. It is funny, sad, deep, and very touching.

Everybody should read it, in particular people that did not go thru such an ordeal. It really opens a new window on a not so openly discussed problem.
It made me understand what friends, neighbors, relatives really went thru, and I suddenly felt so very close to them.

This book deserves more than a 5 stars rating.

I have found this book to be very helpful in supporting and dealing with the emotions of my spouse as we go through our IVF journey. The book really helped me understand the delicate emotions of someone experiencing infertility and how comments like "relax", "stop worrying about it", etc. actually do more harm than help.As a result, I am much more supportive in this IVF cycles than I have been in other cycles because I changed the focus of my comments and have avoided saying the wrong thing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars ALL the things you can do to boost your odds.
My husband and I are just beginning to explore the reasons we're having trouble conceiving, and before going to our doctors, I wanted to make sure that we were giving ourselves the best possible odds. This book is great at summarizing the many things affecting fertility that are in our control right now, and since reading this book, we've changed our diet, started taking supplements and herbs, and begun acupuncture. But the book also covers traditional medical treatments; it just doesn't assume that they're a first step. The book is pretty short, which is good, but I would have liked more detail about particular herbs. Also, it's written with British terms, which is only a problem if you don't know that linseed oil and flax seed oil are the same thing (I spent a lot of time looking for "linseed oil," which is the British name). There are also some suggestions that we're not up to ("don't store food in plastic"; "eat only organic food"), but that's our fault, not the book's.

I highly recommend it! ... Read more

Book Description
Tiny Toes is a personal story of a couple struggling to create a family. The author tackles the effects of infertility, including how it almost destroyed her marriage. She illustrates the emotional trials of having a premature baby and how that, too, impacted her soul and her marriage. She also demonstrates how she was able to overcome the depression that was keeping her from her own joy.Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system that affects men and women alike. In the U.S., approximately one out of every eight couples of childbearing age experiences infertility. The impact of infertility can extend to the soul of your very being.Premature births are more common than even the occurrence of women's breast cancer. Watching your baby struggle to survive each day is not something any parent should have to endure. Yet, every day 1 in 9 babies are born too soon. Many of these babies have lifelong complications due to prematurity. In the U.S. approximately 50,000 premature babies do not live until their first birthday.Postpartum depression is being acknowledged as a disorder that occurs fairly frequently. Women who experience infertility and/or the premature birth of a child are more likely to encounter some form of depression than are women who have healthy pregnancies. This story details the emotional trails of these complex life occurences. In the end you'll see the transformation of the author and you will be moved by her journey. ... Read more

I have several friends in various stages of IVF and that have delivered premature children.Until this book, I didn't know the internal struggles, day to day struggles, and strength needed within a family.I now have a much better understanding.Read this book so you can be a better person to your child, your friend or co-worker going through this challenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
Kelly Damron's book Tiny Toes is a must read for everyone. We all know couples who struggle with infertility and the challenges surrounding this issue. Tiny Toes is very educational, entertaining and enlightening. The specific infertility terms, methods and process were amazing to learn about.Kelly shared in such a realistic way her personal journey through this difficult and learning process.Once you begin reading you won't want to put it down!Like me you'll think of dozens of others who can benefit by this excellent book!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring Story of Hope
Kelly's story provides an inner glimpse of the struggles of a family during infertility, premature birth, and depression that will touch anyone. Although it may be especially poignant for families that share this struggle, I was moved by Kelly's honesty and passion even though I have not had the same experiences. As a similar personality type, it was especially meaningful for me to understand the process Kelly went through to overcome her depression and how she found joy and hope through these adversities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Comfort Through The Pain Of Infertility
I read TINY TOES right smack dab in the middle of the IVF/ICSI cycle my wife and I were going through in December 2007.It was an incredibly stressful time for us because we were spending $18,000 in the HOPES that it would result in the baby we have been longing to have for 13 years of marriage.Seeing how much Kelly Damron poured out her heart about the enormous pain and anguish she went through emotionally, mentally, and spiritually through the disapproval of her in-laws to the stress of not being able to have a child with a husband who was ambivalent at best was reassuring to me that we made the right choice.Yes, it was immeasurably difficult to go through that, but it was the right choice.

But the IVF was only the beginning for the Damrons. Then their twin baby girls were premature and the worries about whether they would survive again brought on intense feelings that ran deeper than surface emotional responses. All of this stress led to a depression for Kelly unlike anything she had ever been through before in her life.It was obviously a frustrating time for her husband as I can certainly relate.

You'll quickly fall in love with Kelly's story told in an unabashed, take-it-as-it-is style that you'll appreciate the longer you go through the book. This ain't no Pollyanna-ish feel good book that gives you the warm fuzzies about how everything turns out so perfectly.Quite the contrary! But through it all, Kelly is optimistic and encouraging to others who endure similar circumstances which is why she is a leading voice on behalf of couples who endure infertility, premature births, and the depression that can result from this.

As for my wife and I, our IVF/ICSI cycle failed to produce a child and it was our one and only shot at this.We know that in God's timing we'll be blessed with the pitter patter of some TINY TOES of our own, but it's just not in the cards for us right now.Reading Kelly's story provides us with tremendous comfort through the pain we still feel about our own experience. And that's something you can't put a price on.

THANK YOU, Kelly! You have done an amazing thing sharing your story and we hope to join you as parents in the not-too-distant future.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational book about love, life, and infertility
This is an amazing book! A very frank, open, scary, and uplifting look at the highs and lows of infertility, premature birth, marriage troubles, and depression. I know - it sounds like a really hard, depressing read - but it's written with such passion, hope, and honesty that it is truly inspiring! 5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and Compassionate
If you only buy one book about infertility, buy this one.It offers in-depth, solid information about male and female infertility problems, testing, hormone levels and treatments.

But what really separates this book from the others is that it includes a great deal of information on how to decide which treatments are right for you, as well as when (if) you should end treatment. They don't give any pat answers, but they do equip you with the decision making skills you need to reach a point of resolution.

I loved this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars the best resource I've found
I was grateful to find this new book to address many questions and concerns I had. The content is thorough, the tone is very compassionate, and the suggestions are respectful of diverse values. There are lots of quotes from real people that bring a nice personal touch to a sometimes very clinical subject. I get a lot of comfort from just re-reading parts of the book that reassure me that others before me have taken and survived this journey. I don't know of any other book like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive

5-0 out of 5 stars RESOLVE does it again!
RESOLVE has been helping those in the infertility for years and continues to do so with this amazing book. The author takes you through the biological side of conceiving and also the different causes of infertility. What I especially liked about it is how easy it is to understand as itguides you through the entire process from medical, to diagnosis andthrough treatment, pregnancy and beyond.

It provides sound advice forinfertility coverage and choosing a good doctor. It offers alternatives toconventional fertility treatment, as well asadoption, and the use ofdonors and/or surrogates. It also takes you through resolving issues tohelp those who choose to live life without children or to move on toadoption.Throughout, if gives the reader emotional support, which I feelis the hardest obstacle to overcome. As a fertility patient myself, anddirector of community of ChildofMyDreams.com, I highly recommend it. ... Though the focus is infertility, the relaxation exercises are quick and easy and can be applied to your everyday life. I would highly recommend it to anyone faced with infertility.

Book Description
As we enter the twenty-first century, a number of medical, environmental, and social changes have profoundly affected human reproduction. This book discusses some of the more dramatic changes in an accessible manner, illustrating the ways in which human biology and culture can affect fertility. It provides a unique interdisciplinary perspective on the subject. Topics of discussion include medical technological advances that equip us with potential cures for many causes of infertility; diseases, such as AIDS, that have a devastating impact on the reproductive and social lives of humans; increasing industrialization and the development of fabricated materials that pollute our environment in unforeseen ways with possibly devastating effects on human health and fertility; and social revolutions that profoundly alter human relationships, such as nonmarital unions between heterosexual couples, same-sex relationships, and adoption and surrogacy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend for those new to DI
I am fairly disappointed by how few books there are about DI.While there is a lot of information on the internet, I think that reading a variety of first-hand narratives would be helpful for people who are just beginning to consider DI.So, I was very pleased when I found this new book. This book follows a British couple as they go from diagnosis of azoospermia to exploring various treatments to deciding how many cycles are too many. (Boy, do I remember agonizing over that point!)

While some of the procedures and costs are different in the UK, their experience closely mirrored our own.Because it is based on a diary that the author kept, she includes some very intimate and intense conversations that she and her husband had in regards to infertility. These events clearly highlight the need for both parties to be in full agreement before embarking on the DI journey.

At times, the story line is a little muddled. The author has a lot of friends in whom she confides and it is sometimes difficult remember who is who.She is also a practicing Buddhist and writes about that quite a bit.(It's a little odd so see Buddhist terms mixed in with infertility jargon in the glossary.)Overall, though, I think that this book is a worthwhile read, especially for those just starting out. ... Ms. Shackelford's straight forward, upbeat style of writing and amazing honesty in telling about her and her husband's struggles to become a family make tripleFun an awe inspiring book. And one that is sure to strike a chord with readers of any age or family experience. After all, who isn't secretly fascinated with multiple births.Whether it's twins, triples, quads, etc. giving birth to and caring for so many at once seems not only unbelievable, but impossible to those of us who are without children or had the standard one at a time.My hat off to Ms. Shackelford and all parents of multiples. Now how about book two - the toddler years. And more pictures of Amanda, Michaela and Trevor.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Families Expecting or With New Multiples
Triplefun is the story of a courageous woman and her struggle to survive and flourish with the extraordinary welcoming of triplets.Lia Shackelford gives good advice, handy tips and interesting ideas to make life more bearable with the onslaught of an instant family. She uses humor to disclose the real trials within a marriage that are inevitable among new triplet families. She is honest about her fears, which alone takes courage, but in the end chooses life over comfort or even what may be the valid concerns of women involved in such complicated pregnancies.
As a mother of 4 year old triplets myself, I can honestly say that this book would be a bona fide treasure to anyone expecting or in the company of new multiples. It also gives insights into the world of multiples for anyone who may be a family member of the mother or father of triplets or more.I wish I could make my family read it!It would have been nice if her book were around when I was pregnant.Alas, there is a genuine shortage of useful books for mothers of more than twins - as it is so much more. The only thing I might add would be that three swings are a must for some families, especially those with more than just higher order multiples.
This book is a great buy for the average multiple mommy who wants to struggle less to find her own answers when answers can be found by simply reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Response to Il Fiore's review
I have read Kate's book. I also worked for her and therefore felt compelled to respond to il fiore's comments. When Kate had her daughter she was married and her husband was making a good living. Shortly thereafter that marriage ended and from that point on Kate struggled as a single parent, living on limited funds, while dealing with a very serious, very active and debilitating disease -lupus. When I went to work with Kate she was opening The Mind Body Fertility Clinic based on Ali Domars work at Harvard because she so wanted to help other women "find their babies" either biologically or thru adoption. Most importantly she wanted to help women learn to take control of their lives again, stop the insanity that infertility creates, save their marriages, stop hating themselves and their lives, and have hope. The tips that she advocates are for women of any economic background - relaxation, diet, meditation, journaling, time with your partner. The program that she started was open to anyone and if the couples could not afford it then Kate would work out a way for them to attend anyway...even if it meant that she lost money. She is an amazing woman and your review was mean spirited. Kate wrote about her experiences so that other women could see that there are options outside of endless medical tests and last time I checked she had received little to no money for all the time and effort she put into writing I Got Pregnant You Can Too. I recommend this book and if you are in LA I recommend attending The Mind Body Fertility Clinic - which is now being run by Dr. Laurel Kline.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's be fair :)A great place to start.
Some of the lower-rated reviews of this book focus on the author's "privilege."Personally, I didn't see it that way at all.I'm a fairly middle-class woman who doesn't have the freedom (or cash) to jet off to Arizona, but the advice and esecially "life lessons" in this book helped me enormously!Reading this book made me feel like I was getting advice from a big sister who's been through it all.

Yes, there are some New Age references in the book, but they seem awfully tame and in no way inconsistent with her also speaking of God.Her best advice (and I wish more doctors felt this way) is that a positive attitude can aid the fertility process.Katie (I hope she doesn't mind me saying that!) is in no way blaming women for their infertility.Rather, she's asking women to evaluate their readiness and prepare themselves mentally and spiritually for parenthood, something more of us (even the fertile!) should be thinking about.Nor is she arguing that her book is somehow a bible for getting pregnant. This book introduced me to the work of Louise Hay, Susun Weed, and Alice Domar, and she definitely encourages women to learn as much as they can about their condition in order to help their doctors help them.In this respect she's a lot more rational than some New-Age fertility "gurus"--she advocates an informed use of technology aided by positive thinking. And, as someone who's also gotten more than a few gold stars from the school of hard knocks, I really admired her resiliency and emotional depth. Her story alone is well worth the read.

I wish I'd had this book when I was starting out on the "roller coaster" in 1996--it could have saved me a lot of grief. As it is, her suggestions have improved the quality of my life immensely, and I now have the satisfaction of knowing that my husband and I will be much better parents than we were in '96 (and more balanced people).So--a big hug for Katie and Mimi!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful or inspiring.
How hearing some woman's sad, sad story and all the sad stories of her famous (but she can't say exactly who) friends helps anybody with infertility is completely beyond me. What a dumb book. I could'nt even make myself finish it. So, unless the second half of the book instantly becomes helpful, I think it is a waste of time. It's not very well written on top of its total uselessness.
However, if you don't believe me , I know where you can get a used copy in fabulous condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars I GOT PREGNANT, YOU CAN TOO!
I would truly recommend Katies book to any woman whom is going thru this roller coaster of infertily. What I liked best about her book is that it made me realize that stress plays a major role in getting pregnant. Reading her story and how she didnt take NO for answer, she had faith. I realize now that positive thinking has to work. I myself have had two miscarriages, my latest was in March. I am taking Katies book to heart, and hoping that my child will come to me too. I realize things happen for a reason/and happen when they are suppose to. I firmly believe my child will come to me when it feels "I AM READY"..This book also inspires you to look and think more about your over all well being and how its important. ... Read more
